I missed that last question.

Much like Ricka, I have. O preference. If it is convenient for the flow of things for you to roll please feel free to do so. If you wish to put it into my court, I'll happily roll them myself.

Your assumption was not misplaced, because the outcome of these stories is a foregone conclusion.  I'm not sure how much that isn't true, though, of many other stories we'll have.  I certainly plan to put you in mortal danger, and I'm not always sure how you'll get out of it, but I expect that you will.  In any case, I'm not going to leave it such that a bad roll means you have to start a new character.  (If you do something god-awful stupid, however, that might mean you're dead.)

Nice work with the Hero Point Ricka.

Totally forgot about those.

Yeah.  Especially because she correctly guessed that I'll be restoring all the hero points for the first real adventure.  You generally should be pretty profligate with them.  Your characters are intended to be the center of your respective stories, and, just like the main character in a book, have freakish luck when they really need it.  Hero Points are the mechanic to represent that.

(I actually have no idea for any of you whether your gender matches that of your character.  If you'd like to specify what pronoun to use for YOU, when talking about the player, feel free and I'll try to remember.)

Thanks!  I wasn't really trying to game the game though, just doing my thing  :)

(Also 'she' is correct for me OOC too.)

Yes, in retrospect, she wishes they did this with CGs instead of the old school wires...

Hey! At least I don't feel so bad about my own failure of an inaugural roll. ;)

I'm a little curious if anyone caught the reference of the names Gideon and Angelique.  Anybody?

I have to admit that I had to look up the names.  I was originally going to make some play on the name Bob Fosse (which I did not have to look up, but is the only choreographer I know) but Fob Bosse sounded awful.  That movie is Bob Fosse's autobiographical masterpiece.

Scarlet, don't read anything into the symbolism of Angelique.  Sure, she represents death and all, but don't let that deter you from anything you might have planned.  :-)

Really enjoying the variety in preludes here. Neat to see the same world through the eyes of a privileged girl at a dance recital, a street urchin fending off bullies, and a rural farm kid.

Thanks!  I'm glad you're enjoying it.  I definitely am, too.

It has been quite unintentional, but I find myself writing in slightly different styles in the three different threads.  I am more flowery and descriptive in Scarlet's thread, more simple and chopped in Urvan's, and a bit darker in Ricka's.  It fits, and I'd almost like to say I was doing it on purpose, but that's not exactly the case.

Took a page out of Ricka's book for the Hero Point.

I'm glad you had the idea first because I likely would never have considered it.

Re: Out of Character

I had originally planned that he would find you, but we can make this work.  After all, Iwo Behyd is a darn sight more observant and clever than the pompous and fastidious Kaarn.

Oh!  I didn't mean to make his name so similar to your last name.  I was just vamping off the word "cane," being his distinguishing feature, and arrived at Kaarn.  I don't like them being that similar; I'll change it to Aarnik.

Re: Out of Character

I realized something this morning.  While I put together different prelude adventures for you each, they were based on your own backstories and therefore different.  I'm not clever enough to come up with new and original trials for all three of you, and I plan to reuse them, having at least the same starting points for each.  Since some of them have plot twists that would diminish the story if you know it ahead of time, I am going to have to keep the threads private to just each player.  After everyone has finished a story, I'll open it up so you can see each other's approaches to the same problem, which will be interesting in entirely a different way.

tl;dr: I will be starting a new thread for each chapter for each PC, and the threads will be private.

My other vice, besides RPGs, is poker.  I'm a winning player, even though I don't get to play that often.  My 2021 spreadsheet shows me winning over $3400 in 68 hours of playing.  I've been waiting to play this year until we dropped down out of Stage 5 Covid risk, but we're finally down to Stage 3, so I got to play for the first time since last December.

I just booked the biggest win of my life.  Playing $1/$2, for 4.25 hours, I made $2615 profit!  As an hourly rate, it's not bad at all.  :-)

17:04, Today: Ricka Bellsmith rolled 29 using 1d20+9.  Stealth.

I deem this roll to be very acceptable.

A natural 20 on one of your best skills.  That will generally work.

Ricka Bellsmith:
... my hair is not orange, shitface.

Is it not?  You haven't posted a description, so I'm just going by your picture.

Note that the color we generally refer to as "redhead" is orange.  It's called red because in English we did not have a name for the color orange until the 17th century.  The color is actually named after the fruit, not the other way around.  I just found this, which I found interesting because I love etymology.  https://lithub.com/color-or-fr...etymology-of-orange/

Compare.

Same check with one that is not out of a bottle.  It's more obvious, here.

If you haven't guessed, I'm just vamping the threads for you two get-a-lifers :-) to allow Scarlet time to post.  All three are essentially one post from wrapping up and we'll go on to the chapter 1.
