Just letting folks know I’ll be putting the game on hold Friday and Saturday so folks can spend the holiday w/o worrying about the game.  Additionally I know the time it takes to make a character for the game so take time and any questions let me know.

The core book only has the basic dwarf so you can go with the basic dwarf from the core book.

Just letting folks know what type of cast we so far have:
High man fighter

Human? Rogue

Comman man arch mage

Dwarf? Fighter?

Dwarf? Cleric??

Please let me know what kind of the specific races ie there are several species on human, common man, mixed man, high man.

 I just checked the core book only lists the best
Asic dwarf. So that is fine. For humans you need to select what kink of human, same with elfs, there are several to choose from.

Mixed man arch mage, actually.

If I'm the only spellcaster, I may got for elemental Ways instead of Nature's Ways.

Is there a chance of more spellcasters? If so I'll wait on a final base list list. If I can avoid Essence lists, I can wear AT 5 safely

I think it's been more than two decades or more since I've actually played Rolemaster. Looking forward to relearn the things again. I remember the anxiety and sweaty palms during battles, a change of getting killed by some very nasty, though funny, critical.

So far that is everyone who applied.  So the chance of another mage type in small, unless we have another player.  Not a bad turnout considering the age of the system, and the lack of a current base, it’s not one of the cool games.

folks, I'm doing healing through a monk's list and Transferring ways...plus a lot of herbs for the serious stuff (I have a list to boost them, too for later learning). However, If we're starting at 1st level I won't be much of a healer. You might want to lay in some basic herbs yourselves.

Right now it's looking like Druidstaff, possibly overcast slightly, and Body Renewal will be my limit.

I'm going to forgo Essence Attacks. That's a really nice list (Wizard's Elemental Ways) collecting them all together, but it's a LOT of Directed Spells to learn.

So...Nature's Way and all that delightful camping magic for my 6th list, I guess.

Yep if you can start generating the character.  When you finish post the sheet to the correct place, everyone’s sheet should be open for editing if not let me know.  I’m likely to postpone tomorrow a bit.  We are getting serious weather last night and tonight so my wife is nervous and I likely will not get a lot of rest until early am.  Any way get the characters moving like I said I’m not expecting completed characters for some days.  I’ve posted rmc options for character creation.  Some of those will apply to rm2.  Though rm2 has derivative rules for most and even more optional rules across 7 companion books.  If you see a derivative rule and have a question ask.  I will be using some of the rules from rm2 but the big ones that affect early character development are listed already.
I will be using stat gain expansion in companion 5 and a few other that will be for later character advancement.  If necessary I will allow character revision if I come up with a option that affects things at low level.  Remember the secondary skills.

I’ve modified character bio to reflect race and class.  If any are wrong let me know.  As you progress with your characters get on the chat thread and start to work out if or how the group knows each other.  The city watch may have arrested or chased the rogue before, or maybe the rogue might be an informant,  the two fighters might know each other from and altercation or orc attack.  The cleric might have healed one of the others or also helped I. An orc attack,  one of the fighters might k ow the archmage as the kid who lives with the wired old man in the tower down the road.

Just start considering how or if the party knows each other.

I like the idea of Tahari being an informant. He comes from urban background, so if we start in a city/town it might be his hometown where he has stayed all his life (and his mother and brother running their family business are there as well).

Tahari been doing multitude of odd jobs for coin, some obviously illegal, so while he may not have been caught in act yet, he is likely a suspect to the local authorities to keep an eye for and for.

Perhaps Tahari knows the cleric because he had to be patched up by them in the past as well?

My ideas, just that ideas not necessarily true.  Merle is orphaned, how may be part of his story, the hedge wizard is much more and kind of adopted him more due to his connection to arcane power than compassion.  Merle will be concerned since his mentor is acting rather strange the last week.  Merle is living about a mile or so outside of a city, I'd say he would be friendly to either the rogue or dwarf fighter with tales of daring do, that contrast to his more gofer/scholarly life.  The main threats so far around the area are occasionally orcs, weird critters, natural critters, and more rarely undead in so e of the old ruins that dot the landscape.  The time of year would be the spring celebration, when the planting/growing season starts, but something seems off this year.

 Anyway that's my opinion and general starting position.  Any changes desired or alternate ideas are welcome.

"Cunning Man"  is just the term for a male Wise Woman. Merle's apparent skill with magic is probably nil. He's not that sort of Pyro. "Sage" is more accurate than "Wizard" at this point.

