Glitch 1.1

Glitch wakes up to the sound of rats saying, "The god!" "It lives!" and various other things whispered in awe. She opens her eyes and sees brown rats with 6 limbs and opposable thumbs who are the size of dogs staring at her. She is in a deep valley with unbelievably tall mountain ranges boardering a long thin Valley which curves up in the distance - she's on the inner curve of a ring-world. The stratospherically tall mountains rim the ring on either side - likely as a barrier to keep the atmosphere from escaping over the edge.

One of the first things she notices is that her spiritual connections and everything spiritual seems distant and nearly inaccessible. Only the Blood still calls clearly.

In the distance, a giant black Crow with a white feather in one of its 4 legs is flying toward the gathering of Ratfolk.

Glitch 1.1

She groaned, the weaver was suffocating here... the walls she erected where so thick she almost felt separated from herself. She doughted the tricks she pulled in the last world would work here, her gifts would only work as she learned them, she was sure. She wasn't even sure if she could jurry rig like this.....  She made a sour face at it. She looked at the nature and the animals and was happy to least see some wyld and wondered if the forms where birthed from chaos or different laws of the weaver.... however she didn't need her senses to tell her this wyld was caged by the weaver the sky itself told her that much.  The wyld did not make mountains into neat little walls in the perfect place to keep atmosphere in.... and coming to a stop at two perfect circles?  It looked like some one took an inner planet it chopped a segment out of it then surred up walls of stone.

She looked to the rat as she rose. "We are no god...we serve Rat. This is a woven world It should be unwoven!! Is that really our place? There are other ways to find balance She is right the Wyld can claim this world and restore balance... We would have to weaken the weavers hold, thin part of the wall between the spirit world..... Tell us where are we?"

For now she ignored the Crow... the Crow where 'allies' to the rat, it was because of them any of there kind survived the war. Crow warned them of the ambush and about the war, to late to save the storytellers but enough to save there kind.  Though how much could you really trust a crow? They never shut up, so you couldn't trust them with anything.... and who really knows if helping rats was there intention or if they just couldn't keep the secret. >.>

Glitch 1.1

One of the six legged Ratfolk replies, "But you were not here, then you were. Just like the gods, you appeared. And you are a god in our appearance. We hope, therefore, that you are a good god, and not an evil god."

One of the others warns, "A crow comes!"

They begin to scatter for shelter, just when a bright beam of white light surges from the large white feather in the crows claw. Every Ratfolk that was caught in the beam of light, including Glitch, begins to suffer an extreme agony. The crow lands on the top of a nearby tree, and the light from the feather stops. The crow speaks through the feather, and says, "Rats! You know it is forbidden for you to gather during sky bright hours. This is your fourth incursion. Tonight you will receive no heat."

A mother Ratfolk named Anna cries out, "My pups!"

The crow turns it's head to Anna, "Fine, no heat for the next week. Now SCATTER!"

The 4 legged crow with wings takes off from the branch, sending a beam of light randomly around to each of the Ratfolk within its view including Glitch from time to time. Every time the beam of light falls on one of the Ratfolk, they fall down and agony for a few seconds. And the crow vanishes in a flash of light.

The Ratfolk scatter, a few hiding in a certain home in the ground, the rest scavenging for food.

She skitters up the highest point she can find trying to get a view of the surroundings and to see if she can find where the crow disappeared to.... if it might have gone some where in sight. Then moved down to follow the rats. "How dose this crow steal your heat and why? Why do they scatter you in the day?"

Glitch 1.1

Glitch saw no indication of where the crow flew.

She checks her abilities, and anything spiritual or magical is REALLY hard, though with enough buffs like complicated step by step often repeated rituals combined with special objects and special words, who knows what could happen. Fortunately Slotter told her about that little trick to make magics easier. ((I'll explain more of you need it, but bonus points if you just go ahead and try it))

Anything Somatic, Mental, Physical or Psychic is fairly normal.

She can shape shift to and from her normal shapes, and her clothes and gear tied to her will shift with her. No nudity needed.

She can access her things in the toolbelt, but they are hard to find and take extra time to retrieve.

Any skill unmarked with one of the categories is probably possible though it might be tougher.

quote:
"How dose this crow steal your heat and why? Why do they scatter you in the day?"

Glitch is talking with Bites Wood. She responds to the first question by pointing up. Just about then, streams of white light flow from the source of light toward the mountains, and the source of light directly overhead goes dark. The points where the light was drawn towards shine brightly, but not enough to warm up the ground. Within seconds, the air chills and the ground cools with it.

To the second question, Bites says, "Who knows why the gods do as they do. Who are we to question them?"

Within about 15 minutes, snow starts falling, and soon after that it's too cold to snow. Glitch can hear Anna and her pups crying... weakly.

Glitch 1.1

Quickly dose what she can to close up the entrance to the outside.... then gathers up what she needs into shelter to start a fire, using a small amount of her electricity to ignight it.... if she has to she will cut fur/hair off herself and others to get some fire going.... anything to get SOME flame for the rats to gather around.

She herself activates the survival gift that will let her endure these temperatures so she can leave the warmth of the flames, to gather flammable material to throw on it and work on reinforcing a rite of cardboard palace.

Pulling pieces of cardboard out of her to act as makeshift totems/fetishes to place along the walls to support the ritual. Using duck tape to ritualisticaly 'seal' the outside away.

The rite of the cardboard palace was a simple rite but even gathering all the rats together it would likely be a larger area than it was meant to be used on  (like a small building/large home at max)..... and the laws of the weaver here where very very very much agents her.  But if she could even get a FRACTION of it's power she could save them from this crule fate. It didn't need to be comfertable and safe here..... just survivable.... and she would work in the brutal cold even if the power that protected her from the exstream cold was not working as it should, she could heal some frost bite, not all of them could. She worked the ritual again and again and again and again until it took. The weaver may not like her magic but it did like ritual, it liked dogma, and it really liked repetition.

