Our story takes place in a small island known as Castaway Caye. The island is an independent "nation" in the world of Egradu, although nation might be a generous use of the term when speaking of Castaway Caye. The vast majority of the locals call Barnacle Bay Port home, which is the only proper city found on the island. Typically, a place like Castaway Caye wouldn't be of much importance to folks that were fortunate enough to be born elsewhere, but given the fact that its an "independent nation" without traditional laws, authority figures and a proper chain of command, Castaway Caye has become an ideal destination from shady characters hiding from their past and laws of other nations.

Barnacle Bay Port is like many other port-cities, with most of its economy relying on trade. The local market has many stalls that offer a wide variety of exotic goods, which is due to the fact that Castaway Caye is found on the path of several trading routes. Since there aren't many inhabitable isles nearby, Barnacle Bay has become a default destination for sailors and traders alike. One would think that Castaway Caye is coveted by many other nations due to its location, which is in fact the case, although to date no other nation has managed to claim it for themselves.

While Barnacle Bay boasts a number of taverns, there is one establishment that reigns over all others; The Cursed Doubloon. This popular inn, owned by a Half-Orc woman known as Gazira Wrathstorm, not only boasts some of the strongest drinks in town, but it also serves as the de facto headquarters for the local privateer guild. Thus, the establishment not only serves as a source of entertainment, but also as a source of employment for mercenaries that have gone through the trouble of registering officially with the guild. As it turns out, Gazira happens to also lead the local privateer guild in addition to being the proprietor of The Cursed Doubloon.
