Re: Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

OOC: A few things worth mentioning:  First, I just realized that familiars all have improved evasion, which means Diamond and Mortimer should have taken way less damage.  I adjusted the HP totals in this post to match what their HP should be.  Also, that means Rik would have had slightly more HP at the start of his turn, and been able to maintain one more lifelink without passing out.  Since Erisen had the next lowest HP of the party after Del, I put the lifelink back on him.

Also: if you fail the acrobatics check to move fast while blinded, you fall over immediately.  Rik failing his acrobatics check means that he didn't move at all, and is now prone.  On the plus side, he made his end-of-turn save against glitterdust and can now see again.  Also, his Channel energy hit a few more people than he thought: Del and the howler were also within range when he cast it.  Patagogi failed his check due to armor penalties, fell over, and had to use his second move action to stand back up.

Even blinded, Audrey is dangerous.  Leaning around the attacking air elemental, she whips an adamantine spike into the attacking wizard, sending the already concussed conjurer sprawling to the ground in a heap.  Meanwhile, Erisen's newest monstrosity mauls another wizard, leaving her bleeding and unconscious, but alive.  Erisen and Patagogi both try to blindly rush across the uneven ground, and immediately trip over the surrounding rocks.  Meanwhile Delfrydydd manages to blind one of the remaining wizards while he carefully picks his way closer to the action.  Rik's burst of healing energy washes over most of the party, patching them up just in time for yet another round of falling rocks.

As the blinded conjurer stumbles north to the relative safety of the sleet storm, four more waves of stone fall from the sky onto the party, battering the party and destroying the air elemental that had tried to attack Erisen.  Two more air elementals join the fray as well, with one swooping in to help fend off Aubrey while the other fights through Erisen's protective spells, slamming into him at top speed.  From inside the sleet storm, even more chanting can be heard as one of the wizards works to add another attacker to the fight.

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

Rocks cascaded from the sky, causing Erisen to wince from their impact. Another swing from an elemental added to his discomfort. Taking a step back, he said with a hint of annoyance, "Enough of this!"

The giant howler, still blinded from the glittering dust, paced uneasily, growling in its confusion. Recognizing its need for direction amidst the chaos, Erisen called out, "In front of you, the swirling wind — strike there!" Yet, in its blindness, its attacks went astray, missing its intended target.

As Erisen stepped away from the stony debris, he caught the murmurs of another summoning from the sleet storm. Reacting quickly, he chanted an incantation, reshaping the form of his howler into a massive dire bat. With a powerful beat of its wings, the creature soared upwards and then flew next to the platform. Its jaws found their mark in an instant, ensnaring the unsuspecting mage. The caster's incantation was cut short, his form collapsing under the might of the dire bat.

Concerned for Diamond, Patagogi put him in a pocket to not be hit by anything else.

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

"Gods damned summons, get out of my way. I don't have time for your shit."

Audrey hurt. She was bruised and rocked and all over sore. She couldn't reach the mage through the sleet storm and she couldn't get away from the stupid elementals and generally she was just done with it as she moved to tear apart the living winds with her shovel. She had mages to brain, not time for this nonsense.

Full: Flurry of Shovel Blows vs Air Elemental 1

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

Rik stands bleeding and barely conscious as the damage continues streaming in from his allies. He struggles to his feet and mutters something under his breath as he casts a spell on his equally battered little friend Mortimer. "Get out of this area for now." He says to the creature.

Mortimer alights on Rik's shoulder but before he departs he nuzzles Rik's hair and the power of one of the potions he carries suffuses Rik's body, healing most of his wounds.

Finally Mortimer flies off and lands in a nearby tree.

Automatic:
Del and Erisen each heal 6 HP
Rik takes 5+3 damage, Mort takes 2 damage.

Rik
Move: Stand
Standard: Spirit Share on Mort
5ft step to AB23 (a Standing should be a Move equivalent that isn't movement?)

Mort
Standard: Cure Serious Potion on Rik
10:25, Today: Rik Feyleaf rolled 28 using 3d8+16.  Sure Serious Potion.

Move: Fly to AD18 as high as he can get in the tree

Re: Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

As Erisen's altered beast struck down another of the charmed wizards, and Audrey forcibly dispersed the animate winds attacking her, the remaining wizards finally ran out of stones to rain down on the party.  In it's place came a wave of glitter bombs, aimed by sound at the largest, closest members of the group.  Audrey, Erisen, and Erisen's summoned monsters were all caught in the various blasts, but each was able to close their eyes in time to retain their sight.

