Forgot one thing,

Elliott thinks about the name, and the next day (now as a genderless 40 year old) says, "Order magic loves numbers that are multiples of 2 and especially 4. 8 is a powerful Order number, so how about 'Nail Tale', that's 2 words 4 letters each for 8 letters total - very Orderly. It'll show the experienced Versers that you know what you're doing, and probably get some kind of boon from the god of Order."

Regarding anvils:
*Rolls*
It turns out, the better he is at summoning toon things, the less likely he is to get non-toon things ((would require all dice to roll highest possible numbers, so now it would be 7 6s in one roll)). None of the anvils he summons are made of iron, just toon iron, which can only be forged for toon items. There is a small market for forged toon items since they tend to be more durable than drawn toon items, though.

One person, noticing his lack of real iron offers to trade 1 Order nail for 97 lb of real iron - he's not interested in haggling.

Someone interested in buying a nail offers to teach Jack how to high-jump and double-jump - 1 nail for each skill.

“Nail Tale. That works!” Jack confirms and pulls out his halberd so he can reach the sign, bopping it on the sign to try and make the extra letters fall off, and once he does, he pushes the remainders together. Cartoon physics. Hopefully the order from the halberd will help the orderly nature of the letters come together?

The 97 pounds of iron should make plenty of nails, so he makes the trade and starts crafting. He has no idea if he’s getting taken advantage of, but he makes a mental note to get lots of money in worlds from now on and buy like a hundred tons of every substance he can find.

When the person offers to teach him to jump and double-jump, he has no idea what those things are, but he loves to learn and asks, “Are they toon abilities? If not you can teach me in my Tardis,” and will go in with them and learn both skills for a nail each.

Once they are off and about she tries to do the whole bunny/golem thing in a physical setting.... well toonphysics. Maybe she could help Jack make/sell the nails. If she could summon up the kinda plant the golems are usually made out of they are quite fire-resistant.

Works perfectly

“Are they toon abilities? If not you can teach me in my Tardis,”

The Italian man in a cammo plumber's suit replies, "Actually they're Digital Magic, but super easy in most worlds. Yeah, I'll teach you in there."

*Rolls & advancements*

The plumber jumps 10 feet into the air as Jack watches a few times, telling Jack the secrets of how to prepare his mind. In human form, Jack senses Numbers and Codes as he prepares to high jump. He crouches and springs up 9 feet into the air, learning alot from the experience.

"Great! Here's how you double jump..."

After explaining, he shows Jack. Jack misses some of what the plumber says, but gets the gist of it.

Jack does another high jump, this time only 5 feet high, then double jumps an extra 1 foot into the air.

He has no idea if he’s getting taken advantage of

"Lucky!" Elliott says, "You'd normally only get an average of about 50 lb of metal on average for an Order nail."

quote:
Maybe she could help Jack make/sell the nails

Perhaps if she learned some magic skills, she might be able to do more, but as she is, Stella is able to commandeer the holoprojector from the holocube and make a hologram of herself to help sell nails for skills.

They get an offer to trade 2 Order nails for a skill called Ghost Recon from a man dressed in military formal-wear, and from a bright blue eyed (no whites in the eyes, only blue) woman in a one-piece dark grey suit an offer for Voice Command for 3 nails.

Late in the day, Pete comes by to collect his nail. "Thanks, bub. Be seeing ya!"

Near the end of the day, the Tardis AI reminds Jack, "You still haven't installed the Cartoon room in your Tardis. Would you like me to repurpose the area in the Tardis for something else?"

((Are there any particular magic skills you'd like Jack to learn? Almost ready to move things along, now.))

“Digital magic! I’ll have to add that to the list of magics to learn,” Jack says, aware that his helmet is probably part digital magic itself.

Learning how to jump and double jump, Jack spends time practicing it every so often. Jumping around and trying to get the hang of how to use it when he’s doing other things and not just when he’s concentrating on it. That means getting to a level of proficiency that requires a bit less “thinking” and more muscle memory.

Hopping back and forth, he grins at the words of Elliott.

“Is it? Well, I should be able to get several more nails out of this pile,” he confirms with a smile toward Elliott.