The whole time she griped and chittered to herself.... talking about various things most would go over the rats head.... though they might understand she said things that implyed there world may be dying and the crows where detecting what heat was left to places it was needed.... they made (curse-words they wouldn't understand) laws for excuses to take the heat away.

Basicaly as she theorized to herself the power that powered the world was failing and they where flicking the bakers on and off to keep it spinning.

Glitch 1.1

The cardboard palace is built, and with the fire inside, it is quite cozy. The Ratfolk gather to warm themselves inside while Glitch works away. Even though they are gathering in the warmth, they are tentative and frightened, shivering as much from fear as from cold. If asked, they'll just say, "The gods won't like this."

When in a bind, rats will recycle proteins from their fallen comrades. Such is happening with the Ratfolk.

While she's shoring up the Cardboard Palace, one of the bright lights on a nearby mountaintop blinks out, and simultaneously the area around is lit up brightly from above. The flow of light energy being siphoned off of the source of light above stops, and the whole area warms a little as dim light shines on everything from the source of light above. But the bright light is coming from the white feather in a 4 legged crow's claw. The crow caws, "I thought I told you no warmth! Very well, then. You may have warmth for a few minutes."

The feather brightens a moment, and a sudden explosion blasts from below the cardboard palace, sending rock shrapnel into Glitch and the nearby Ratfolk. The cardboard palace erupts in magical Chaos flames as the crow laugh-caws from above. After a few minutes of the palace burning, the crow will draw the chaos energy away from the flames and debris to return the cardboard that remains to its original un-constructed flat and unfolded form, and the tape will return to being a roll of tape.

"That's enough warmth for you lot!"

She TRIES to use backbite to get up on the bird, and sticky paws to take the feather and stab it some where vital with the quill of it.

Failing that she will hit it with her death ray.

She is pissed at this thing.

Glitch 1.1

Glitch puts everything she has into the attack, and it's pathetic, but functional. Instead of slipping into the spiritual dimension, she feels an incredible burst of adrenaline and finds herself jumping ridiculously high - high enough to take the crow by surprise. She deftly snatches the feather from the crow before the crow realizes what has happened, and stabs it in the neck. Her rage flows through the feather and an explosive stream of heat and fire spills out of the quill, launching the crow's head hundreds of yards away. The Ratfolk named Fast Foot runs after the head to retrieve it.

*New skill Chaos Fire*

She and the limp body of the crow land on the midst of the Ratfolk

Gleeful says, "The god is dead! Glitch has brought us fire!"

The Ratfolk rejoice at the news and celebrate. Shaman hushes them, "The other gods will know. They will come for the feather. We must protect The heat and keep it hidden. There is only one way..."

Anna finishes the sentence, "we must all eat it. Please, first heal my babies, god Glitch, Firebringer. The feather will return warmth to their bodies and remove the chaos from their wounds."

She nods trusting this rat. "We would not bring a war to your famely.... though we would take one to them who think to hold life and death over others unjustly." she shares the father with the rats. If there is any bit left she will eat some too if it is untainted.

She also helps then consume the crow.

She looks around for any other signs of civilization besides the towers while outside. She would likely need some weapons and stuff to build with.

Glitch 1.1

The Ratfolk and Glitch all consume a small portion of the Chaos Feather. The first thing they notice is that they feel warmer, and it's no longer too cold for them to survive. Next, a Ratfolk named Shaman of the Source begins chanting, dancing and rattling some bones, circling around some of the debris left over from the palace. After 13 minutes, the debris sparks into a steady flame.

Glitch notices that she can sense intense Chaos around her - the scene of the murder, the space where she killed the crow, the fire, sharp points on trees, her own white fur, and especially the remaining points of light on the tips of the mountains.

There are a few buildings near the mountains - little cottages. It looks like the foundations of much larger buildings remain in places, having left behind squarish impressions in the ground that have been covered over and weathered for hundreds or thousands of years. Nothing but mostly inedible vegetation and wood around here. Most of the trees are dead, too.

Hours go by unhindered, then the flow of Chaos from the Source to the lights (which she has figured out are the other crows), slows and stops, and the crows disappear from their place on top of the mountains to who-knows-where. The light (and supremely intense Chaos) from the Source returns.

Moments later 12 Crows, each with white feathers appear hovering far above. One screeches, "Murderers! Thieves! Who killed our sister?! Who stole the Feather of the Source?! You will suffer for your crime!"

Well this was not going well.

Well she keep using it by accident so she used it intentionally, leap of the kangaroo, the gift that lets her jump many times higher and feather than she should be able to... she leap up and tried to steal another feather while kicking the crows into each other.

Ether way she used BOLT! and ran... ran like hell pumping as much rage as she could as she droped to all fours with the feather in her mouth and sprinting using her skills at dodging and avoiding attacks to flee and try and lead the crows away from the rats, hoping to head to one of the ruins of larger buildings..... maybe there was basements or underground facilities with something that could help her.

*Roll & advance*

Well, an attempt was made. She did jump 3 times higher than normal, but fell far short of reaching her target - except that she did attract the attention of all 12 black feathered crows who were each carrying a single white feather ((wanted to clarify that)).

quote:
Ether way she used BOLT! and ran... ran like hell pumping as much rage as she could

*Rolls*
She tried. She tried hard. But it just wasn't good enough. Even a very fast rat would find light difficult to outrun.

