Preparation After collecting this rare slime mold from where it naturally occurs in the lightless depths, the herbalist must combine the slime with mineral salts and store it in an airtight container such as a bottle or jar.

Use The slime causes mild skin rashes, but it grants darkvision out to a range of 30 feet for 24 hours if applied to the eyes (a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity). If the subject already had darkvision, the darkvision’s range increases by 30 feet. Frequent use of this herb causes permanent purple blotches on the skin around the user’s eyes.

"Sun flare"

This 1-foot-long, gold-tipped iron rod glows brightly when struck (a standard action). It sheds normal light in a 30-foot radius and increases the light level by one step for an additional 30 feet beyond that area (darkness becomes dim light and dim light becomes normal light). A sunrod does not increase the light level in normal light or bright light. It glows for 6 hours, after which the gold tip is burned out and worthless.

Gel, Fire Ward
Price 150 gp; Weight 1 lb.

When you apply this thin gel to your skin, armor, or clothing, it creates a resistant barrier that protects you from fire or heat damage. You gain fire resistance 5. The gel burns away as it absorbs fire damage; when it absorbs a total of 20 points of fire damage, it is discharged. Fire ward gel counts as protection from energy for the purpose of stacking multiple fire protection effects. Applying fire ward gel takes 1 minute, and it lasts for 1 hour before losing its potency. Multiple applications of fire ward gel do not stack; applying more while a dose is active merely resets the potential amount of fire damage absorbed to 20 points.

Nymph

Nymph is a very basic musket. Smoothbore with an augmented hex barrel shape she is not designed for extreme distances. She sports a very rudimentary site that offers only focus rather than any enhancement. Her dainty trigger does have a rather aggressive trigger reset action so the handler knows when the firing pin for the charged shot is active.

Her scarlet wrapping helps keep the most vital areas protected and there are clear signs of upgrades well on the way.

She is a temperamental lady for now and there is a real risk of the firearm exploding if handled by anyone other than a gunsmith.

Fire mode 1: Spell cartridge - This shot is the least potent only dealing 1d4 force damage. It is really a skill of John and will not operate for anyone without the correct training and feats.

Fire mode 2: "My only weakness, Bullets!" - Standard ammunition throwing rather large balls of metal at people with unreasonable velocity.

Fire mode 3: "No one is going home." - Special alchemical ammunition is placed within the main chamber. The slugs now detonate upon impact. This is loud and is not likely used unless there is little other option.

Mizugusuri were alchemical elixirs created by the Agasha family. The Agasha created them using herbalism and the secrets of the elements. Most Mizugusuri must be drunk to gain their effects, and the effects were always temporary.

First mention of Alchemy in L5R that I have run into. notes for later to read deeper.

One round after the trigger door is opened, the trap is sprung and the pillar begins to rotate, firing blunt arrows at every character in the room. The trap runs for 10 full rounds, after which it is exhausted and must be manually reloaded. Each round, the pillar fires 1d4 blunt arrows at each character in the chamber. Characters holding a tower shield can gain total cover as a standard action, avoiding all of these attacks. A character standing behind the character holding the tower shield gains a +4 cover bonus; any other characters lined up in this fashion only gain a +2 cover bonus to AC.
