OOC:
I hope this doesn't make things worse, if it does I'll remove it and zap everyone with a memory eraser and move on. But maybe I can offer a suggestion.
If we know how many players are in the group (whether currently or projected) and party balance is a concern for the players as well (sometimes it's simply a desire to be unique), maybe we could discuss what we want the party to have as far as roles are concerned, as well as Archetypes. So if we have a party of 6 we can maybe say we should have no more than 2 casters, 1 priest, 2 melee and 1 ranged/mobile (this is just an example, not necessarily my suggestion). Then from there, the PCs volunteer for the role that they really want to take. We've all seemed pretty flexible, I just turned in a sheet, but it's my first time with this game system, I can change to something else and submit that.
This might eliminate some headaches about party composition (I hope it wouldn't make it worse) that can have everyone OK with it. It's a bit like the way that people in my real life gaming table often go about deciding their characters for a new game.
If this just opened a can of worms though, by all means erase it and move forward as we are, it will still be fun to play I'm sure.