One of the crows used their Chaos Feather to put Glitch in unbearable agony to immobilize her.
*Roll*
The next used a Chaos Mind Attack against her psyche, but the resistance of an entire colony of rats was just too much for that crow to overcome.

The next pumped non-heat Chaos into the stone Glitch was writhing in agony on, causing it to be reduced to a fine sand. Glitch sank into the sand, up to her knees laying on her back and with her elbows beneath the sand - then the crow reversed the polarity, removing the Chaos from the sand to create sandstone and trapping Glitch in stone so that she was unable to move anything but her fingers and face.

Once immobilized, they turned off the Chaos agony ray and stood around her. She could speak now. Chaos from the feathers went out in lightning strike pattern, following an edge around Glitch about 5' away from her. Then together they teleported her into the ruined basement of some random foundation.

The room had a number of items Glitch may have recognized - a broken teleporter, broken food replicator, broken computer console, broken nannite repair table and various other remnants of post-scarcity Galactic civilization.

She gave herself time to recover regardless of what happened.

She hoped she was abandoned here to die, or they would argue on what to do with her for a long time.

Ether way she shifted into her rat form and shrunk down to free herself crawling out of the stone, and into the computer system to see if it could be repaired.... that and she could hide away inside if they showed back up... pulling the panels back in place like she had simply vanished.

If she could get these machines online it would help her out a lot.

She also took note to see if there was any other people encased in stone down here.

And she would need it. Before they left her alone, one of them said, "You were being controlled with pain, so you didn't hear your sentence. For killing our sister, you will be blinded - your eyes will be plucked out and eaten. For stealing the Feather of the Source, your liver will be consumed and regrown. Every time it grows back, we will eat it again."

Having finished speaking, the crow pecks out her left eye in two pecks. Then it sends Chaos to the tips of its talons which makes them atomically sharp. It claws an incision in Glitch's side and cuts out her liver, slicing it into 3 smaller parts. It removes a little Chaos from the incision which heals the cut but leaves her liver still damaged. 3 crows slowly eat their portion for her to see with her one remaining eye. When finished, the first crow eats her right eye.

The crows all caw with laughter for a few moments before disappearing.

quote:

She is freed.

The machines are missing power sources, but that's about it. Except the teleporter - that's missing the buffer matrix and targeting circuitry, so it would be dangerous to use.

She had at least a day before they would be back... Her eyes would grow back rather quickly but what they did to her liver would take time to heal and they likely knew that..... and if they didn't they would be even longer.

She started by gnawing away at the dirt under the computer so the hole couldn't be seen, first to see if there was a level underneath... and then if not to dig out a space under it and the nanite repair console. She would wire them together and use her electricy to power them. If there any nanites left or she can get any of her's up and running she will try and use the computer as a control system to build a power system in the floor bellow or the dug out space she made.

Given this will take some time as ether way.... once her liver is nearly healed she will crawl back into the stone and slowly shift back into the way she was.

Likely needing to make a metal/willpower roll.... as this will be AGONIZING.

She can't perfectly slide back into place so not only will her bones and body be stretching painfully into a new form but her skin will be scraping and dragging across the stone as it slides into place.

Thankfully this will just look like she has been struggling to get out.

Glitch 1.1

The moment Glitch returns to form, a flash of light brightens the room and a crow arrives. It hops over to Glitch and draws the Chaos out of her side, restoring her liver to full health. Then it notices her eyes. "CAAH! It grew its eyes back! Oh, no it doesn't!"

The crow adds Chaos to its beak sharpening it, then removes Chaos hardening the beak, then adds Chaos to the water on its beak, turning the water to a harsh acid, then adds more Chaos to the acid to make it magically damaging. Then the crow slowly and carefully, in no less than 20 nibbles, eats her eyes out.

Once finished her eyes, it did the same to her side to gain access to her liver which it proceeds to eat. Once finished her liver, it leaves without healing up the hole.

On a flash of light the crow disappears.

Suddenly Glitch feels a Scriff vector far far above her head. Almost immediately it feels no more than 100 ft above her head.

Once she gets back out, the first thing she noticed is that the wires and devices she was working on are experiencing the effects of rapid entropy. In fact, there are nannites in the room, and they are fighting that entropy with all their effort.

This will likely go on for a few days, with the crows coming at random intervals, and Rat warning Glitch before each visit.

Lays there bleeding till the bleeding stops when it don't heal her wound before going to work. She works quickly to build some sort of power supply before she uses up the power she had stored inside her. She could ignore the pain but didn't dare as she was worried they would do worse if they didn't see her suffer. Her ability to sense weaver/order was weaker here but she didn't need eyes to use it and used it and her hands to work the machines... perhaps her spiritual senses would get stronger here in this place they where so weak.

She thanks rat for the warnings as she gets them.

The targeted entropy was... interesting and she figured the work of the feathers, working to brake down anything they didn't like or understand. Hopefully inside her pouch and the nanites in her body they would be protected.

She would see what she could do with the teleporter. Perhaps if she could use make a simple targeting device and use her nanites and scriff to work with it. She couldn't do a scan of anything but if she targeted a pocket of open air that had room for her near the concentration of scriff that her scriff was attracted to...... maybe?

Least she would get out of here.... worst case she would catch crows off guard, though she didn't think they would treat any other invaders to there realm with as much care as her.

She could try and include a return function just in case.

The first time she succeeds and build the power supply, her internal supply has dwindled to the last drop and she won't have enough to try again. Then she's warned to get to the stone before she can turn it on and use it to recharge. When the crow arrives, from her heightened senses, she can tell it is looking through the feather as it says, "What is this extra Chaos running through Ordered pathways?! Mine!" And without moving from where it is, it drains the power from the power supply and causes it to go inert and short out in the process. "Yummy Chaos!"

