The gym was near the sports field, which was massive. There was an Olympic-style track and field yard surrounding the gym. Even an outdoor pool. Inside the gym, there were several different machines, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a basketball court.

"Not bad at all," said Kinexa.  She resisted the urge to head straight for the pool out of respect for Terri... but she was nevertheless heading in that direction.

"Oh, there is a pool. That is exciting!" Terri said as she followed.

"Yes," said Kinexa.  "Just be careful... but I could get you out of the water, if I had to."

Telekinesis training had proven its worth again and again.

"Do you need anything special for it?" Terri asked.

"For the pool?  We normally wear swimsuits," said Kinexa.  "I can change into one whenever.  Taia, what about you?"

"I don't need much," Taia said. "But I do have a swimsuit as well."

"You won't want to wear your normal clothes into the water, Terri," Kinexa pointed out.  "Unless you have a way to dry them out very quickly."

She might, after all.

"Ah, then we should change, yes?" Terri asked.

"Yes," said Kinexa.  "I can do that easily, but let's look for a locker room..."

She did so.

It was easy to find one.

Kinexa went in... but all she did to change was fiddle with a bracelet on her wrist.  The one-piece swimsuit that resulted wasn't overly revealing, but it did expose the vents on her calves and the gill slits along her ribcage.

"Always nice to have more aquatics around," Taia said.

"It's good," Kinexa agreed.  "There's plenty of us on Enceladus, of course.  And your people, too?"

"Not a ton. About twenty thousand or so," Taia said.

"There's a few more of my mother's people, but it's still a small population," said Kinexa.  "Terri, are you going to join us, or just watch, this time?"

"No, no, I am coming," Terri said, having found a one-piece that fits her.

"Very nice," said Kinexa.  "Let's check out the pool."

She stood by to help Terri, of course.

Terri jumped into the shallow end, creating a massive splash.

Kinexa slid easily into the water, making sure that Terri was, you know, not drowning.  Or whatever.

It was pretty clear that Terri's body was denser than most other humanoids, but she was happily splashing around.

Well, that was good.  Kinexa floated around to look for Taia.

You can see her in the deep end which was deeper than you expected. A good fifty feet down. This also seems to be fresh water, as there was no chlorine in the water.

Well, that was good.  Kinexa shot down through the water to join her.

"I guess you don't need the ability to speak under water," Taia said.

No, not at all, Kinexa sent with a smile.  We don't have a spoken language on Enceladus any more.  We only did in the past...

"That's pretty cool," Taia said.

So is speaking underwater, Kinexa sent.  I have no idea how you do that.

"It's a secret," Taia said, bringing a finger to her lips.

It's a good one, Kinexa sent, drifting around.  She wasn't quite swimming conventionally-- Taia could probably tell that she had impeller motors in her legs letting her move around so easily.

"I don't want to be rude, but...," Taia asked, and her thoughts made it clear she wanted to ask about them.

It's a little unusual, I know, Kinexa sent.  Most of the Enceladans don't have them-- they have longer, flippered legs that are very good for swimming, but not good on land at all.  But I'm half-human, so I came out with human legs.  They engineered the impellers for me so that I could keep up with everyone, but they're really good-- I'm faster than normal Enceladans, and I can even fly with them!

"Ah. That's cool," Taia said.

Kind of?  I did feel a little bit out of place on Enceladus, though, she sent.  That's one reason I was eager to go and see the rest of the solar system with dad.

"Well, here you're quite superpowered compared to the average," Taia said.

It's hard to know how to compare, Kinexa sent.  I've had more training than most students here, though, and more experience, too.  That helps.

"True, but I feel confident I could probably match you in terms of swimming," Taia said.

I wouldn't be surprised, sent Kinexa. But I'm up for a race, if you like...

"Let's do that," Taia said.

All right.  One end of the pool to the other!  Underwater only!  Let's do it!

The race was on.

Good match! Kinexa sent.  I'm glad you didn't use your powers against me, though.

"It was just a race," Taia said. "It wouldn't be fair."

You're still truly in your element here-- more than I, Kinexa sent.  She did take a moment to check on Terri again.

Terri seemed to be having fun splashing around, but she hasn't dared to go deeper.

Well, that was all right.  Kinexa swam around a little more just for the fun of it, scanning to see if anyone else was around that she didn't already know was there.

