Hi folks.

I'm going to be adding those of you who are ready tomorrow.  There are still others I'm working on/with but I think by Sunday I'm going to close this game to new applicants.

After that we can all, as a group begin discussing what we want from the game and how we know one another.

Hello Miss Winters! I'm Inoue; shrine maiden, oracle, medium, sort-of-witch, and your new best friend!... as long as you don't need someone that's all "hip" and "with it" when it comes to pop culture, anyways!

If you need some occult research done, I'm your gal. If you need to talk to spirits or just need a generally observant sort, I'm definitely the one you want to talk to. I'm pretty good at influencing people (for a neeeerd) and a fair hand with both the yumi and naginata in a fight. I'm no Slayer though, nor the sort of person you'll see blasting fireballs and lightning bolts in a fight. My powers trend more towards augeries and scrying than combat.

There, now you know how useful I am! Now let me in, it's cold and rainy out here and I don't have anywhere to stay.

Hello to everyone, looks like a long and varied cast :)

So glad that we have THE SLAYER among us... it will keep us Watcher types busy!

In terms of linking character backgrounds;
- Characters with an interest in botany might have caught one of Alice's lectures.
- Anybody who has dealings with Sir John might also be acquainted with Alice (as his assistant).
- Those who have an interest in cricket might have also met Alice at local matches (as an avid spectator).

My character sheet isn't working yet by the way.

I have just enrolled at the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology. I'm going to hold off on most of the IC stuff because it's cool doing it in game.

I'm looking forwards to seeing how she works out. She's quite different to my original ideas but (thanks are owed to the Narrator for his kind help) probably going to be really interesting and fun to play. I'm all fired up to see how this game goes!

Links to other people:
* Any one in the Officer Cadet corps/Scouting/Girls Venture Corps?
* Scouting is very popular and we could have met at a Jamboree or something
* I used to like in Manchester before moving here.

@Alice
Is your class at the College of Arts and Tech? If so I could easily be going to your class. And I'm quite happy to have met you at a cricket match or too.

Inoue hitchhiked across the country and possibly across several continents because a vision told her that a pretty girl would need her help with something. Inoue takes visions very seriously! It does mean she probably doesn't know anyone though. No support network, no place to stay, just a trunk full of weird Japanese spellbooks and maybe twenty dollars pounds in her pocket.

Inoue has (somehow) finagled her way into into Ann's class to keep an eye on her, and maybe she'll meet the other PCs as well if they share classes. Ideally they meet in their formal capacities during an early hunt where the mighty Slayer saves Inoue's quirky butt. Or Inoue saves Ann's butt! It could happen, okay?! (Actually it's more likely Alice notices Inoue first and it's all incredibly awkward and full of misunderstandings...)

Possible links Julie:

Scouting
  • The scouts do jamborees. People go from each troop to an international location. They've been doing this since 1920.
  • My father in law went to the Netherlands in 1937 for example and met up with literally thousands of other scouters.
  • In 1975 there was a Jamboree in Norway. Could we have met there?

I go jogging every day... Will probably be playing cricket and definitely in the fencing class (going to edit description now)

In 1924 they held the first big Jamboree (called 'world camp'). 1000 girls, 600 from overseas, and from 40 countries.  In 1930 it was the first actual world camp held after the formation of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (bigger). Since then they have been doing this kind of thing.

My google fu wasn't enough to work out which was the most recent before 1978, but they were defintely doing them.

So if you want we can have met there.

Otherwise just at the fencing club, where we decided to go jogging together on a morning. How about if we do the 'why not play AD&D' in game?

Is Inoue academically gifted? If so, I could see Ann coming to her for help with homework. If she doesn't get pop culture references, I'll be sure to have Ann drop Buffy-esque references when she talks to her, '78 vintage.

I assume that Alice has/will introduce herself to the slayer (I'm not sure whether the roleplay will start before or after that). Now that's a connection that writes itself. Once Ann understands her role, joining a fencing club and/or taking up jogging would make sense.

I don't imagine that Ann would even have heard of AD&D. And she probably wishes she'd never heard of cricket.

Julie, if you're trying to develop a social life in town, is it possible that we've bumped into each other at a disco?

Somewhere in the Kite.  I suggest Eden Street perhaps, not far from the Ancient Druids.

Alternatively, it's in Benet Street in an area slated for demolition.

That's for the Hurricane.