But the next time she looks at the equipment, the local nannites have repaired it - noting the presence of an ally against the unbalanced entropy, the nannites have chosen to aid Glitch's efforts.

In fact they were improved by being blind. Unfortunately her body wasn't prepared for the effects, and though she might have recovered from the loss of her eyes before, having recieved permanent Sense Wyld/Weaver/Wyrm sight, her body gave up trying to regrow her eyes. When he talks of the cleansing ritual she says she is not sure it will work here, as the ritual takes you into the spirit realm and that would be very hard here, but the border mountains here would be a good match if he could pierce over into the spirit world, and the rite may be able to remove the scriff in his body if he can survive it.

*Roll & advance*

Her effort to heal herself results in the scars in her eye-sockets deepening, however, she gets the feeling that this may work in another Verse.

Slotter already healed her liver, and he gives her the eyes.

When she puts the eyes in her sockets and Slotter configured them for her, she sees that the room is in an even worse state of entropy than when she first arrived. The entropy feels like it's related to the excess Chaos energy the crows are throwing around.

quote:
When Rat warns her she tells him "We must leave, now."

Slotter nods and pulls a grey sheet from his backpack and throws it over the two of them, explaining in whispers, "These crows can see with Chaos vision when they look through the feathers, which is similar to Order vision when I look through my Order knife. Just hiding in a hole won't keep us safe, since they'll be able to see the Order and Chaos in us and in the trail we leave behind. If we teleport with my Order Knife, like I did from the opposite side of this Ring world, they'll see the line of Order pointing right to where we teleport to, (also since spiritual powers are all but useless here we can't use the Ways), so we'll have to go by foot wherever we go. I picked up this blanket when I needed to hide from Magehammer, because it cloaks us from magical perception as well as physical perception - only spiritual perception could still see us under this cloak."

Just as he finished explaining, 6 of the crows teleport into the room in a flash of light, "Cargh, where did it go? I missed my liver breakfast!"

"No doubt the Weilder of Order freed it."

Looking through its feather, "Then where did they go? Where is their trail? They did not simply vanish. The ancient ones left, they should not return with Order to bring their rules with them. We are the heirs of the Source."

"Siblings, we are not flying rats, we have wisdom to do better than complain. Come, the Murder is meeting in a few minutes, we must tell them of its escape. Together we'll decide what must be done."

"All of you should meditate more when you feed. At the top of the world, we create the night by satisfying our hunger in our sleep, and wherever we go we permit the day by our fasting. Ours is the charge to rule with wisdom. The thief of fire and life will suffer for its crimes, Source will see to it. So shall it be!"

"So shall it be!" the rest agree in unison.

Then they leave in a flash of light.

Slotter leaves the blanket over Glitch and himself, "Will you lead me in the cleansing ritual up to the top of the mountains, where the crows sleep? Either way, let's get out of this collapsing basement."

She nods some "You have an extra knife?"

She nodded some. "We are not sure it will be safe while the crows are looking for us, but maybe while they sleep...."

Well she learned something, these creatures where causing the deadly cold by feeding on the sorce of heat and chaos here. Entropy was trying fix things and restore balance...

She reminds him the ritual means leaving your stuff behind for the ritual to work, so if they don't defeat the crows it will have to be when they are all asleep. Though he could likely wrap up all his stuff in the cloak and they wouldn't find it if they woke.

"Well, no but I can let you have this one." He hands the Order knife over to Glitch, but it burns her hand to be near worse than you'd expect cursed Silver to burn. "Huh... Never seen that happen before. I guess I'll have to keep it."

quote:
the ritual means leaving your stuff behind for the ritual to work,

"Yeah, my little guide told me I'd have to give up all my stuff." He takes the backpack off his shoulders and hands it to Glitch. It's got the same basic universality that most Versers use, so she'll be able to retrieve her stuff even in places her toolbelt wouldn't work. "I don't have nearly as much as I had when we first met, but what I have is yours. I'm certain we're supposed to take this blanket. It doesn't protect from the elements. It actually causes wind to blow right through you."

quote:
if they don't defeat the crows it will have to be when they are all asleep

By using the cloak, they'll be able to scale the mountain without great fear of being found. Even if they lose the blanket, though, the storms that happen every night, (gale force winds rushing down the mountainside, carrying supercooled air from the highest parts of the atmosphere) are so full of Order mixed with Chaos that the crows wouldn't be able to see them through the feathers.

He follows her lead in the ritual in all other ways, and he won't give up for any reason.

She wonders if it has to do with the fact she ate that feather as it didn't bother her before that and they are clearly fairly opposing forces. When they get to the winds that conseal them more she tries to use the somic/spiritual power of purge toxin to get the feather out of her body. This removes invasive matter the quickest way possable... which should be going to the bathroom at this point... or sweating it out if it's permeating her body. If she can get it out she will try and reshape it into a bracelet or something she can wear instead to see if that helps. She will use the power of the feather to help remove it if she has or if it will help.

If it won't work she will just make a note to try later.

She has never had an inversion to order like that before after all she manipulates weaver spirits all the time.

She will just wrap the knife up if she can't get a way to touch it otherwise.

"If the spirits of this place do not send you strait home, return and we will return your stuff." She will act as his guide help reinforcing the ritual, help guiding him through it but reminds him that she can not help him in any other way or heal him.... and she can not go with him when he passes through into the spirit realm but she will wait for his return till the spirits tell her of his fate or he returns.

((Do write out as much of the ritual as you can, I'll fill in the gaps afterward.))

