OOC 2

I am going to start keeping things on the slower side in main threads (not painfully slow, juet a turn order, so everyone can post and keep up) once I get back fully. In regards to events at least.
Clearing my schedule took more time then I expected.
Sorry, and thanks for the patience!

Re: OOC 2

Personally, I'm all for a more moderate pace.

But, I do not want curb anybody's enthusiasm, or fun.    I'll catch up, when I need to, it's not a biggie.    For me it really has more to do with post quality;  often, I like to be able to think about what I'm going to write, rather than feeling compelled to slam something out.    That is me, I realize others may not feel that way, or may have more available time.

I'm sure Morph, Evelyn etc. are right; things should balance out, after a bit.

Re: OOC 2

I just want to be really clear (in a helpful and non-judgemental way, since tone is tough in text) but I have absolutely zero interest in RPing in an IC thread that exists in a pocket outside of canon. If others want to, obviously bless <3 But for me that feels like I'm going to have a bunch of conversations that my character didn't have, and that's kind of like living the best days of your life but they didn't happen?

Would you rather marry the love of your life or remember a dream you had of meeting them? You know? To repeat those scenes in proper IC would feel weird later too. Maya's only going to sob and share the time her mom almost killed her with a broom once in a meaningful way. Essentially I'm here to explore Maya's personal journey as she grows as a character through ups and downs and lessons and life moments. There's just no draw for me to play her in a space that is out of sync with the timeline. It's maybe even disorienting for me lol.

That said, if there's a set turn order, I think that's lovely. But at the same time, in a scene of 12 players, that will probably grind things to a crawl? Which obviously we need a middle ground (no perfect solutions) but I do worry that we'll just all be bottlenecking around a given player a day (and no judgement, rl first always <3). Or worse is someone or someones have to go afk for a day or two without notice.

So I guess maybe the real question I would propose is (and again, my rejection sensitivity dysphoria makes me hedge here that I mean no harm and only want to be constructive), how necessary is RPing this orientation / is it something we could be split into smaller groups for? And maybe just wiggle the timeline a little so Omni or whomever can be in all three threads?

In essence, how important to the story / scene is it that all 12 of us be stacked into one thread all at the same time vs. breaking out into smaller threads where we're not waiting on each and every one of us to post before the next person posts?

...I might have had too much coffee this morning ^_^ and all of this is meant with an analytical love of the game and a desire to make it work as best as seems possible for all members, swift and slower paced.

Re: OOC 2

It's really easy to split people into groups. Say three to six in a thread as the norm.

These things tend to sort themselves out within a couple of weeks. We'll form separate threads, so separate ways, do separate things. Sure we'll have to have 'two/three lessons at the same time' or 'two/three social events at the same time' but that's usually quite easy.

In reply to Maya Gordon (msg # 7):

I think I pretty much agree with all of this :)

I don't mind being skipped over so long as it's not plot-related or assuming things about my character. I was in one game where after I went to bed, two other PCs asked mine to go on an adventure, then almost immediately decided that me not answering OOC meant I wasn't interested IC and did it themselves. Not fun!

Re: OOC 2

I actually agree with both of you.  It really is annoying to ask a question and then one hour later that character walked away.  But that will fix itself, once we start doing things.  I actually wrote Juli with the memory of this current situation being like a middle school assembly waiting for a teacher to show up. :)

I will try very hard to do my part to not overload the system with Juli's drama.  But where I do agree is that I think spitting off the group without us truly being split up would probably be a mistake.  We do have two 'groups' that are splitting off physically, and that's fine (either going outside or leaving the Gym).  But I would hate for anyone to get left behind.

And Shade, I've had that happen too.  Unfun!

Re: OOC 2

Oh I'm not referring to making an IC thread outside Canon anymore. That was going to be the original purpose, however, I've since altered that, and am simply aiming for them to be fast paced threads that are between specific characters so others don't get lost in the posting. Since they are conversations between characters they wouldn't be 100% necessary for all to know and read, but also are fully there for everyone to read if they so choose, without worrying about getting lost in the main threads.

Because I also don't want to temper people's posting speeds or enthusiasm too much, but also am trying to keep in mind other players. I'm actually really glad to see so many people actively posting.

In addition, I do also really like Rhods idea of pming questions to characters who may be away for a period of time, or may miss them. I would like to extend that to myself, as while I can read, if there are a large chunk of messages, I may miss stuff, or I have time to post but not get back to everyone. So being able to see all the pinged the questions will be really helpful!

Does this sound acceptable?

Right?? Always the way lol.

Sure, I like that. That sounds helpful. That's a good use of the IC threads. Sort of more like pockets of time between characters than locations that are open and flowing to everyone. For those little one on one moments or those "that hangout the guys had in the gym 2 weeks ago during the time skip" moments.

And yea. I usually do that anyway :) I PM'd Tweight as an example when I ratted on up to him so he didn't miss it in my post.

Those all sound helpful.

Also as previously mentioned, the two IC threads are bubbles of time.

They are places where players who have longer, faster paced conversations can converse without worry about the overall flow of the game, until said conversation has reached it's conclution.

If need be, I can introduce more.

For the GM or any older players:   the description says that a thick forest surrounds the school.   Does it contain normal wildlife, or anything more exotic?    (if this is perhaps open to discovery, that'd be cool)

Does the pocket dimension have known boundaries?  How far do they extend, if so?  And what happens if you reach them?   (or are these questions we should just not ask)

In regards to figuring out wildlife, that is discovery. I haven't had full time to address everyone who has explored yet. I am going to start implimenting stuff like that, if there is a smatter of posting just let me know if you've explored certain areas that I may have missed and I will inform you what you discover!

Although there will be a warning regarding the edge of the dimensional space. Or rather, cause it's been a bit, there has already been a warning about going to far and close to the border of the dimensional space, cause you will be sort of... spat out wherever the bubble happens to be at the time. So if you desire to leave the school it is best to ask a staff member for safety.

Also, I'm for sure going to do an excursion into the woods, at some point, for anyone who wants a more adventure-y sort of thing.

I'd also suggest to Juli's player, that the lake might pose a similar adventure.   Especially if she can confer water breathing on someone else.  (and really, if you didn't, I'd beg the GM to fit in one more power)  There could be underwater caves, sunken stuff, etc.  etc.

I have to admit I'm struggling with it myself. I just post roughly  1/day at the moment and it's not really possible to engage with most other players as engaging in conversation would lock down their conversations to the speed of the slowest (me).

