Re: The Pub Crawl:  OOC

I'll say that as Rain's player (or more former), it is VERY risky.

....hence she died, even with a kick-ass drake.

But do what Lucy would do

*Suppressing an evil grin*

I've got no problem retconning the post, but we need to work out what actually *did* happen.

Are you trying to sneak away?  It seems not, based on the open request for light, but if so, I'll call for a stealth roll.

Are you trying to convince the others to let you go on your own?  We can roleplay it out.  The light problem can be solved if you guys think about it, but first really, would be getting consensus on the plan.

Re: The Pub Crawl:  OOC

Lucy is a very aboveboard character.  In my next post, I'd planned to ... Heck.  Here's something of what I'd planned to post last night before deciding that going to better was more important.

"Thank you, Lynn.  This will do just fine."  The Inquisitive broke away most of the stick so that the small portion might be extinguished when put into her pocket.  "Now, if you will all please return to camp, I shall proceed to where I believe Rain encountered the wisps.  This should require little in the way of time.  And please do not attempt to follow.  I also believe that I am the only one uniquely qualified to flee in the case of difficulty, and I would like the freedom to do so."

"Please," she said.  "I will return shortly."

Re: The Pub Crawl:  OOC

Here's what I'll do.  I'll modify *my* post, and delete Tyrsoir's, and then post yours below for you.  We can then pick up from there.

Edit: Posted.  We're back at the gully, and Lucy is proposing to go off on her own.  Pick up from here.

Thanks.  As I said, I'm open to being convinced to do otherwise.  If someone wants to try and talk Lucy out of it, come in with a good argument, and I'll listen.

Re: The Pub Crawl:  OOC

if it is possible to use a Free Action outside of Initiative order, then I will have Lucy call out a warning that there is a fourth Wisp that has become invisible.

Re: The Pub Crawl:  OOC

You're free to do that, but I'll point out that there are four visible wisps on the field.

Also, to be perfectly clear -- your actions are taken on your turn, with the exception of Reactions, which are done in response to someone else's action. (even a held action is released by using a character's Reaction).  A free action would also be done on your turn.

If you wanted to use your Reaction to shout out a warning, that's certainly allowed.

Lucidity will not leave anyone behind.  Mechanics being what they are, however, I am left with the option of either escaping, and leaving everyone behind, or wasting a Ready to plan for the contingencies of fellow players.

So, before posting, I'm going to call for a consensus.  Are we all withdrawing?

Maglynn is the best placed among us to do real damage to the wisps with her eldritch blast, but she needs to survive first!

Dungeon Master:
Dungeon Master:
We could Hybridise It
  • I call for initiative, everyone rolls initiative.
  • I call out groups of people (init rolls from 21-25, init rolls from 16-20, etc.)
  • Each group of actions is resolved, and I call out the next group, etc.

I think I'd like to try running the next combat this way, just to see how it works out for us.

I'm looking ahead to things like lair actions and legendary actions -- which could absolutely change the battlefield.  I also think that breaking things up like this might mean I have less to focus on for the post, which means I can be a bit more flavourful with my narration (right now, it seems dry in combat rounds).

Any thoughts?

I'm interested in any feedback you might have on this most recent combat and how it was run mechanically...

Re: The Pub Crawl:  OOC

I have to say that it threw me at first.  Or, rather, maybe I wasn't expecting the initiative order in general.  But, I think things happened the way that they should have.  I wouldn't have wanted all of those wisps attacking Lynn.  Things might have turned out worse.

All in all, I think it's something to which I could easily adapt.  Especially if it made things easier on you, and smoother play-wise.

Took me a few to get used to but worked after.

Main potential issue I see is if you get a non-poster clogging up the combat round but I guess you can get that anyway!

It works if you have active players, that look often. Sometimes i can be a few days without even looking at rpol, I'll try to avoid doing that in combat.

Re: The Pub Crawl:  OOC

It required more frequent updates from me, so that's a trade-off, but those updates were smaller and easier to manage.  It also made it a little more difficult to keep track of where we were in the combat round, since it tended to bleed over from one round to the next -- I kept having to refer back to the >> markers I put in the combat table.

I still think it will pay off when we get to things like legendary actions and lair actions.  And most importantly, it makes it easier to adjust when you all start using reactions -- it makes it easier to pinpoint when you want to use it, and it means I don't have to roll the post back as far to "undo" what was done.

We'll keep playing with it, and if it needs tweaking, we'll do so.  :)

That's an excellent point.  I'll continue to tag people on discord for each of the combat rounds when their turn comes up.

Frilia Silverstring:
"I saw wisps as we came back, they followed us. They know we are here, which means we can't rest here. Pack up, we must move somewhere else.

Is this true?

Dungeon Master:
The journey back to the campsite was uneventful, if harrowing on nerves which expected whispers in the dark, and the flashing, sizzling touch of wisps appearing out of nowhere.

I interpreted the description to mean that we expected the Wisps to follow but they did not.

Frilia, on what are you basing your claim that the wisps followed us?  Are you interpreting from the DM's post?  Or did you get info from a roll result?

BTW, the animal pulling Lucy's cart is a mule.  Not a pony.  I'm good with either, but there do seem to be small differences.