As far as the Taboo is concerned, it's in Regent Street, more or less opposite the Prince Regent between the Christian Science Reading Room and a dodgy shop selling army surplus clothing.  It plays pop music in a labyrinth of dark rooms that are barely even decorated apart from a small snack room and a chill out room for people who may have taken too much acid (or come to close to a rather malicious Fae).

Hello, all! Very excited to be here with everyone.

Rhiannon is eighteen, a Welsh engineering student at CCAT, and she works sometimes in her father's local auto repair shop. She was raised on a rural sheep farm and enjoys tinkering with machines, punk music and fashion, jogging, football, and the great outdoors generally.

She's also a werewolf, but she's not aware of it. As far as she knows, she's just sleepwalking a few nights out of the month and the fact that local sheep stopped vanishing when she moved away from the farm is a total coincidence. As is the sudden spike in "very large black dog-like creature" sightings locally since she arrived in Cambridge.

Though likely a member of the Fencing and Boxing club, he was probably a bit shy and unremarkable there as well as in studies.

Three points for a score draw
Two points for a nil nil draw
One and a half points for an away win
One point for a home win.

The most common perm is any 8 from ten which is (10*9)/2 which is 45 lines, with the jackpot (which in 1978 was about a million pounds, and in 1978 that would by you a high class penthouse apartment on the River Thames or a Frank Lloyd Wright designed mansion in Wisconsin ... or a toilet in Tokyo) reserved for punters who actually managed to predict ten score draws and so get 45 lines of 24 points.  Not bad for 22.5 pence on Littlewoods or as low as 5p on Zetters (although their jackpot was only £200,000).

It's legal to drink alcohol at 18. You can drink it aged 16+ if with a meal and an adult. The rules might be more permissive in 1978... I'm not sure.

Dunno about Cambridge cause I was 18 when I got there..  In my home town nobody carded you but if they knew you and you were underage, they turned you away (except at the local football club or the Leisure Centre).

In 1978 though pubs in London and in Cambridge closed at 10:30 (which came as a shock when I moved there, that half an hour made all the difference)

The Taboo is dark and if the doorman lets you in (which he will if you're female - unless you look under sixteen - and if you're male provided you're over 5'10" tall, have facial hair or look over 21) then the barman will serve you.

A rule question...

If I want to 'help' someone do an action. i.e. cooperative actions. How would it work? I'm sort of expecting a roll on the skill and looking at success levels and adding those to the other person, or 'make a skill and add a fixed number' to the other person (I like the first better). But I couldn't find it in the rule book

Example: If I was to help Rhiannon dance... what would I roll? and what impact would it be?

Add half of your successes (rounded UP for a change) and add to those of the person you're helping.

If more than one person is helping.  One person uses all their successes and the rest
s/n rounded up where s is the total number of successes and n is the number of people helping.

This is a much nicer way to start a game. We can mess around and build our characters. Certainly I am growing to love (is that the right word?) mine. And I'm getting a real feel for those I am interacting with.

And all without putting pressure on people to complete their sheets. Thanks Mr Gm. Really nice start to the game

As for manic/depressive stuff... we all get periods we aren't going to be able to post in. That's life and RPOL. For me... this is holiday time so I have a ton of free time and am relishing being able to post freely.

But unless they are a very common npc don't do it and just use their name. Because it makes many other things less good. If it's a major NPC well worth it.

Steps:
GM Menu
Edit characters
Add(existing)

You get a screen in which you can add multiple characters and at the top right there is a drop down of the player

Me: I always have rules backing freeform. Most of it is freeform with the rules providing the skeleton of the characters. And die for resolving conflict.. which is ten times better than freeform resolution of conflict all the times I've tried both. I don't mean for resolving conflict where you know the outcome before the fight. I mean a conflict where you don't know the outcome at the start.

The people that tried to HD-ify Buffy REALLY screwed it up.

They changed the framing, coloring, and lighting. Sometimes you can't see people talking to each other. Sometimes you can see people that were originally hidden in darkness because they lightened everything up.

I did enjoy it a good bit. A little afraid to go back and watch it after facts came out about people behind the scenes. Though I am sad an idea I had wasn't the path taken. After old Xander came back and stopped his wedding, I instantly thought it would be amazing if that was a trick that led to Xander becoming the big bad for the next season. Manipulating the scoobies, using what he knew to put everyone in danger. And make it a bit more psychological trauma danger.

Never meant to suggest machismo. But until he tries he wouldn't know. The Director may allow an intligence or perception plus getting medieval roll after watch Elissa doing her forms to get an idea of her skill.  But sometimes you need to be handed your posterior to learn how good someone is or shows they are.