The remaining elemental was apparently unwilling to approach the massive dire bat, instead flying up to meet Delfrydydd in mid-air.  It slammed into the flying magus, but the impact was safely absorbed by Del's armor.  From inside the sleet storm, yet more chanting could be heard, as the mages did their best to add more fighters to what was quickly becoming a lost cause.  From the west, the party hears a yell of pain as one of the wizards tries to make the jump down from her platform, only to land badly and hit the ground hard.

OOC: Patagogi's destination already had a howler in it, so I put him in the nearest square.  Rik is unable to take a 5' step, due to the difficult terrain.

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

The howler, despite its blindness, seemed to sense the rhythmic intonations of the conjurer's incantation. With each muttered word, the creature grew more fixated, trying to locate its next target. The air grew tense as it repositioned, the subtle rustling of leaves and the crunch of twigs underfoot serving as the only prelude to its strike. But the lack of vision was its undoing. It lunged, jaws snapping with ferocity, but found only emptiness.

Meanwhile, Erisen turned his gaze upwards, shouting an order into the icy gale, "Into the storm, beast! Find the spellweaver!" With a powerful beat of its wings, the massive dire bat heeded the call, diving headfirst into the swirling maelstrom. An agonized cry rang out, proof of its successful interception.

Drawing upon his vast knowledge, Erisen then began an ancient chant, each syllable heavy with potential. He felt the ambient magic responding, the energy swirling around him, ready to manifest into another creature that would heed his command in the impending moments of battle.

OOC:
I realize now that I kind of assumed pinpointing would be reactionary, due to verbal components being loud, but the results of the round stay very much the same if the howler needs to take a standard or move action to do it.

Giant Howler:
Free: Pinpoint Conjuror 2, auto succeeds at perception check.
Move: Move to TV10-12, auto succeeds at acrobatics for full-speed blind movement.

Giant Dire Bat:

Turning his attention to the new foe close at hand, Del shifted his position to give more room for his long arm and loosed his shot, "Bwyta plwm a iâ chi gwynt budr!" The half elf then vanished form sight.

Re: Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

The party pressed their attack against the faltering mages.  Del dispatched the elemental in front of him with a frozen bullet, and Rik took to the skies and cast another supportive spell on the group.  Audrey and Erisen's lackeys pressed the attack against the wizards hidden by the snowstorm, though neither of the targets were quite taken out of the battle.  Meanwhile Patagogi continued his maneuvers, looking for a more advantageous position, while Erisen started to summon yet another minion into the fray.

With their best spells expended, the wizards did their best to resist.  A man-sized ball of flaming magic appeared almost on top of Audrey, which she was barely able to bat away before it hit her.  Meanwhile the sounds of spellcasting rang out from the sleet storm as the other wizards hurled two snowballs and an elemental at the massive bat that was right on top of them.  The one visible conjuror left realized just how vulnerable she was to the approaching Patagogi, and cast a spell to vanish from sight while she recovered from her bad fall

OOC: Rik's bless hits every ally but Patagogi and the howler.  I assume the lifelinks to Eri and Del are still active, and transferred the damage accordingly.  Correct me if that was wrong.  Spell combat doesn't allow Delfrydydd to cast two spells in one turn, so he doesn't get vanish right away.

Re: Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

You could feel Audrey's frustration in the loud echoing clang of metal on skull as she slams it into the mage. Even as it begins to crumple she slams her shovel into them again, making sure they not only go down but stay down.

"Damn it, I'm so sick of your shit."

With the obvious threat of the elemental dealt with, "...hides them as much as it obscures us..." Del cursed his inability to see the remaining wizards as he moved above the sleet storm. As he approached the center of the storm from above, Del uttered more words of power, "Nawr rydych chi'n fy ngweld..." and disappeared from sight.

Patagogi had hoped to get the drop on the mage to his north but just as he was about to charge the mage he disappeared from sight.  Cursing his luck through his song, Patagogi moved toward the spot where the mage was.  He gave a feeling to Diamond of longing to find something.

Diamond with use his blindsight 30ft to sense where an enemy is.

Move: Patagogi will move to S8

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

Erisen's voice crescendoed, concluding his elaborate incantation. A Giant Spider emerged from the ethereal fabric between realms, materializing amidst the sleet storm's whirling ice and snow. With its complex array of senses locking onto a singular presence, the spider unleashed a web. The thick strands flew through the turbulent air but found no purchase, failing to entangle the concealed mage.

Meanwhile, the bat, reeling from the icy impact of the magical snowball, sluggishly continued its aerial dance. Its senses clouded and movements hampered, the creature still managed to find its mark, latching onto the mage with a powerful bite.