I don't want to slow down the posts of the people who are having fun, but I'm not really sure what to post at the moment for example. I'll probably just do a 'filler' of 'listens to what is going on'. I'd like to strike up a conversation with some of the people I've not really spoken to but it feels very hard to inject into the conversation. And imposing as I would slow them down.

Hopefully we will split up soon into groups where we can be with people of similar posting speeds.

When joining a new game, I do my best to fit with the majority, and/or the group I'm working with.   The bigger the cast, the trickier that may get.

Slowing down is rarely a problem.  It's only annoying if you see the person logging in every day, holding up a whole group because they've got 'writer's block' or such.   Lol, it's only a game, nobody's writing a novel on rpol.

If someone says 'I'll be gone two or three days,' then I can wait two or three days.  No issue with that.  RL always takes precedence.

Re: OOC 2

I am more than happy to come together and figure out some sort of posting rules or limit or order or plan. I don't think anyone's a villain for posting more or less but obviously if we've got different ranges then we need to address that in some sort of acceptable middle-ground.

I work a desk job and often enough from home. Gives me room to tag between calls/meetings. But if others are feeling more constrained by the boundaries of rl I don't think they should be left out. I think we should aim to accommodate some sort of reasonable ground. At least in scenes where there are multiple people.

There are 11 of us. That's a lot of people in a social setting and it's a lot of people to RP over.

The obvious and budding medical emergency seems like a great opportunity to divvy us up while the teachers take charge of the situation. Be that with or without our help. But I also don't know what Omni/GM's posting capacity seems to be.

In other questions though -- Evelyn is now shrivelled and dehydrated and essentially taking on Tweight's starved, emaciated, wounded aspect? Does that mean Tweight is now looking healthy and well-fed and startlingly spry compared to earlier? It's not clear from the description and I want to act appropriately.

I'm going to hang tight and not post, let other people move in on the action first though. I know Maya's just been bouncing around everywhere (which admittedly is her power '_';).

Reading carefully, I suspect, with the short notice, that Juli would hold on, not truly knowing what was going to happen.  Which is probably good, as she would have planned to go, but actually has no idea where the Medical area is.

When that scene started, Morph's player PMed me & Maya about something.   Which led to a chat between us.

Maya voiced a preference to keep it around four characters, so it didn't turn into a crowd like the gym.     I get that, and agree with her thoughts on it.

It's not a matter of being welcome (anyone is) but of not turning it into a mob.

Note that I'm not at the lake (not on the ground talking to people, anyway), so you don't need to figure me in the total.

Oh it definitely is. I'm sure Omni as a character is not about leaving  malnourished PDST-ridden untrained telepaths with agoraphobia and inferiority complexes to wander helplessly around unfed, ill-adjusted and afraid. That seems like the sort of thing that is a liability to said telepaths health (physical and mental) and the students.

None of which is a criticism ^_^ These are the things we just massage a little to make games go. GM's probably super busy managing 11 players plus applicants plus rl plus other games plus everything else.

But I do admit the extent of Tweight's trauma / his condition does make it tricky> with suspension of disbelief. I don't mind. But it is a bit of a stretch. Just is what it is. I'm trying to rose-tinted glasses it for cohesion, personally.

Oh honey bun, that's not what I was suggesting. At all <3

I was just waxing philosophical about the natural disconnect in free form games like these. The inherent need to sort of smooth certain assumptions for group cohesion and play :) It was in no way a criticism. We'll find Tweight a home with the  group.

Please please please, you're very welcome here. Don't mind me. I was just speaking in the abstract and without prejudice. I like to chew on the why and the how of things. That doesn't mean they're problems. I just... can't help but observe upon the nature of the things I'm observing, I guess.

Its for the best.  It was heavy, and we don't need heavy.  And I want to back off a bit, because I am here too much, and Juli's not that important, but for being a mermaid. :)  But the summary was to tell Tweight that the he is great, and so is his player, for playing someone who is like a lot of us, out of place and feeling out of place.  Every character here is created that way, just some need more growth than others.  Even Juli was told that another person's bucket list wish was to swim with a mermaid, and Juli said 'so is mine.'  Aren't we all that way in the real world?  Out of place and ourselves and just hoping we fit in and nobody sees us as out of place?  Lots of love here.  I don't want to ruin it.

Julianna Wilson:
"Oh, so beautiful!" she almost screamed, clapping her hands.  Then, she stood, pulled her t-shirt over her head, then pulled down her shorts.  Totally nude.  "I hate getting my clothes wet, but I couldn't do this on the beach!"

Totally unabashed with her nakedness, she stepped into the water until she was almost waist deep, then took a flying dive into the water.  She dove under, then came up with her tail.  She did another dive to deeper water, then leaped from the water like a dolphin, turning the air to land again.

"Oh!  It feels so good!" she cried, now making circles around Morph.

Julianna Wilson:
And while Evelyn's nudity momentarily embarrassed her, why worry?  She could be naked in this form, probably, but why worry?

First and foremost, thank you everyone for your patience. It's really amazing to see the posting rate as high as it is, do id like to thank you all for that too. Sorry I've been absent lately.
Secondly, it's really cool the threads and IC events you've generated in my absence. I'm planning to be more present now, but by all means don't let my presence disturb that!

Okay.  I as a player seem to be doing a good job driving people away from the fun, whether it is interfering with character concept, posting too much or maybe being too introspective.  I am not sure what to do, but I think I need to rethink a lot of what I am doing here. I apologize to all of you.

You don't need to.   We had a slight clash, not the end of the world.

I felt like I was being held to a different standard than you've been playing your own character with.  I found that annoying.   I'm always willing to cut things back, if they get over the top. The suggestion box is always open.

But that means other people will do the same.  Level playing field, and so forth.

To be honest, I was just trying to be reactive, and I did it very poorly. Even now, what I think was trying to do was just poorly thought out.  Clearly, I need to rethink both my writing and characterization.  I don't know what the standard was, and honestly I was stepping out of character myself.  Phooey.

Don't sweat it too much! We are in this game to have fun. We all get swept up into our characters and they become very real. But we also all mess up sometimes. Don't let that eat you. Just treat it as a learning event and move on.

Just FWI I enjoyed reading your posts. I was a little confused by what was happening around me (posting rate again) so decided it was subtle and I hadn't noticed. I think I need to work that into the last post actually (bit like you... I obsess sometimes)

Re: OOC 2

What I was trying to convey, and I did it really really poorly, was that Juli was surprised at the pretty light and Evelyn's reaction to it (which reminded her/me of how Tweight reacted to Juli crying as him having hurt her - so what did that light do that was bad for Evelyn) and also to have a sudden introspective of how ordinary Juli looks without her tail but others (like Evelyn and healing, and Estelle with her beautiful wings) seem so much more obvious.  Juli really doesn't know that Estelle would love to hide her wings, and she doesn't know what Evelyn's father did to exploit the healing.

