Character Creation

All characters will start at Level 1 (with 0 XP), and we will use the point-buy method of ability score generation. Feats and multiclassing will be allowed as per the rules in the PHB.

Player options from the following sourcebooks will be allowed...
  • Players Handbook (PHB)
  • Dungeon Master's Handbook (DMG)
  • Elemental Evil Player's Companion (EEPG)
  • Monster Manual (MM)
  • Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes (MToF)
  • Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (SCAG)
  • Tasha's Cauldron of Everything (TCoE)
  • Volo's Guide to Monsters (VGtM)
  • Xanathar's Guide to Everything (XGtE)

...with the following amendments:
  • The Customizing Your Origin Rules introduced in TCoE are functionally "turned off" for our purposes. This means that racial ability score increases are not flexible, and you can't swap out racial language, skill, armor/weapon, and tool proficiencies. However, if you have a very specific character idea or background where customizing your origin makes sense, pitch it to me and I will decide if I will allow it or not.
  • Races and subraces with built-in flying are banned. This most notably includes Aaracockra and the Winged variant of Tiefling.
  • Optional class features introduced in TCoE will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. In general though, all spell list additions, fighting style additions, and "versatility" features are fine.
  • The Peace Domain subclass for clerics is banned.

UA and third party content is generally not allowed.

Tentatively, characters of any alignment, including evil, will be allowed. However, keep in mind that D&D is a game of collaborative storytelling — if you make an evil character, or a character with a dark background or suspicious nature, it's on you to make sure they will integrate effectively into the adventuring party and become invested in the plot. In-character disagreements, tension, and even conflict (to an extent) are fine, and constitute good roleplaying. Actively antagonizing the party or specific party members and otherwise disrupting the adventure/campaign with no discernable reasoning is not acceptable, and this should go without saying.

Lastly, these rules about character creation are not necessarily set in stone. If you have a specific idea that you're passionate about, ask me about it and I might consider allowing an exception or otherwise working with you to find a compromise.