Taking the Order knife, Slotter removes the Order Nail and hands the knife without the nail to Glitch. No problem. Then he tosses the nail at her, and she snatches it out of the air like she's a magnet for it. As soon as it touches her aura, electricity from her leaps out to the nail which flashes white and reforms. Instead of being a Black Order Iron cylindrical nail, it has become a White Chaos Iron triangular nail. It feels far less powerful than the feather was, though.

She talks to herself a moment before responding. "This is not wyld/weaver... choas/order of other kind... they do not work together in any way do they?" Her ears twitch a little "This is bad for the balance...."  She puts the white nail into the knife.

The ritual was a simple one they climbed the mountain into the snow and chilling winds. When they where high up above the snow level Slotter would strip himself of all his equipment and all that protected him from the winds. Then they would meditate and cry out to the spirits calling that they have fallen and seek the harsh judgment of the mountain and are prepared to face what ever that judgment may be no matter how harsh it may be. If the mountain accepts them a blizzard will descend on them, one so thick it blocks out all vision of there soundings as a passage into the spirit of the mountain opens up. Slotter then must push forward into the harsh winds... continuing into the winds till they clear up or he parishes. If he cleansed the mountain will judge him pure and the winds will give way and he will find himself at the peak of the spirit mountain, likely to gain a boon from the spirit there for facing such a trial. If his taint is to great it will likely kill him but he will still be cleansed as the wind strips the flesh from his body and leaves him a frozen husk on the mountain side. But he will pass on to the next world pure.....  maybe quite literally because of the scriff but she doubts the mountain will allow that once he commits to this. It is a deadly ritual for heavily tainted fera to try, let alone a human. However the spirits will look well on such bravery and reward it.

Glitch 1.1

The snow on the mountains began only a few hundred feet up. The mountains were about 50 miles high, so it would be about 10 days to reach the summit. They stopped after the third day, being almost a third of the way to the top. Glitch was finding that she was able to withstand the cold better than normal.

Slotter cried out as instructed, being sincerely penitent, and the blizzard to end all blizzards began to buffet and blow against him. Neither of them can tell if a passage to the Spirit realm has opened it not, but they both continue.

Blunt blades of hail barrage Slotter, tearing at his frost-bitten skin down to the bone, but Slotter keeps moving forward. The hail flies faster flagellating Slotter's unprotected body. Within a few hours, most of his flesh has been torn away while his Somatic healing ability desperately fights to keep him alive. He keeps going even when all his musculature has been stripped away, his movement powered by cybernetic implants.

Then they see, stretched out before Slotter, a vision of a million Slotters trekking up the mountain for a million years, and a booming deep female voice pronounces, "Even if you climbed for Eons, you would owe more for what you have done. For Eons you have been an intervention of mass murder."

Something breaks in Slotter's mind - something stubborn and tainted. He sees what he has done. He understands the pain he has caused. In desperation, he falls to his bone knees sobbing through eyes without eyelids, "I know... There's nothing I can do to fix it. If I agree to never go home, can my wrongs be undone? I'll do anything!"

The winds die down, and a giant skeleton the size of the mountain reaches down and takes Slotter's invisibility blanket and extracts metals from the mountain in one motion. It squeezes its first, and places a dark cloak on Slotter's shoulders, and hands him a scythe. The skeleton picked up Slotter and throws him. His Scriff vector vanishes.

Then it looks to Glitch, "You have been cleansed, what is your intention?"

She is a little supersized by all this not expecting this outcome, though she's never done this before. Though she was fairly sure she wouldn't revise any benefit just being a guide and not taking part...after all she was protected from the winds. She looks up at the figure trying to tell what kinda spirit it is while asking it. "Will he find his way home?" knowing some spirits will hold one to such pledges while others will take such pledges alone as enough. As for her....  "I will return to stop the crows from hurting people, try and restore balance to that place."

Not entirely - she still experienced a hefty amount of cleansing wind. But, being a guide has benefits of its own.

quote:
trying to tell what kinda spirit it is

It's the spirit of the planet. Apparently, with the single mountain range running the entire length of the ringworld (which is constructed as a Mobius strip, and which she can see the shape of from this place in the Spirit Realm), the Spirit of the mountain is also the Spirit of the Ringworld. It is exceptionally Order oriented, and feels almost dead, even though it is more powerful than Gaia would be. It can't be said to be evil, but it probably wouldn't have a problem causing mass extinction either. One could call it good, but not by ego-biased standards.

quote:
"Will he find his way home?"

She answers, "He is already home, though he can never go back. Once he understood what he had done, his mental dam against the guilt for his actions broke, and he was able to know his guilt and express it. Acknowledging the truth by his own volition was all he needed to do. Nothing short of this ritual could have succeeded. But his life is not finished and his karma debt must be paid. So he has been assigned as an angel of death. His first collection will be his wife, then his children."

quote:
will return to stop the crows from hurting people, try and restore balance to that place."

"Balance will be restored when the crows no longer bring night. Being of Ordered Chaos, bring Chaos or bring Order. The choice is yours. The balance will be restored either way."

The giant skeleton planet-god vanishes behind the constellations, and Glitch find herself at the top of the mountain with Slotter's backpack.

She is only a few yards from a crow's nest and can see inside. The nest is an observatory covered by a clear glass dome. Inside the dome there are fruit trees, vegetables, a fresh water stream, and a large nest of branches and twigs sitting on top of a collection of computer consoles. The Chaos Feather drawing in Chaos from the Source and is sitting in a super bright white fruit tree which is emitting its own light. The tree has many small white fruit, and one very bright larger fruit. There's no door in the glass.

Being on top of the mountain, she can see the other side - the outer rim of the ringworld is a space station. But there are no lights and only a few old-looking small ships.