See, it just took me a whole paragraph and even then, I just want to delete what I posted.  It was too introspective, it was poorly written and out of character.  I don't want anyone leaving for what I started.

Re: OOC 2

I appreciate you taking the time to write that, I do understand what you're saying.

There's no lingering issue at player or character level with anyone.  Nobody's perfect, me especially. It's life.   I'd probably give a bit more thought to who/how I do future interactions, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

If it's the only way the game can keep Evelyn, though, then I'd prefer to leave!

In another game, I play a psychologist/lead councilor aboard a starship.  Very different character from Estelle.   In that game, I do a lot  of posts about dealing with Complex PTSD and similar issues.

I admit, coming here, I was looking forward to something more superhero-y and lighthearted.   But that's me.      It's not my game!   Nobody's 'wrong' for how they choose to play their character.     But as with powers, it may be a good idea to sometimes consider how personality and issues might be affecting those around you.

In any event I'm really sorry to see people leave. I thought we had some interesting characters and interesting RP was going on. I was really enjoying reading it even if it was a little fast for me to really keep up.

I hope no one else is going, and I would really like Evelyn to reconsider! Of course I don't know what was going on in the private lines, so I'm just saying that as an outsider

Ditto.    My offer stands.    I'd like to move on from this now, whether it's via my departure or rethinking how to better deal with things in the future.

I will say:   In a supers game, everyone get their moments to shine, to do something unusual or cool.   If it's a problem, then you're playing in the wrong genre.

I'm okay with people not liking my character.  I'm okay with someone becoming a rival or antagonist, within limits.  I'm even okay with being verbally insulted.  Just be prepared to dance.

But snarky comments delivered in thought balloons?  with no accountability for the player?     I'm going on record as requesting please don't do it.

I'd really love for you to stay. I think that spirit seems universal.

In regards to the rest. I think, to echo some sentiments already said, I think maybe we could just have a do over? Anyone who's feeling any sort of anything to people(s) should maybe hash that out in PMs? But I can only speak for myself. If I'm among any kind of offending party, I'm happy to have a conversation <3

I'm not personally ruffled by anything that's gone on other than being sorry to see frictions. It does look like some of it is being discussed/resolved already which is nice.

In closing, Evelyn, would hate to see you go. I think yours is a rich and interesting character with a lot to offer to the RP.

Thank you for thinking of me :) I'll probably just loop back in later, I'm fine with observing for now. Things are much more... I don't know, dramatic than I was expecting. Not in an objectively bad or insulting way, but I feel like I would get in the way of people wanting to have these emotional scenes. Like presumably Shade would help Morph try to keep Evelyn in bed and not reinjuring in the nurse's office (or figure out why there's no nursing staff to do it except that's an OOC issue), but she wants to have a dramatic scene there, so I'd just be a wet blanket.

Ah joking aside let's remember the GM is a person who can't be expected to predict all this stuff up front. The moment the RP started it was obvious but the GM (as advertised) only posts a couple of times a week and the drama took place before they had a chance to even know it was happening.

Even if Elswin is a caring, fluffy dude of goodness... or an evil git... (Lucy is currently favouring 'caring, fluffy but without working out consequences') then the GM didn't have a chance to project that.

So the GM is happy with 'eek OMG I screwed up' posts then it's cool. If not let's remember it's a game and thus we have to blur our eyes sometimes and not see stuff.

I personally imagine it flows through the woods into another lake down another  river into a waterfall into another river into a makeshift ocean that goes out a couple miles then channels into a river leading back to the lake they're currently in like a moebius strip of water. And all trash and toxins and such get flushed out to the Hudson bay through portals in the bottom while clean water comes in through a portal in the Bermuda triangle. And also the water going into the ocean passes through a salt wall. And the water coming out passes through a desalination barrier. It's super convoluted but that does seem appropriate lol

The kind of damage someone like an out of control Cyclops would do would be beyond the work of a janitor, is what I'm getting at.  Unless that title here includes the skills to make structural repairs to building, etc.   The sort of thing that usually takes a team of construction people.

Though it does bring up the question of how damage resistant the campus is?    Are these like normal facilities, or reinforced in some way?

Oh also I didn't fully address this before, but I'm not perfect, and I miss thing sometimes.

But I also think that makes things fun.
I may have a character respond incorrectly or in a way that doesn't properly convey their thoughts. And that's okay, the characters themselves are also not perfect.
So "Eek I screwed up" posts, as well as thr responses to the miscommunication messages are fun.
For me, at least, it adds a layer of... I dunno... realism almost. Unpredictability.

As for 'damaging powers' read my description :). If Lucy changed into glass girl every pane of glass in a 100' would shatter and shards would fly to her. (Happened once in her backstory... no body died). Which is exciting and dangerous and unpleasant. The only control Lucy has at the moment is 'don't do that'. I'm using that as an example like the ones above. Oh...and there are circumstances outside her control where that might happen...

That's something that can change with time of course. I suspect Tweight can't control his powers either.

I'm just using that as a 'supporting the theme of the argument' being given.

Actually... gosh that's a good idea.

And it would probably work even better with events like Fukashima because a big issue there was the strontium released to the sea water...

*ponders in a joking way* could we use this to extract gold from sea water?

I didn't have any 'plans' for it when I created her. I just thought it was a fun side effect. Mostly I was aiming for large amounts of property damage! (sorry Jacques). I was walking through a car park today and wondered how much that would cost if all the glass broke and probably made a mess of the paint work and upholstery....

Maya's powers are all sorts of useful for all sorts of theoretical applications. But she's just such a lazy bones that it never occurs to her to think big. She makes a fantastic infiltrator. She makes a fantastic heist crew. She could turn into so many rats and just... chew things up if she wanted to be destructive.

But instead she's just lays about and eats spicy chip ^_^

I just wanted to say I am liking the IC drama at the moment, and won't be 'escalating it further' or anything. IC Lucy is feeling that somehow she's got caught up in a madhouse. That's entirely in genre though. I mean have you read Harry Potter? And wondered... in what planet do they send 11 year olds out to face werewolves and giant spiders etc.

Looking forwards to seeing what happens at the school now!

This is of course just a personal view given because you asked.

I like a sandbox but I also like there to be toys in the sandbox to play with.

So for example I like 'story arcs' or 'big plot'. We don't have to be 'on railtracks' but they give us things to talk about, things to investigate, and I think work real well. It's best in a game like this if they are 'ignorable': i.e you don't need to 'do it now'.