Jack accepts all trades for skills, he doesn’t even really haggle too much, he just likes to learn things and all of these skills feel like hints at other forms of magic he can uses in the future.

“No, I’ll install it now,” he tells the AI and closes the shop once all the training is done. Proceeding inside, he begins the process of giving the room in question the bias.

((Intangibility, Flight, uh.. some sort of progressive growth trickery that will benefit him in the long term? Like an RPG growth system, or a mutation that gets stronger with time.))

*Roll & advance & learn Detect Character Level*

Indeed, upon reflecting on how the helmet "felt", he remembers feeling Numbers and Code. In fact, when he remembers it, he starts seeing the "levels" of the people around him - lots of "?" levels, but plenty of 13s-20s. ((Ask about a character's level and Jack will see it if he can. Helmet will make it easier for high level characters))

quote:
Jack accepts all trades for skills, he doesn’t even really haggle too much

*Rolls and learnings*

The military man introduces himself as Sgt Slotter and teaches Jack how to feel so dead, that he begins to fade. "Once you're good enough at it, you can even walk through walls. You just won't be able to touch anything until your really good at it."

Jack tries it, and manages to fade almost invisible - he'd be very hard to see.

"Thanks for the nail! I tried to convince Mr Magehammer to give me one for ages, and he never did! You're a big help, dude."

The woman with blue eyes goes in the Tardis with Jack and modulates her voice high and low so that he doesn't consciously hear it, saying, "Learn the Voice of Command." And he does.

On a whim, Jack tries it out, saying, "Teach me something else."

She resists the urge, and says, "Nice try, but you'll need to get better at it before you can affect a mind as strong as my own. But good luck. I appreciate the nails."

quote:
“No, I’ll install it now,”

Jack sets about creating the Cartoon room for his Tardis. Reflecting on what he's been told and what he knows, he takes the pencil Pete have him, and a blank page from the book he got from the Truthteller Hobo and begins drawing planks of wood and nails in the completed form of a dojo since he doesn't really know carpentry. But he can draw.

Once he finishes it, he remembers what happened when he put the Order Nail in the toon hammer, so he adds an Order Nail to the Toon Room and hangers hammers it in with the Order Toon Hammer.

When it's done, he finds it even easier to do toon magic in the room than it was in regular Toonland.

As soon as he finishes, Jiminy shows up, "I'm sorry to return so soon, but things have changed. Please come immediately! I'll show the way!" And he begins hopping away out past the bubbles to where there is no Verser scriff sense.

Elliott (as a 50 year old stunning woman in a little red dress) sees Jiminy hopping away and says, "Hey, Jack! Good luck dude! I'll cover the rent for you if you don't return. See you soon!" She winks.

Stella is able to alter her holographic image to whatever she likes within about 20' radius of the helmet.

She gets the feeling that if she owned the compass, she could manipulate it's toon shape and appearance, but since it belongs to Jack, that would be harder to do.

Jack begins to wonder what level he is, even as he is looking at others. He knows he has a goal based on Emperor Jack and his 8192, and that’s to be … over 9000. Though if the behavior of time is anything to go by, he imagines the other Jack might be stronger or weaker when they next meet. Though if he captures evil-him in the past wouldn’t that undo what he’d already done?

“Pleasure to meet you Sergeant,” he greets the man and doesn’t mind giving the touches of order out. It’s not a bad thing, right? He feels like the God of Order would tell him if he shouldn’t be so casual with trading them away. It must just be a personal preference for Mr. Magehammer.

As he fades away, he imagines that combining this with other techniques could really make him undetectable. Something to make sure he tests when he gets to every dimension, for sure.

With the Toon Room installed, he feels like he’s got a real hang of this!

Elliott being a pretty woman again makes his eyes stretch out of his skull.

"Uh, yeah, thanks Elliott. Though I don't know how long it'll be!"

Stepping back outside the hat, he looks at Jiminy and says, “No worries Jiminy, hop on, and point the way!” and he keeps running. Reaching into his hat, he pulls out a rocket with a saddle on it and starts to point it in the desired direction.  “This about right?” he asks the cricket and hits the launch button.

