Re: OOC chat

Weapons do grow in size with enlarge, but they don't necessarily gain reach. However, Beargus is Large instead of Medium because of the spell, so he now takes up 4 squares instead of just 1. Since he takes up a larger area on the map, but still threatens every square within 5 feet of his now-larger self, that effectively means he threatens a larger area now than before (12 squares, compared to 8).

Before:
-----
-   -
- B -
-   -
-----

After:
------------
--    --
-- B1B2 --
-- B3B4 --
--    --
------------

So depending on which directions Beargus expanded from the point that he was moving to, his size may have made it so that the one charging Cassidy did go through his range, or it might not. Since the square he's in is the furthest one he could have moved to, and the direction he moved was down and left, I'm inclined to say the squares he expanded to would those that are up and right of where you have him, so that he occupies the red section in the image below. That would then make his threatened squares the ones I've outlined in blue. The purple arrow goes through his threatened squares in that case, triggering the reaction. If Beargus expanded left and up or left and down, the purple arrow still passes through his threatened squares and triggers the reaction. If he expands down and right, that is the only case where the purple line would not pass through his attack range.

We should also note that Gevī is mounted on horseback. While she is a medium creature, the horse is a large creature and takes up 4 squares of space.

Re: OOC chat

Another note is that Sharissa is still flying above the fray, so that attack on her, even if it missed, can only be done with a ranged weapon.

I did say in the OOC I changed my target to the hobgoblin near Cassidy, hexing it, so if both attacks hit, it would have had 18 necrotic and 12 force damage. It was not noted in the round resolution.

Re: OOC chat

edits :

- Beargus' polearm master reaction kills the hobgoblin closing in on Cassidy.
- Gevi is on horseback.
- the hobgoblin attacking Sharissa swings its weapon wildly in the air.

--> THE MAP <--

One hobgoblin (south-east of Gevi) has been injured by sapping sting.
One hobgoblin lies dead, next to Cassidy (killed by Beargus).

- Cassidy, Gevi and BIGs may want to check their posts for round 2

"No blood has been spilled yet today.  Walk away, and live to see another."
Yeah, there's some blood spilled now ...

What else of significance did I miss, before round 2 occurs ?

Re: OOC chat

Correct me if I'm wrong,
but it looks like at the end of round 1
Sharissa still has some spells to throw off.

Sharissa, you may as well just choose a target for them,
and that will wrap up round 1.

Apologies for the edits, etc.
There's a lot of moving parts.

Re: OOC chat

I had chosen a target, the hob closest to Cass... now if that one died before my turn, it would be one of the bow wielding ones, you choose which one

And I agree running combat is a lot of details. If I can make a suggestion as a fellow GM, do a table with everyone's, including the mobs, initiative and write the resolution from the top down. Don't wait for player's input when their stated target is not available. In that case I use the intent, look at the available targets and use the rolls on that target.

In my games, I stole Gevi's table formating and just adapt it to the current fight, with columns for the name, init, AC, HP (current/max) and status. It's a bit of a pain for the first combat post but click and drag and copy-paste are your friends

You all know the details already mentioned in the main thread.

A good roll of history / religion / lore may reveal further information.

Re: OOC chat

Just in case you missed it...
I've added a natural 20 roll for Intelligence (History or Religion) to my last post.  It's the same modifier for both, so either roll applies.  Gevī would be more inclined to History than religion, if you need to make a choice.