Re: OOC

If I watch someone doing a form I can tell how good they are. The internal styles: Chen style / Bagua /  Xing Yi / Yi quan especially. Hand /foot, elbow/knee, Shoulder/hip coordination. Does their knee go in front of their toe ever. What is the shape of the arch of the back. Do they keep their forehead pressed forwards against an invisible hand, is their crown as though suspeneded from a single gold thread. Is their gwar relaxed (I don't actually have a polite english word for this). I don't rate the master of the video I showed very much but I picked it because he dances a very nice dance...

A style like chen is about 'requirements' things you have to do to generate power. The point of the form is to practive maintaining the requirements while moving. aka drilling the requirements into muscle memory

Watch a capoerista do their ginga and practice moves you can tell too. The requirements are different (in some ways exactly the opposite which is interesting) but they are there

My dad did fencing, I don't, but I'm told they have requirements too.

I think though in all of them it's about relaxation, smoothness, consistancy and confidence. And you should be able to tell that.

Suggestion: if you do perception + going medieval or perception + kung fu and make it, then you know what level of success the  stylst got

@Machismo
Good for you :) Yet another good point for Perc.

@Teaching / Waste of time
Expert level is +7 to +10. Once you are there it would never be a waste of time I would have thought. People learn from interacting with other experts once they are good

Also... after a certain point... you can't get better from a teacher... or at least it's very slow, and you get better by teaching. Especially teaching an expert from a differnt style. The conversations you have then are great... It's all about the basics... and teaching amplifies your errors allowing you to see them, or someone else (your teacher) to see your errors amplified in your students.

Re: OOC

It's really dangerous in real life. That's why sports like fencing were created. Along with  judo, capoeria Roda, tai chi pushing hands and sticking swords. These sports / games let you go all out without worrying, without holding back and let you assess the other person's skill and improve your own.

The problem is you have your bodyweight, and the sword is a lump of material. And when you apply your body weight through the lump of material... it's going to hurt. And lots and lots of sword fighting is about posture. The point of posture is to allow you to use your bodyweight both offensively and defensively. Not all of course... just a lot.

Another problem is that most of sword fighting is about grappling (unless you are fencing .. that's western martial arts too... my Son is in the world champions of the medeival combat with metal weapons and heavy armor... I can't bear to watch that it's so scary). Almost every move in that Tai chi kata had a grapple element in it,(and every move included a footwork element that was a kick). Grappling with heavy lumps of material... isn't safe usually.

This sparring with padded weapons is where most accidents happen in the style I do...so we do it hardly ever: we use other games like above to train.

...

The above was the problem. And we can use the solution that is used in the real world. We  can just do fencing (which is a great sport if you don't want to learn to kill people or vampires)  If we do that with the fencing swords, with the padded armour we can go out and no one gets very hurt because in real life no one gets hurt. Maybe a bruise or two RPed in. I'd take a minus to skill to use fencing because it's so alien to 'in the real', (I'd say -6 to me, start dropping to -3 within 100 hours of practice) but that's cool. I'd love to RP it with you Percival. And maybe introduce you to sticking swords...

In fencing there are points instead of hitpoints. The swords don't hurt much.

If you play with electric sabres, which seems to be the best for this particular contest, the points are recorded automatically.  The club should be set up for this, but I suggest you make it an official challenge, first to five points, full gear, 16 players, random, £2.50 buy in, winner takes all.

Plus today you can take a practice round, after all, Sebastian needs to set the odds.

Please only use it when the story is better and be aware that to everyone else it reads like

Re: OOC

A million times more. Among other things it looks like a written language where as the other looks like gibberish

Not pushing it... just requesting people to remember the basic rules of politeness. If they want to be rude IC that's cool. But it's easy to forget how rude it is and be accidentally rude.

Something to consider: If there are two people in a conversation with no listeners how is it different if they were speaking in English or Sumarian? In either case no one else should act on the content. But if they wrote in English we have a story. If we write in gibberish we have a story. I like reading the story

As I say ... don't want to make a storm of this or anything... it's just that I detest things that turn a lovely story into gibberish

@Percival
I work in a team with 30 languages spoken. It's really rude. It's cutting someone out. Personally I only speak three: English, German Chinese. It's not rude of course if the others can speak it

But wow... look at the awesomeness of this. the game is so much better for having it: Really enhances the story telling (can you tell which language is which?)