Then he remembers something Elliott said at the restaurant when he was distracted ((not written out yet)), that, although it is impossible to change the past, it is possible to create a new future, and a divergent universe associated with the new future. Therefore if you come across a Verser in their past, and alter there past, numerous possibilities exists - including the possibility of destroying both universes (the one your in and the one from the other Verser's future and your past), creating a new future for you both (but leaving your pasts the same - thereby creating a new divergent of both you and the other Verser), and a few other possibilities.

quote:
Elliott being a pretty woman again makes his eyes stretch out of his skull.

Elliott laughs in delights at his reaction, and blows him a kiss, winking her cartoon eye with long oversized eyelashes.

Once on their way, Jiminy points in the direction of where to go.

The place is in
Somewhat Plausible
Fairly Serious
Fairly Realistic
Strict

Upon entering the area, Jiminy becomes a short man in a tux, and Jack takes on the form of a very detailed cartoon human.

There's an extremely realistic giant beanstalk with regular bean-sized seed pods, stretching up to the clouds. Jiminy explains that a giant has been murdering the local villagers. It being well known that a Jack fights and kills a giant after climbing a giant beanstalk, once magic beans purchased, planted and grown every boy named Jack in their village attempted to climb the beanstalk and find the giant and kill him. However, none succeeded.

Just then, while looking up, they both notice a man in the distance falling from the sky. Jiminy goes white-faced. It isn't a regularly sized man. When he finally lands, there is a loud crash and earthquake. He leaves behind a crater about 20 feet deep in a cloud of smoke and dust that mushrooms into the air hundreds of feet. The giant himself, is 81 ft tall, and has no skin or clothes or embarrassing bits. Immediately he goes on a murder rampage, killing everything in sight. Additionally he points his right pointer finger and a white beam of light leaves behind intense flames everywhere he points. He points with his left pointer finger and a black beam leaves behind ice everywhere he points. For some reason, Jack feels unable to respond. Jiminy notices Jack's failed attempts to move and quietly explains (while recording horror at the carnage), "It's like that the first time anyone sees him. You'll be able to react next time."

Jack now notices that his level is 50, and the giant's level is 55. His Order magic seems far far far easier than he's ever felt before.

Just then, Jack notices ... Something in the sky, but by the time he looks, it's gone.

Suddenly, as quickly as he came, the giant leaps into the sky and keeps on going until he's out of sight.

Looking over the area and listening to the Tale of this area, Jack is a bit confused what this has to do with him, though it all feels vaguely familiar in some way. Like some part of him resonates with whatever is happening here. Their own arrival a few minutes later aboard the rocket is pretty smooth, so he’s happy about that.

Walking toward the village, he watches the man fall and draws out his halberd.

The whole thing confuses him.

“So, the guy falls from the sky, blasts around with that energy, and then takes off again? Do you think he’s a bad guy? Maybe he’s stuck in some sort of time-loop?” he asks as he pulls out his compass and starts to walk toward the bean stock.

Checking his compass, he tries to make heads or tails of everything. What was that magic that affected him, he assumes it was some sort of order business? And what manner of magics can he use to solve the problem? Also, does the idea of it being some sort of time-loop hold up?

“Stella, I need my compass, I don’t want to rely on you for telling me what it says, but maybe I can separate you? That’s what you want right, control of something?” he asks.

Stella, using the compass's magic, notices that the beanstalk is a new kind of magic - Plant Magic, and not Toon Magic.

Cartoon magic of some sort prevented him from being able to move.

Given that this is a toon area with a Narrative guidance, and Order magic is three times as easy as it should be in a Verse that is generally easier for magic, and the badguy is using Order and Chaos magic to create chaos... Order magic is the logical answer. But first, there's all the chaos left behind to deal with.

Speaking of which, there are many villagers suffering from the attack. 31 are suffering from being on fire or are dealing with burns, 32 are partially or fully encased in ice or are freezing, 10 are near death and dying but might be saved, 27 are badly injured from being kicked or partially stomped, and 79 are trying to put out fires or help the injured. Even though they're cartoons, they're like what Elliott called Anime, and they are suffering in the same way that physical people would suffer.

quote:

Some kind of timey wimey stuff is going on, but it's not a time-loop.

quote:
maybe I can separate you? That’s what you want right, control of something?

