Re: OOC Chat 1

To make the Transition as clean as possible and for me to get caught up can everyone add Dungeon master to their private thread they had with fate. So That way I can understand any secrets or closed door talk that would be important.

I am getting the setting worked out and set up for myself and will be able to continue the story seamlessly in the next couple days. keep getting to know each other IC.

Jaxson will continue to adventure with you, until we hit the major city and from their we will see what happens to him.

Huh, you should be able to see all the Private Messages, is that not the case?

Re: OOC Chat 1

I have read all backstories, really fun ideas! Rest assured, all agreements, that were talked about with Fate I will 100% uphold. I don't know were Fate was thinking about taking some of your backstories, he gave some ideas into it, but I have ideas and ways to make your characters come alive, this should be fun.

I will be posting a lore drop Notice. The setting was Fate's homebrew, that I am going to combine with my own homebrew. The world, and setting I have homebrewed is only a foundation for stories. The present and future has and continues to be created or destroyed by my players.

Hey, Fate.  I haven't actually listed a Favored Enemy.  Can I take Followers of Hextor?

Lol that’s great!

I wanna say yes. But, how would you distinguish a Follower of Hextor? They make up multiple races. I mean you can choose two humanoid races with an vendetta against hextor. Unless you can give me a clear way to tell the difference I don’t see how that could work.

Re: OOC Chat 1

They used to allow it in 3.5.  Even though they are humanoid, I would make this a specialty thing, so it's the only Favored Enemy for that choice.  Little tells. Hextor is a god of war and tyranny, which means his followers will generally be violent and cruel, might-makes-right types.  Preferred colors worn, things said most people would consider innocuous, recognition codes:  specific phrases, secret handshake.  Probably more of an Insight check than Survival or Perception.
Actually, I may give him beasts/animals for now, then, when his next terrain and enemy choice comes up, try the Followers of Hextor.

Re: OOC Chat 1

yeah there was a variant in 3.5 to allow for "Followers of X god" for ranger favored enemies.

I'd say... generally speaking, Followers of Hextor are pretty out there and open with their faith. Not a ton of Hextor spies overall in their group hierarchy I'd think! And therefore probably pretty easy to ID for the most part.

Re: OOC Chat 1

Well, 3.5 allowed for other Favored Enemy groups, not just cultists and followers of religion.  You could pick Thayans, Zhentarim, guild thieves, or pirates, for example.  They did not really make any specifications.  But, it was an official house rule.

Re: OOC Chat 1

After some thought, I don’t see an issue with you taking the Followers of Hextor as a favored enemy. I like the idea of it, and fits the role play really great.

Re: OOC Chat 1

I will take that when he gets another Favored Enemy at 6th level.  For now, he takes... Drow and Kobolds.  May not be likely to encounter them above ground, but it makes sense for a miner.

Re: OOC Chat 1

So since this will likely be of general interest to the party at some point what do we know about the local Hextorite church?  Cassidy would have had to learn something about local people in positions of influence, for example, but would she know the names of some important clerics and such?  Or possibly our own cleric might know some names of the competition, so to speak?

OOC Chat 1

It seems to me there isnt a direction you all are taking yet? Keep chatting? I haven't posted any thing IC because it seems there is a great discussion of strategy going on. Do I need to help move anything forward?

---

Dogma
The church of Hextor teaches that the world is a harsh, unforgiving place. The strong rule the weak, and power is the only reward worth having. Cruelty and mercilessness are necessary tools. Order must be forged from Chaos and law from anarchy, but order is meaningless without the will to enforce it. Tyrants are to be obeyed, and dissenters are to be oppressed or killed. Slaves must obey their masters.

---

Give me a history check, anyone. You all have seen, even might now some clerics, and or observed the order of the Hextorites, but it has been a long journey and your exact knowledge is needed now.

13:18, Today: Durgo Jasperbeard rolled 21 using 1d20+1.  History check.
Why are my Natural 20s in my games all coming up on things like this, rather than in combat?

DM, from your post it sounds like they're at our rear, either on their own business or chasing us. Is that correct? I've been thinking the camp was between us and the Duke.

Also, would the scout have described the territory around the camp- basic terrain features? What's that like?
