As Crewman Yu slinks away, an Ensign wearing security gold pulls him aside and begins to ask him some questions...

Devon kept an eye on the conversation between Yu and the security guard, though for the moment she kept her attention on the biobed and making sure it was in good working order.  If they were still talking when that was done, that would be time enough to join in.  After all, yelling at the Sickbay team was her prerogative, not Security's.

The security officer is tough but seems fair. His partner holds a tricorder to monitor Crewman Yu's biosigns as he responds to probing questions about biobed maintenance procedures and the failed power distribution relays.

They finish with Yu fairly quickly and, perhaps a bit reluctantly, release him to his duties, but as you finish up at the biobed, the security officer presents himself. "Hello Doctor, I'm Ensign Chuverk from the security department. I'm investigating the recent power failure for any signs of sabotage. May I examine the maintenance records for Sickbay. Your Crewman Yu seemed a bit... uncertain about a few things that I would like to check up on."

Devon's first thought had been that any relevant maintenance records would have been deleted or falsified, so though she had checked them earlier, she hadn't really taken them seriously.  On the other hand, they would have the resources and time to study them more closely than she could, and it would also be a useful way of keeping them busy and not getting underfoot.

"Maintenance.  Sure."  She straightened up from the biobed and went over to the nearest computer console.  "It took me a little while to find them, actually.  The previous CMO had them filed under F, for -- I don't know, fixing?"  Either whoever had been in charge before had had some interesting ideas about keeping organized, or they'd joined in the mutiny in their own small way, by making everything as hard to find as possible.  Rapidly pressing a few buttons, she got the files up on the screen.  "Help yourself.  I'll be around."  And without a backwards glance, she headed over to the next biobed.

The ensign chuckles as you explain the previous medical officer’s erratic filing systems. “Doc Vin’dex always struggled a bit with some of our regulations.  That old Denobulan had about two dozen medical degrees but couldn’t figure out where to keep his maintenance records or how to use the replicator.” Turning to the files, he adds, ”I’ll transfer these to the Security department and get out of your way Doc. You don’t need security underfoot.”

"I'm not all that good with regulations either, actually, but I can at least work a replicator," Devon said.  I might actually have gotten along with old Doctor Vin'Dex, she thought, though she did wince a little at the diminutive that was immediately applied to her as well.  Getting called 'doc' wasn't something she'd ever gotten to like, and was in fact her brother's main method of annoying her.  On the plus side, the Ensign did have sense enough to know when he was in danger of getting in the way, so all in all it was a wash.

"Good, we're going to be too busy around here to entertain security guards until at least next Tuesday.  Hey, has anyone checked those tricorders?  No, those tricorders, in the storage unit," she said, promptly forgetting all about the ensign and striding across the room, grabbing the nearest medtech by the arm along the way.

You team scurries in your wake, double checking that the settings on the true orders have been updated with the most recent inter species biometric data and accepted the time consuming recalibrations.

After perhaps another hour of work, the security officer has returned to sickbay and asks for a moment of your time to discuss something odd about your maintenance logs.

As much as Devon preferred to keep busy, all this was starting to feel a little too much.  Still, they were nearly done, light finally at the end of the tunnel, and then maybe she could actually start trusting her Sickbay again.  Maybe.  At least it seemed to be getting everyone working as a team.  She'd always assumed that the best method for making that happen under her leadership would be everyone else uniting against her and her temper, but apparently this worked, too.

And then the ensign wanted a moment of her time.  She had sworn under her breath as soon as she caught sight of him returning out of the corner of her eye, though at least with that few moments of warning she was able to put a more neutral expression on her face.  Well, perhaps neutral was too strong a word, but at least an expression that looked less like she wanted to throw things.  "Right.  Sure.  I don't know how much help I'll be, but I'll try.  No problem."  Dusting her hands off -- unnecessarily, of course, since the environmental systems hadn't failed, at least not yet -- she flopped down into the chair at her desk.  "All right, what have you got?"

Though she still wasn't looking forward to this conversation, at least the ensign had a specific question that wasn't just "Who do you think the saboteur is?"  Devon was exactly the wrong person to ask about either doing anything sneaky or catching anyone doing anything sneaky, but then, no one here really knew her yet and they probably tended to assume that most officers, even medical ones, actually paid some attention to Starfleet politics.

"The scanning array was misconfigured," she began.  "That's what monitors the patient's condition -- vital signs, brainwaves, and so forth.  Crewman... what's his name?  Yu?"  Chuverk nodded and Devon launched back into her explanation.  "He was performing a maintenance check on the bed, but he didn't complete it.  I saw that he was closing up the panel and stopped him.

"But, well -- to be fair, it's chaos around here,"
she added, suddenly wondering if she was making it sound like she'd decided to take the easy way out and blame Yu for everything.  "We're triple-checking everything.  And -- honestly, I intimidate people.  So he might have just been nervous about the odds of me yelling at him about something and was working too fast."

”I think I follow,” Chuverk replied slowly. ”He seemed very nervous when I spoke with him earlier, perhaps you are right and he was a bit intimidated or embarrassed.” he adds pulling out his PADD. “I’m hopeful you can help me better understand something about course offerings for medical officers at Starfleet academy. I noticed on Yu’s file that he completed Advanced Diagnostics and Biomedical Engineering Integration.  Would that kind of training provide exposure and I understanding of this equipment? Is the calibration procedure something Yu would be familiar with after this advanced specialist training?”

