It's actually very difficult for me to say anything positive about that.

So put simple: no. No that's not acceptable. I don't know how you think it could be acceptable. I ... struggle ... to find words expressing the depths of my revulsion towards the idea.

May I suggest a different character? Or not having a 'slaymate'.

As I say (especially after that remarkable list) no permanent undead are acceptable to Maevre. Similar evil acts are also not acceptable. Perhaps that means I have to leave the game if you aren't going to change... Well that's always an option.

I would prefer that as you are the person joining the existing game, you made a character that is more widely acceptable.

Re: OOC Thread 2
I have to second Lady Maevre there, no way I would play with that kind of a character.

Once I played a Paladin of Freedom with 'Life Leech' feat, but I treated it as a curse, some powerful wizard cursed her so she could not save her family - in fact she killed them with her presence unintentionally.

But killing children is very dark.

And I believe most soldiers you encounter will agree with your assumption being in the military makes them evil.

If you provide with free continuous healing, I won't mind :D

Perhaps we can all try to work together? The couple in the example may work for the enemy. It won't be innocent persons, right Adriliana? Again, free healing. We surely can overlook some collateral damage in exchange of free healing forever, right?

We can even encounter the damn thing being used by the next necromancer we encounter.

This could mean healing via empowered mass inflict wounds at higher levels. I approve. I'll kill the babies myself while Adriliana heals us, LOL.

Re: OOC Thread 2
You know that argument doesn't work. But it's funny.

It's pretty simple really... whoeever kills the child... Maevre tries and kills. Since that's PVP... I'd have to leave the game. There is no character I could play that wouldn't act that way. Perhaps that's a character flaw in me personally, but hey... I am happy with that characer flaw.

If we can all make compatible characters that would be great. I personally am incapable of making a character that is so evil they would accept the vision of horror that is being presented for the Slaymate.

I'm not worried about minor evils like 'raise the dead that just fell' or a summoning spell. I can cope with that level of evil. (That's actually an effort for me, but I can bring myself to do it). I can't however cope with the mindset that thinks it is even remotely acceptable to do steps 1...4 and repeat.

So as I repeat.. could we make characters that are acceptable to us all?

Re: OOC Thread 2
I thought this was a game about role play, but from the character descriptions I get it is more power play than anything else.

If you want indefinite healing, chose 'Touch of Healing', though it gets you to 50% HPs only, it doesn't involve killing, innocent or not innocent, kids.

Errr...
*crosses fingers*
Okimi?

Cassandrine, that feat heal to 50% as you say. With a single feat you can be 100% every encounter. All of them. I can offer you that. You can do a lot of good with your health at 100% all the time, right?

Re: OOC Thread 2
My reading: She's a druid. To do the feat she has to be effectively 'undead'. It's hard to be an undead druid, given that druidic RP is mostly about 'nature is good, unnatural is bad'. Hence the 'Hard Pass'.

Similarly if I was to take the feat I would have to be effectively undead. That's incompatible with the character I am playing

I could take a character that would do it. For example a character ressurected by some Nameless Necromancer, but I'd have to totally different to now, and I am heavily invested in Maevre

@Roleplay
I should say that being the daughter of Mab is a disadvantage... it was meant as such. And was meant to be a nice RP point.

Re: OOC Thread 2
I'm afraid I am doing an ultimatum

Please remember I joined this game months ago and have played in it

New players have come along that think sacrificing children after torturing them, and repeating the process until one of them changes into an undead is acceptable.

It is not acceptable to me. I am unable to express fully my revulsion towards this idea. Please design a character that is compatible with the existing players. If you can't I'll have to exit

Normally I would just exit, but I am the existing player, and it's a new player coming, so I am asking as clearly as I can to make a character that doesn't think sacrificing a stream of children for personal power is a reasonable thing to do. You can extrapolate from that other 'nos' if you want.

Thank you

It has been a very short time no see, Ok...Lady Maevre.

Well... first of all, my Dread Necromancer was accepted by the GM. And there is nothing about not evil in the creation rules. So I am not doing anything wrong. I can be useful to the group to a certain level and I really don't think that four (4) IC posts in two months can give you seniority over anyone.

I will wait for the GM's decission then.

Re: OOC Thread 2
You do that. But you have created a character that is not compatible with the others. Neither I or Cassadrine will play with that character

It's not about being a Dread Necromancer, that's all cool. It's about being willing to sacrifice and torture children for power. That is not acceptable

After talking with Lady Maevre, I think my playstyle will crash a lot here. I don't do ultimatums, I will simply bow out of the game.

I appreciate and thanks the opportunity that the DM gave me in this game.

Thanks and good luck to you all.