There wasn't anyone else around that you could see.

That wasn't so bad, honestly.  She recalled that some people-- young boys, for example-- were a little bit too attached to staring at girls in swimwear.  Often blatantly, which was the real problem.  She swam a bit more, then surfaced near Terri.

"Having fun?" she asked.

"Oh yes, this is very fun," Terri said.

"Good," said Kinexa.  "Sorry to leave you on your own so much here, but for Taia and I, it's a special treat up here."

"Oh no, it's fine. You both were having fun as well," Terri said.

"Thank you for being understanding," said Kinexa.  "I'm glad you can swim, though."

"I think I am too dense to do it well," Terri said.

"Challenging, yes," said Kinexa.  "I'm still very impressed that you're handling it so well, honestly."

"Thank you for the compliment," Terri said.

"Just don't forget to let me know if you get in trouble," said Kinexa.  Although she was fairly sure that her telepathy would notify her if something did go wrong.

"I will. I plan to avoid the deeper end," Terri said.

"That's a good plan," said Kinexa.  "Let me know when you're ready to get out.  Taia and I could do this all day."

"Even in such a small place?" Terri asked.

Kinexa considered.

"Well... that would need them to re-oxygenate the water, I suppose, at least for Taia.  But they might do that."

"Ah. Well, I can't breathe water," Terri said.

"True," said Kinexa.  "So you can only do this as long as you want to tread water.  But you do seem to have a lot of stamina."

"I do, yes," Terri said. "I do have problems floating though."

"I can see that," said Kinexa.  "Well, let us know when you're ready to stop."

"I am able to get out myself," Terri said, with a laugh.

"I don't doubt that," said Kinexa.  "But I mean, let us know when you want to do something else."

"Ah. I can wait. My friends are having fun," Terri said.

"All right," said Kinexa.  She went back to play around more with Taia, at least for now.

"Anything else you want to do today?" Taia asked. "I'm good."

"Nothing specific," said Kinexa.  "I'm sure I can find my way around campus if I need to."

"Yeah, it seems to have a simple layout," Taia said. "Better than a lot of human cities."

"That, and I have some useful tricks to help," said Kinexa.  "But I'm glad that it isn't more complicated, yes."

"Ah. How many tricks do your cybernetics have?" Taia asked.

"Nothing spectacular," said Kinexa.  "Just transportation, really.  Most of my gear isn't implanted, and my telepathy is natural."

"Ah. Then can you pull out basic information with telepath then?" Taia asked.

"From general collective thoughts, yes," said Kinexa.  "They aren't keyed to individual egos-- just a pool of common knowledge."

"Interesting. I didn't know that was a thing," Taia said.

"It's a technique we learn on Enceladus," said Kinexa.  "Very convenient, because we really aren't invading anyone's individual privacy-- we don't know who has what thought, and it's all impersonal stuff, usually."

"That's interesting," Taia said. "We don't have any telepaths."

"Outside of Enceladus, they aren't very common," said Kinexa.  "I imagine they have to teach themselves, in other cultures... that seems like it could be tricky.  Or horrible."

"I know the humans have a few," Taia said.

"Yes, I'm told they do," said Kinexa.  "I've never met one.  It might be interesting."

"We can try finding one," Taia said.

"True," said Kinexa.  "I'm fairly sure if one turned up near enough to me, I'd notice them-- and they might notice me, too, if they're well-trained enough."

"Interesting, it would be nice if it we a learnable skill," Taia said.

"Well, you can train with it quite a lot," said Kinexa, "but I have no idea how to make non-telepaths telepathic.  There might be a way, of course."

"Yeah, a shame," Taia said. "But I guess it'd be like trying to teach a human to breathe underwater."

"...although with technology, they can," said Kinexa, thoughtfully.  "I wonder if there's an equivalent?  Far beyond what I know, though."

"Sure, but it's not really breathing water," Taia said.

"I'm told that there are options, at least using some advanced technology," said Kinexa.  "...I suppose it wouldn't really be the same, though, would it?"

Taia stretched.

"Shall we head back?" she asked.

"We might as well," said Kinexa.  "We ought to get dinner sometime, too."

"Food would be good," Terri said.

"Then let's go!" said Kinexa.  She did remember to change, at least.
