I will look into your sheet (and others) later on this week-end.
Right now I wanted to ask you (and am asking the other two Dwarves) if you wished to look into some common background with the other two Dwarves and/or having arrived in Bree for the Spring Festival with them?
Very open and up to you, I simply thought it can be fun to have ties and this is an opportunity.
One background element I will have, is that a merchant-caravan came from Erebor & Dale, with several Dwarves, bringing a good deal of high-quality forge items, ordered and delivered to Bree (you can have come with this caravan, and even be part of making the goods etc.).
Note: if several are interested, I can even make a Dwarf-only thread to discuss thiings.

A bit of shared background could be quite fun. I can see Áski accompanying the caravan, or visiting Bree in order to meet with it.

Current thoughts on two of Áski's three Useful Items: 1) a detailed set of maps (Explore), and 2) Old Mág, a raven companion (Awareness). A shame they did away with Ravens Of The Mountain as a Dwarvish Virtue.

Dwarves get Axes or Swords at 2 as their main Combat Proficiency, and one other Combat Proficiency at 1. Could I surrender my one other to remove the typical 1d disadvantage for Brawling attacks?

No.
I am sorry, but I don't know the rules yet, so I would rather not change things around (especially not that).
Since Brawling does not even have a score of itself (right? It uses the highest other score you have).
I have no idea if this change would just be a little thing in practice, or a major change.

Right, that's what I thought.

So I do not want to start changing base mechanics (since removing the penalty would change how they plan it to be run) especially before playing a bit and see how things go.

No trouble. I always run ideas past folk, which is how my last TOR loremaster and I came up with our Spells Of Secrecy tweak and rules for throwing axes (which we basically decided were equivalent to throwing daggers, but with a slightly higher Injury and Load). I didn't really want to add another weapon to Áski's Load, but I may drop the long-hafted axe in favor of an axe and a bow or some such. Trying to get the most out of her Endurance.

You can always put a point in something (ie. Bows) and not carry your bow around.
And then pick one up if you ever want to use one.

Oh yes, have to add the third to my sheet... was thinking a pipe to relax and think, just not sure what skill to tie it too. I was thinking Insight: share a pipe with someone and get to know them better, yada yada.

re. Old Mág-- I am sorry, but it is simply a Useful Item, thus giving a bonus die to Awareness.
Which is fine to RP using the bird-aspect.
I am okay with Áski talking to it if you want-- but it not a Raven of the Mountain (from 1E), thus it cannot be asked to go accomplish tasks, nor does it understand languages, and does not speak either (so no reporting).

Since you have not posted for a while, I just want to make sure you are okay with my ruling that your Useful Item is not the same as the 1E Cultural Blessing?
(just to make sure, since it is hard to get intent across on the Net, this is not at all a rant or a negative post, nor anything "against" you, just trying to work out how things are going)
Tell me if you wish to pursue with the duo you spotted or are giving up on that?
And, I am reminding you again (with no pressure, just FYI) that I put out a great deal of leads (the various named NPCs at the fair, as well as specific stands named etc.) that can be of interest / benefit in pursuing.
And, of course, I am very open to following up on whatever you might decide to have Áski do on 'his' own.
No need to do any of this, of course, all open... and I anyhow can soon be moving things along story-wise.