((He'd be able to separate Stella from the compass and she'd retain it's ability to detect magics and how they work. There's enough Balur crystal grown in the background and findable in the Tardis, that if she was placed on it, her ability to use Balur would allow her to control a Balur crystal and do whatever she wanted (Een approved, so not evil) with Balur magics. That will be easier in a physical environment than in Toonland. Use your imagination, and bonus points if you come up with your own method, but one possibility is to combine a magic bean with a bit of Balur, and Stella. The magic bean would sense what was needed and grow her a plant golem to ride in.))

For reference, the giant looks like the Colossal Titan, from Attack on Titan.

Jack makes a mental note to get those beans, they’re magic!

But then, once he has a general handle on what is happening, sets to reversing the effects on the people using a glut of Order Magic, since it’s so much easier here: considering the following is all done in the order of a triage, most dire cases first!

He begins by teleporting from spot to spot, rather than travel on foot putting out the people-fires with his ability to freeze things, and then a quick follow up to begin the healing process by cleaning their wounds, purifying and setting their body to heal. Teleporting to those encased in ice, he does the opposite, using beams of light to melt the ice away. Healing is spread around, and he attempts to make it a broad-scale mass-healing, rather than keeping it single target. If he can get them out of the red, he can get to them later.

Once he has saved the people, he starts using Order magic to repair the area and put it back to the way it was prior to the attack.

“I need to learn how he makes people freeze like that, that’s a neat trick,” he comments to himself and Stella. Maybe he could learn it using the brain-scarf? But then he’d only have the one shot at it.

Having been trained by Magehammer in Order combat tactics, here is how he accomplished his goals:

He begins by teleporting from spot to spot, alternating between putting out the people-fires by adding Order to cool them down and simultaneously heal them, warming up the frozen by absorbing the excess Order from the cold ice and giving them a little Order Healing. ((Order magic can't create light, only absorb it or distort it in an Orderly fashion))

He absorbs the Order from the ice everywhere and uses that Order mana to perform a broad-scale mass-healing and structure repair. He's a little drained, but alot better off than is he hadn't balanced taking Order in and putting it out. If he absorbed more order from something, he'd feel normal or even powered up.

quote:
“I need to learn how he makes people freeze like that, that’s a neat trick,” he comments to himself and Stella. Maybe he could learn it using the brain-scarf?

The Compass reveals that it was Order Freeze.

Stella gets the feeling that regular wacky style cartoon magic might not work as well in such a serious and realistically drawn  place without equally realistic drawings to base the transformation off of. But it's an interesting idea to try in a wacky place, for sure.

If the giant can do that with Order Freeze, he can do that with Order Freeze. With practice anyway, he’ll make it into a cool stare maneuver while he’s at it. He hadn’t known it could be used in that particular way! Like a body freeze without being cold.

“Okay, so the beanstock seems to be connecting this area to the area above, maybe if I cut it down and grab all the seed pods, it’ll prevent the giant from coming down again?” he considers. He’s pretty sure he’d be justified in going up and trying to kill the giant, but he’d like to at least make sure these people are safe, in case he fails to pull it off and dies in the process.

While he thinks about his plan, he lets himself recover, spinning his halberd idly in his hand as he ponders on how best to handle this. That does seem like a way to do it, but he’d never slain a giant that can use magic before, heck, he hasn’t really slain much of anything. He did accidentally slay a few billion people with time magic, but that doesn’t count, he’s certain that isn’t on his tally sheet.

Once he has recovered, he gives the back of his head a scratch starts using Order magic again, since it’s so ripe here, to start teleporting up the beanstock. Grabbing the beans and stuffing them into his hat, he’ll deal with them later.

Once he has all of the seeds, he lands again and sets about examining the base of the beanstock, trying to think of the best way to give it a good smack.

But maybe first he should go with plan T and set a whole bunch of traps for the giant first? Yeah, that seems wise.

Going to the area around the base of the ‘stock where the giant had fallen the first time, he sets out to create a whole bunch of magical and mundane traps. He gets the villagers involved if he can. Digging up a huge pit all around the base of the bean-stock. Cutting down whole trees to make spikes, he then uses Order magic on them to make them harder and less likely to break before they get penetration.  The Order magic channeled through his halberd requiring a marking on each and a few chanted words.

