Hello fellow players! What type of characters is everyone hoping to play. I don't have anything specific in mind yet, but thought some of the rest of you might. What alignments should we be? I am fine with good, evil, lawful, chaotic, or anything in between. So long as the party can work cohesively, I don't even mind if we have alignments from all corners of the alignment table.

Also, I would like to claim Dark Blue for my dialogue color.

Welcome, everyone!  We're going to be starting with a total of seven players, mostly to offset the inevitable dropouts that happen near the start of every RPoL game I've ever been a part of.

The first order of business is obviously going to be figuring out the party itself, but I've got a few issues that I could use some player input on.

First off: do we want to start at level one, or skip ahead to level 3 or so?  There's something for the idea of starting at the very beginning, but level 1 characters are a little boring, and a lot of builds don't really work until level three or so (nonhuman gunfighters/alchemists/kineticists finally get precise shot, unchained rogues get dex to damage, etc)

I've also been going back and forth with the idea of how to make victory and defeat more meaningful, since I'm going to be very lenient about character deaths and resurrections.  So far, the possibilities I've thought up include:

1: No reward, the fight itself is enough: Win or lose, everybody levels up, gets new gear to match their level, and is ready for the next fight.  I'm worried this would leave the fights without any real stakes, but maybe stakes aren't actually needed.

2: Only level up on victory: If you lose the fight, you don't get a new level or new gear, but stay at your old level and face an enemy appropriate to that level.  More work for me, but it could work.

3: One time bonus: Winning a fight gives the party some sort of advantage for the next fight.  Maybe temporary bonus HP equal to their level, a single re-roll per player, or some sort of treasure or consumable picked out by myself.  Or just more money than they would otherwise get.

4: You stay dead: No free resurrections, anyone who dies has to make a new character.  It's an option, though I'm worried it would be a bit too demoralizing, and keep people from getting invested in the game.

Hi all.

If I am allowed to player what I RTJ my character would be NG.
I would like to use Purple as it what I use in other games.

I would suggest we start at 1st.  It would give us a chance to learn about what each player is good at and what their roles is (I plan to play a combat healer).  Also allow us to level up and take abilities that work well.  It would teach us to work well together.  Also most games lose 1-2 player in character development and the first combat so it will help us see who left and if need be adjust leveling up to fit with the number and characters left.

As for Win or lose.  May I suggest winning give up money, and maybe minor magic items.  The point being then if players want take crafting skills it would make use of them?

I would also put forward the idea of a minor boss fight and major boss fight after 3rd level.

Also we may want to work out how the party can run away if it all so wrong.  So we can fight another day.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the invite!!!

I think the best would to not be evil.  I have seen people mishandle it and it has ruined the game.

I think my color will be RED.

As for my character, I am not sure yet.  Player 3 is your combat healer going to be ranged or melee or only staying in the back?

Level 1 is fine for me as well, though I would prefer 3rd.  Also, option #2 I think works.  It gives us the ability to either try again (If we ran) or do a more level-worthy fight.

I am going to be an elf.  So Ranged.  I may take 2 levels in ranger over time to make things better.
I am also going to be able to cast cure spell in combat without resulting in extra attack on me.

Greetings, greetings one and all.

1 vs 3: Both are fun, I'd vote for 3 so that we are outside of the rusty shank crit range of death as well as the aforementioned reasons the DM outlined. If we end up starting at 1, it'll still be fun I'm sure.

Victory and Defeat Ramifications: At the end of the day, however you wanna do it is gonna be how it is. In order of preference, I like 2, 4, 3, 1. If anything, I'd probably want to combine some of these ideas. 2 and 4 especially. 3 sounds like a great way to reward some roleplaying too, so lets not take it off the table.

As far as alignment goes, definitely something that will be determined by my character once I have it nailed down; which at the moment I don't. I trend towards NE as a default, but E doesn't mean unheroic or disruptive, no worries.

My no assumptions thought as to build was something utilizing Poison(s) and/or a Mesmer but I'm pretty flexible. If we already have someone wanting to play a combat healer that opens up some interesting ground for a caster cleric, which is rare enough to get to play.

Dang, purple is my favorite but early bird gets the worm. I'll use Periwinkle.

Alright, now that we are confirmed in, I'mna poke around at some rules and come back with a concept.

Re: OOC

I like number 2. Number 4 is also fine by me. Character death doesn't scare me, as much of a bummer as it may be. I would still be happy to build a replacement character if the worst happens.

I am fine with starting at any level.

Player 4, I agree that evil is easy to do wrong and could be a disaster. Especially if they play it as evil = no self control or forethought about consequences. That said, an evil character I once played in a non-evil party was also one of the most fun characters I have played, because she had to take care to control her natural impulses so that she wouldn't be shunned by civilized society. It allowed for good roleplay, especially since her alignment was not a secret (and she was a cleric of Death to boot) and she even got along with the Good party members.

So while I am not pushing for an evil party, I do think it may be a missed opportunity to dismiss evil alignments outright. Especially if one or two people wanted to try something new.

Re: OOC

Would I be stepping on anyone's toes if I play an Arcanist? Not sure about any character details beyond that yet.

Re: OOC

Hello!

I guess I’ll go with green as my color.

I had originally planned on doing a combat healer of sorts, but since someone else would like to do that, I’m happy to fill a different role! I’m never at a loss of character concepts, so I’m happy to draft up something that synergizes well with what others are doing.

My preference would be to start at level 3 instead of 1, mostly because I find level 1 to be fairly boring. That said, if we go the other route, that’s fine with me as well.

I tend to lean towards neural alignments of some shape or form—either true neutral, CN, LN, NE or NG. I’m happy to pick something that will work well with others of course.

As far as the PC death and ramifications, I also happen to like option 2 or 4.
