"It seems to reason that in a metaphysical reality a protagonist from a non peraphisical...or atleat less pataphisical??? That's always so.ething to wonder....but yes... it stands to reason they could 'write" something into exsistance. I always had the theory Rabbit Hole was patahysical and this why mater born from it couldn't exsist in other realities. You should get a power boost here due to universal themes favoring a protagonist......unless being a dragon makes makes you the antagonist here"

(sorry if anything dont make sense, I'm on my phone and it keeps trying to auto correct everything)

“They don’t like that I’m a dragon? Why am I a dragon anyway?”

"They're afraid of dragons because dragons are scary. Their perceptions are fairly childlike There really isn't a reason. As to why you're a dragon, your guess is as good as mine. I guess because on some level it makes sense?"

The laws of this place work as expected and he shrinks to fit as he dives in to the forge.

He finds himself stumbling into a non-cartoon real mansion filled with many items including a minivan, an arsenal of ((stone-age to modern to far-future warfare)) weapons, ((I apologize, but Magehammer is based on an NPC who was based on the GM who ran the first multiverser game I played and introduced me to the concept that this homebrewed version uses. I recently found out he died last June, so this is in memory of him. He'd want it to be faithful to the truth, so)) pornographic statues and art, and a wall of herbs and pharmaceuticals ranging in diversity.

"You're a Verser, that means you were infected with what I call scriff. Scriff is the... stuff, that sort of exists between universes. If you die, you wake up in a new universe. Your stuff is tied to you and will go with you wherever you go. Anyone who gets infected with your blood or body fluids - if it's enough of it - will become Versers if they die before the scriff in the fluid dissipates. You are infertile, so don't work about having kids, you're safe from that danger. The laws of every universe vary. Some places, bodies can't exist - only drawings. Other places, magic can't exist. Other places, technology is useless. It's the multiverse, bro, anything is possible, right?" He grabs a smoking bong from a side table and sits on a couch, gesturing to the other side, he offers the bong, "Do you smoke? If not, more for me!"

"Got any questions before I go on?"

“Wait, I might be the villain in this world? That’s weird, should I burn something down? Can I breathe fire?” Jack asks the compass as he dives inside.

Looking around at all of the weapons and ‘artwork,’ the teenage wizard scratches the back of his head at some of the weapons. For the most part, he ignores the tributes to hedonism and focuses on the weapons and even looks around for any spells he might purchase somehow.

“I see,” he confirms as the nature of scriff is explained to him. That sounds like a made up word, but half of what he has been hearing sounds made up. “No,” he refuses the bong, and instead continues to examine the wares out of curiosity. Not touching anything, but leaning in and staring while his hands stay pinned behind his back.

“Please continue. I’ll save my questions until you’re done,” he suggests.”

"If you're the villain, I'd be the guy they hired to kill you. Unless you redefined what it means to be a villain, in which case maybe they could grow up a little. Every parent is their child's villain at some point.

"Let's see... even in worlds where magic didn't work, anything you're particularly good at would usually still work. But you'd have to be careful, because if you failed to do what you intended on a hard bit of magic in a world that magic is non-native, you risk the remote possibility of a world-ending catastrophe - potentially even enough to destroy that entire universe.

"So please don't make a mess back in toonland.

"People native to a universe aka a 'verse, are called indigs. If you meet a different version of yourself, that's a Divergent. Dying is politely referred to as versing out.

"Ask me if something might exist that you're not sure of, just as an example."

"If you are the antagonist there is a high likelyhood of a protagonist killing you... playing into the role would only increase the odds and make this happen faster. I would avoid antagonizing the residents unless you want to be slain. Also antagonist do have a higher probability of dealing with world destroying magics..... so I would suggest avoiding any antagonist tropes at all. Not just for the sake of avoiding being slain but avoiding hurting these people you should try and remember any good dragon tropes you can."

Jack seems to be listening and absorbing and turns away from the weapons to sit not so far away from Mr. Magehammer, not looking overly perplexed. He has had his fill in the past, however long, to get used to the oddities of being a verser. It’s more the particulars he wants to understand better. He knows that every universe will be weird and have its own rules. That much has been obvious.