(well that depends on what kinda machines power this place and run it and if she can get them online when she gets out to the space station. Also how powerfull the fruit is.  One idea is, if the ring world has some way if interacting with the black hole, injecting the fruit into it and powering up the means of interacting with it.... altering it to turn the ring into a ritual circle and shift the black hole into a spirital rift drawing a wyld realm or powerful wyld spirit through. ....   end up creating something like the eye in 40k uncorupted and just spilling out life and nature in it's chaotic rawness. It if the spirit is that weak it would likely trasform/rebirth it or kill it and cause a new one to be born. Down side is the stuff living there would have a hard time living under the sorts of radiation coming out of it... so while a lot would addapt a lot would die out too.   On the good side a LLLLLLOOOOOOTTTTT  of life would spring up over the ring world and the univurse would have a beachhead for spirits and spiritual energy)

"We may be able to bring back life... if not your own, another to take your place....  Many may die, many more would be born and balance would come to your world at least...."  She wasn't sure it even wanted this as not all spirits wanted balance in things after all.

She would try and act quickly to use steal the feather, and use it and the chaos knife to kill the crow. Then she would pull the concealing cloak around herself and try and make her way down into the space station.

If it looks safe and her blood isn't screaming that it's a bad idea.... she will wrap something up around the largest fruit and steal it too before sneaking off.

No invisibility blanket left for Glitch to use, but she gets the idea to use the Chaos knife for Chaos Invisibility - although that wouldn't hide her from the crows.
quote:
shift the black hole

((What black hole?))
Thinking about the Source, she looks at it and for the first time can see it more clearly now that there's hardly any atmosphere between it and her - it is a star sized Chaos Pheonix.

quote:
She would try and act quickly to use steal the feather, and use it and the chaos knife to kill the crow

*Rolling for intelligence*
Fortunately she's smart enough to realize she has to get through the glass before she can do anything, so she uses the Chaos knife to add Chaos to the glass, causing it to crack, turn opaque and finally turn to fine sand.

Then the feather is too high to reach from the ground - how will she get to it?

EDIT: The Spirit is ambivalent about the idea either way

EDIT 2: This fight scene has a few potential surprises, or it could be over fast.

Where is the sorce, and whats a chaos pheonix?  Just a big bird made of chaos energy?

What dose she see when she looks at the tree/fruit with her spirit sight... same with the phoenix.

Just need a better general idea whats going on....

Also are there space stations at the other towers the crows are sleeping at?

Glitch 1.1

It's reasonable to suppose Glitch picked up on all of the following in the Spirit Realm.

Originally the Mobius ringworld slowly rotated around its star to provide the whole length (both sides) with an equal amount of daytime and nighttime. The single 50+ mile high mountain range ran the entire length (both sides, top and bottom) and the whole single edge (left and right) was one long space port where ships could dock etc.

Things happened, and now the ringworld no longer rotates, and is provided with heat on the one exposed section by the minor Chaos god, the star sized Chaos Phoenix. The Phoenix is the Source.

Glitch sees a tree full of Chaos and Wyld energy, full of potential. The Phoenix is the embodiment of a minor god of Wyld and Chaos.

Since she looked through the Chaos knife, she also sees a clutch of eggs under the sleeping crow.

The section with the rats is in the light. Every"night" the crows return to their nests in the domes on top of the mountain range, at different points spread out along the range. There are more domes than crows, but each dome with a crow also has a Chaos Feather - each crow places their Chaos Feather on/in their tree, and the tree sets about drawing the Chaos energy out of the Chaos Phoenix. The combination of all 13 (now 12) Chaos Feathers absorbing Chaos from the Phoenix, causes the light and heat generated by that Chaos to be darkened until the feathers are all retrieved by the crows, shutting off the power drain. Once the Feathers are no longer in the trees, the light and heat from the Chaos Phoenix returns.

The ringworld was set up in segments which are each identical to eachother, "top" and "bottom", side to side. There is no single Central organizing location. The machinery has been inactive and dead for hundreds of millions of years. More history will be revealed later.

What happens to planets that are tidally locked with their stars when they're as close to their star as we are to Sol? One side cooks while the other side freezes. The ringworld is essentially one long tidally locked planet. Life might be able to subsist in the twilight zone.

For a reminder, Glitch is in the dome, the crow is sleeping on the nest of eggs, the Chaos Feather is in the tree, too high to reach from the ground.

If the crow starts to wake she will use leap of the kangaro to grab the feather, and try and land near the eggs as she is quite sure the crow won't attack if she's got the eggs.... there still 12 crows and it would be a pain to fight them all. Maybe it's not to late to talk to them.

*roll and learn Chaos Teleport*
Ignoring the hole she just created in the glass since it was unstable and too small anyway, Glitch turns into a ball of light and feels like she is everywhere in the universe, perceived from where she was. Everything seems motionless as she moves ((she's moving at the speed of light)) straight through the glass, passing through without feeling it. She materializes in a flash of light on the other side, stirring the crow, but not waking it.

*Rolls & learn Chaos Degrade/repair/repurpose*

Being a Shaman of Spark Steel and Rust, an engineer, and a child of Rat, Glitch has a special intuition for machinery and is very adept at removing the Chaos from the nearby computer systems and channeling it into the fruit (and a little for herself).

As the balance of Chaos infusing the fruit alters, the tree begins to shake and jingle like tiny bells. This wakes the crow. But before the crow can react, Glitch jumps for the Chaos Feather

*Roll*
She's easily able to grab the Feather and land right by the crow and is eggs.

