Glitch in Jack's Dream
“Yes, that’s the common theory. You must be new. The ones who have been here the longest all think that this place takes copies of people like me, and as we struggle to get out, the whole thing learns. It exists only to learn. It neuters a lot of what it learns, but most of it is still available from the library,” the Succubus explains as she walks over to the Hollow Man and gives him a once over.
The Hollow Man is simply staring at a spot on the wall.
“Anyway, everyone tries to escape in some way. Tries to break the system, thinks they’ve got some big-brain play that nobody else in an infinite span of time has ever thought of, and then their big plan goes off and barely cause a ripple.”
She pauses as she tries to think of what else she can share, her personality doesn’t strike Glitch as the sort of person who usually provides the tutorial lesson. This is just a lark. Boredom driving her to it.
“Oh, eventually you’ll get out, according to some, it’s always the ones who have reached a level of introspection and humility who find their way out. You can tell because they’ll have shown up at a purple-time like this, and you can sort of feel their zen. Then they are gone soon after.”