“My magic does seem to be acting rather erratically lately. I managed to banish everyone with a similar name in the entire Universe in one verse, and then when I messed with the timeline in the next one, trying to get everyone out, I instead ripped everyone in half. At least I think it was me, I was trying to use a time-hole to time travel,” he shares idly as he picks at the back of his human hands, wondering how the universe had decided what he looked like in ‘Toon Land.’

He nods at not making a mess there.

“Uh, I imagine all things exist, but um,” he pauses trying to think of something that doesn’t even make sense to exist, “Nope. I got nothing, if a world full of drawings can be real, then I can’t imagine anything that can’t. It’s beyond me. That’s just too absurd,” he decides.

“Please continue though.”

He nods at his compass.

"My suggestion is for you to learn what you need to know to survive. In Toonland, that would mean learning what you can do. Do you know you're an Order Dragon?"

"No, what's the difference?" Jack asks, not recognizing what it means. He's used to varieties based on the color and type of scales they have, not on some sort of measurement of chaos.

"One version of the many unlimited versions of magic in the multiverse is the complimentary opposites of Order and Chaos. I'm an Order Mage, chosen by the god of Order. As such, I can sense Order and Chaos magic.

"You have an Order Halberd which gives you the ability to use Order magic through it, and as an Order Dragon you can use it instinctually. Whatever you learn in toonland, you'll probably be able to do with the halberd in other verses.

"If you want to learn how to survive in the more common type of verse - real places - then I'll be happy to train you here in my pocket dimension mansion, until I'm happy you'll be able to survive on your own almost anywhere.

"I noticed you looking over my weapons collection. Can you use them? I can teach you any of those too."

A voice in Jack's head says to him alone, "You can do whatever you want beyond these choices too. Spiritual practices even work like magic."

Mr Magehammer continues, "You should know, wherever two or more Versers congregate, chaos is inevitable. We might have a million years to hang out in toonland. We might not last 10 minutes. Choose what's most important to you first."

“First, I’d like to learn about your magic, I feel like I’d learn to survive those places on my own but who knows how long it’d be until I get to learn your magic,” Jack requests and reaches back to pull the halberd free, studying it as he prepares to receive information. He definitely isn’t going to do anything aside from working with Mr. Magehammer, it’d be one of those two options, so that he can make the most out of this “Toon Land.”

To the voice in his head, he points out he'd really like to stop getting bounced from universe to universe, but for the moment that seems to be the status quo, and in that thought he knows that he needs to learn to survive too. So he has to focus on learning from Mr. Magehammer, not having conversations with himself.

Hopefully “chaos” doesn’t seep in before he can learn that too.

“What do you get out of all of this, Mr. Magehammer?” he asks.

Here are the basic areas of Order magic I'm aware of - anything you can imagine which involves either adding Order or removing Order or some combination of the both is open for consideration.

Darken/undarken/shade (You already have 6 in this skill)
Freeze/unfreeze/create or amplify sound (absolute zero to room temperature)
Focus light/diffuse light/create image (from glow paint to laser)
Interpret communication/disguise communication
Clean, purify, unpoison, unbreak, heal/corrupt/manipulate
teleport along line of sight
invisibility/uncloak

I've listed 7 here, and I'll mention them if I think of more.

Choose 4 or 8 skills to focus on, and assign up to 6 for any one skill for a total of 24

I think he'd already have two of those: Invisibility and 'create image'

For the others:

Focus Light (he likes the idea of making a super powered laser once he sees Mr. Magehammer cast his version of it.)

Cure Poison (unpoison)

Heal

Teleport

Freeze

How does this sound?

6/6 Focus light/diffuse light/create image (from glow paint to laser)
6/6 Clean, purify, unpoison, unbreak, heal/corrupt/manipulate
6/6 teleport along line of sight
5/5 Freeze/unfreeze/create or amplify sound (absolute zero to room temperature)
1/1 Interpret communication/disguise communication

Invisibility and 'create image' can exist in many different forms of magic, not every form of magic is available in every world. Toonland, for instance, is easy for Order and Chaos magic, but hard for every other kind. Practically speaking, after this world, you won't be limited to just Order magic again in the campaign - but it is your choice as it is your character.

What would you do on your own with 8 hours a day for 20 years in Toonland other than learn Order magic? Mr Magehammer needs to work the forge to keep the indigs happy, so you'll have about that much time away from sleeping and training magic.

That's good!