The crow, now wide awake and enraged, filled with protective fear, defiantly squawks, "So, the murderer comes to steal Feather of the Source and kill me and my babies as well? At least tell me why! Why has your kind been so intent on our extinction? Have you not exterminated enough, that you have to wipe out everything not Rat? What crime are you repaying?" She is shaking with Chaotic rage-fear ((Hmm, she has an excess of emotional Chaos...))

She will use sense angst to see if the crow still has ill intent for her.... if she gets the sense this is a trick from it she will hold an egg in her tail (very carefully) letting it know she won't hurt the egg if it don't hurt her. However if she senses nothing she will just keep an eye on it.

She will do what she did to repair the holo-projector.

If she gets it up and running and a hologram appears she will ask it for a status report and what would need to be done to get the rotation started again. Also what would be needed to restore a stable ecology.... though she calls it 'death life food loop' so it might not understand what she meant if it is not programed for weird termology like that.

Glitch draws the Chaos from the entropic degradation of the holo-projector into the Feather and the Fruit on the tree. Some of the Chaos is absorbed by herself and most goes into the Fruit. She is able to repair the holo-projector completely, and a hologram comes to life in the room - an anthropomorphic dog with opposable thumbs appears and says, "Chrell nix tek mogalin? Vizroth mohebetan! 'Keiriek mi amaa'. Vmintache?"

But of course, Glitch happens to have the Feather on her wrist:

quote:
If she can get it out she will try and reshape it into a bracelet or something she can wear instead to see if that helps

While she wasn't paying attention, her colony-mind took over her fingers and completed the task she set for herself to do, creating a masterfully perfectly imperfect Chaos Feather Bracelet which they have taken the liberty of weaving into her wrist implant.

Therefore her implant automatically deciphers the language for her and she also hears simultaneously, "I'm not a broken computer anymore? Welcome to the Ringworld Vizroth!  Our favorite saying is 'live laugh and love'. How can I help you?"

quote:
she will ask it for a status report and what would need to be done to get the rotation started again

The system is telepathic.

"Status report:
Welcome Supreme Leader Glitch. The system recognizes your lifeform's intellectual superiority over all other lifeforms within one thousand galactic diameters.
Vizroth is in great disrepair.
Allow me to elaborate:
Hundreds of millions of years ago, the star that Vizroth was created around became no longer viable to sustain life at this orbital diameter, we lost our Goldilocks's Zone status. So due to galactic overpopulation, no other star was available, therefore Vizroth was sent into intergalactic space, and while leaving the Galaxy, all of our sentient inhabitants were evacuated. A few non-sentients, such as I was at the time, remained here. We were rodents, birds of prey, insects, and others who could retreat to the interior of the star-less Vizroth. Our power generator remained active and functional for about a hundred million years and provided heat and energy to keep the food replicators active as well as the rats, crows and a few other species alive. Eventually repairs began to fail and machines broke down, but by then, the rats and crows had become somewhat sentient. After all other species were hunted to extinction due to necessity of survival, the rats turned on their own and on the crows and began to hunt them and their eggs. Just when only a handful of crows and hundreds of thousands of rats remained alive, a minor Chaos god, the Chaos Phoenix discovered Vizroth in intergalactic space and discovered the state of imbalance its inhabitants were in. The Phoenix gave feathers to the crows and taught them to use them to protect themselves and suppress overpopulation among the rats to bring balance. The Phoenix meditated into a coma-like state so that the crows could have a source of Chaos energy to absorb and the broken-down Vizroth could continue to support life.

"Given the speed at which you were able to repair the processing units in this room, it would take 1 person 91.19 Trillion years to repair the station. It would take you and 11 others to repair the station in 7.6 trillion years. Or, given the potential of the lifeforms in and on the surface of Vizroth, if they all helped it would take about 13 days. Or, if all of the energy in the Phoenix were used up, it would take 1 second.

"As for restoring a stable ecology, I'm afraid I don't have the processing power to help you with that question."

Glitch 1.1

She thought on this. "So if rats and crows worked together... I show them how.... It could rotate again soon?" she thought on the overpopulation problems. "I should share my blood, spread the birthing plague. Rats wisdom would show them to control there numbers. The plauge would take it's numbers too as the weak would be culled by it. With Rats blessing you will have an engineer your own."

She explains to the crow what it is she is and what the brithing pluage would mean. That likely half or so she infects would die, and only 1/20th would become like her. So she would likely need to infect a large number to get an initial population of ratkin spread out and take charge of the rat populations.

She explains her vision was blinded when she first came here, only saw imbalance harsh treatment... she couldn't see that the crows people where keeping the rats population in check.  Though the crows punishment was unjust as she levied a death sentence them for gathering to aid an injured of another race and then slaughtered them because she had tried to save there lives.

The crow says, "We will take the birthing plague as well." The crow believes all of the other crows will want to be infected also.

Assuming she agrees to infect them and the Ratfolk, 3 of the 12 crows survives, and each of the crows has 13 eggs, leaving 73 surviving Ratkin Crow chicks in total. The crow will explain that they had been unable to incubate their eggs to completion because they compassionately kept the Chaos out of the shells, thereby preventing death or disease of the fetuses, but also providing such a safe and comfortable environment that most eggs had refused to hatch for thousands of years. The plague forced them to emerge, and their strength and wisdom gained from listening without jostling their brains for thousands of years and looking at the world through Chaos vision alone, has kept a greater number of them alive than might otherwise be expected.

120 trillion Ratfolk survive the plague to become Ratkin-folk, and in a week, there are 377 trillion of them. In 17 days, the world is back up and running, and the Ratkin-folk population is up to 1.3 quadrillion.

