Wow, I really let that first OOC get out of hand.

Is the giant mouse a reference to Reepicheep in (I think) Voyage of the Dawn Treade

It's possible. It wouldn't be my doing as I don't have the material to make allusions to that book. If you want to make the case for it after we're finished with the state room, I'll let you know what I think.

Well, the description is strikingly familiar to my memory of it. The clinchers would be a rapier and a feather in the hat.

Wait. That could have been a wise and noble rat king who just happened to have zombie servants. No?

Brant: who is Dantes? I was thinking that was your 2nd specialized attack, but our table has you d20+3, d8+3 for both attacks.  Your post looks. Odd.  Do I need to update that table?

In reply to Otis (msg # 2):

OOC: I love Reepicheep, who is also in Prince Caspian, though a more major character in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. However, in our context I think this rat is more likely to be a bad guy related to the Rat King in the Nutcracker --just in time for Christmas, too!

Bah! It's just being stubborn. Well, it was being stubborn. Now it's being dead.

Ok. Temporary effects you can handle - but your 2nd attack *likely* did more damage than you rolled. Should have been d8+4 instead of d6+1.  Hopefully it generates more...

Yes, 2nd attack should have been the same as the first but I fat-fingered it and decided to leave dead rats where they lay.

That’s funny. I don’t picture Brant “fat fingering” the keys.  He strikes me as a brawny but very physically fit type.

I appreciate your literary allusion hunting fervor, I do. It's almost as if you've been trained to do so.

I could see the white rat as Reepicheep were it not a white rat but a black-furred one.

So it must be an allusion to James Clavell's novel, King Rat!

There is also the rat king in J.B.S. Haldane's My Friend Mister Leakey, possibly the best collection of fairytales ever written by a committed British Communist -- I refer to him as "The Anti-Inkling" since he critiqued Out of the Silent Planet in the article "Auld Hornie, F.R.S."

The Temple of Harmakhis.

This temple was constructed in the Valley of the Lions by Rameses II (about 1250 BCE) in honour of the gods Amun Ra and Ra Harmakhis. The back of the temple is hollowed out in the Rock.

In the foreground, the king's statue and a "dromos" of sphinxes which have given the place its Arabic name.
