Character Creation and rules.

CHARACTER CREATION

    -Starting level is 1

    -No evil alignment.

-For ability scores we're using the point buy, 27. No attributes higher than 15 before the racial.

-HP is max for level 1. For every level after 1, roll your HP and if you get less than the average for the die, take the average instead.

-All official WotC published content is allowed, except for races with base flying speed. Unearthed Arcana is not allowed.

-All character options from Tasha's are allowed.

-Multiclassing and Feats are both allowed. If you want to multiclass, I prefer that you roleplay that before the fact so that you don't just wake up one day and suddenly know how to be a wizard. I'm happy to work with you on it.

-You start with the equipment given to you by your class and background. You can roll for your starting gold per the table on page 143 of the PHB rather than taking the starting gear if you wish, but if you roll the dice then you're stuck with the results. It can suck, but it can also be good feed for RP.

-Tracking Ammo sucks, so you have an infinite supply of normal ammo for any ranged weapon you use. Magical ammo will be tracked as normal, when/if you obtain such. Not applicable to thrown weapons.

-You know what else sucks? Encumbrance. We're using common sense for this. You're not going to grab three suits of plate armor and stick them in your pocket, or steal an entire shop display in one go, but otherwise I don't care how much your stuff weighs.

-If you're going to be gone for a period of time, post it in the Planned Absences thread so that everyone knows, and I will NPC you for that time as necessary.

-Potions can be used as a Bonus Action.

-I am a story teller so the rules are there as a frame work. I will follow them as much as possible, but the rule of cool could apply. DnD 5 rules are simple and mostly logical anyway

The link to the DNDBeyond campaign, where you'll be able to create your chars, is this one

https://ddb.ac/campaigns/join/28497181391762490

Start by creating a basic character in DnDBeyond, then link it to the campaign. It will open up the books Raieylan has available and allow you much more choices in race, class, background and subclasses.

PARTY CREATION

Ah, the important topic of how to create a balanced party. All dnd5e chars are a lot of fun to play individually, but it is as a party that the game really shines.

But what would happen if everyone comes in with a wizard? or a fighter? or a rogue? Then the diversity and strategies that elevates the game are lost.

Although 5e is not as cookie cutter as 4e was, there are still some roles that are clearly defined

- The front line Tank, that will take on the enemy head on and protect his back line allies

- The Healer, that will be able to save his allies from death be healing their wounds

- The Scout, able to go where he's not supposed to go and report on the way ahead undetected

- The Damage Dealer, either at range or in melee, that will kill the enemies faster

- The Swiss knife, that will be able through spell or deeds to bring utilities to the party.

- The Party Face, the one that will interact most successfully with the Non Player Characters (NPC), using the social skills.

Notice I didn't use any official classes in those roles, to avoid the common stereotypes of "Oh, he's this class, he must be this role"

With DND 5e versatility, it is possible to build almost any class for any role... but some will just be naturally better at a role than other.

Most characters will combine 2 or more roles, so don't limit your imagination. The goal is the create a party that will fill all the roles and give fun to everyone. Because ultimately, in DnD5e, the goal is to have fun, all together, GM included.

So I highly encourage you to look through the possibilities and to design a group that will mesh well together and create an rewarding experience.

ROLEPLAYING AND WRITING STANDARDS

The reason why I play these games, roleplaying! The joy of playing someone you are not, to be that dashing swindler that steals the necklace from the neck of the noblewoman, or that wise cleric that saves lives, or that half crazy explorer, looking to discover the source of power that will allow him to take revenge on his parents killer... all from the comfort of your chair.

I understand most of you are new at this wonderful world so I will not expect too much roleplaying at the start. I have 2 experienced friends that will be playing with you, take advantage of their years of playing and creating different roles to take hints from their posts and roleplay, growing your own. I myself have over 35 years playing these type of games so my experience is also there to be tapped.

I understand it can be intimidating, but we are all here to have fun. No one will judge you if you start with one of my personal pet peeve, one liner posts. What I do expect is that you will grow out of those with time and the good example of my friends.

Another thing, this is a roleplaying forum, not twitter, snapshat, or another of those limited characters social media platforms. I do expect full sentences and no abbreviations in your posts. English is not my first language and I do make mistakes, but I correct them as soon as I see them, some of my posts can have half a dozen edits. I expect the same from you.

I am still building the framework of the game, but feel free to use the OOC tread to ask questions about the game, request clarifications on what is happening in game, how a game mechanic works, etc. We are here to help.

I will not insist on an elaborate background, but as you build your character, ask yourself some questions:

- Where is he from? How old is he?

- Does he have a family? How many members? Are they still alive?

- Does the character have a mentor that taught him his skills?

- Why did he take on adventuring? Paying a debt? Fleeing a oppressive regime? Just for the thrill of it?

- What did he do before the game starts? Remember, you are starting level 1, so just out of basic training in your class, so no world saving... yet ;-)

- What is his personality?

- This is my favorite, what character trait/quirks does he have? I like to give my characters one or two quirks that make them unique. For example, my Lizard folk paladin gives nicknames of his invention to his "huntsmates", our halfling monk/assassin is "Tiny Dancer". Annica, my swarmkeeper ranger, was kidnapped by fairies as a young child and is terrified of the powers they gave her. She's also not very bright and repeats herself when she speaks. Those small touches give life to the character. You can also reskin spells to suit your image, my Water Genasi cleric spells all have a water theme to them.

- An interesting touch is to talk with your fellow players and create links already with them, before the game starts. My water Genasi has a twin sister played by Raieylan and we always tease each other.

And mostly, have fun!

EXPECTED POST RATES

- RPOL is not a fast medium, so we need everyone pulling their weight to accomplish the game. Try to look at the game at least once every two days, to see the changes and if you need to interact.

- For RP phases, 2-3 posts per week would be a minimum.

- For combat phases, as everyone needs to input, a minimum of a post every 2 days is asked for. If you can't, let me know and I can play your action.