Other good toys in the sand box are 'lessons' and 'school trips' and 'visitors'. Again (like in HP) it's nice if some of these are linked to a 'story arc' or a 'big plot'.

Is the Big plot the threat of SASPAR attacking the school?  If its something else I haven't noticed :)  The sandbox nature is still fresh for us newer players.  We've yet to meet the whole faculty or engage in a lot of class staff yet.  Lots to do!

The IC threads have been great for the game however, just wanted to mention that :)

Well SASPAR are being set up as the big bads. Perhaps we have an issue with them:
  • They 'kidnap' someone that was on the way to the school. What do we do about it? We might choose to investigate/mount a rescue/say 'hey it's the police it's not our job to interfere'. But it would certainly give us a lot of topics to think about/investigate
  • There are press articles about them. 'Victories'. And perhaps one of us knew more about that incident
  • Some one arrives at the school on the run from them.

Re: OOC 2

So currently I have an idea, curious on thoughts.

I'm thinking of having three types of threads, especially as I'm more active right now (famous last words).

IC threads. In character threads that are bubbles where players can freely interact in a continuous scenario until its conclusion, separate from the main timeline. Eg assembly, etc. It's outside of the timeline, but in Canon. These can be as fast or as slow as yall like. These are less monitored by me, but I will still try to spice them up.

School threads. Student day to day activities. Dorms, classes, assemblies, etc. Most of the named threads fall under this category. These threads do their best to include everyone and fall within a day to day sort of school schedule. There are a bunch of things to be discovered in these areas if you choose to go looking. I'll be doing my best to keep an active on them.

Plot threads. These threads can be used to expand special events. I'm thinking things like trips outside of schools, basically things that fall outside of school life thar can advance plot, without locking you all into whatever is happening. Stuff regarding SASPAR or specific student events (also you can pm me if you'd like a particular side plot line added. I already have ideas for several students to face from the info I have, but if you have a specific one for your character, I'm all ears.)

I am half asleep as I write this  so it may not be fully accurate of what I gave in mind. But it's the gist.
Thoughts?

Re: OOC 2

One: Easily the most co-hesive post I've seen written while tired props to you elswin!

Two: Sounds great! Its a good way to make sure everybody has a thread they want available to them!

Three: When it comes to plot threads would there be a way to differentiate from SASPAR and established character development threads? It seems that some people are wary of doing the SASPAR threads and I would hate for them to miss out on the character development. I also understand if not if you'd rather people not know what there going into for the plot threads so their decisions don't change accordingly.

That's all, lovely idea though!

Re: OOC 2

No objections :)

IC threads are going great.  I'm not sure they need spicing up with events, as that could risk the point of the thread.  eg Roger and Mary go for a heart to heart chat... and then ninjas attack, interrupting the chat.  Small events that invite interaction are probably fine though.

School threads seem ok, but with each student having optional class schedules, it might be a bit tricky to run.  You'll be reacting to a lot of different classes all at once and the pacing might get a bit jumbled.  Could you shift the school mysteries into plot threads instead?  Maybe then you could have a general 'Day One' school thread and the players can narrate what their characters do.  You can advance the School Day every 1 IRL week... with IC and Plot threads being timeless (until finished).

I think most ppl would want to participate in plot threads, so thumbs up!

Re: OOC 2

Overall sounds good.    In addition:

I believe in working with the GM of a game, as much possible.  It is usually a lot of work to run a game, which is exactly why I tend not to run them.

I've been trying to get a better sense of where this GM's comfort zone is.  specifically:

- If you (GM) want to run all the adventurey/event things yourself, I'm good with that, and won't try to initiate anything.

- If you do want help from the players, so it's not all on you, that works for me as well.     I'd just like to know which it is.

I enjoy chat & debate. But not as much when I'm in multiple threads, and that's what they're all centered on.    I am hoping for some diversity of activity, as the game moves along, however that can best be achieved.

Re: OOC 2

To begin with, yes there will be a way to distinguish between different plot threads. Specifically between SASPAR and character threads. More generic threads are going to be... well generic. But what I'm thinking of is titling them kind of like books or chapters. So something like "SASPARs reach" would clearly be a saspar thread, but something like "Morphs Father" would be a plot line about Morph.

I will most likely be hiding what the plots of each thread entails in terms of too much detail, so people can have fun with discovery and what not, but I will give the bare bones information so you can decide if you want to participate, or if you just wanna read. Cause I know that some people joined this game with the distinct hope for a more school based game, and not everyone wants to go around fighting SASPAR or dealing with other peoples problems.

Oh in the IC threads, it's less "Being attacked by ninja's" and more "Oh there's something weird in this area we're in. That's something to talk about" Like if the Iris group who's currently exploring find a radio tower or something. That's the sort of event I'm refering to. Something that's completely optional, and only has an impact if they so chose it to.

I will consider moving school mysteries and what not into the plot thread, the only problem with that is that the school thread, while as you said may get jumbled, allows for that sort of free interaction, where having a plot thread that's like "The Radio Tower" sort of... removes that mystery and discoverability. Though alternatively, because you all have freedom within the threads, I might just sprinkle them wherever they are needed, provided I catch an area. So just cause you explored an area before, doesn't mean that you saw everything that area has to offer.

In regards to players initiating things.

It's difficult to say. Cause there are some instances where it works out, EG Tweight was a great initiation from my perspective cause it led the group down a whole thing, and has lead to intereactions between students, and also given other characters chances to interact. But generally when it comes to instigation, I would prefer it if the idea was at least run by me, so it doens't run counter, or directly contradict something that is coming later.

Re: OOC 2

Sorry I've been silent in my friends all. Just been busy with some rl stuff. Nothing crazy.

I don't like the idea of random twists in the IC threads, personally. I think those are mostly curated snips of time. Essentially they're the stuff that happens off-camera, in my mind. They fill in the space of establishing lines like "After a leisurely weekend, classes resumed Monday" or "Estelle and Maya had grown apart in the weeks that followed the assembly, unable to reconcile their disagreement on whether snorkels or goggles were a swimmer's greatest tool."

I think a new category of thread would be fine though if you wanted to run something that was both a) a side-vignette sort of scene/situation but also b) implicitly going to have dm interference/interaction. Whether that's a trip to the mall in the real world of a training simulation or a talent show or whatever it might be.

I do think a few teacher PCs would maybe be a good plan. That would lighten your load a fair bit. Just my thought. I think running a whole Hogwarts with only 1 or 2 players running the teachers might be tough.