Re: OOC chat

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cataclysm
It is widely believed that the Cataclysm occurred as a result of the Kingpriest’s overweening ambition. The Kingpriest sought godhood to not only purge the lands of evil, but of anything that did not agree with his viewpoints. However, such an act would ultimately destroy the Doctrine of Balance, so Thirteen Warnings were sent to the Kingpriest and the nation of Istar. A storm battered the city for thirteen days, trees wept blood, and other ill omens were seen. The warnings were misinterpreted as signs from gods of Darkness that wanted to stop the Kingpriest, and went unheeded. On the third day of the year 963 IA by the Istar calendar, the Kingpriest demanded that the gods answer his call. Instead, the Cataclysm occurred. Though it was widely believed that the gods abandoned Krynn, this was not so. Instead, most of Krynn's populace could not understand why the gods refused their cries for aid, and turned away from the gods for over three hundred years.
Ansalon felt the Cataclysm as a burning mountain that struck the Lordcity of Istar, though the changes wrought by the Cataclysm were far-reaching. The countries of Falthana and Seldjuk were destroyed; it is likely that Gather, Ismin, and Midrath were as well. The nation of Istar, as well as Dravinaar and Taol were radically altered and later subsumed into other nations. The Kingdom of Icereach was destroyed; its cities buried under snow and ice. The Blood Sea formed over the sunken city of Istar; the Maelstrom in its center supposedly sits over the ruined city. Northern Ergoth and Southern Ergoth were formed when Ergoth was separated from the mainland, while the Blood Sea Isles were formed from existing mountains to the west. Water rushes in from the Sirrion Ocean to form the New Sea, while waters recede from the port city of Tarsis.
On Taladas, the Cataclysm is known as the Great Destruction. Taladas originally consisted of a single continent surrounded by islands. During the Great Destruction, the center of Taladas was struck a blow greater than that which sank Istar. Tectonic plates were shifted, and the Empire of Aurim was destroyed not only from the initial strike, but from the ash and gas clouds produced by the Burning Sea. The Indanalis Sea opened westward to the Western Ocean, dividing one landmass into Northern Hosk and Southern Hosk. The Storm Sea was created from the eastern remains of the Indanalis in conjunction with sulphur-filled clouds.
The Cataclysm is known by other names as well: Plainsmen call it the Rending, the Hest call it the Great Shattering, and some Qualinesti elves know it as the Great Sundering.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Paladine

Paladine was one of the first gods summoned by the High God from the Beyond. He represents the divine power of majesty, and is patron deity to the gods of Good. He supports the soul’s drive to strive for greatness, and is representative of leadership. He is also representative of the ideal of redemption, striving to bring those who have fallen to darkness back into the light.

Paladine was patron of the Knights of the Rose until the War of Souls. He was also the highest deity of the elves, who referred to him as E’li. Paladins especially flocked to his cause. Paladine was husband to Mishakal, and father of Kiri-Jolith, Habbakuk, and Solinari. He was advised by Majere. Paladine was opposed to all the gods of Evil, but especially to Takhisis.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Takhisis, the Dark Queen (also known as Tiamat in other settings)
Takhisis was sister to Gilean and Paladine, and was the goddess of control and Evil. Takhisis, along with Paladine, was called from the Beyond to be custodians of the world. She was the head of the Evil gods, consort to Sargonnas, and mother to Zeboim and Nuitari. Takhisis was responsible for the corruption of the Chromatic Dragons, and appeared in one form as a dragon with heads of blue, black, white, red, and green.
During the Third Dragon War, Takhisis attempted to conquer Ansalon. She was defeated when a Knight of the Crown named Huma thrust a Dragonlance into the heart of one of her aspects. Huma exacted a promise from her, sworn "by the High God, to leave Krynn and never enter it again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EDIT : feel free to google/wiki anything here, but be aware that we are at the beginning of the War of the Lance. So, if you read something that says 'during the War of the Lance, this happened, and that happened ...', then those things have not happened just yet. Thanks.

Re: OOC chat

How much of this would i know from a history roll (natural 20)?  I the player have read the Dragonlance chronicles several times. Gevi was a human girl from Solamnia...

She's incredibly smart (20), and well read, but still a girl several hundred years after the cataclysm struck

Re: OOC chat

If you'd like to use this thread (out-of-character)
to vote on which way to go (Solace, wilderness, etc),
that's fine.

Those who know the module or accompanying novels
know that the companions (as they're known in the novels)
do head into Solace and to the Inn of the Last Home,
but there's nothing stopping you from not following
that path, if you choose.

The module is structured so that there's
events that occur at locations, and also
at particular times (after 2 days, etc).
