OOC:

Hopefully soon. RL has been kicking me in the teeth too.
I hope to have an introductory post sketched by Monday earliest, Friday latest.

OOC:

OK Jorik is slightly different from other Fryeslyers in that the first time you all saw him at the binding he was actually already dead.

Background:
Jorik Sternbok was born into war he was strapped to his mother’s back as his lodge fought off the foul undead that threatened their hold.
As soon as he could walk he was given an axe, his mother and father teaching him the art of war from an early age.
He grew up in the Urlung hold and became a member of the lodge’s warriors defending their vaults and people from vampires, undead and other foul creatures.

As a Fyreslayer he dedicated himself to the warrior god Grimnir and carried the two handed battle axe as a symbol of his loyalty.
He received his first Ur-gold rune at an early age and over the years have adorned his skin with many of them in honour of his god and people and to aid him in the battle that was his life until he died.

Jorik died, he died battling the undead, he died on top a pile of rotting bodies giving conclave he was sent to protect a chance to escape. He died a hero but he did not stay dead for long.
The gods saw something in him that day, something that marked him as a symbol of good for the selfless act of his death. The gods decided that this could not be wasted and thus brought his body and soul to the binding and bound it to the others, this drew life back into the dead and he rose again to fight again to defend the innocent masses from the darkness and undead hordes.

He returned to the site of his death and gathered the bodies of his fallen companions he burned their bodies in honour of their passing and collected the bones grinding them in to a fine dust.
He carries this with him at all times and when the battle seems lost he mixes a little with water and paints their death mask onto his skin and each time he has found the courage to fight through whatever the odds and will continue to do so until the gods allow him eternal rest.

Personality:
For all the death and destruction in his life Jorik is a complex character, he can be jolly and melancholy, gentle and  tough, serious and a trickster but most of all he is loyal to those he holds dear and his oath once given will never be broken.

Description:
Jorik is as wide as he is tall and as a Fyreslayer he stands 4'6" and built of solid muscle. He doesn't sport the traditional mowhawk hair style but rather has it long and in multiple braids laced with gold. His beard is full and again braided.

His armour looks heavy but he seems to move with the grace that is at odds with the heavy plate. Where there is no armour his bronzed flash glints with the Ur-gold runes embedded in it.
Across his back he carried a huge double headed battle axe and at his belt an equally looking wicked double headed hand axe.

Very cool stuff, I especially like the death mask he makes.  IS there possibilities for him to have met others of the binding in his past?  How much later after he died was the binding offered to him?

Anyone whos fought against the undead will have possibly cross his path.... It wasn't that long after his death as the gods needed to get him bound to bring him back so there was a time limit before his soul passed over

Jorik, that backstory is great! Very interesting. You could come up with something about how it would affect the binding ritual. I am cooking up something about Grimvine too.

Even if it didn't directly affect the binding ritual, I can tell you with some certainty that Sebhata was none too pleased about splitting her soul with a corpse. Probably still holds it against him to some degree now.

It's a two-fold thing:
  • She was dispatched to the Soulbound in exile, so the idea that Jorik's backers are pulling for him hard enough that they'll unmake his death to maintain his service is an immediate >:|
  • What if the ritual went wrong? What price were they supposed to bear for this guy's sake if the binding didn't bring him back?

Intriguing insights into the head of your character Sebhata! What do you think about the relationship between her and Grimvine. The Outcasts are semi-mad exiles, but Alarielle herself drew Grimvine back.

I feel it could either displease her or then not, as the bloody savagery the Outcasts display might trouble her less than most.

Well she's hardly going to be put off by a little blood, no. Or a lot of it even!

I can't imagine she'd regard Grimvine with anything but suspicion and distaste/contempt. Sebhata might be a killer and far from a immune to a touch of the ol' red thirst, but she's also something of an assassin by trade and a person whose blades are driven by faith and devotion as much as lust for blood and violence. She's hardly going to feel kinship with someone who dwells in madness, spite and destruction.

I think there's maybe interesting potential with the two of them for stuff working from the angle of like ... they're kinda both coming from the opposite ends of a spectrum in terms of their nature as killers. Will time spent in each others' company lead to an understanding and perhaps both drifting more towards the middle, or might we see one drag the other (willingly or not) to their way of thinking?

Good ideas Sebhata. I love games with intra-party conflict and troubles, because that creates magnificent roleplaying and I believe we have good players who can keep it in character.

That said, I am thinking of making Grimvine something of a self appointed guardian of Arthenadon, with heavy armour and mainly defensive tactics (aiming at Territorial, Stalwart guardian and maybe Counterattack later on). The Spite-Revenant does have a weapons with Rend though, so some aggressive attacks may be needed at some points ;D.

It seems ok?

I figure I'll have Kaltos show up when more have introduced themselves.  He's definitely not the leader of the Binding, but I figure he's been assigned to it.

I genuinely didn't realise you meant that so literally XD

Were we aware that you'd be joining us - not you specifically perhaps but a Stormcast - or is this a total surprise to the binding?

Re: OOC:

He was aware.  One of the things that intrigues him so much about this binding is he can see virtually no destiny or fate for it, which is not something he's used to.  So he has knowledge of the binding only in that who it consists of, but not necessarily what its purpose is (as yet).  Any information he finds out will be revealed through play and not any foretelling he does.

Re: OOC:

Any good ideas what this group should be called? Have never really thought about a group having their own name in AoS:Soulbound. On the other hand naming the group "Binding" in game also seems to be... lacking.

Re: OOC:

I've not got any specific ideas at this time, but given how central Jorik's resurrection was to it I'd assume that'd factor into any name somehow.

Actually just throwing a few vague thoughts out there off the cuff:
  • [Binding/Order/Circle/Fellowship] of the Flame Reborn/Enduring
  • [Binding/Order/Circle/Fellowship] of the Fire Defiant
  • [Binding/Order/Circle/Fellowship] of Hope Resurgent
  • [Binding/Order/Circle/Fellowship] of Life Triumphant
  • Binding of the [Place Name/Number] Conclave

I (in character,  mostly jokingly) find the first two discriminatory.  I do however like 3 and 4 quite a bit.

Well more that he was dying just as the forging was taking place and happened to be a strong enough soul to complete it. Oh and a certain god gets really, really grumpy about such things.

Re: OOC:

I also like the 3 and 4. I would like most a name that would name us as well, how would I put it.... Like it would give us a name "we are the Defiant" or "he is a Prophet/one of the Prophets".

Maybe I mean a name for the Binding that gives each of us a personal title as well. In the end I am totally cool with any name the majority prefers.

Should the #3 be picked, could we as characters have the title Resurgent, for example "you are not wanted here Resurgent" or "she is one of those Resurgents"?
