Star Trek Renegades

You consider your options. You have a ship and are free in your time at the current moment. You can round up your crew and head for more profitable shores. Your thoughts go to Gurr and you wonder what your Tellerite contact might have in the pipe for the taking. Gurr had many freelancers who sought him and his ops out, so timing was everything in getting the sweetest deals with Mr. Gurr. There was also Vosh she might have something that might be profitable. Then there is Navaar she might have something available. Or you might seek out others and new contacts in the shadows to see what was available.

Stavock considered these options, but though a Vulcan, he knew his crew were not, and deserved there chance for rest and entertainment. They had been close to death many times in the last few weeks and they needed to relax.

Yes, Navaar and Vosh. He could visit the lodubyaln at her bar, and perhaps Vosh would be there.

He explains this to Hutch and states he would be welcome to join him at midday tomorrow. He had plans to mediate as much had happened, and he needed to logically consider these various occurrences.

The night passes uneventfully and the only sound besides the sound of the ship. Is Krungg and A'dderro sparring and taking joy in the mock combat. The next day several hours before "dawn" you see your terminal blinking that Hutch had received and accepted your offer to go planetside at midday.

Hutch meets you and before long you are in the night scene area of town. Or more aptly put. One of the night scene areas of town. This section was mostly known for its gambling and for the various chance houses and luck parlors.

You both travel to a neon fused area. Even at midday, the traffic here is rather dense. Many porters and foot traffic in this area as street vehicles were not generally allowed in this area to allow the patrons a chance to leisurely walk among the various establishments. Hutch explains that the chance house front you are looking for is called the Solar Rise and he mentions something about a large holo depicting a planetary sun that glowed red. You notice various persons mingling around and you think you see some Starfleet personnel as well. Fairly typical as Risa is in Federation space and is a popular shore leave destination.

Stavock with usual Vulcan logic, never veers from the path, and is only interested in what he sees as a pure construct of mental experimentation into social interaction between the species. Excess emotions never ended well, and generally lead to either, aggression, exhaustion, and mental deprivation due to lack of energy and proper substance.

He walked on...

It is not long till you stand in the entrance of the Solar Rise. There the door person checks you in past the security checks, to the inner entrance. Here a Bolian behind a force screen is cashing out chips and handing out winnings to the high rollers. He inquires if you would like to start a tab to begin gambling.
You look out to the main floor and see a fleeting glimpse of Navaar. Then you see Vosh standing by a craps table cheering and seeing to several patrons. All in all, people appear to be having a good time. The feeling of the Solar Rise is festive and relaxed. Far from the tone and feel of the past few dens of vice that you and the crew have been at.

“We would have words with Navaar and yourself.” He said discreetly.

In reply to Stavock (msg # 782):

"Come to try your hand at the table?" Vosh says smiling. She excuses herself from the patrons and pulls you aside. After looking on who is within earshot she says. "Navaar is on the other side of the gaming floor, is something wrong?" After walking a bit Vosh says,"I had no idea you and the crew were on Risa. After I met Navaar I must say,...you have had some adventures after we parted last haven't you?"

She takes your arm and casually escorts you to where Navaar is playing a different type of game of chance. You see her throwing shiny silver daggers against a rough looking band of sentiants at a holo target. The blades fly through the air striking the holo target as the computer keeps score. From the looks of things and the amount of betted wealth, the game seems fairly high stakes.

“Logic does not conform to chance,” he states plainly, as he allows himself to be lead. He observes the holo game, good for reflexes and personal growth in the martial arts, he surmised. “We are looking for a state of employment, we, Hutch and I, are asking both you, and Navaar, if you know of and good trade!”

Vosh is the first to speak,"There is a certain group of Risans that are in need to moving some,....hot items without the local constables and customs officers poking around. I am told they are moving personal wealth and not recreational drugs or weapons. It sounds easy enough if it all pans out that is."

Navaar having pulled herself from the game steps forward in time to hear the conversation. "Good thing you showed up," she says to the men."A throw or two more and I would have lost my shirt!" Thinking a bit she says. I would talk to old Gimish at the local pawn shop. I hear he acts a go between here on Risa for work!" In the background the crowd hoots and yells as the games of chance ebb and flow.

Hutch shrugs and says,"I would be interested in the grey market informant too. If Risa offers anything of payable work. I might have to move an operation here planetside. Expand my own ventures." It is not long after moving three city districts to a rather lower-class area of town. Here dingy shops and street vendors line the streets hawking their wares. You pass several stalls selling drugs and grey market goods. You notice sentiants, even a few Starfleet cadets buying these as they eye those passing by worry in their eyes at the thought of being caught.

A shop at the end of a particularly odd dead-end street sits ahead. An old fashion style neon sign reads, We Buy & Sell, The two large windows in the store front give off dim light from seen from the outside. Best to go in; a storm is brewing and a downpour seems likely.

