The crossroads of Vandis
A tall Elf walked into the tavern. She was lean and athletic, moving with grace and confidence, and made her way over to a low table in one corner that often served as an impromptu stage. She carried a Bouzouki made from polished cherry wood, chased in silver, and looking like it cost more than than a suit of plate mail.
She wore an elegant robe like garment that looked to made of black silk and leather over a pairs black silk trousers that ran into tall leather boots. The various buckles, buttons, embellishments, and jewelry that adorned her clothing looked to be worth another fortune. A broad crimson sash around her waist held back a pair of dagger that stuck up over each hip and scimitar that gave of a pale silvery radiance hung just behind her left hip.
She was a very beautiful Elf, with deep gray eyes, long silvery hair, and very pleasant features. Her smile seemed genuine and she was either oblivious to the typically crude comments that assailed such performers from the crowd or experienced enough to simply ignore them. Either way she ascended the makeshift stage and prepared to play.
"I bring you greetings from Morgana of the way, Mistress of the Dark Mysteries, and curious employer to those with stout hearts and wondering souls." She said in loud clear voice. It was beguiling really, but then, what High Elf ever sounded anything less than regal at the center of attention.
She raised the Bouzouki and began a faint tune. The pace of her strumming was quick, the beat was pulse quickening, and the music seemed to grow in volume without effort. After several cords introducing the beat she began singing.
Ooh it's so good, it's so good
It's so good, it's so good
It's so good
The Elf began to sway a bit, tapping her foot and occasionally giving a dance step.
Ooh I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love
A trio of local bards began playing, joining in with a conga drum, a cow bell rattle, and a lute. The kept time, following her well despite obviously not knowing the song.
Ooh I feel love, I feel love
I feel love, I feel love
I feel love
I feel love
I feel love
Ooh fall and free, fall and free
Fall and free, fall and free
Fall and free
People began clapping, and dancing, and often chanting the occasional lyric here and there. The music drew more people into the tavern. More beer was drank, more food was eaten, and yet she sang on.
Ooh you and me, you and me
You and me, you and me
You and me
Ooh I feel love, I feel love
I feel love, I feel love
I feel love
Her voice echoed of the walls around the tavern. Couples drew closer, arm in arm and often rose to dance together where they sat.
I feel love
I feel love
I feel love
I feel love
Ooh, I got you, I got you
I got you, I got you
I got you
Ralston did a jig as he worked the bar. Others watched as the Elf mesmerized and dazzled with he elegant and quick movements and steady upbeat playing.
Ooh, What you do, what you do
What you do, what you do
What you do
Ooh, I feel love, I feel love
I feel love, I feel love
I feel love
The music sped towards its crescendo. Her voice rose subtly in time with the music.
I feel love
I feel love
I feel love
I feel love
I feel love
She ended with a flourish of notes, dancing, and a flirty smile that made people stand and applaud. She was panting, having worked up a light sweat. She bowed extravagantly. Coins were tossed onto the table at her feet, many struck the wall and floor by accident, a few even bounced off the ceiling.
"Thank you good people, I am Venus Humm." She said with a broad smile. "It has been my pleasure to play for you today. As per the instructions of the Mistress of the Dark Mysteries I bid you eat, drink, and make merry."
With that she ripped open a bag concealed inside of her robe-like garment and golden coins poured across the floor.
"Be it known that Morgana will arrive tomorrow to consider the stories of those that would seek to sojourn across the land on her behalf to retrieve that which is lost." The Elf, Venus Humm, verily proclaimed.
Just unexpectedly as her arrival, she strode out of the bar without looking into the crowd draping the instrument across her back. Outside she mounted a tall black stallion and rode out of town casually.