I also think that, in my opinion, most of the classes can probably just be implied rather than experienced. I don't know that there's a lot of juice in sitting in Calculus together and actually going through the lesson unless that class is going to get disrupted by a brawl between the kid who turns into a two-headed bear and the girl who can shoot lasers from her eyes and then we're sort of stuck getting in the middle of it?  Our schedules can be amorphous enough to allow enough of us to be in this class or that class at a given time. You can always run individual specialty classes on request.

Just my thoughts, in no particular order. You're doing great. Keep up the good work!

Re: OOC 2

Maya’s good suggestions:
PC teachers, implied school threads, etc!

Given the GM insisted that IC events be small, optional, and mostly generate future talking topics, I’m ok with that now.

I think Maya’s vignette suggestion could be handled with plot threads, but sometimes you just want to go shopping and not deal with ninjas, so a different catergory could be feasible.

PC teachers would be great, even just substitute ones.  There’s always the danger of vanishing or narrative control issues.  Would there be use in 1-2 NPC teachers created specifically for any player to puppet?  Mostly a thought bubble.

Implied school threads would be similar to my downtime school thread suggestion.  I agree in trying to distill a school day down to the more interesting/challenging parts.

I agree with Maya's idea, that we hit high points.  Or if something is going to be a point of contention, then it gets played out somewhere, just as important events might?

No matter what, despite Lille's drama, I am enjoying what we are doing.  I rather hope we would be annoyed at each other in character than in RL.  There's enough strife in the world as it is.  My life has been massively sucky the last few weeks and I look forward to playing in the fake world for a change!

Re: OOC 2

Okay! I'm taking all feedback into consideration. Do a few structural changes may be coming in the near future.

Also based on feedback, what I may do is set the school system up to be more like persona. Where it's implied your attending, there are certain school events such as that first class and this assembly, but it's more what you do around school and who you hang out with.
And if people desire them there can be special classes that occur, but also separate so no one's locked in.

Basically, I kinda want to set it up as a web of continuity, where just cause you choose to do one thing, doesn't mean your locked into said thing and can't participate elsewhere. And the continuity is decided as events conclude.

Cause I've played in other school based games before, and... it feels like they die due to lack of posting freedom, and people lose interest in "whats happening right now"

I think I know how to manage IC threads now.
Each IC thread will start off as an IC thread. Then either as it goes on, or once it's finished it'll be retitled to match its content. And once it's fully finished it'll be closed for those who want to read or review it later.

So there will be a steady flow of IC threads being made.

I have a bunch of stuff to do for the game tonight, so while I am not planning any progress posts, here are a list of things t expect.

First I am going to turn the Assembly into a separate instance, so that we can move passed it, it's already gone way longer then I expected it too, and it frees people to do other things.

Second, gonna retitle all the IC threads to match what's happening in them and create a few new ones.

Third, gonna introduce a few objects and potential leads for people to interact with.

Fourth gonna start the first plot thread, most likely a furlough period of time, where yall can go out into the real world for a little while on some kind of fieldtrip or excursion.

I believe that ends these patch notes.

I am advancing time so that people can do some new stuff, however, for Tweight, Iris, and Jacques, you can continue what you are doing. Also the assembly thread is still on going, just taking my time. And I will continue to post in the medical thread as soon as I have a moment.

Also I have put out a call for teachers. So hopefully the roster will have a little more balance soon.

Plot threads are pretty easy to understand based on the name, and I think I read in the OoC somewhere that IC threads were for chronologically ambiguous interactions?

I got the impression that people could just kinda bebop around wherever (within reason) and that being active in certain threads didn't necessarily prevent the character from participating in others?

....... I'm probably going to second guess myself until there's an official statement somewhere obvious

Re: OOC 2

So yeah there are three types of threads.

Plot is right. Just for plot without locking people into a story and forcing them to participate.
IC is right. Chronologically ambiguous so people can interact freely.

And then the general threads are more just... day to day interaction, hanging out, potentially a class here or there, some school events, romance, etc. Also there can be some stuff that is discovered in them if you're so inclined. Though said discoveries may not last forever.

And yes, you can post in the IC threads and Plot threads freely, without worry, and time will pass in the more general threads.

and yeah that's really short, I'll toss it into an RTJ thread when I wake up or something. Make it easy.

Chaos and angst indeed. Quite enjoying what I've read so far.

I'm trying to catch up on the most relevant threads but that seems a long and storied process.

Any advice as to where I should start reading to get up to speed quickest? I was thinking I might introduce myself IC in the current Plot thread though I'm not sure if I should do that before everyone heads out on the trip or if it might be a good opportunity to pick me up along the way as someone who was off grounds and will be coming to the school to take up duties again after we return.

Not a lot of 'critical' stuff has happened. This is more slice of life

So we had a welcome ceremony and a lot of 'social interaction threads'.

The welcome ceremony was ... interesting... and I would read that

Summary of welcome ceremony:
  • The philiosophy of the school was explained by Faze
  • Julianna ran away in tears
  • Tweight ran away for different reasons
  • Lots of people ran away after the people that ran away
  • Other people ran away from philosophical disagreements or agreements

The main 'plot' thing at the moment is the school trip. I would suggest you read that and join us there.

I think understanding the setting is the main thing.  Once you do, you can pretty much join any thread, with a little review.   Better to ask specific questions in ooc or PM, than try and read all the old threads.    Unless you've really got spare time.

You might want to hit Jacques up in PM, (if he's not in a bad mood ;)), he's the other faculty member right now, and could possibly tell you the basics of what a teacher here should know.

If you think its ok to have people chop your limbs off in class, then you could say so. I get most people feel this is reasonable behaviour. For some strange reason Lucy is quite hung up about the fact the school is preaching 'don't obey the law' and 'it's OK to chop your fellow students'

Estelle's take is a bit different.   She's discomfited that the administration doesn't have enough confidence in their own experience and judgement to just say, "Look, this is how it is, we know what we're doing here."   Whether that's in reality too much to expect or no, she feels it should be that way.

And, she's too agitated/unnerved to listen to more of it.  Patience isn't her strong suit, anyway.

I do look forward to taking part in the outcome, however it happens to shake out.   Estelle is inherently a protector, whether she plans to be or no.

Re: OOC 2

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that because the time on most threads is currently ambiguous (eg assembly, plot, IC), you could rejoin the assembly provided you feel your character would, though based on the fact that I think 3 people are left, dunno how long that's going to last.

We are approaching the... river? lake? in the expedition thread, so you could also be there.

Or you could start one of the IC threads, I think there are two that are unoccupied right now.