Rolling up my character now, but my basic idea is that Ven Zarmentine is high-born and of "Mixed Man" descent -- either the son of wealthy merchant or perhaps a lesser noble -- whatever fits best into the campaign. He discovered his aptitude for using mentalist magic and trained with a strange old mentalist in secrecy. The family disapproved of his practicing magic and wanted him to choose a more conventional profession. After an incident where his magical skills and relationship with the old magician were exposed, he fled home, carrying little more than the clothes on his back. Depending on Gagnrad's backstory, them being drawn together to hunt orcs and other fell creatures nearby

My current set seems to be a mix of Classic and 2. I have the companions (2nd ed), but the page numbers you have for options don't match my book. The rules seem to, just not the page numbers.

I ended up using RM FRP as a refined version of RMSS, mostly for the transcend armor skill.

I'm also creating my character once as a Cleric and once as a Paladin to see which result I like better.

I’ve been checking and frp kind of was a simplified version of rmss but it will still work.  Maybe paladin will work better since it mixes more arms and channeling but remember you won’t get spells until 5th level.

The book makes it optional (GM call) but suggests that the Special Status Category should always be rolled (and the first category which is always picked).

If you want to pick I have no issue, if you want to roll go ahead. For me it depends how solid a vision of the character you have. A solid vision, specific option might help or destroy your concept. A fluid idea has more leeway.

So I'm going with;

1 & 2. Set Option 5: +2 to a Stat or +1 to 3 Stats.

3. Special Ability 11-15: Acute Sense of Smell.

4. Special Ability 86-90: You are unusually Strong.

2a. If picking the same one twice is not allowed then I will roll on Special Items.

I feel like this is in keeping with his name, Beargrasp, and my story that his father was something akin to a Beorning (Bear-Man) while his mother was a Fair Elf.

This will make him an uncanny tracker and plays into the idea that Bugrem calls him in to help with cases (and Orc hunts).

It also has the (somewhat comical) side effect of making him maximum size for his race. You can ALL take cover behind me!

Beargrasp is now 7 feet 6 inches tall (2.24 Meters!) and, since he is a Half Elf, weighs 286 pounds (about 130 kilos).

If he grabs someone and fails a SD test he can injure them unintentionally.

The Shaggy Man of the Wilderness who is oddly attractive when seen up close.

Hope you get better soon. Vitamin d, k2, zinc, potassium, and magnesium.  Boost immune response and help fight the bugs. I’ve been taking them since this started and stayed healthy.

The last time I had a character this cool in RM he was hit by an arrow and killed stone dead in his first fight.

How about this for Ven: He came to this provincial backwater of a city to hide out. He needed to get away from his home city, and was sent here by his mentor and told to lay low. Looking for work, he met Bugrem and Gagnrad and found his skills could complement theirs on these investigation assignments.

Gagnrad seems to be an outdoorsy  type, so likely not from the city?

Merle is apprenticed the the town healer in a small village a hour or so from the city, per the GM.

He is also outdoorsy, although more Druid/Animist than Ranger-ish. And he's a trained healer and herbalist, if only barely.

They may well have met, at the least. Merle and his Master may even have done a bit of patching up for Gagnrad.

Attempting to summarise:
  • Bugrem is a Dwarf and native to the provincial city, having worked here as a city guard, bounder (scout), and investigator. He is broadly at home in the city or its rural surrounds
  • Gagnrad is a Half-Elf from the wilds nearby, having worked with Bugrem as a bounder hunting orcs; the two make a mismatched pair, with a three-foot difference in height!
  • Merle is Mixed Man from a small village nearby, having patched up both Bugrem and Gagnrad whilst being drawing to their tales far from his master's tower
  • Tahari is a Mixed Man and native to the provincial city, working on the edges of the law, and has been an informant to Bugrem in the past
  • Taldrok is a Dwarf and a cleric, which traditionally means some form of Ancestor; I have suggested he might share that Ancestor with Bugrem, but not sure if he's from the city or the mountain halls?
  • Ven is a Mixed Man and from another city, sent here by his mentor to lay low, and has worked with Bugrem (and perhaps Gagnrad) on a case or three

Working away at my character.  I believe paladin better suits my character concept so I have switched professions and I have taken the TP Guardian, so I have the ability to get around.

I was born & raised in the mountain halls but have since moved to the city.

Who would I know?
I've almost certainly worked with Bugrim on several cases / investigations
I've probably hired Gagnrad as a wilderness guide (several times?)
By above association, I know Merle at least professionally
I may have had a run-in or two with Tahari in the past

I've been lucky so far. Even when I spent the day with my daughter when she had the flu (which turned out to be a breakthrough covid case, not the flu) I got away clean. Moderna FTW.
