Re: Sitting in the Corner for Gnoll business
Longstrider led Brother Samuel and Malcolm along the Gnolls' backtrail. Within a mile they came across of narrow stream with a footbridge spanning it along a narrow trail. The Gnolls had laid and ambush and attacked while the troops were crossing the footbridge. Bodies on both sides of the stream and in the water under the bridge lay bodies riddled with arrows. There were, also, several Gnoll's riddled with arrows dead among the ambush.
The broken paths in the undergrowth from the ambush showed where the Gnolls attacked the troops with spears and axes. Bodies littered the shores, averaging two troops to every Gnoll. The bodies were rifled, pillaged for their weapons, armor, shields, backpacks, and belt pouches. It was a bitter fight.
Looking the scene of the fighting over, Longstrider was the first to speak, "Well, lads, at least this fight only left the five for us to deal with. The Gnolls could have pitched a much better ambush. These poor lads will need proper burials. Best we get back to town and come back with men and beasts to carry the dead back."
At the clearing where the party had ambushed the Gnolls all of the looted weapons and gear was gathered. It was a lot of spears and daggers, a fair number of longswords and battle axes, several short bows, and a couple of hatchets and shortswords. Shields and chain shirts were piled alongside the weapons. There were backpacks with the usual travel kit of soldiers; bedrolls, rations, waterskins, oil, metal brushes, wet stones, ropes, tarps, weapons black, and so on.