Feels very good to me. Any brakes on pace result in game death quicker than anything else I've ever seen. That's my experience anyway. I'm not seeing anyone being ignored in a conversation. Because we have different threads and very few people in each thread, it's easy to post and keep track of whether you are being rude to someone

Threads I've been in
Different successes:
The Talon has just stalled.
The Fencing was great I though. Loved Inoue's intro. Loved Percival's posting. It seems to have ground to a halt now... but no reason for it to have
The grocery thread was great: loved it.  only 2 or 3 people in it
The graveyard thread... again great. only 2 or 3 people in it

Other threads
We have some great writers here, and I'm enjoying reading all the threads I'm not in.

Sorry to lose you, Anjali.

I'm liking the pace as it is now. Much faster would be too much for me, but at the moment we have several threads in parallel and people are putting effort into their posts and the game doesn't feel like it's dying, which is always important on here. Plus, it feels more like BTVS to have the main characters split into smaller groups, so I like that and am looking forwards to interacting with the characters I haven't yet met.

I like the pace of the game so far. The scattergun is fine for now while we are all...scattered, but at some point we will all need to be on the same timeline for anything to make coherent sense.

Re: OOC

There are two 'PLOT' threads at the moment. Parkers and the graveyard. It seems to me ten times better that these are two threads and not one, and it doesn't matter about time lines (as long as they are close)

The more people in a thread the harder it is to work. Nine people in a thread (plus NPCs) will be difficult to write in, difficult to read, difficult to get the pacing right. Three threads of three will be easy to write in, easy to read (and can be ignored easily) and it's easy to get the pacing right.

I'd say the pace is a little quick as I haven't been able to properly interact with some players due to time factors (my fault... and work).  I'm trying to hang in :)

I'd agree with Elissa that a thread with all of the cast would probably be... unwieldy.

Re: OOC

Aww, bye Anjali! I liked it when your character did that thing in the one thread, that was just great and I definitely know who you are.

Alcuin:
I should now ask a couple of questions:
  • Is anyone else finding the pace too fast? (or too slow?)
  • Is the scattergun approach to threads making things difficult for anyone to follow?

The pace is good. I occasionally catch myself refreshing RPoL and bouncing in my seat waiting for my next chance to write, which is a good thing, though I foresee it becoming stressful eventually.

The scattershot approach is something I generally try to avoid. I've had so much GMing work to do lately with getting a new game off the ground that I've confined myself to my own threads (Fencing, Maunder) in order to avoid information overload. I'm also a bit confused about the continuity, although fortunately I don't have to overly concern myself with that. I'm just posting in whatever threads the GM tells me to.

The Hon. Elissa St. Clair:
The Fencing was great I though. Loved Inoue's intro. Loved Percival's posting. It seems to have ground to a halt now... but no reason for it to have.

Glad you loved the intro; some aspects of it surprised me as well! The interaction between Elissa and Percival was dominant and urgant last time I checked, so I'm having Inoue spectate until she feels like it is "safe" to start contributing again.

Re: OOC

Dollhouse! I loved that show! They took it in kind of a strange direction in the second season, but I guess Joss really wanted to make the most of it.

Funny story about Dollhouse! I'm autistic, which means among other things that I am really bad with faces. Like, really bad! When I discovered Dollhouse it was shortly after introducing my family to Firefly. I knew that River Tam's actress (Summer Glau) was in Dollhouse, but I didn't know to what capacity. I assumed sight-unseen that she'd be in a starring role. For a long time I thought Echo was Summer's character.

The premise of Dollhouse is about these programmable people who are constantly changing not just outfits and hair but entire personalities. Costuming departments can do amazing things with the human body. So when I saw Summer's actual character finally appear on screen, I just assumed that it was just another of Echo's imprints. We had to pause the episode for a full fifteen minutes while my mother and I argued passionately about who the heck.

So now whenever people say I can't be autistic because I'm so eloquent and sociable, I tell them that I once confused Eliza Dushku with Summer Glau and watch the horrified expressions.

Because we skipped over first class and it seems like I won't get the opportunity to do it properly in-character, here's a line I had pre-written explaining Inoue's name:

quote:
"Miss... Miko?" Silence. "Inoue Miko?"

Inoue blinks. Miko? Since when did she- ohhh. It's English style occupational naming! Like Smith. Tailor. Miller. Miko; shrine maiden. She smirks a little as she realizes what the priestesses back home had done. She stands and waves to the class. "Inoue Miko, that is me! Definitely!" She curtsies and returns to her seat.