Once the spike traps are set, he draws out a ritual line around the whole area with the base of his staff and fills it with salt, then he sets out to shroud the entire trap in diffused light so that it’d be hard to detect by a falling giant.

The last step of the plan has him start up the bean-stock.

((Obviously this could all be impossible at some point, but I figured I’d just enact the plan and be dialed back as appropriate.))

If the giant can do that with Order Freeze

((I totally misunderstood the question. I thought you were talking about his freeze ray that he was using to put people in blocks of ice. The magic that caused Jack to be unable to move was a special type of Cartoon Magic and it didn't come from the giant, but from whatever was in the sky for that brief moment... But...))

Jack realizes he was frozen in place by Cartoon Magic (which he could try to learn) by whatever was in the sky that one moment, but...

Because he thought of it, Jack does realize that there's a way to keep people from moving without encasing them in ice or making them freeze from cold - he'll have to try it sometime. It would be a matter of adding Order to the body (muscle fibers, nerve tissues, skeletal structure, connective tissues, skin) to crystallize its current shape for a time.

quote:
While he thinks about his plan, he lets himself recover

Time ain't gonna heal these wounds, so he feels the god of Order directing him to find smooth stones or dark places and absorb the excess Order from those objects. Night time would also help restore his reserves. He finds a smooth black spherical stone about the size of his torso and begins absorbing the Order out of the stone. The color goes pale grey, the edges get ever rougher and the cracks deepen until the stone falls to pieces. He continues pulling the Order from the largest jagged piece, and the process is slower going, but eventually the whole piece crumbles to ash.
He finds a small dark cave and draws the Order out of the cave. At first, light is drawn into the shade of the cave, but then the cave collapses. He feels that if he draws the Order out of a tree it would crack and dry and die.

quote:
first he should go with plan T and set a whole bunch of traps for the giant first

*Rolls, advancements, bonus for use of Halberd, chant and runes added post-roll*

The spike trap comes together marvelously. The soft pine spikes are made as hard as solid ironwood, and the roughly carved tips become smooth cone-shapes with just the tip keeping their Chaos in the sharp point.

The diffused light cloak works like this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6HKu9IHM_gE

quote:

teleporting up the beanstalk. Grabbing the beans

Jiminy explains the giant came first, they bought the beans in exchange for a cow and planted them to try to reach the giant where he slept. No one has made it to the top yet or come back alive to even know if that is possible.

There are far too many magic beans to collect them all, however, he's able to grab 541 magic beans as he teleport climbs the stalk.

While teleporting, he passes the frozen form of one man, the burned skeleton of another.

Then, for the briefest moment a square opening in the sky appears and he sees an even larger lanky teen boy moving a pencil over the area at unbelievable fast speed - drawing the giant into existence. Simultaneously he remembers the teen moving at normal speed and somehow tracing over the giant from his perspective. Then the lanky teen disappears with the opening, and the giant turns its head to Jack. The giant swings his right arm out to grab ahold of the beanstalk and points at Jack with his left finger.

Jack tries to learn how to do the paralyzing thing, because he feels like he’s going to be leaving this place soon and that’ll limit his ability to learn Cartoon magic for a good long while. So he retreats into his Tardis and enters the cartoon biased rooms so that he can attempt to learn how to make people freeze like that.

He also might try to learn that other way, if he can think of how to put it together.

He does this while holding the Order items, letting his mind work while his body is busy pulling in the Order out of the inert objects.

“I wonder if I could weaponize drawing order out of someone,” he wonders and then realizes that’s sort of what Freeze does.

The trap, when put together, is very much to his liking and he approves of the setup they’ve come up with, and maybe afterward the villagers can use the spikes to make a wall or something useful out of them.

Later, as he climbs, collecting ever so many beans, he imagines they might be worth re-selling, or using himself if he can figure out some uses for them.

The boy drawing the giant into existence gets a look, so that’s the problem! Some sort of verser playing with lives! He’ll give them the business directly! While the square is still open, he attempts to teleport through the opening and into the room the teen was drawing from.

If that doesn't work, he does his best to stay out of the range of the giant, and starts throwing identical beams back at the guy.