Unfortunately I don't really know enough about Juli as a character to make suggestions for which threads might be fun. But those are a few ideas.

I've briefly hit the sweet spot in solo games a couple of times, that might be the only way it's possible ;) Sadly RPOL being what it is solo games tend to die instantly when the players disappear.

Right now real life has been a thrash, but I hope to get caught up in the threads I'm in soon. Fortunately Shade blends in anyways, so I think the only thread that actually has someone waiting on her is the expedition thread with May, so that'll be my first priority :)

I think the situation there is that Jacques is happy to get all the help he can.    So, it'll probably stay open.

Too much spare time is definitely not my own problem.   I'll usually take slower over too fast.  But, I accept that these games will default to the majority, which is as it should be.

Re: OOC 2

That reminds me.
If anyone has any particular personal plot you'd like to have addressed in Plot threads, could you please PM me?
Even if it's just something small like "I stole from this guy and it turned out he worked for SASPAR" to something as big as "I'm actually wanted in my home town cause I accidentally killed someone".

Cause when developing story points, I like to integrate as much of the player base into it as possible. And then it can have build up and pay off in both side and main stuff, and since we're going to a city soon, I figured it's a good starting point for "outside taste". But since it's the beginning, there is also no rush. This first field trip is the first of many plot points, so if you decide you'd like a bit of a plot yourself, I'll add it when applicable. In addition. If you have a very specific way you'd like your story points dropped, I'm all ears. But considering there is an over arching story, you may need to make some compromises.
Cause I'm sure some people don't want <orange"ATTENTION CITIZENS THIS CHARACTER IS WANTED FOR MURDER. IF YOU SEE THEM"</orange> blah blah blah. So I will do my best.
Also if you want to try something crazy for your plot like... I dunno... I kinda think SASPAR maybe right and I'd like to look into potentially joining them. I am open to stuff like that. I can't say ys to everything, as much as it pains me. But the worst case is that I'll see how we can make it work, and if it can't it can't. But if we can. Awesome.

That does of course only apply to those who are interested in joining plot threads. If you don't care one way or the other, I hope you enjoy the other aspects of the game just as much.

Oh also new monitor.
So posting should work once everything's in order.

I think that covers everything. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Unlike Faze I welcome them.

Orange is definitely the default color for in-game OOC/meta stuff.

Maybe just because it's bright and hard to miss?  Also, if one color needs to be off limits for character speech, it's probably a good choice.   It's not a common favorite color, nor one that most people would think of as reflecting their character's personality.   (well, not for me, certainly.  To each their own..)

I say threads for different locations, and then we'll probably group. Within that, we might pair off, and that will help keep things moving at the pace they choose.

Oh sorry forgot this last thing.

People are already kind of in pairs, but Faze may have other ideas.

Basically what I'm saying, is there any pairings that people would like to have specifically?

I can see some have already properly paired up such as Tiffany and Iris. But wanted to make sure that the groups that are groups are satisfied with their groups.

Second.

These IC groups are not limited to the groups I have assigned, you can pair up and do stuff together if you want. I can always make more. Wasn't sure if that was clear based on the names of the threads.

I like very much when my character 'becomes real' and has 'a life of her own'. That gives immersion in a way that I don't get with a book or a movie. It's why I like playing on RPOL. That 'becoming real' usually happens after an emotionally intense bit of writing.

Being serious about your 'how' question.

Mostly by just having a 'clock'. Trying to go 'tick tock'. Sometimes I am excited about the game and I don't need to worry about the clock. Sometimes not... and then I try for the 'tick tock' and update every N days. That action often makes the game exciting again. When the game is exciting it's easy! When not the clock helps.

From my experience running a DnD campaign for a small group, players tend to be excited (or at least satisfied) even by little things or small progress, so not every update/session/chapter has to be the best written, most thought through thing in the world

Also, please do not die. If posting an update kills you, there will be no further updates because you are dead, and then we're back to square one :P

Yes, that one really depends on where you're located/your water source.   Clean, safe water is def not a given in some places or situations.

On another note:  You so know this is fiction when we're walking into stores and easily finding what we want in the exact right size!   But protracted fitting scenes, tailoring, might be dull, and so...

Re: OOC 2

As you're all doubtlessly aware, our GM (Elswin, second of his name) hasn't been around much lately. What only some of you know, though, is that I volunteered to be co-GM back in August. My offer was accepted... but Elswin never got around to bumping me up to GM status.

Now Elswin hasn't logged in here for two weeks. There doesn't seem much chance that I'm going to be bumped up to GM status anytime soon. And, as with any game where the GM takes off (for any reason — I'm not casting aspersions here), the game appears to be grinding to a halt. This leads me to raise the following questions:

1. Given that I have no GM powers here, the only way I can take over is to restart the game under my own management. If I did so, who would actually come with me?

2. If you come over to the new game, do you want to continue from where we leave off here, or do a 'soft' reboot* by jumping ahead by some amount of time? If we do the reboot, there's some chance I might use the opening to add a couple of new players.

3. I don't do games that don't have plots. Whatever is going on behind the scenes here (if anything) is lost to me without Elswin, but I'm more than capable of adding my own material. This isn't exactly open to debate, but I would like to know what people's feelings are on this, so I know how far I can/should go with it. What are your thoughts, if any?

4. What do you think about our current 'freeform' system? What would you think if I added a simple dice system for the rare occasion where conflict or combat occurs? (Keep in mind that there hasn't been any such combat or conflict here in all the time the game has been running. We're probably talking very occasional use.)

5. Have I missed off any obvious issues that we'd need to address? If so, feel free to bring them up.

I don't want this to turn into a massive, round-robin philosophical debate on the nature of gaming. Please try to keep your responses on-point, and directed to me. If you feel that you must reply to something someone else has posted, first take a minute to reconsider, then take it to a private message.

* = A HARD reboot is out of the question, I think. I don't expect anybody wants that.

1: Sounds great!
2: I think it's fine to jump ahead a month say. Just for clarity. And new players are great too
3: Plot please!
4: I like a system. Any system almost. Mutants and Masterminds is the 'goto' for super hero games in RPOL I think. If you want fight scenes that aren't the 'I do it but get hurt in a way that doesn't matter' which is the default free form fight scene I think you need some sort of combat system.

Re: OOC 2

I always freak out a little when GMs disappear or people talk about GMs disappearing.  I don't want to gainsay Elswin - stuff happens and I don't want to yank a game out from under him/her.  But yes, we are floundering a bit and you did volunteer.  So taking a note from Lucy's player...