I guess I will have to leave then. Mavre left another game, I am leaving this one. Next time I will stay. Hope we don't meet again soon.

I am thankful to wlake.gmtn for giving me the opportunity of playing this character and I look forward to play with the GM in the future.

Re: OOC Thread 2
Seems like you and me, Cassandrine. The idea was to roleplay from whence we got the ball rolling. To me the whole idea of marking a game as mature is that there will be uncomfortable themes. We can always do a one-on-one game, Cassadrine.

The set-up was so that you would roleplay within the city, perhaps engaging in combat soon and perhaps not. So character specifics wouldn't come into play until there was your initial combat within the city.

Definitely accept evil characters, to me there is no other point of elucidating alignment.

So the wagon has about 10,000 gp worth of goods on it, actions taken by the players would influence that and otherwise you could explore the city.

I'll bump the game in case we can recruit more players.

Re: OOC Thread 2
Well I think it's easier now

If you are the kind of person who is comfortable torturing and sacrificing children, serially, purely for power Mr GM, then I don't think I want to play with you

I have no problems with the bad guys (the NPCS) doing these things. I have massive problems with a GM rewarding players for such repugnant actions.

That's not a mature theme... It's a repulsive sick vile theme. I suggest you look at your moral compass and fix it.

I don't think I will be seeing many of you in future games, so I wish you all happiness in the future. I hope you don't torture too many children, but I guess that's too much to hope for

Goodbye.

Lady Maevre:
I'm really struggling talking to you and getting information

I'm asking questions and getting no answers. I asked you in OOC, repeated in a PM. Please engage!

Is there any chance you can answer the following questions.
quote:
Answers we need from the GM

What is the state of the city?
  • Is it functioning and like normal
  • Is it rioting in panic as it flees the demon invasion
  • Is it on fire?

If there was a demon invasion how long ago was it?
  • Five minutes
  • five days
  • five years?

Maevre started in the city once before
  • Was that five minutes ago, five years ago?
  • My preference is that it didn't happen, because I was confused about it all, and then we can arrive on the boat together

There was immediately a demonic invasion so there's the social aftermath to be played through. The city's state is unknown until you move into it and RP as immigrant-travelers. Lady Maevre, your other character can be an NPC or an alternate character upon your death (if that should occur). Or nothing, your call.

The boat intercepted a fellow elf (the caravan master) and after some conversation, they decided to head into the city to prepare for a further venture to Baden's Bluff.

Sorry you didn't like playing again; if we had seen some RP inside the city walls, you might have been pleasantly surprised. C'est la vie.

Re: OOC Thread 2
It's not about the RP between me and you, it's because you support  torture and murder and ritualistic slaughter of children among the players, and will reward it with in game benefits. Lesser matters I can accept, but here we are talking about torturing and ritualy slaying children in a particularly unpleasant fashion. To be fair it would the same if it was adults, but involving children made it really easy.

That you reward this behaviour, and allow... even encourage it... in your players because it is a 'mature theme' says a great deal about your character, and your morals, and I do not wish to play with either you or the people you reward.

Should the bad guys be doing it, and we were required to stop it... that's fine. It's not about the 'theme'.... it's because you are encouraging people to RP that behavior and rewarding them with (in this case) extraordinarily good rewards.

Re: OOC Thread 2
My goodness, I have one busy weekend and everything goes south. :(

From my point of view there are different ideas that clash at this point. The players who wish to portray evil characters, doing horrible deeds, consider this 'just a game' nothing evil actually happens (very much like GTA). Of course that is one way to look at it. Then there is the other side, Maevre and me, who have a vivid imagination; just picturing the others gruesomely slaughtering children is horrifying. Some people like horror movies, others don't. Like Maevre, I can deal with our opponents performing such deeds, but I cannot imagine associating with another character doing such vile things, to children in particular.

Perhaps a different way to say it is: Some people get into their characters/roles deeply, others merely superficially. I'm positive you have seen a movie or read a novel that dealt with a detective having to get into the head of a serial killer (ie. Silence of the Lambs or "7" etc.) usually they bring up that the detective is abhorred by the process of getting into the criminal's sick thought processes.

So, maybe you - as GM - need to decide on what type of players you wish to attract. Are you interested in power-gamers (since the evil aspect was clearly explained to be a necessity for increased power) or do you wish to cater to players with more interest in deeper roleplaying?

Btw.: The setting to 'mature' does not mean you have no rules of your own, I remember one GM who insists on a non-cursing policy, despite the game being flagged as 'mature'. As GM of this game you can decide how much you want to allow and how many restrictions you wish to set. Just put them in the "How to rtj" thread for potential players and everyone knows what to expect.