Devon raised an eyebrow at this question.  "Did he pass?" she asked, bluntly, then shook her head.  "Because that course is all about biobed maintenance and repair.  Theoretically, if he didn't sleep through the whole thing, he should be qualified to take apart a biobed and put it back together blindfolded.  Of course that's just the theory, even Starfleet Medical does sometimes pass people they really shouldn't, I've seen it before."

She hesitated, then gave the ensign a searching look.  "Should I be planning an intense refresher course for him, or shouldn't I bother?"

Sirin beeped entry. He noted that the Ensign was there. He carried a small carrying case with a variety of engineering tools and parts.

"Good day, Doctor Bishop.

I was hoping to personally inspect a few things in Sick Bay, just to make sure there are no more issues with you or your patients in the future.

Do you mind if I take a look? It shouldn't take more than a few minutes."

Sighing, Devon leaned back in her chair as the lieutenant spoke.  "Sure, why not?" she said, throwing up her hands.  "Everything's half-dismantled already anyway."  This was an exaggeration, but it was true that the Sickbay was, in general, in a somewhat chaotic state, with open panels on at least half the biobeds, and she was clearly not happy about that.  "Just don't hurt yourself while you're inspecting," she added, dryly.  "That might be a problem at the moment."

"Injuring myself would be a sub-optimal strategy, to be sure.

However, if it does, I'm sure at least one of these medkits actually work."

He said dryly before he began working on the room. While he was here, he might as well spent a few minutes getting at least one of the biobeds working: assuming there wasn't yet another new issue.

@Devon

As you turn back to the security ensign, he flashes through the information on his PADD and says, "Yes Doctor, he passed."

Paging through some additional information, he adds, "Phoenix is his first assignment after Startfleet academy and he was on board under Captain Maxwell. His service record is clean, but that mistake with the biobed seems suspicious, I may need to ask him a few more questions. Do you have time to accompany me on this investigation? In case something technical comes up?"

@Sirin

After a few moments of inspection and after lending a hand on a malfunctioning biobed imaging relay, you can turn your attention to secondary overload buffer #4. Stooping inside the entrance to the Jefferies Tube, it fortunately isn't far to junction 2 where the infected sub-processor is wired into the power distribution network.

Taking the overload buffers offline for a few moments, you quickly swap out the infected sub-processor and replace it with a unit running the newest upgrades.

Confident your repairs are complete, you can either return to sickbay to keep lending a hand or make your way down to the shuttlebay to conduct repairs on Mockingbird.

Neither of these repairs are likely to draw undue attention from the sabateurs of course, both sabotaged sub-processors have already had their desired effect and it would be unreasonable to assume that repairs wouldn't be made. Unlike your colleagues, you can work in the open without subterfuge.

"Technical?" Devon echoed, a little surprised that he wouldn't ask for an engineer for that sort of advice.  On the other hand, considering the circumstances of the sabotage and how mad she'd been -- not to mention the fact that her record made it clear that she wasn't blindly loyal to anyone -- she would at least be pretty far down the list of possible suspects.  "Sure, I know medical equipment inside out.  I'm probably even better at intimidating people, so maybe I can help with that, too.  Let me just take care of some things around here first."

Tracking down the head nurse, Devon left her with orders to watch everything everyone was doing, then gave the same directions to the intensivist, just in case, before returning to meet the ensign.  "Right, where to?"

Sirin decided to take another look at the shuttle. It would make sense that he'd check out that system twice after a malfunction that bad, and he hadn't had QUITE as much time as he did the first time, due to the impending meeting and other issues.

Right, thank you Doctor," the security ensign replies. "Computer, locate Ensign Yu."

"Ensign Yu is in his quarters." the computer replies dutifully.

With Ensign Chuverk leading, you head off to medical staff quarters, but when you arrive at Ensign Yu's berth, there is no answer at his door.

All remains quiet from inside the room despite the doctor's reassurances.

"Computer, unlock Ensign Yu's quarters." Chuvrek says. "Security over ride, Chuverk sigma ninety-nine." Entering the dark bedchamber, he adds: "Computer full lights."

As the lights come on, you find the inside the ensign's quarters is a mess, the contents of his desk are strewn across the floor and piles of clothes thrown everywhere. Your first impression is that the room has been ransacked, possibly hastily searched. You can't rule out the possibility of a fight either.

There is no sign of Yu. Quickly looking through the mess, Chuverk clears his throat and holds up the medical technician's comm badge. "Think he might have run off after I spoke to him in sickbay? Or maybe there is a co-conspirator that was worried he gave up the goods on them?"

Muttering angry things under her breath, Devon joined Chuverk in hunting through the room, though she was looking primarily for bloodstains or other signs that they might have an injured person somewhere on the ship who would need to be found quickly.  "If he ran off, he'll regret it," she promised the ensign.  "But considering everything that's been going on, it wouldn't surprise me if all the people involved in this mess are turning on each other now that there's a real chance they'll get caught," she added, grimly.

Chuverk replies "If they are turning on each other, they won't be able to move among the crew as easily. Then its only a matter of time before they get caught." he agrees.

Your trained eye picks up something that could be a bloodstain, and a more careful examination confirms your suspicions.

Is there enough blood here for a serious injury, or is this something else?

"There's some blood here," Devon reported, indicating a spot on the carpet behind a chair that has been tipped on its side.  "Not very much, though," she added, as she looked around the rest of the area, tossing aside a throw pillow and a spare uniform.  "Probably a nosebleed," she guessed, glancing around the room once more.  "It does look like there could have been a fight here.  Let's hope they are beating each other up, it'll make them easier to find."
