Re: OOC

Brinna (Martial trainer) -- Brinna, an amazon, not evil. Hirelings are available here at standard rates. Training available at a rate TBD.

Shrine of Molna  (Divine trainer) -- Nobody was here when you went by. It reeked of urine.

Temple of Thor (Divine trainer). -- Arnthora, a priestess, not evil. Training available at a rate TBD. She's worried about the frog cult, but thinks you're too wet behind the ears to clear it out.

You're welcome to do anything you like in the inn the next time you're there.

Re: OOC

Now, I don't like to dispel mystery, but I think I'd better come out and say that I don't know of any other entrance into the manor itself. There might be, but the organization of the module is such that I'll be damned if there is one.

I'm also going to say that this is more than just a manor; it's an estate with all that suggests.

Re: OOC

OK, I added a text adventure style map so you know where you're at. Moving to another location on your own or in pairs would mean separating from the party. If you wish to explore north or south, it will take 30 minutes to reach the ??? -- after you spend time getting a sense of the courtyard.

Trevion detects no evil emanations from the statues.

Re: OOC

Thanks.  Cass wasn’t suggesting that the party separate - just wanted to ensure we all remain within 20-40 yards/meters from each other (speaking distance outside) as the group explores the statues, trees and courtyard.  Figured with the fog it was safer to stay in pairs to avoid any one person disappearing in a hole or well with no one else watching their back.  I wouldn’t recommend breaking into groups to explore to the north or south separately.  We can go those directions together if the group wants to do that before addressing the front door.  At this point, our exploration is localized.

Re: OOC

Ereth: thanks for posting the marching order configurations.  That’s a start.  If the party is ready, I think we go in!

If Brant’s ready, he can take the lead, followed by Trevion, then Ornwin.  Then we can follow with the rest of the single file order as is.  Otis protecting the rear in case the undead rise again!

The only question is whether we need torches to see or whether there is enough ambient light since Brant and Trevion do not have IV.

Does Ornwin (having IV) peer around Brant and Trevion, or are we doing the 1-2-2-1 order posted by Ereth?

Re: OOC

I think Cass was good with the orders I originally proposed. She may just have been responding in-game to Brant and Trevion taking up their positions.

In general, Ornwin is in front, as he wishes to be, whether it's single file or double file.

Simplest resolution to the entrance to the Manor is that Brant and Trevion flanked the door, then fell in behind Ornwin when he entered the foyer.

In reply to Ereth (msg # 510):

Agreed. I was giving Brant and Trevion the option to enter first, since they were ready, if Ornwin did not speak up; otherwise, they were flanking Ornwin's entry.

I could not commit Ornwin to point person entry into the very first room of the Manor without his authorization - although that is the current default marching order.

Re: OOC

Otis and Ereth start examining the 1st portrait to our left (#40), with the intention of making their way around the room in order.  Cass will hang back and re-asks Otis’ previous question to the butler, and pointing first at the portrait #40 being examined by Ereth and Otis: “Could you tell us about each person in these portraits?”

With an unspoken nod to the rest of the group, she encourages 1 or 2 of the fighters to join Ereth and Otis and at least one other to hang back with her to talk to the butler and keep an eye out for any other activity (from the entrance, further ahead in the foyer, from the columns themselves, or from the lofted ceiling above).

- I posted the above in IG thread - makes sense for Otis and Ereth to start with #40.  Probably worth one more fighter to take a closer look at each portrait with them. And then makes sense for the other three of us to spread out mid room and move along with the three portrait examiners while staying in positions where we can see the front entrance, any openings/doors ahead and anything weird happening with the columns or ceiling.

Hopefully the butler will act as narrator and be a good tour guide for describing each portrait.

Re: OOC

A couple of notes. I am tracking time, most meticulously. A conversational exchange or the examination of a single thing consumes 5 rounds. Searching a thing consumes one turn but could be longer depending on the thing. Moving 90 feet cautiously consumes one turn.

As for mapping a room, it's 1 turn per 20 × 20 ft room or area. I think I will go with 1 turn for most rooms, however.

Also, when I use italicized, purple font, I'm quoting an outside source (perhaps not word for word always). When the text is purple without italics, I'm quoting Tegel Manor.

Re: OOC

So.  Do we have a rough estimate for when the sun rises and sets here in Tegel Land?  Are we going with a 6am/6pm, 12 hour Fall/Spring schedule, or a longer/shorter Winter/Summer schedule?  If we left Village at noon, 1 hour travel to Manor (1.5-2.5 miles), we’ve probably spent 1-1.5 hrs exploring the grounds and 1st room (Master Foyer) so far.  It’s sometime between 2:30-3pm, correct?  Or am I off on any of the times just mentioned? Will you give us time updates in the game thread for each major update Host update or how should we estimate time?  Thanks!

--Unknown.

--Correct. It's 2:55 PM.

Will you give us time updates in the game thread for each major update Host update or how should we estimate time?

--I will not be providing time updates along those lines, no. I will tell you when you're starting to feel fatigued.

OSRIC:
Rest periods are typically necessary one turn out of every
six, one turn after each combat, and double-length (two
turns) after an evasion or pursuit. Parties that stay in the
dungeon for several hours and are not able or willing to
return to the surface may spend an entire “night” holed up
within the dungeon to recover spells. During these periods
the party cannot move, nor may they perform any other
strenuous action (though passive activities such as mapping should be allowed

--I'm currently thinking of the best way to implement this rule and/or modify it.

The overall intent it to treat time as a resource and keep this as old-school as possible.

Re: OOC

@Host: In that case, we are probably due for our 1st rest.  We traveled, explored outside and started the 1st room. About 10-11 turns.  This room is probably a fine place to rest - unless the bat guano cakes the entire floor of this room.  If that is the case, we either need to find a side or next room or go back out to the courtyard.

@Party: we need to decide as a party whether we are going to go back and forth to town each night or whether we plan to sleep/camp at the Manor. I assume we are staying at the Manor as long as possible and only heading back to town if we need to recover, heal, resupply, collect bounties, or get more info.  But everyone needs to buy in on whichever approach we take.  Trevion, Brant, Ornwin, Ereth?  Strong feelings one way or the other?

Re: OOC

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Otis!

My inclination is to stick it out at the Manor as long as possible or until circumstances force us to return to the Village.  But I’m open to counter arguments or a different approach if anyone feels differently.  I only raise the issue now because if we are going to get back to the Village before nightfall/fog, we probably need to head back within 1-1.5 hours.

Re: OOC

My only concern would be Otis and Ereth: If they’re forced to sleep beneath their personal rainstorms, they’ll likely need the services of an apothecary at some point, as they’ll both almost certainly catch cold.

Aside from that, I’m good with remaining at the manor. It’s certainly no more bizarre than anything we encountered in the village (at least not so far).

Host, you wouldn’t happen to be a fan of the films of Terry Gilliam, would you?
