As you open the door you see Huma playing with her dolls in the living room.

"Welcome home, Yasmin," your mother called out.

"Thanks!" Yasmin called back.  "Um, I have good news!  I got us some Meat!"

"How?" your mother asked, coming out of the kitchen in a plastic apron and gloves.

Yasmin grinned awkwardly.  Not dramatic, really, but...

"There's a special place they told me about at school," she said.  "If you go there and say the right code words, they sell you Meat!  It's run by some human-eating spirits from Japan."

"That is good news. How much did you get?" your mother asked.

"A little over two pounds," said Yasmin.  "Enough for a meal or two, if it's part of something else."

Ghuls, these days, rarely were able to simply gorge on Meat.  Noodles or rice or other extenders were inevitable.

"Ah, this will last use for a while," your mother said. "You've done well."

"Thank you!" said Yasmin, glowing with pride.  "I'll see if I can get more in a day or two."

"Good, good. I'll start preparing this right away," your mother said.

Yasmin was more or less walking on air as she went to do her homework and get ready for dinner.

"Dinner is ready," your mother called from the bottom of the stairs.

Yasmin hurried downstairs, her stomach growling at the thought of it!

The family had gathered around the dining table, your mother was dishing out some noodles and meat.

Licking her lips, Yasmin sat down to eat!  MEAT!

It was certainly more meat than you've had in a while.

"Yasmin is the reason we got to have this meat today," your mother said.

The rest of the family said many different thanks and praise to you.

Yasmin blushed, grinning.

"I'll see if I can do this again, soon," she promised.  But how often would it be possible...?

"Gonna keep how you found it a secret, huh?" Faizah asked.

"Mom knows," Yasmin pointed out.  "It's not actually that exciting, though.  A classmate of mine has a friend who helps out people who need Meat."

"Interesting," Huma said. "I'm surprised people are willing to share it."

"It's some kind of service to the community, I guess?" Yasmin guessed.  "I don't know the details, but even if they expect some further payment later, it's surely worth it."

"I can agree with that," Huma said.

Yasmin smiled indulgently.

"Well, I know you're a growing little girl," she said, ruffling her little sister's hair.

"Hey!" Huma said, puffing out her cheeks.

"Ah, there's the fierceness!" said Yasmin.  "You'll be a mighty hunter some day."

Huma crossed her arms and let out a "Hmp!"

Yasmin gave her an indulgent smile.  Huma probably would be a mighty hunter some day, but she needed to get at least two feet taller, first.

"How did school go?" Faizah asked.

"It was fun," said Yasmin.  "There were some old friends there, but I met a lot of new people, too.  And it's good to be in a class with Raina."

"I'm going to school too! It was great," your younger sister adds.

"That's great!" said Yasmin.  "Did you make any friends?"

"Yeah, but they're humans so I don't think I can have them over," Huma said.

"Not for dinner, anyway," Yasmin observed.  "But you can go to their houses, at least."

"I'm worried you'd eat them," Huma said, sticking her tongue out at you.

Yasmin sighed.

"I wouldn't hunt humans," said Yasmin.  "Especially not in this country!  And I wouldn't hunt your friends, either."

...she said nothing about eating them if they died, of course.  No need to make a difficult promise.

"I think she's just trying to get a rise out of you," Faizah said.

"Oh, I know," said Yasmin.  "But it's good to repeat the important basics."

"Fair, but let's not turn this from you securing some meat," Faizah said.

"I'm glad that I was able to do so in a way that shouldn't cause us trouble," said Yasmin.  "I'll need to ask questions about how often it's available, of course."

It was a rare thing to get meat every day, after all, unless there was a brutal war on.

"Than we shall leave it to you," your mother said.

"I'll try not to let you all down," Yasmin promised.

"It's not a life and death matter, dear," your mother said.

"I know," said Yasmin.  "...but I have pride as a young ghul."

"A fair point," your mother said.

"Besides, we've all been hungry so long since we left Persia," Yasmin sighed.  "I want full tummies for all of us!"

"It is certainly more difficult here, though it could always be worse," your father said.

"Not being shot at is definitely good," Yasmin agreed.  She considered texting some of her friends after dinner-- Rania, at the very least.

Your phone beeped.

Hey, how did it go? Rania tested.

Pretty well, Yasmin sent.  Just did dinner.  That connection for meat really paid off!

That's good. I'm just settling down for some homework - Rania texted back.

Cool.  So who's your crush? Yasmin sent, hoping to surprise a reaction out of her.  It was a text, though...

What's this all of a sudden?- Rania asked.

You were hinting about it earlier.  No one will overhear you now... :)

I have no idea what you're talking about - Rania texted back.

Oh sorry.  The way you talked about dating I thought you had someone in mind but didn't want to tell me in public.

That's right! It's nothing! - Rania texted back.

Not even a hint?  Pleeeeeease?

There's nothing to hint at! - Rania texted.

But surely there's someone you think is nice or cute or cool... ;)

Maybe, but you're not getting it right now - Rania texted.