Erisen glanced toward the cacophonous storm and chuckled. "Might as well make it even more crowded, then," he remarked. "Howler, into the storm! Follow the sound of battle!" The Howler, vision now clear, obediently lunged forward, guided only by the resonating cacophony inside the storm.

Then, Erisen approached a fallen mage, whose lifeblood was seeping into the earth. Kneeling beside the fallen mage, Erisen took a moment to tear a piece of the young conjurer's robe. Wrapping the makeshift bandage around the wounds, he whispered, "You'll live," as if it were both a mercy and a sentence yet to be completed.

OOC:

Erisen:
Free: Finish casting summon monster ii, conjuring a spider at L21
  Move: Move to Q29
Standard: First Aid on Conjuror 6, DC 15 Heal check successful, stabilizing the conjuror.

Giant Spider:
  Free: Tremorsense pinpoints conjuror 7.
Standard: Web attack vs conjuror 7, misses due to total concealment.

Giant Bat:
Standard: Bite attack against conjuror 7. Hits, assuming against flat-footed and with -2 AC blind penalty, dealing 14 damage.
End: Remains hovering at the spot by making DC 15 Fly check.

Giant Howler:
Double Move: Moves to PR15-17, Automatically making all DC 10 acrobatics checks (blind moving and sleet storm).
(I'm not entirely sure where exactly it's movement ends, storm and steps are both half-movement which is tricky if you are huge. It just uses both movement on getting to the center of the storm.)

Rolls:
Erisen rolled 17 using 1d20+5.  First Aid Heal.

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

As Patagogi approaches the invisible conjuror, his familiar perks up, pointing to a spot behind a nearby rock.

OOC: I forgot about Diamond's blindsense.  The wizard's in N7.

Re: Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

Patagogi's approach, combined with the sounds of her allies falling silent under a din of clanging metal and shrieking beasts, was enough for the invisible wizard to finally lose her nerve and run.  It was hard to pinpoint her exact course, but the Patagogi could clearly hear the sound of footsteps racing away as she sprinted for the treeline.

From inside the fog, the party heard the other mage calling out, her shouts barely audible over the howls and screeches of Erisen's minions.  "I give up!  I give up, just call off your monsters!  Please, I'm sorry!  Please!"

OOC: Congratulations, you win!  Feel free to roleplay what your characters do in the battle's aftermath.

Floating above the storm, Del heard the wizards pleads. "Alright, you. Strait down the stairs and out of the sleet. I can't speak for the wee beasties but I won't shoot you. Oh, and bring that book with you."

Rik cuts off his allies from his life force and stands panting "Eh, got a little hairy there for a second? We didn't kill too many of these kids did we, misguided fools that they are." He scratches Mortimer's head affectionately then he walks over to stabilize any of the summoners that look terribly hurt.

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

The mages' surrender was met with Erisen's commanding voice, "Halt your advances!" Once the violent gusts and sleet began to dissipate, he started to move towards the steps. With a wave of dismissal, the howler and spider vanished. The bat, at his command, swooped down to grasp a fallen mage, bringing him with deliberate care to lay at the base of the staircase.

Standing near the steps, Erisen cast a sweeping gaze over the scattered mages. "Victor always did have a penchant for gathering ambitious underlings," he mused aloud, a hint of condescension in his tone. Turning his attention to the aftermath of the battle, he began to count, ensuring he took stock of every single mage.

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

Audrey let out an exasperated sigh as she began gathering up the knocked out Mages besides the surrendering ones, albeit several feet away. No need to give them access to each others inventory. She also vaguely looked them over to make sure none where bleeding out.

"Could have saved themselves a lot of trauma if they just gave up earlier." She grumbles.

Battle 6: The Conjurors' Folly

Once the sleet storm is dismissed, the beaten and battered wizards are gathered up.  Due to the party's notable restraint during the fight, none of the downed enemies are past healing.  The book itself is found tucked away behind the altar, safe and sound.

Still charmed and rattled from the violence of combat, the one mage still up and about can't help but give a long, regretful look at the corpse of the incubus she and her companions had summoned.  At Erisen's remark, she looked up bitterly. "He also has a penchant for treating us like garbage.  We're full-fledged wizards, damn it!  I mean, we summoned a demon! And we nearly had you lot.  But as far as the archmage is concerned, all we're good for is scrubbing floors and taking out trash.  We thought..." She looked back down to the torn apart fiend at her feet.  "We thought if we show him what we were capable of and bind a major fiend to us...well, the old man might actually give us some respect."
