Jolant has been around for at least six centuries, but six centuries is a long time. It is a duchy, ruled for as long as it has been in existence by the Ravensbrook family,  currently ruled by the Duchess Lucette Ravensbrook and her husband Duke Andrew Deadroft.

The Blackthorn family is a very old family, and their ancestral home, Blackthorn Hall, lies in the moors outside the city of Dabrokie, one of the wealthiest cities in all Jolant, second only to the capital of Zladava.