The birthing plague affects rats and humans it wouldn't afects crows, however she tells them ratkin will be born who are talented with medicen and friends with disease that could help stir the eggs in safer ways.

The only way she is able to spread the plague is with the ritual or biting or scratching.... and ratkin need humans or rats to mate with, if they mate with eachother the offspring is infertile.  So she she wouldn't try infecting them all and would need a powerful ritual to even try.

It would take a little longer but she would likely have to just infect one large gathering of rats and the ratkin that come out of it tell them what they need to do how to run a colony and send them out to spread out and infect and start up colonies of there own. Would take a little bit longer but would work all the same save the crow part.

I mean if you want to say they get some kinda mass ritual with the feathers to summon spirits to spread the plague and the crows are infected anyway that's fine. ^.^

She will find that realy odd, and just assume its rats will.

Ether way works just thought you should know what I was going to try and due because how it would normally work.

She will take one of the smaller fruits and cut it so each seed inside has some food on it and plant one of the chunks using the choas stored to make it grow quickly. After she sees what's grown she asks the hologram if doing this will help the ecology.

altering it to turn the ring into a ritual circle

She infects the whole lot in one go. with a giant ritual circle powered by one section of fruit. The crows are included. But the population stops growing at 1.3 Quadrillion. It is Rat's will. There are nearly 1000 Ratkin per Square Mile of surface area, but they are occupying huge amounts of 3 dimensional space throughout the Ringworld, so they are comfortable and not overcrowded.

*Roll & Learn Chaos Decay/heal/grow*
She shifts the flow of Chaos in the little seedling, removing some here, adding some there. The end result is that the seed grows into a small white Chaos fruit-tree within a few hours. If a Chaos Feather is placed in the tree, Chaos can be added to the tree to make it grow faster. But without the Feather, adding Chaos is dangerous to it.

It is an excellent method of dispersing excess Chaos energy that is building up.

The Phoenix is dimmer than it used to be. Now, instead of being drained on a specific schedule of night and day, the Phoenix is always being drained a little bit. Therefore it is like the entire planet is in a dim & warm environment - quite comfy.

Well now that things are looking better here she tells them they should not just care for there world but care for the source too, learn it's name, and see to it's needs as it has seen to there's. For what ever reason it saw there world and saved it... they should be thankful to it. Such great beings need such attentions to thrive, and surely there is more than praise it they can do for it.

She will check with the hologram to see if there is anymore she can do to help.

She will take one of the seeds, some of the flesh from the fruit, and one of wyrmite (except white, and she thought about not including red but thought otherwise as it seamed it could lead to imbalance.) and use the shaping to weave the growing seed as she makes it grow into a talisman holding the wyrmite pieces. She will then try and summon a cockroach spirit, a lesser totem avatar or incarnation if possable, to dwell in the talisman to give it power.

This will hopefully give some affect from the wyrmite, and let a talented engineer (rather rat or crow ratkin) who wares it to see the power and signals flowing through the wires and in the air here... and be able to communicate with the AIs the planet has from anywhere.

This should make anyone who takes charge of keeping things in order's job a lot easier.

She does all of this successfully.

Additionally, she feels the overwhelming urge to save some seeds and eat one of the oldest, purest and brightest of the fruits.

Once the thousands of years old Hatchlings become Ratkin-crows, they quickly become the most intelligent lifeform other than Glitch, and one of their kind becomes the default leader of the Ratkin-folk and Ratkin-crows. Having propagated through use of Chaos magic, they are all innately Chaos Magic wielders, and take to calling themselves the Chaos Rats of Vizroth or Vizrathian Ratkin.

The Vizrathians agree that they should make contact with the Phoenix and find out what it wants, so they carefully design a ritual to awaken the Phoenix. Everything goes perfectly, and the Phoenix awakens. The entire world and everything on it is obliterated in an instant.

Glitch finds herself floating in white-empty-space and a being of pure Chaos in the form of a sea urchin says, "Glitch, do you consent to being a Chaos Mage? You have proven your desire to maintain and restore balance. If you accept, you will have access to my unlimited magic and I may randomly ask you to do something you wouldn't want to refuse."

Is mournful to the world and searches her blood frantically to see what became of them. Hoping so many losing there lives had a purpose. Maybe this birthed a new, spiritual, realm for them to live in? Just hopes she did no destroy a celestial and all those on it for no reason.

Don't really mean to ignore the Urchin, is just frantic and in a form of rapture.

All of this is pre-known by the urchin. With the aid of the strength of Chaos, Spark, Rust and Rat, Glitch dives into the Blood and finds her children. The birthing plague she gave them through the ritual was somehow filled with her scriff. The Vizrathian Horde keeps finding itself in overpopulated galaxies, and spreads Plague and Chaos to bring back the Wyld of every Weave. The entire Horde is a Verser. The are part of the body of Rat - a shady part, but an honorable and balancing part of Rat.

Removing the Chaos from her Rapture state, the urchin calms Glitch down to pure awareness.

Her human side finds the idea of an horde of several million just popping into galaxies, flooding through them consuming them till the populations balance out, and then vanishing a slightly horrifying concept. But some times nature is just horrifying and some times salvation comes in devastation. One can just hope things never get so bad that natures solutions are never so exstream.... She would have hoped they found a more peaceful existence but they where rotting away on a dying world, now they have a purpose. Even if it is one that serves the wyrm more than the wyld.

The urchin becomes a white horse's rear end which speaks and says, "Cool, so is that a yes? I'm only interested in if you specifically will agree to wield Chaos magic as my mage." It transforms again into a giant silver fox's decapitated head with thousands of 2 foot long needle-thin fangs, and after Glitch's response, it painlessly bites her just once into thousands of torn and punctured bits.

She dies.