Just in case you were wondering why it wasn't the eminently-more-sensible Miko Inoue.

I concur with the easier read and if you've already established precedent for how to handle location-changing in scenes then I say you have to stick to it. We'll move to the YMCA's coffee bar but keep in the cinema thread.

Just a note of a minor issue of language of which many Americans are unaware.  The United Kingdom (and before that, England, Ireland and Scotland) has a fairly complex system of Nobility and the language bends itself to keep up.

Knights and Baronets are addressed as Sir Adam, not Sir Smith but they are referred to as Sir Adam Smith, Sir Adam Smith Bt or Sir Adam Smith Bt (of Nova Scotia).  Where it is clear to which knight or baronet, we are referring, we refer to them as 'Sir Adam'.

Their wives are known as 'Lady Smith' but 'female knights' are called 'Dame Winona Smith' or in the unlikely event of one being a baronetess as ''Dame Winona Smith Btss' in the Seven hundred years that baronetcies have existed, there have only been four baronetess.

Let it never be said that this game is not educational.

Re: OOC

Adding to what the GM said

Note as well that knight hood is totally different to titles. You can be a duke without being a knight. You can be a knight without being nobility. Typically a knight hood is a reward for long and sustained service. There are an unknown (extremely small i.e. 1..2) number per year that are not on public record given by the queen personally not via the government.

To make things worse people have multiple roles. A duke can also be an earl and a baron and a knight of more than one order. Sometimes they are 'in' that role, and you need to address them suitably for that role

There are ten to a hundred knights for every noble that can go into the house of lords.

When addressing a noble it does very by rank. For example a baron is always called 'my lord' or 'my lady' rather than by 'sir' even if they are a knight.

@External links
https://www.theenglishmanner.c...rms-of-address/dames
https://www.theenglishmanner.c...s-of-address/knights
https://www.theenglishmanner.c...ms-of-address/barons

*laughs*
I learnt something too... thanks GM. I didn't know what a baronet is. A Baronet is below a baron and above almost all knights in the pecking order

I think it's pretty cool. If we watch a TV series each TV episode is often one to two weeks of time apart... i.e. a season often represents a year. It allows us to explore the calandar instead of just, say, the start of september.

I'm gonna put down Project Zomboid for this weekend and work on getting posts out to all the games that have been waiting for me to emerge from the zombie apocalypse. Fingers crossed I stick to that!

I was going to set up a scene in Parker's Place where we could have Confrontation 2: Electric Boogaloo, so that we could establish a more viable working relationship before we get ourselves into danger together. Although danger-forged bonding has its appeals as well. I'll let you decide what happens: everyone goes for a nice foggy morning jog around Parker's Piece and we discuss stuff, or Inoue follows Ann and Elissa on one of their patrols and either gets into trouble or helps the wonder duo get out of trouble.

I don't think that a long term Herne possession is a credible concern. Inoue's possession spell gives her a lot of control over the situation -- it's literally her raison d'etre, so compromising that at this early point would see no one trusting Inoue ever again. I don't think the GM would do that to us!

I'm about to go to sleep though, so I guess we'll see what comes out of my head tomorrow later today.

Perception + knowledge.  A simple success means you had some idea about the bots just as you might have noticed human security guards at anywhere other than Downing.  Three successes means that you were aware of the bots but believe(d) you can/could get what you need in time.  Five successes means you conspired with a hacker to try to produce some counter measures, the success of these countermeasures depends on both the hacker's computer skill and your own skill at unarmed combat (in order to slap a patch on the right place on the bot).

They don't really look like Daleks but I couldn't resist the pic.

Does that give me any idea as to the capabilities of the bots?

Like, is this a "Oh. Bots." situation, or "OH SHIT, BOTS!!!" situation?

Do they have fancy things like infrared heat vision, laser cannons, electric swords, etc.

Or are they extremely English, and will simply give me a stiff scolding?

Re: OOC

Folks, if you're interested, there's another game in which I play that is looking for a couple of players.

It's set in the Underground of London (no not the tube system, this is another world - something like Gaiman's London Below or China Mieville's Unlundun) it's roughly present day but it started in 2019 and there is no Covid (but there may be other biological and ontological horrors).

