001-OOC General OOC

Hello all!

I do not have any personal questions or such for anyone, so, of course, no need at all to share things you do not wish to.
I giving this information about me to help you imagine where my GMing comes from, and what issues you might have with me and how to prod me in a direction you prefer or whatever.

I am a guy (cis-male), in my mid-50's, who started (like one of the players it seems?!) with the old basic DnD and played a lot of that (into AD&D). Then I stopped for a long time (studies, work, marriage, kid) and then got back into gaming with Vampire for many years. Did not stop after that, and have GMed and played a lot of different games (mostly Warhammer Fantasy, a lot of Pathfinder/Starfinder, then The One Ring, Alien RPG these past two years, and now back to TOR).

As a GM I like a blend of 'action'/events & RP (I like stories, so to have events unfolding, but with RP descriptions & PC interaction). I try to use whatever the PCs have as much as possible (so, if you choose a 'rare' or not super used trait or whatever for your PC I will try to get it in game). And I am open to player input as to where to go, what to do, to inflect the storyline (even if I reserve the right to not accept everything.).

My timezone is Western Europe (the Berlin, Paris, Rome one) and I mainly work from home (even pre-Pandemic).

Hoping we have fun!

Howdy all!  Looking forward to wandering with you.

Wow I'm actually very similar in RPG history to our Loremaster but early 50s and never really stopped role-playing after picking up that Basic D&D set soooooo long ago.

I did back the Kickstarter but never played 1st Ed.  Like what I've read in the rules, should be fun. :)

Edit:  oh and I'm CST (San Antonio, TX)

Am 44yo, have been playing for 32 years, and only played a bit in 1ed The One Ring, as well as a short campaign in the D&D 5e ruleset. I love LoTR, and adventuring in this world, plus, the interesting travel rules, is something I enjoy.

We have Boldran joining us, wishing to play a Hobbit Treasure-Hunter.

I will stop at nine players (even though it is a bit much). Since our illustrious Professor Tolkien went with a group of nine himself.

My plan is to start with the Fair, which will be a bit of an open gaming session (though building blocks will be present) so it should not be a problem for this higher number.
Then, if we still are this many, I can split the party (!) and run two different adventures in parallel-- joining the two groups after those dual first ones (since I imagine all will not pursue, or so is my general experience in PbP).
And, if we end up playing with 8 or 9 or so, I will consider it a rich person's Standard of Living issue (!) and we can simply continue with two Companies (which could even be quite interesting).

Thanks to all for your interest!
I hope to make it a fun game for all (and do not hesitate to tell me what you expect, want etc. as we go).

Hiya, just popping in to say I'm looking forward to gaming with you all and seeing how this campaign develops.

I'm definitely in the 'grognard' category with tabletop rpgs being my favorite non-sport social activity since my eldest brother brought the D&D bug home from boy scout camp in the late 70s.  I was still in elementary school at the time but I was allowed to roll dice for him at the table with his gang (to start with;-).  I learned to play at that table and then lasso'd my friends to our own group and really haven't taken a prolonged break from the hobby for any length of time since (moving to Roll20 temporarily with the lockdown before returning to weekly face-to-face play for a very long running FFG Star Wars game).

As far as Middle Earth, the Hobbit and LotR were requisite reading gamers at least in my neck of the woods (earning a funny look if you confessed to having never read them;-), and I used to read them a few times a year up 'til @high school (as other interests developed;-).  I've run/played a lot of different systems, including MERP a few years in high school.

I did pick up Cubicle 7s TOR but after a read thru saw that it wasn't a good match for my group...some of my long term players tend to be extremely mercenary and a bit ruthless.  Oh my collection of miscreants will fight the good fight, just making sure to 'realize' as many assets along the way and leave no reoccurring villains survivors;-).  TOR's assumptions & mechanics are in some ways a bit similar to Pendragon's which I had run for them a short time, which besides the Monty Python turn had gotten a bit too 'murdery' (and better suited for other games).  So basically TOR has sat in my collection ever since.  So I jumped at the chance when I saw an opportunity to play in Tolkien's world again.

I've usually run the games so online pbp has been my outlet to play (at a slower pace).  That said I can usually post daily (or more) in response to the gm or player and if I don't have anything to add I'll throw up a quick 'me too' post for courtesy so the game isn't waiting on me.  That said, I generally don't procrastinate whipping out a post where others may hesitate to see what others are going to do...so don't worry about 'stepping on my toes' if you have a different course of action but I've posted beforehand.  I have no problem with adjusting to suit or working with any breadcrumbs you seed into your posts (roleplay or otherwise).

Other than that I live in the US, EST, and currently wondering what to make throughout the year with a freezer full of venison after a successful deer season.

Hey all!

I'm (probably) the baby of the group at 23 (well, 23 on Sunday technically, but close enough). I started in high school with 5th edition D&D, but quickly started trying other systems, including AIME (the 5th edition hack for TOR), TOR, Ironsworn (also free and doesn't technically need anyone else), and Pendragon.

As far as my character for this game, I am thinking either an Elven Warden, or a Dalish Captain. Looking forward to this!

Happy birthday Thattripletguy!

I've decided to take whichever culture you don't.

.....so pick already! :D

Also, are you in fact a triplet?

Yes, I am in fact a triplet (the middle one, and the only guy). I'm leaning towards the elf, but IDK though.

Hey there! My name is Jen. I was all of five years old when I had my first roleplaying experience, as the small-but-vicious dog of my dad's halfling ratcatcher in a Warhammer FRP game. In the thirty years since, I have played the heck out of a great many games and run a fair number. I am quite fond of period gaming, the Victorian Era being my personal favorite. My expectations are few as long as everyone is polite and respectful of others' boundaries. My interest, first and foremost, is fun and engaging narrative collaboration with my fellow players. I currently live in New York City but originally hail from Michigan.

Hello all! Nice to meet you in some personal way!

I am in fact a triplet (the middle one, and the only guy). I'm leaning towards the elf, but IDK though.
I had this vision-- of triplets, with you, a guy in the middle, leaning towards your elf-sister, but thinking of maybe leaning the other way!

I currently live in New York City but originally hail from Michigan.
I was born in NYC! (but have mainly been in Europe since I was a kid).
