RTJ and Character Generation

Before you RTJ:

Ideally this is going to be a story heavy game set in a dark fantasy version of Montreal in the late 1980s.

The games uses PbtA mechanics.  Most of it will be blackbox (meaning the character stats and mechanics are managed by me behind the scenes). That means for PCs, there will not be any die rolling.

Your character starts the game as a vampire of the Camarilla who lives behind the veil of the Masquerade to hid the existence of the Kindred from mortals... if you can handle all that, read on...

RTJ and Character Generation

To join the game, give me an RTJ that, includes:

A statement that you have reached the age in our region of residence to be consider an adult and are comfortable with a game that includes mature situations and themes. (Yeah, I know it’s handled through the admins but I like to get a sense of age, and hopefully maturity, of the players)

A character name

What clan do you want to play (Brujah, Gangrel, Malkavian, Nosfreatu, Ventrue, Toreador, Tremere)?

Some other things that will need to come eventually - start now if you like.

Ancient History:
Where and when was your character born?
Who, if anyone, in your family is still alive?
What was your lifestyle like growing up?
Do you still have friends from before you were embraced; from childhood or school or a job you used to have?

Life by night:
How was your character embraced?
What is your relationship to your sire?
What ties you to the city? Who are your enemies? Who are your friends? What are your plans?
Where does the character draw the line?
Has your character ever had to kill someone?
How did they feel about the life they now lead?

Style:
Describe your character's appearance.
Where do they relax?
Where do they party?
What kind of music do the character listen to?

RTJ and Character Generation

What I really don't need to see in an RTJ is a completed character sheet. As part of blackbox mechanics, I'll take care of all the number crunching because I want PCs to focus on making cool stories.

Once accepted into the game, for the first 30-50 posts in the game, we'll play out a prelude scene to establish a narrative that will help develop the character's traits and personality.  The questions I'll ask and decision you will make in the prelude are meant to fill out the chargen details.  As decisions are made, the results will be reflected in your playbook thread.

We’ll set the stage with a brief look at some choices that needed to be made during a scene from your most recent evening in the shadows.

Disclaimer: Don't stress about decisions and the impact on character stats that come up in prelude. At the end you get to veto anything on the character sheet and make changes to ensure the character is what you’re after.
