101f-IC From the sea, towards the East

The wide seaward land to the west of the Blue Mountains is the Elven realm of Lindon. The region is what remains of the great country of Beleriand, destroyed almost entirely in wars that only the long-lived Elves remember.

It was for a while the greatest nation of the Elves in Middle-earth. Gil-galad, the last king of the Noldor, dwelt there, as did Celeborn and Galadriel, before they went to Lórien.

In time, Celebrimbor led many of the High Elves away east, to found Eregion, after hearing of the discovery of mithril in the mines of Moria.

The land of Lindon comprises Forlindon and Harlindon, the coastlands to the north and south of the Gulf of Lhûn.

No Men cross into Lindon, but Dwarves still maintain some remote halls in the Blue Mountains, both north and south of the Gulf of Lhûn.

Those are the sea-side lands from which Aredhel hails.

The Blue Mountains, the Ered Luin, mark the East border of Lindon.
From there, past the mountains, the journey to the Shire is not that long.
It takes one through high hill-regions - the Tower Hills, the Far Downs, and then the White Downs... which lead to the Shire. The first half of the journey.

The Shire, the lands of the Hobbits, which Elves can easily slip through at night, when all the Halflings are asleep in their beds.
From Michel Delving to Bree is the second part of the trip.

From Elven lands, through Hobbit farthings, to the Mannish town.

Thus Aredhel came to Bree-land, down the East Road, passing the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs to his south.

The Elf of Lindon entered Bree through the Ranger's Door, the west-gate.

Although Aredhel was young for an elf of Lindon, he had always wanted to explore the world, ever since he was just a wee lad. And now, with the festival going on in Bree, he had found a chance.

He was lucky he had persuaded his father to allow him to go to the festival - while he was a good father, he was an overbearing man, and always thought more of the elves and how they knew better than everyone else - Aredhel had been the exact opposite, thinking that while the elves might have more wisdom, everyone had different experiences, so listening and gathering their tales interested him greatly.

Seeing the numerous people gathered here, as Aredhel arrived early on the morning of the Festival, he felt sure he would gather many a tale.

Can post directly in 101main-IC Spring on the Green.