I totally misread your post initially, to answer: he'd probably shadow Mr. Magehammer and apprentice alongside him to learn how to make things, he wants to maximize his learning ability with that talent he was given by Stella, so learning magic quickly as he can from those who are willing to teach is priority number one in pretty much every possibility.

Mr Magehammer will gladly teach him to Blacksmith from inside the forge, but definitely wouldn't teach him any more magic.

For interpreting skill levels, in general consider 1 to be noob, 2 initiate, 3 regular, 4 practiced, 5 skilled and 6 expert

Spreading out 16 points to a max of 4 in any skill, how about this set up:
Classic weaponry +3 to current skill level - current level is whatever would be reasonable.
4/4 modern weaponry
4/4 future weaponry
3/3 blacksmith
2/2 survivalist

Hearing Stella's suggestion through Jack, "Sorry, no can do," Magehammer explains, "Fur is too chaotic. Feathery wings, I could do. Order Dragons are smooth, black and clean. Have you ever heard of 'How to Train Your Dragon'? I could make you look like that."

Keep your cursed furry nonsense away from my dragon.

As to changing shapes however, it would be good to learn to change how I look in case I end up in another world where my appearance is liable to get me killed. Or at least refine the magic I already know, I suppose I probably know Disguise Self or Alter Self.

Sounds good for the weapon training and all that, though if he had anything else he'd suggest that I learn I wouldn't disagree.

Magehammer wouldn't teach you how to change shape - too complicated with the magics he specializes in.
I'm going to say a student like Jack would have 4/4 Classic weaponry so here's the results:

7/7 classic weaponry
4/4 modern weaponry
4/4 future weaponry
3/3 blacksmith
2/2 survivalist

Magehammer would like this because it allows you to survive most places without needing to rely on magic which always has a chance (however small) of killing you or everyone around you.

If this is good, we'll be ready to move on

quote:
“What do you get out of all of this, Mr. Magehammer?” he asks.

"In countless verses, I've come to learn that indigs are a dime a dozen. Kill 'em in this verse, save 'em in the next, torture them here set them free there, in the end it doesn't seem to make much difference.

"There's one guy who believes he's in a military training VR simulation and he's been trying to convince them to let him out by killing every single 'simulated' organism he sees. The poor guy is nuts. I've managed to convince him I'm one of the goodguys, stuck in the simulation with him. That took me 6 years to accomplish. Since he only let me live on average 50 minutes at a time, it took too many random chance meetings to count before that. Now, if he shows up, I 'help him get closer to the exit'. I hear he's usually calm for a few verses after that before he goes nuts again.

"This time we met, I'm way more powerful than you. Next time might be the first time I versed - it's long enough ago, I couldn't be sure. Or it might be after you've versed millions of more times and just my very next verse. Today you, tomorrow me."

Magehammer shows Jack around the mansion in his pocket dimension which has its own populated forest for training survivalist skills, a farm, a weapons range, and a forge among other amenities. He gives Jack the following basic weapons kit:
-handgun
-rifle
-automatic
-5 explosives
-phaser
-nano-swarm
If you have a favorite model of any of these, you can specify - otherwise we can leave it generic.

Magehammer introduces Jack to the townfolk of Toonland and explains that he isn't there to steal their daughters or their gold. They calm down and get used to him, even visiting him at his horde in the mountain where Magehammer the bear guides Dragon Jack in the intricacies of Order Magic.

Mr Magehammer is a hardass. He means well, but he's opinionated and in his mind he's always right, even when no one else realizes it. At times he seems verbally abusive, but he never intends to be. He wants to push Jack to his limits, and hopes that Jack will come to appreciate it in time, even if he gets upset for a few lifetimes.

Magehammer teaches Jack that it makes magic easier when you use a consistent ritual which can consist of spoken words, gestures and/or special items. The more of these are used, the greater the chance of success ((the more you describe, the better the buffs - that said, you only need to describe the ritual once, then I'll assume you repeat it unless time constraints prevent it)).

For 30 years they work together, and develop a kind of friendship dependent on Jack's ability to tolerate abuse. Really they work together for 20 years, and 10 of those 30 years are periods when Magehammer is avoiding Jack or everybody for a variety of reasons including special projects, time to go down the rabbit hole of psychosis, dealing with past traumas through various medication, pouting, reminiscing about Samantha AKA Sambina, training himself through practice in his pocket dimension, and more.

((This may be your last chance to interact with Magehammer))
