Campaign Discussion...Setup

What I'd like to do is a game starting at level 1, without a specific setting in mind.   I'm thinking of setting it up as gestalt, and with mythic thrown in at every odd level (including level one).

I'm thinking it'll be heavy on the dungeon crawl/fetch quest elements; with the occasional boss type fight thrown in for variety.   I'm thinking that the game will start with a Necrohol type deal, which means lots of undead.  Please bear in mind that I'm not one for tactical maps, so you'll need to have a bit of flexibility there.

What I'm looking for is 4-6 players who are interested in aiding in the campaign: including but not limited to character backstories being part of the adventure element.   I'm also looking for said players to help with the setup, and having a rather forgiving nature as I'm trying one more time to make a game work.

And...we're in business.  Please understand that the names you're currently under are open to change, should your character concept want it.

That said, I'd like to suggest that we start with party composition and proceed from there.

Do you want to put up any rules or guidelines to start, like are there any restrictions to race and classes?  It will help us narrow down our choices.

I tend to be fairly relaxed in that regard, as long as it's in the SRD; it's usually okay.   When in doubt, ask.  ^_^

In that case, what style of character does everyone want to play? My original concept was a Suli that is a paladin or antipaladin / sorcerer. But I am not dead set on that character, so if everyone else is hoping to play a similar combo, I can easily change my concept.

Some questions for the group:
What style of character do you want to play?
What group alignment are we leaning toward? (Good? Evil? Neutral?)
Have we known eachother for a while?
Do we want to do something quirky like all be in a witch's coven together? (We wouldn't all have to be the witch class. I can elaborate further if anyone is actually interested.)
What Mythic Path does everyone desire?

Also, GM, can I get my character sheet unlocked when you get the chance. I have the feeling this is going to be a fun game!

While an evil game would be interesting I don't think we should be doing it for this type of game.

As for concept for me, I am always open to playing anything.  I was thinking about a bard//oracle or paly//oracle.

I think we should all have known each other as well.

For Mythic Path, I would think Marshal would be best for either.

I may be delayed today due to taking my spouse to the city to visit....the inlaws.

That said all I had so far was likely a bard/sorcerer for one class, or a sorcerer/monk

I have over 5 hours of drive time plus 'visit' time to think on it.

And good day all.

If we have a sorcerer and an oracle already, I will probably switch up my concept. Not sure to what, but something different.

Re: Campaign Discussion...Setup

Hi everybody. I'm really looking forward to this.
My initial concept was a Suli Bloodrager, I've never played either and have just been reading up on them. Second class would be either fighter or ranger since those are the two I'm most comfy with. I'm not set on the Suli and can easily make my Bloodrager/Fighter(Ranger) a Human, Half-Elf or Half-Orc, all in my comfy zone :D
I would prefer to stick with good alignments but I'm open to that as well, I'm cool with knowing each other, I'll post my background later for y'all to see. I'm also cool with any quirky'ness and I have no idea's on a mythic path. I've never made a Mythic build so I'm open to idea's.
Like September I'll be busy most of the day but I'll get back to this later tonight and should be ready to go 2maro or Monday at the latest.

Re: Campaign Discussion...Setup

Greetings everyone!

One question I have is how much world-building are you open to in background story? Or, would you prefer that we begin with amnesia, and slowly gain our memories as the story progresses? Quite frankly, I think this might be more interesting -- especially if we play it as "you seem familiar, but I don't quite remember who you are exactly". That way we don't have to force preexisting relationships (which may or may not exist), but can figure out what works organically as we go.

As for Xavier's questions:
* I'm not entirely sure what you're asking about style? I guess I prefer a style where everyone gets to shine and do stuff and we work together as a team.

* For alignment, however, I would prefer good or neutral, as I've seen evil groups go south far too often without really strong story reasons to keep them working together well.

* For actual character build... I'd love to play a rogue//arcane spellcaster (especially unchained rogue), but I can be flexible; as of right now, I don't have a specific character concept that I'm particularly attached to. It may be more fruitful to talk about areas of expertise rather than classes, however. (And I'd be totally down with a party of bards, quite frankly!)

Re: Campaign Discussion...Setup

In reply to Alyisa (msg # 13):

My idea is that you're going to be taking a job/mission/adventure to retrieve something from a Necrohol.  You'll be starting in the capital city (yet to be named) of some nation (also yet to be named).  You're not required (or expected) to know each other before this, but you're certainly welcome to do so.

Your character backstory is pretty much up to you; as in addition to the usual stuff, you also have to explain the how/why you're a mythic being.  I'm leaving a lot of creative room, rather than limiting to you to an existing source.   While an adventurer's guild would be an easy way to get everyone on the same job; if someone comes up with something better, then I'm all for that.

Re: Campaign Discussion...Setup

In reply to September Nightshade (msg # 11):

If you decided you want to do something like a witches coven, a bard trope, or a wandering band of mercenaries....then that's fine by me.   A semi-plausable reason you're all together works for me, as I'm expecting you to be around level 5 when the current job/adventure is done.   So there's plenty of time to flesh out, or even change, backstory.

I've already run the "play anything" game before; and for race selections, please don't get too esoteric on me.  I forget who asked; but if it's in the SRD, it's probably okay.   I should add the caveat that anything 3rd party needs to be floated by me first.

Great!

So, right now I'm thinking of running a Stormborn Sylph Unchained Rogue//Sorcerer (or Bard, if we go that route) with the Trickster Path gained as a Godling. (She's a child of the God of Storms -- imagine Thor and Loki combined into a single deity.) Thoughts?

If no one has any issues, I'll get started on a 1st level build. How are we doing attributes?

Let's do a modified Heroic method, 3d6+6 drop the lowest.   If you point total doesn't reach a 30 point build, then round up.

Nice stats Alyisa!

If it is okay, I think my new character concept will be a Grippli Monk/Druid.

Edit: Also, are we using background skills and/or traits? Both are pretty common on this site, but not universal.

Additional thoughts:

When dungeon crawling, you'll be expected to consume rations every other rest period and water every rest period.  So either keep Goodberry in your spell list and/or pack lots of granola...I mean iron rations.

Also...do you want to use Hero points?

I am still thinking bard/sorcerer or monk/sorcerer.

Leaning towards phoenix bloodline although considered unicorn bloodline.

But got home less than an hour ago and almost bedtime so may not be in right mind.

I'm going to make up a scaling magic item for each of you to find in the Necrohol.  It'll be something that's good (like a Robe of Archmagi) that'll get additional powers as you go.   So, if you want to wait to take Legendary Magic Item...feel free.

I've decided to go with Half-Elf Bloodrager Fighter w/Elemental Bloodline. I'm trying to finish up my sheet and read the Mythic stuff as I go. As mentioned earlier I have no experience with it at all. Any help or suggestions would be awesome. I'm leaning towards Passed On Ascension and the Guardian Path.

P.S. The Dice Roller was extremely nice to me :D