1. If it is a dead game, yes!
2. A month sounds good.
3. I've been pushing personal plot points for quite a while.  A plot would be lovely, even if it isn't about me.  I've floundered a bit trying to make my own plot.  Having someone say yeah or nay would be wonderful.
4. I don't know if we need a system, except maybe something rudimentary to generate randomness.  I suspect we are all good enough writers/players to be realistic in our 'powers'.  Also keeping in mind that any 'combat' would either be like what happened on the outside, ie a crowd of people getting involved, (refering to our encounter) or something more random like a sneak attack where our characters are severely limited in response.  Of course, I think of this in terms of an overall story and not a horror movie of all of us ending up in a dark ops warehouse as prisoners!

Ryan - thank you for taking a hand.  I've been a little distracted, and part of it is not really having a direction.  Sometimes I'm as dizzy as my character.  So I appreciate you jumping in to ask the questions.

Re: OOC 2

First up, thanks for the offer Ryan :)

1). Have you tried PMing Elswin lately?  I’d prefer to move over guilt free with his blessing.  I’d also want to see what a few other PCs close to Tiff are doing…

2). Soft reboot sounds wise… and good for new players.  Maybe there could be a ‘previously thread’ to summarise past interactions?

3). Not going to lie, I’d love some plot.  Some of us have been driving things on our own and that’s worked well.

4). As long as any system is fairly simple, has a Ko before death feature, doesn’t require multiple rolls per turn, and is all available in a game notice… I wouldn’t mind its presence.

5). Would you let players run a second character?  Would you accept plot requests from players?  And would the game be Mature rating at least?  Random questions  :)

1. Not recently. If Elswin hasn't even logged in, a direct message won't go anywhere.

2. Sure!

5. Yes, but one teacher and one student per player, I think. (I might revise that after further consideration, though.) Players can definitely make suggestions. And the game would probably be rated M.

Re: OOC 2

1. I'd want to give it a little longer and maybe chat with Elswin first
2. Sounds great!
3. if we wait longer and contact Elswin maybe GM is just too stressful and they'll hand over the plot stuff to you? That's probably just wishful thinking though, X). Sounds great long as your willing to take suggestions, work with players on it so theres personal plot stuff, and stick with the original intention of the game. [e.i ASASPAR and all that good stuff]
4.As long as it is the promised very simple and not an actual system
5. Are you a nice GM? sorry have to ask cause I've had enough run-ins with scary GMs and y=usually they're pretty honest about that kind of thing.

Re: OOC 2

Just three more thoughts:

Yes, lets give a bit of time, but an rMail often gets more attention than a simple post.  I have been grabbed at games for not posting with rMails.

Ryan strikes me as a good guy.  Yes, both Lille and I can be flaky but we both like him.  Nastiness pops up in characters.

I agree on the extra character thing.  I find more than one to be a handful, but that's me.  As for the mature thing, I think that may be a given.  We cannot be adult as we have 'underage characters,' but I'm good with that.  In this game fading to black is fine, but the mature thing fits as there might be violence and such in here.

Re: OOC 2

I just want to chime in on this as well. I made a character and was supposed to join as a teacher, but it took some time for it to be accepted so I didn't realise for a long time that I had been added. When I noticed I wrote to the GM and explained that I wanted to play, but make a new character instead since time had passed and the ideas I had weren't as exciting anymore. Elswin said that he was keeping this game on the back burner because of IRL stuff, so I'm not sure what is going on but I think Elswin has his reasons.

That being said, I still want to play so if Elswin doesn't come back and I can't pitch my new character I would love to join the potential reboot, if you'll have me :)

Re: OOC 2

Of course, this stuff all happens while I'm out for a bit!

But, I think it's good that it's happened.

First, I want to say, I am aware that the current Elswin is the game's second GM.  And that's always a tough position to be in, taking over from a previous GM.   My hat's off to him for at least making the effort, so the game didn't close.

But, it's always been pretty apparent to me that his heart just wasn't in it.  Which I get.  I tend not to run games myself, and burned out pretty early the few times I tried it.  So I am not casting any stones here.

Yes, this game has suffered from lack of much of a plot, or anything to do other than hold ongoing conversations.    I went ape a bit in Group 3, because after months here, I wanted to do something beside just chat.    Not that I don't really enjoy the dialogs with the rest of you, but c'mon, once in a while, something else is nice.

Ryan, if you think you really want to do this, I'd be happy to try your version of it.  Even a little consistent GMing would make for an improvement, in my book.

Re: OOC 2

Every year or two, someone on RPOL launches a game like this: a school for superhumans, largely (or entirely) freeform. And it always — always! — dies for lack of GM involvement. And every time, I think "I can do better."

Well, it's time to put my money where my mouth is. If Elswin shows up and wants me as co-GM, that's great. If he wants to hand the game over to me entirely, also great. But if I need to lead a quiet little exodus and start over elsewhere, so be it. I'm not going to let a good group of players just wither on the vine this time.

Sorry for being scarce in posts; work just hasn't been a kind master, lately.   But I'm going to be getting caught up today & over the weekend, and things should be relatively normal next week, whether that's here or in Ryan's Elswin Mark III.

You know, perhaps the current GM would join us as a player if Ryan takes the ball, or become the assistant GM, which would be less time/pressure.   These games are flexible, no doubt something cool could be arranged, that works for all concerned.

But would also point out it isn't like this game would be locked in a vault.  It'll still be here, unless the current GM ever decides to close it.  And if he does come back, it would be possible to return, copy/pasting key stuff from the second game back over here, with then joint GMing between him and Ryan, which is more or less what was agreed to, I think.

Good question--I don't think it makes much of a difference to any of us, but you may want to consider how you want to bill yourself to any new players.

Which likely means have something about a school in the title, as this one does.

Not sure if using 'Elswin' (though I presume the in-game name will stay the same) would be a good or idea or no.   On one hand, it might attract people who've previously played.  On the other...it might be a no-no since it could imply it's the same GM?

I think 'Elswin' would be okay, I don't really care.  Perhaps though, a very 'normal' name?  With the SASPAR folks (or whatever we call them), it would make sense to have a name that doesn't scream 'weird gifts.'  'The Young People's Academy for Specialized Training' or some such varient?  Avoiding 'gifts' (which for some, it is not considered a gift) and 'school' has been used.

If we don't do SASPARS, perhaps something that reflects their desire to control or contain those who are not like them?

Academy would work in lieu.    I just think, from a marketing angle, you want prospects to understand it's a school oriented game.   Some people love those, and others eschew them.  Including it in the name draws the former, and spares the latter from wasting their time.

