I am, likewise, happy to host it. After the other three guests have arrived, we'll do a round of introductions.

I am here and ready for introductions. Should we be starting character creation based on your simple rules or wait until we are all ready?

No, you can go ahead. And I suppose we don't need to wait for the other two guests to start introductions (who you are/what you've done).

Not sure if we're doing player intro's or character intro's, but since I haven't started on the latter yet, I'll get the ball rolling on the former.

I'm an old school table top AD&D 1e player. New to PbP. Joined the site about a month ago because someone on the Grognardia blog recommended it. Have joined two campaigns so far and am having a blast.

Very excited to play Tegel Manor - it's been around since the early days but I've never played it before.

My username on the RPoL site is 1492, and my real life name is Marcus. Feel free to use either, as you prefer, in OOC communications.

As for player intro, I am also an old originally tabletop D&D player, I started with the original D&D in 1976 and moved up to AD&D; my personal preference remained there, though I have played in a few later version games. Much of the time, I was the DM using my own invented campaign world.

For a number of years there has not been a live tabletop game in my area that I am aware of, so I have either played solo games or played on RPOL, generally as a player, not as DM. I like RPOL because it is not too intense; I do not have to set aside several hours for a live game, but just go in and post my responses to the several RPOL games I am in.

I have also never played Tegel Manor. I have heard the name, but I do not know anything about it that might be a spoiler.

My intention is to play a dwarf named Ornwin. As some of you know, I have been playing a whole dynasty of related dwarves in various games. I am thinking of making him a fighter, but he might be a cleric if that fitted better into the party.

Dwarf Dynasty:

Yes, nod, let's be a touch tentative about party composition until we add the other two players, etc. etc. You're probably shooting for 4 melee types and 2 casters. I know wizard can be a hard sell in PBP, but I do think advancement, for savvy players anyhow, should be steady.

1492:
Not sure if we're doing player intro's or character intro's

Player and Host.

I used to teach English* (writing and literature) at the college level. I was never quite up for the daily grind of high school teaching. From there, I moved into social work (providing supports and services for individuals with substance-use disorders, mental illness, or chronic health conditions). This was a state of Massachusetts program to reduce health care costs by improving support for people who ... rely on ERs. Currently, I'm doing the coursework to be a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. Oh, and my daughter will be graduating from CalArts in May.

I've been playing AD&D and its successors since 1980 or so. It's a hobby of mine. I find RPOL suits me for obvious reasons.

*I was lucky enough to teach an elective, "Tales of the Dark Side."

Hello everyone. Looking forward to playing with you all. Newer to OSRIC but more or less familiar with the early editions.

Planning on letting the dice guide me a little and to see where we might have places in the party I might be able to help round out.

We have a lot in common, Ben. I started playing D&D in 1980 as well. Then studied English & Philosophy in college, which meant I couldn't find a job after graduation, so I went to law school. Reading and writing has been a big part of my life. I also have some experience with recovery programs.

I have one son at UVA and another heading to Auburn in the fall. (I'm in Atlanta.) They may join RPoL at some point since I told them how much fun I've been having so far. I love table top but it's just so hard to get people together these days.

I'm playing fighter types in my other two campaigns right now, so I'd be happy to take on a M/U here, if no one else wants to. I'm willing to do whatever is best for the party/campaign.

For now I'll wait to see what everyone else has to say.

There are a few other potential guests for that #6 spot. I'll choose one tomorrow.

Speaking for guest4, he's an exceptionally considerate chap who'd like to play a melee type, so if someone is leaning towards cleric, please lean all the way.

I think guests 1-4 know this but for the last 2, we'll start gameplay proper on 5/1. I need some time to study Tegel Manor and build up this site some before I can run the game.

Regarding my RL career, I earned an MA and Ph.D. in medieval studies but ended up teaching a lot of basic English and history survey courses; I taught fulltime until 2016 when my left hip gave out. I retired to emeritus status but have taught a few classes as needed since. Lately my right hip went out, so at present I am just re-cooperating at home.

In reply to Guest2 (msg # 16):

I stopped at MA; I had neither head nor desire for research and it was apparent to all. My wife, however, is a full professor of art history and excels at both teaching and researching. Alas, she is no theoretician so that has been her limiting factor. She also doesn't grovel at the shrine of equity (which continues to be a nonsense word in academic circles). Apologies for the politics -- my wife and I are just getting so tired of it. I only ever wanted to be a centrist.

I, too, have taught quite a few basic English and composition courses. But the place I ended up as a part-timer allowed me to teach 200-level electives as well (it closed in 2018 precipitating my move to FT social work much to the delight of my wife).

Sorry about your hips! My elderly father is in decent health in most respects but he has bad hips and knees. Bone on bone all around. The pain is terrible but he refuses to have surgery. I hurt for him and I hurt for you.

Apologies for being late with an introduction. In terms of my workplace, the beginning of the month can often prove a bit challenging.

I’m really excited to take part in the forthcoming adventure. Tegel Manor is one of those legendary modules I’ve heard about repeatedly over the course of my involvement in the RPG hobby, but beyond one brief start that quickly sputtered out, I’ve never had the proper opportunity to explore the (in)famous house’s halls.

I started my fascination with RPGs with red box Dungeons & Dragons in the eighties, ultimately moving on to First Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Since then, even accounting for years that I’ve been away from the tabletop, I’ve played and run a lot of different systems, but always seem to gravitate back to the early editions of D&D. That style of adventuring and storytelling remains amongst my favorites, along with Call of Cthulhu and some of the GDW games, like Traveller and Twilight: 2000.

I’m really glad to make everyone’s acquaintance. I’ve played in and run quite a few games on RPoL over the years and it remains one of the primary places for me to get my adventuring fix, though I am blessed to also have a tabletop game that meets biweekly. On RPoL, I go under the moniker Loughcrew.

Hi folks, I'm pretty much the same as Guest 4 but atarted RP a little later and didn't like CoC much (although maybe that was just the GM).
I've spent years in Undermountain, played preety much all of Rappan Athuk, and three quarters of the World's Largest Dungeon. Nearly 10 years at 10 hours a week playing Hackmaster 1e with a vindictive GM about rounds it out. I've recently rediscovered GURPS and am currently enjoying that too. I'm fine with detail, love co-ops & tactical combat (grid fighting) and am OK in story mode. I hate PvP and direct confrontation. (Which is not to say I can't take it, just prefer not to).
I have a touch of dyslexia which shows more if I'm tired or stressed or just don't have time to re-read a couple of time.
I play FFG Star Wars once a week (the other tabletop sessions seem to have been killed by COVID).

The host feels obliged to remind the guests that introductions reveal not only what we have played but also who we are although not in equal measure. This is, of course, not obligatory but is encouraged.

We're going to be in this room together for years to come, health and sanity permitting.