The Vulcan enters, thought of his Homeworld and it dry environment, compared to the rain was drastically different. 'still, rain,' he thought, 'has many positive properties!'

He patrols the shop, wondering why Hutch, a well established operative, would he looking for such minor employment.

You all enter the small shop. Inside you see a clutter of shelves and a many variety of things and items on the shelves. If you took time to look around, you could likely find something of interest. There is a large commerce desk and counter at the far end of the shop. There you see an old wizen human male with a wrinkled face and a small ring of puffy white hair encircling the baldness of the majority of his head. He wears standard and  worn work clothes and a heavy apron. He wears a band around his head were various occular attachments and sensors.

He is speaking to a large human male in his mid-thirties wearing custom spacers coveralls. They seem to be discussing the price of a fairly large pink crystal sitting on the counter. You recognize the crystal as a partially refined Dilithium crystal. One of that size would be worth a sizable amount and the ownership of it would require a series of licenses. To sell it to a non-approved source would be frowned upon on most worlds and would certainly pique the interests of the authorities.

Vosh looks at you and winks. It would seem she gave a cursory look at the wares and approves. Vosh being ever involved in the grey markets is quite at home in this environment. Hutch looks bored at the moment, while Navaar is eyeing several gems and jewelry in a secure glass case.

The old man looks you over with discerning eyes and says, " I figured as much when you walked in. You had no trade in your hands so I figure you are looking for work." He draws heavily from his pipe as he asks,"Are you interested in how is it as they say it,......what is your comfort level at the assumed risk of certain jobs? I know most are not too squeamish, but I always ask." He looks over you all , looking for any sign of hesitation.

The old man nods. " I see. A treasure hunter! Why didn't you say so? I have a Pakled named Godnolog that owes me a favor. The favor is part of a Nimbar warp core inside of a Vulcan wreck in a vessel junkyard about 9 parsecs from Risa. It's a Federation location so you will need to stay off the radar and spoof the security there. But if you bring me my warp core from that ancient species I will pay well for it and you can keep the old warp core after I have scanned it with my devices here." He pauses seeing if you agree.

Gimish laughs. "Good point Vulcan! Pakleds are as greedy as us humans! The favor is ,...... how shall we say, without his knowledge. He does owe me, however. I am merely collecting in my own way as Godnolog is hesitant to pay. So I am collecting in my own way." He draws again from his pipe the smell of tar and cinnamon in the air from the pipe smoke. " I can give you 60% of the salvage price from the Vulcan ships hull. I suspect your people might even pay you their fee if you return it to them. It's an old explorer scout but one of your people's finest. They don't build them as hardy as that anymore."

Vosh crosses her arms looking to the old human a sly grin on her face.
Gimish points at her,"Now before you say anything dear. Let the Vulcan master speak his mind!"

“So, we are treating the job as a repossession arrangement?!” Part asked, part states the Vulcan. “My people would be interested in the Nimbar warp core, if they did not requisition the machinery from us, as they may state that it was their property in the first place, then why should they buy it back?”

"Why!", the old man laughs. "Rules of salvage. Since the time of Earth's maritime laws of the sea." He puffs on the pipe again. "If let's say they don't well then, I say I could sell it to you. Or your friends. I think you could get the shipwreck up and running again." He pulls out an old outdated P.A.D. a model over fifteen years old. He starts it and in a few moments, he brings up the files he wants. He hands the device to you. On it is the exact location of the derelict, the supposed security at the floating junkyard, the access codes for the Vulcan ship, and other pertinent information. " So what will it be ?" asks the old human.

Stavock right eyebrow raised, "and taking salvage from another who has a claim on cert salvage is illegal!"

The Vulcan then ponders, "still, my people will not know that, and what they not know is logical in itself."

"This Godnolog owes you, so, it is rightfully yours, and we shall reposes this contraption for you, and sell it back to my people. You have a deal!"

Gimish laughs again his whimsical chortal of a giggle. Then sticks out his hand to shake Stavock's. "As I said. A treasure hunter at heart! I have some things that might help, besides the information and codes on the P.A.D. There is an old shuttle that you might have to use during your initial approach to the floating junkyard. The shuttle is the old Galileo class F shuttlecraft by Starfleet dockyards. Yes, it is old but should look harmless enough not to cause the yard security much to fuss over. Many of these designs are decommissioned and are now in private hands. This shuttle is mine but you can certainly use it on the recovery trip."

"So we are now glorified repo and garbage men?" snorts Hutch. Gimish turns and says, "Yes my boy! Yes! But the job does pay! Depending on your success at this there are more jobs I have open. I want to test you first with a simple one." He draws and puffs more of the foul smelling contents of the pipe. "Just beware the Pakled, Godnolog. Pakleds are dumb , brute, and sometimes violent beings!"
