The near side of the lake, the one without the shrine, I take it?

The watch order will need to be updated.

@Hieroman -- Yes, it appears that gravity has been reversed, at least around the chest.

Re: OOC#2

Perhaps this?

1st shiftBercy & Cass
2nd shiftOrnwin & Rasxif
3rd shiftBrant & Archonia
4th shiftBart & Hieroman

Perhaps 2 1/2 hours each?

(If we prefer to keep it three shifts, then delete the last, add Bart to the first shift, and Hieroman to the second.)

As for where to camp, I was thinking the beach at area 3 on the map (msg #45) would be fine, with most people sleeping in the eastern corridor, those on watch outside, and perhaps Hieroman could set her net on the beach or the other side of the corridor, so if something comes from the water or through the door, it might find itself ensnared.

The proposed watch order and campsite are all right with me. I should also note that I am scheduled to have my right knee replaced this Tuesday Apil 30. I am not sure when I will be back to gaming.

What are you going to have it replaced with?  I hope bionic, possibly robotic?  We're at that stage of body part development right?  All the best I hope the op goes smoothly.  You'll become part of the zipper club.

10 years back my old man had it done to both knees.  It stopped him being bow legged and put 2 inches of height on him.  He was a little woozy after the op, for a few days, but once recovered so much more mobile.  I hope you have the same experience, ideally with bionic pieces like Steve.

Re: OOC#2

Since Hieroman started as a 5th level druid with 12.5k exp, Bart should also have started with 12.5k exp.

All other pcs may receive a 3k longevity adjustment (no prime attribute bonus).

54 Exp for sinking the float of crocodiles
300 Exp Easter Egg Bonus for Archonia
75 Exp Easter Egg Bonus for Cass
75 Exp Easter Egg Bonus for Rasxif

Total experience earned from this session: 384

I think that should be 284, not 384, unless something was left out?

Re: OOC#2

Two questions for The Host:

1) Bart started with 10,000 XP. Should I actually change that to 12,500? (I can't tell if this is a straightforward conversation or if there's an element of humor.)
2) I forgot you like to do Easter eggs. Did those listed happen before I arrived, or did I miss something in the bugbear encounter?

Re: OOC#2

It seems to be that he is saying Bart, Hieroman, and Archonia are all bumped up to 12,500xp.
(Hieroman started there, Bart adjusting to that as his starting amount, and Archonia reaching it with the longevity amount.)
And the others, who have all been around much longer, add 3000xp to what they had.

I think those Easter eggs were before you arrived.
However, from that last post-

> Papa Duc Lake

Perhaps a reference to Papa Doc Duvalier of Haiti?

> companions there with them, two-legged or four legged, humped or unhumped

A reference to another game the DM runs.

Re: OOC#2

Thanks Archonia. I will update Bart's XP accordingly.

I agree that has to be a reference to Duvalier.  Does that mean there may be an Easter egg here for us to uncover? Maybe figuring out why it says "Duc" instead of "Doc" and how that fits in with the lake?

Also, per your last comment, if the "legs and humps" business is from another game, it should not (therefore) be taken as additional clue?

Sorry for all the questions. It may take me a minute to get re-acclimated to the DM's games within the game.

Re: OOC#2

I don't necessarily think there is much rhyme or reason to the Easter Eggs- just things the DM is interested in, but no larger meaning.

If you expand the ooc with the 'all' tab, then do a search for 'Easter', you can quickly see what we've come up with, and the tone of them. (It started in the ooc thread at msg #710). Narnia references, Twilight Zone references, etc.

Given most of the references are all well before my time, unless it reads as odd and I research, they do not click for me. And IIRC, there are at least four we had not recognized.
If you wanted to parse through the 'Dwellers of the Forbidden City' thread, you might find some. It is first mentioned in post #39, but he started to place them prior to that, so besides all of the Dwellers thread, you could also look in 'The Paranormalist' thread, from msg #147 on.

Re: OOC#2

Gotcha. Thank you for all of that.

FWIW, I googled "duc" and the first thing it returned for me was that it is the Latin root for words like abduct, conduct, deduct, etc. Probably a red herring but thought I'd throw it out there. If we all share whatever we come up with maybe a light will eventually go off for someone.

Re: OOC#2

From what I can see regarding the XP, Hieroman just needs to stand around and look pretty right?  She's got all she's entitled to at 12,500xp.

is it appropriate for Hieroman to be selecting new spells to replace the spells previously cast now?  Are we resting that long?

Re: OOC#2

Hieroman started with the 12500 XP, but add the new 284 just earned from the bugbear encounter as well. And, yes, identify the new spells you want for the next day…

…and if you have any new spells that might help find a key, open a door, or access a chest on the ceiling, memorize those for the new day! 🙂

Well, Hieroman started at 12.5k as he took control of a lev 5 NPC druid.

I had thought Archonia had just over/under 10k exp which would have meant +3k would give her more than 12.5k. I thought she was just a few hundred off of 4th level.

Papa Duc comes from the same egg as before.

Aha! So... perhaps I was correct with the doc/duc/duck connection. But since the "same egg as before" predates my arrival, this clue is presumably more helpful to the rest of you than to me. I will take Archonia's suggestion and look through the thread history to acquaint myself.

Re: OOC#2

The 3000xp put her at 12,599 xp, so 99pts over. Definitely do not take it as a complaint on my part though; she received 3000 for just being here, and it does not hurt her any of others are given more or less xp. I just thought it was funny it also came out to just about 12.5k!

I'm not sure, but I think the DM is saying the 'Papa Duc' Easter egg is just the Papa Doc reference I mentioned in msg #896, and does not go beyond that for any further meaning. Most of the Easter Eggs have been like that- a one-off joke or reference, not something to go too deeply into. But the DM can clarify, since he had not said that my guess of Papa Doc Duvalier of Haiti was right in the first place.