Here's the 'about the game' section.  It's a homebrew game based mainly on Esoteric Enterprises with elements of OSR but the GM black boxes it.

quote:
London, beneath the veneer of mundanity there is a second city and Undercity. In Under London there are far stranger and more frightening things. In suburban basements, secretive cults worship old, alien gods, offering sacrifices of spilled blood and burned banknotes. Strange creatures live in the sewers and catacombs and Tube tunnels, things that look human at first glance but behave in profoundly odd ways and display weird and unnatural powers.

Driven men and women conduct research into the occult, unlocking the forbidden powers of the arcane and hiding their experimentation from the authorities. University libraries contain books kept under lock and key, so that only the most trusted scholars are allowed to study them, for fear of releasing things humanity is better off ignorant of. In the penthouse apartments of business-district tower blocks, the wealthy traffic in things best left alone to scrape whatever advantage they can over their rivals.

In this world, the supernatural is frighteningly real. It is an old and unpredictable force, a harbinger of madness and death and widespread destruction. Magic corrupts and inhuman beings prey upon humanity.
The mundane authorities are well aware of this. Considering the massive damage that can be done by a magical mishap, how could they not be?

Knowledge of the supernatural is suppressed, trading in magical supplies proscribed, and esoteric organisations frequently investigated and prosecuted. The British law enforcement agencies deal with occult crimes at least tangentially, and as rumors go have a whole department, the dreaded MI11, dedicated to keeping the supernatural under control.

The occult underground is live and strong, where the authority iron fist tries to choke the life of the magical trade there is room for a new type of professional. Small enough to fit the cracks, unimportant enough to be expendables you are an Undercity professional gather your crew or work solo to claw some piece of heaven in this dark corrupted city.

In 1978 in Academic circles the word for 'I don't know what gender' was 'he'.

S/he mir and zers began in the early eighties and xe/xer in the 90s.

In East Anglia though, and most other 'non standard' English dialects, it was 'they'.

I'm not deliberately going out of my way to add anachronisms and rub the "ha ha my senseis are time wizards" thing in anyone's faces, but Inoue genuinely is not quite of this world and when something happens that draws my eye I feel the need to subtly highlight it.

I think I am full up on supernatural secrecy stuff. Plus I don't recognize the system and don't feel like learning a new one right now.

As long as we're talking about games, I just put something up in the discussion and advice forum a little while back. Even if you're not interested in playing I would really value any feedback anyone has on the basic premise and some of the questions I highlighted in my last post. link to a message in another game

I suspect we need a post from the GM on how we get together

My default position is 'I am hiding in a crypt behind multiple locked doors...' If Rhiannon goes to sleep I'll leave to make a phone call, and maybe that will randomly bump into the others: I am only 600 yards away or something

The other easy solution is that Renee bumps into the others

A third is that Inoue or someother magic user has a vision

Failing that... I suspect we meet at dawn.

Just a FYI

The church door is locked. I think it's pretty easy to pick though ... In the GMs words as long as you aren't actually trying to use your teeth to pick it. These doors often have 200+ year old keys...

I'd just like to remind the GM two things
1: It takes a longtime for the eclipse I checked I couldn't find the duration
2: Rhiannon is already down in the the crypt and I'd have closed the door behind me.

She's in the crypt for exactly this scenario

If absolutely necessary I'll pay a drama point to make that definite.

It certainly seems on the face of it that Joe is similar to the slayer.  Fey do do bad things that torment and occasionally kill humans.  Joe's vendetta is going to lead him to kill a load of Fey but then, unlike Christopher, who just killed a god (and no doubt a few hundred humans as collateral), Joe IS Fey himself.

Perhaps a closer comparison would be Spike after he got his soul back or maybe even better, when he decided of his own free will to try to get his soul back.

I think D/GMs/Keepers/Directors/Storytellers tend to forget on RPOL and then when the time comes to make a relatively major award (at the end of a major story arc for example or a series finale) they just say "Go up a level", which is not as much fun and anyway, isn't possible in BTVS.

While we are here:
Assuming the vampires come down the tower rather than through the door, is there anywhere I can be (with Rhiannon) so that we can exit the crypt without them blocking us from the entrance?

Rhiannon can get through the little hole in the crypt, but only in wolf form.  You can't get that way so you'd be stuck although Ann will detect the vampires before they enter the tower so you'd have a little warning.

I thought I'd just explain why 'running away'

Rhiannon will probably try and eat the other players... So we can't have a scene with her in the same physical place. The vampires will come before dawn... Fighting them on my own... in a crypt... no way to escape...  trying to protect the transformed Rhiannon... sounds bad. That kind of led to this.

Hopefully in the future we will have a 'safe place' for her to spend the nights.