I agree, SASPAR could use a change of name.   It makes me think of sarsaparilla, not an enemy organization that strikes fear in our hearts.

You might think of a suitably ominous word--THORN, MACE, LAW, FLAME, SMACKO, what have you, and then invent a suitable acronym for it.

Remember while we recognize that they are evil, the public doesn’t. In the public’s eye SASPAR is the good guys. So while something ominous but not inherently evil would be good like SMACKO or FLAME. Out right evil names probably would suit the cause.

Also maybe avoid dehumanizing the altereds in the acronym. SASPAR again, is supposed to be the good guys and [in my opinion] dehumanizing altereds would push their status from shady to ‘There’s definitely something wrong’

ORCHID sounds great!  It emphasizes the containment of deviancy, which is what they want to cast us as.  And 'Harmful Individual' makes it sound like it is a personal choice to be deviant.  Hmmm...  It kind of ties into the the thing about casting superheroes as being dangerous because they embrace their differences instead of hiding them, while hiding them so that nobody sees how deviant they are.

Of course, trying to figure out what is deviant about being a mermaid... except we could drown people and blow up ships...

Thought I'd help out by drafting this and posting it here for input.  Ryan can use whatever bits he likes :)  I glossed over students who are no longer present or possibly inactive.  Its not terribly detailed, but I was going for the short & sweet approach.

quote:
EVENTS FROM THE PREVIOUS GAME...

Faze ran a treasure hunting exercise in his class, encouraging the use of Powers among the students.  This caused a stir among some, especially Morph... who objected due to ethical concerns.

Cafeteria discussions about Faze's actions and the welcoming of new students Maya, Tiffany, and others occurred afterwards.

Some private discussions also happened elsewhere, between various individuals.

An official welcoming event occurred in the Gym where students mingled and teachers took to the stage to talk about their classes.  Julianne, Estelle, and Shade (Morph's sister) were among the new attendees.  Ethics was once again hotly debated... with neither side giving ground.  Some students left the assembly in protest, others stayed.

Various students split into smaller groups... some to explore the grounds, enjoy the gardens & lake, work out in the gym, have a 'Girls Night', etc.  More new students such as Maenzee & QuanTa also turned up.

A trip to the city was organized by the teachers, with students paired off... although many of these pairs formed their own larger groups... with one going to a fair and the other going shopping.  General fun (and a small amount of trouble) was had by all.

Other events included some students taking on janitorial work, Old Jacques beginning his Electrical Engineering class, discovery of a ruined temple on school grounds, and another Girls Night.

AFK for the rest of the day.

CRASH is fine.  And thanks everyone for the thumbs up.

While we wait for the 27th, here’s some questions…

Q1). Do we still need to set the game date as 2041?  I haven’t seen much futuristic tech/themes in the game that couldn’t be replicated with powers or an NPC.  The timeline could be pushed back to 2025… and RL tv/music/fashion/tech would probably be better for it.  Just a suggestion :)  What do other ppl think?

Q2). I’m working on a secondary teacher PC and wondered what subjects were of interest to the current PCs.  So far I’m leaning towards Finance, but could certainly pivot to something else or have other specialisations.  The tricky part is that I’m not a RL teacher or a US person, so I don’t know it’s education system.  Are people here willing to overlook specifics in the name of fun?

Organizational name:  No vested interested, any suggested are good.  Since Ryan will be playing those npcs, it's best he goes with whatever resonates with him.

Time:  Yeah-- I too would like a dial back on the year, something closer to the one in which we live.    I don't think anyone's paid much attention to the game taking place almost 20 years in the future, and how technologies and other things might be different.   And why should we want to-?  It's an extra layer of complexity that adds nothing to the game, in my book.

Teaching/school:  What QuanTa said.  Striving to emulate real world scholastics = no point/no fun in a non-realistic game.    I'm also giving some thought to a teacher character, but I dunno, probably won't.

Lol. Some of us don't know the actual American school system at all. So I'm good with anything.

I won't be doing a teacher character. I might have a go with the first aid club again. And maybe a capoeria club. We'll see how they work out

Re: OOC 2

Time: Yeah, I'll probably rewind the clock a decade or two.

School system: Yeah, the whole school system thing means nothing to me. This game has gone on for a year and a half, and have we actually had a class yet?

Agency name: I'm probably going to stick with CRASH. Nothing else I've come up with sounds even that good.

Re: OOC 2

Maybe we think of it as more of a learning environment rather than a school?  A place where everyone learns about each other and why it is important to stay hidden, with older mentors (like teacher, but more informal) who can connect others to skills or tactics that can assist them both to control their own powers as well as to possibly protect them or give them tools to protect themselves.

How does that sound?

Re: OOC 2

Something like that is probably a better model, and makes more sense.   Most of us already have at least a basic education, and some have university on top of it and/or a career.    Most of our issues have more to do Altered-centric things, rather than getting a traditional education.    Not that there can't be a place for that too, and a teacher(s) who specializes it.

Yeah, I also noticed the lack of in-game classes, and it seemed to me that dovetailed with a lack of GM-run npcs in general.   Jacques made efforts, and did offer a class in the end, but it was specialized, and intended only for a few players.

Even though many of us attended anyway, lol.  I think it was kinda like--"OMG, a class, at last!  Let's go!"

Re: OOC 2

Well except for Lucy/Shade. When we joined it was a school and we thought that meant a school not a 18+ college/university. That comment's just for 'why we are the age we are'. Changing that would be huge and I'd prefer not to. Even if we go adult it will be fine: you can have children characters in adult games, just not in certain types of scene.

So I think it will work out fine. Lucy and Shade might need 'home schooling' or 'do it themselves'. But given the chaos outside with CRASH doing bad stuff that's the way it is. Besides I'm not convinced conventional schooling will help them enormously with what they need... I'm thinking more a 'guerilla camp' type of thing is how it might end up

Mae also joined the school hoping for education [among other things]. She has been trained for awhile on staying hidden. It will still work fine though.

Re: OOC 2

I like that with the age thing especially.  And even with the rest of us, we all have life experiences that someone might want to know about in an informal setting.  Adult or peer or even friend mentoring would be more useful in this environment as opposed to structured classes.  Among us we have likely people with knowledge in math, sciences, history and arts, plus real world experiences, both normal and those based on our gifts.

AFAIK it is, but I wasn't in the other game yet when I posted here. I'd guess Julianna could post in the nursing office in the other game?

Yeah sorry, my computer turned into an elaborate paperweight again so I'm working on getting a proper replacement

Copy/pasting the rtj on mobile is going to be a pain since it won't let me quote the message, but I think I can manage a workaround