I'm still trying to work out who I want to date, she sent back.  Too many cute girls!  Can't decide!

Poor Yasmin - Rania texted back.

I guess I could have worse problems.  But just thinking they're cute doesn't help me.  I need to do something.  AAAAAAH!

Now the, who do you have your eyes on? - Rania typed.

lol every girl I know!  Especially ones in the special class, though.  But I don't even know who wants to date girls SO FRUSTRATING!

I didn't realize you were a frustrated succubus and not a ghul - Rania texted back.

Meanie!  I'm just trying to enjoy the spring of my youth!  Besides, if I WERE a succubus, I could get a date...

I don't know if they go for dates...

I literally have no idea.  But maybe they might.  And I want dates, regardless of succubi which I am not one of!  I'm just lonely!

Yasmin went off to do homework and study.  For now, at least, that would have to do.  Unless someone called her, of course.

After about an hour or so, there was a knock at your door.

Yasmin went to see who it was.  (Not hard-- she could tell by smell, if it was someone she knew.)

It was your younger sister.

"Hello, Huma," said Yasmin.  "What can I do for you?"

"Do you wanna watch a movie?" Huma asked.

"Sure!" said Yasmin.  "What movie did you want to watch?"

"Uh, something good!" Huma said.

"What?  Not something awful?" Yasmin teased.  "Do you know what kind of thing?  Action?  Comedy?"

"Maybe something with princesses?" Huma asked.

Yasmin smiled.

"Of course," she said.  She pulled up Frozen on her tablet.

"Was there ever a Ghul princess?" Huma asked as she climbed onto your bed.

"I'm told there were, back in the old days, in Persia," said Yasmin.  "Before the rise of the Prophet, we had a small kingdom in the desert.  There's even rumor of a human who married into our family..."

"Really? That's weird," Huma said.

"Well, that's what the story says," said Yasmin.  "I don't know if it's true or not.  But I guess it's possible.  We can live alongside humans, after all."

"Could they have had kids?" Huma asked.

"I've heard rumors that it's possible," said Yasmin.  "I don't know for sure, of course."

"That's weird," Huma said.

"Well, stranger things have certainly happened," said Yasmin.  "Why so curious, though?"

"Princesses are cool," Huma said.

"Do you want to be one?" Yasmin asked.  "Or marry one?"

"Yes and maybe," Huma said.

"Well, it's good to know that," said Yasmin.  She wasn't sure how long the 'Princess' phase would last, but it was common and usually harmless.

"What kind of princess?"

"One of those ones that can fight or use magic, that'd be cool," Huma said.

"Very sensible," Yasmin nodded.  "And I'm already sure you know how to fight, so you've got a good advantage there."

"True. but that is the easiest part," Huma said.

"True... but there are many kinds of princess," said Yasmin, thoughtfully.  "I'm not sure how you become the ones you can become, besides marrying nobility."

Huma sat there thinking.

"But which kind do you want to marry?" Yasmin asked.  She didn't know what to expect for an answer, but it ought to be interesting, no matter what.

"Maybe one of the same, or like a prince that doesn't get in my way," Huma said.

"You've got good sense about that kind of thing," said Yasmin, nodding approvingly.  "If we can find a way, you'd make a good princess."

"Good, good. It's all falling into place," Huma said.

"...I wonder if anyone around is royalty?" Yasmin pondered.  "It's good to keep an eye out, certainly."

"Thanks," Huma said.

"...and if it works, I'm related to a princess," said Yasmin.  "Heck, we might BOTH become princesses!"

"That's neat," Huma said. "But I'm gonna be the higher ranked one. Then I can boss you around!"

"Well, we'll see how that works out," said Yasmin, diplomatically.  "Shall we put the movie on?"

"Oh, right!" Huma said. "Let's do that."

Yasmin set up the movie to watch.

Huma sat there excitedly to watch it.

Yasmin watched the movie with her sister, putting an arm around her as she did so.  It was nice to get to bond with her like this.

Huma gets into watching it, giggling and hardly being able to sit still in exciting scenes.

Eventually the movie ended.

"All right," said Yasmin.  "Bedtime for little girls like me who have to pretend to be diurnal for the humans."

"Aw, really?" Huma asked.

"It's pretty late now," said Yasmin.  "And we both need to get up early, when Humans do."

"Some humans stay up really late...but, okay, fine," Huma said and slowly left your room.

"Hey," said Yasmin.  She gave Huma a hug.  "You have good dreams tonight, okay/"

"Okay, you too," Huma said.

Yasmin went to look at social media in bed before she fell asleep.

There wasn't much there and soon Yasmin was asleep.

She dreamed of rescuing a beautiful princess, but could not remember what she looked like when she awoke.  It had been a rather naughty dream, however...

"Are you awake, Yasmin?" your mother called up the stairs.

"Yes!" called Yasmin, hastily finishing with her hair and hurrying downstairs.

When you get downstairs, it seems your father had prepared some eggs with a bit of meat in them.

"You're the best, dad!" Yasmin called before devouring the eggs.  And then, off to school!