If he drained a person of their Order, first old wounds would reopen, then their cells would age and die and ultimately turn to dust and lukewarm water.

He gets a strong feeling he should wait on this. He feels he needs one more piece of information to be able to learn it well.

He also might try to learn that other way, if he can think of how to put it together.

He's pretty sure he remembers seeing them for sale in the Verser Toon market, about the same value as an Order nail. Must be useful then.

he attempts to teleport through the opening and into the room the teen was drawing from.

*Roll & advance*

Not only does it work, but on a totally crazy whim he stops by the side of the giant and holds onto the giant as he teleports through the hole and into the room.

He feels an immediate choice available to him to pick which form he'd like to arrive in - Detailed Cartoon Jack, Detailed Cartoon Order Dragon, or regular real Jack.

Whichever choice he makes, is a good thing the giant didn't apparently have the same choice, because it appears on the teen's drawing desk about 81mm tall. It just sits there doing nothing, starting blankly into the distance.

Also on the desk is the recently drawn scene of carnage that Jack just finished fixing. There's a post-it note on Jack's image in the scene which says, "new Jack character, just came to me and had to draw - 1st draft - draw scene of Jack fighting giant, next. ((Now he can learn Cartoon 1st Draw Stun - stuns a cartoon the first time you draw them until you stop drawing them))

The regular sized teen starts and says, "What the fuck!?"

Outside the window of this 1st floor studio apartment, real people and highly detailed toons wander around to and fro.

Jack 1.2

Jack reaches over and puts the cartoon giant into his floppy wizard hat before putting it back on his head. No more of that, thank you. He appears as himself in the flesh, but of course, him in the flesh is sort of just a real version of the detailed cartoon Jack. So, it shouldn’t be too difficult for the artist to figure out what had happened.

When he realizes how the stun works, he realizes that isn’t the exact thing he’d hope to be able to do since he can’t exactly draw his own enemies to fight, it wouldn’t accomplish anything. But maybe he could translate that to a different skill. All the same, he takes a moment to absorb the knowledge.

After a breath, he finally speaks, “Hey, I’m Jack. You’ve been terrorizing that village, give them some nice stuff and move on to a different idea. You’ve got the gift to bring it to life elsewhere in the multiverse, so find a way to be positive with your creations, okay? A little struggle is good, but make sure the good guys win after a few reasonable battles, you know?” he encourages.

He gives a thumbs up.

"Interesting we went up a narrative level but there are still cartoons. You think people like this kid drew them all or they are natural here?"

The teen goes wide-eyed, "I WHAT!? No, no no no no!" He runs over to the table, examines the paper closely and says, "Awe, maaan! Please don't tell on me! I swear I didn't know I was using enchanted paper! I was just practicing so I could get good enough to draw my own Toon, I didn't mean to make it real! Dang it! Dad's gonna kill me for wasting all that enchanted paper! Oh NO! I could go to jail for hurting all those Toons!

"Hey I swear I won't make that mistake again, please let me... Hey, aren't you Jack? COOOL! OMG, I've thought so much about you! I imagined you coming from a magical dimension and traveling from universe to universe. After shrinking the giant, I imagined you were going to go to a universe withi-"

((Just enough time to move around & do whatever while the teen is speaking non-stop))

Just then, a giant saw blade flew through the front window at the speed of sound and sliced Jack neatly in half right down the middle. The blade kept going through the next wall and lodged in a rebar enforced brick wall next door.

The teen screamed for a moment until Jack and all his stuff vanished from sight. Then he looked around confused, and, finding the remaining enchanted paper partially destroyed, he says, "Awe, maaaan!"

Jack 1.2

Jack picks up some of the enchanted paper when his attention is called to it and examines it with his compass. His Sherlock-level reasoning skills tell him that the paper is what had made it happen in a real manner. Such genius. He steals some of the paper and puts it into his hat as well, it’s his tax.

“That’s me,” he confirms and listens to what the other guy has to say. He wasn’t much older than the teen when he’d been shang-hai’d back in his home universe by a pretty lady with a portal, so he can appreciate the sentiment.

As he’s split in half, he turns his eyes to the teen and says..

“Guess it’s time for me to split.”
