How easily Diata can handle any knowledge-related task is endlessly amusing to me. :)

I tried to make a librarian, and instead I made a walking library.

Re: OOC Thread II

For the magma elementals, I can cast a 30 foot radius orb of cold spell that deals ~100 cold damage. With the magma elementals vulnerability to cold, that will likely clear out all but the strongest of them, who will still need to make saves or be staggered and entangled. But if it annoys the pyroblasters, we could end up in an awkward fight with us spread around.

I also don't have resist fire, so once we get to the bottom, I will start taking fire damage. Nar (or anyone else) can you grant resist fire to other people?

In a 30-foot radius from myself I can grant FR 15. However, I don't wanna do that anywhere near the pyroblasters because they might take it personal.

They would likely consider that an attempt to starve them and react aggressively, yes - although they'd need to realize they're under the effect of it first, and that it originated from you second. Which they well might, but it's not guaranteed, at least.

Re: OOC Thread II

If we move quickly enough it'll just be a round or two so not too bad, especially given our temp hp.  What I'm concerned about is that Verik can't fly.

Hm. Anybody wants to make an Aid Another attempt (exposing themselves to the Pyroblasters' fires) to help Nar succeed?

Urgently add this to your shopping list for when we level up!!

Can you climb very well? Hover, glide? Teleport?

I like this suggestion!

Can you walk down walls with an insane Acrobatics check?

Re: OOC Thread II

Climb is the skill used to walk along the walls. High enough rolls on Climb lets you move at accelerated paces; assuming you can manage to move at the same speed you'd use for walking, I'd have no problem with having that be described as "running up the walls", but I would not let Acrobatics replace Climb for the task, Climb has little enough use as it is already.

Also, in this particular room the walls are hot (since, you know, lava), so some amount of fire damage would likely be involved in any climbing attempt.

Re: OOC Thread II

For some reason I thought there was a use of Acrobatics to slow down your fall if you have a wall or pole along your path down. Maybe too ninja though!

Re: OOC Thread II

Acrobatics is the skill that reduces falling damage, that's correct. The direction of movement there is the opposite from what Climb does, though - falling is going down. Verik has a great Acrobatics score, which certainly has plenty of uses - it just can't be used to fly or wall-walk.

Wait are we going up?
I thought we entered the tunnel from the top and the door out was at the bottom.

Re: OOC Thread II

You are going down, yes. It's a three-hundred feet drop from your entrance to the bottom, which is a lava floor; I don't think using Acrobatics to reduce falling damage is going to help there, but Climb allows for controlled movement. This whole conversation started because Verik stated that he can't fly, and "but he can fall really well" isn't going to help, whereas "but he can use the walls to climb down" might have.

Basically, you asked me "can Verik use his excellent Acrobatics in place of Climb to descend the shaft safely?", and the answer to that is no. He could dive into the lava and slightly reduce the falling damage he'd take from it, but that's an entirely different thing from what you asked.

I like the idea of Verik reducing his fall damage from 20d6 to 19d6 though!!

I have Boots of the Cat in my inventory though, all falling damage dice would be automatic 1's and he would land on his feet.

...He'd still land in lava, but he'd land on his feet.

Re: OOC Thread II

Verik is actually fine with walking around on lava (or other liquids).

I guess I'll just eat the falling damage with my mass of temp hp.  It's not that big of a deal, I was just checking if anyone had a better solution.

BUT...  How are we gonna get back up once we go down there?  I suppose climbing works...

When we level up he'll be able to fly, that was already in the plan.

Re: OOC Thread II

In reply to Verik (msg # 756):

Next level i could carry the entire party at the same time XD

Still, there is an alternative: A Bag of Holding, of which i have Type IV:

quote:
Carrying capacity: 1,500 lbs.
Contents volume limit: 250 cubic ft.

If living creatures are placed within the bag, they can survive for up to 10 minutes, after which time they suffocate.

So just climb into my bag and i can carry all of you no problem as long as the trip wouldn't take more than a minute or two (assuming the ten minutes of air is shared between occupants) and even then it could be done in multiple trips assuming it wouldn't take more than ten minutes (plus however many rounds you can hold your breath for).
