Battle 1: The Marauder's Cave

The newly formed party headed out into the Hungry Mountains of Ustalav, with the aim of tracking down whatever or whoever was picking off trappers and woodsmen in the hinterlands.  It doesn't take them long to find the the marauder's latest work: A plume of smoke in the distance leads them to the burnt-out remains of a hunter's cabin, surrounded by tiny, clawed footprints.  Being an experienced woodsman himself, Buck is able to follow the trail with relative ease, and soon after, the party discovers a cave set into the mountainside.  The faint sounds of conversation in hissing Draconic can be heard from deeper in the cave, as can the smell of roasting meat.  The aroma of cooking would be mouth-watering, if one didn't know where the meat had come from.

OOC: You haven't been noticed yet, so everyone is free to take a turn.  You may have any effects that last 1 hour or more already active.

Battle 1: The Marauder's Cave

At the sound of distant draconic, Uluchi hisses softly, baring her fangs.

"Claw-footed marauders with draconic pretensions; sounds like Kobolds. Small-minded vicious creatures, I may be able to sway them into anarchy with my Word."

The woman with serpentine aspects is known as Uluchi Sesa, while ascribing her powers as gifts from Nature, finding a more metropolitan being would be difficult. In fact, as a paragon of Draconic Greed and Pride she might well be a candidate; her scales are swathed in expensive silks and her actual expeditionary gear is high quality and designed to be as light as possible, like her darkwood buckler or the single spiked gauntlet with special fasteners to affix to her wrist rather than a larger piece of armor.

At six feet tall, Uluchi seems at home looking down with bright yellow slit eyes, assessing the world from the elevation of a predator. Her skin is a soft tanned brown with green scales accents, her hair dark green-black sweeping back from her forehead in straight silky lines to just past her shoulders. She stalks forward towards the entrance of the cave, pausing for a second as her skirt gets caught in from shrubs, scowling at the impudent greenery.

"Or we can dispense with subtlety this time."

MOVE: Attempt stealth as part of movement to C9 at half speed,
22:11, Today: Uluchi Sesa rolled 8 using 1d20+5.  Stealth while moving.
STANDARD: Ready Charm hex with Toxic Words vs any valid target (humanoid or animal) that comes out of the cave, with Sleep Venom as the linked poison in case of a failed roll.

Mechanical note: For her Charm, the DC (Will negates) is variable based upon the compatibility with target, ranging from 15 to 16 in this case, details in class features on sheet. If the target fails the will save, they will need to make a saving throw against Vishkanya Sleep Venom, Type injury; save Fort DC 13 (12 in this case, due to Toxic Words); frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; initial effect staggered for 1d4 rounds; secondary effect unconsciousness for 1 minute; cure 1 save.

Stat update: Uluchi's armor class is currently 19, 13 (touch), 16 (flat), Fortitude +4, Reflex +6, Will +5; for long duration effects, she has Mage Armor and Blood Boiling Pill active, adjustments from ongoing effects are accurate on sheet.

Standing around six feet tall as well, the armor-clad woman known to her colleagues as Veana takes a step forward, frowning slightly at the serpentine woman's words. Her fair skin seems to almost have a metallic gleam to it, and while she looks human at first glance, there is something otherworldly about her appearance.

"I am usually not one for subtlety if I'm being honest," she says in response to Uluchi, fastening the strap on her shield before drawing her longsword.

"Although, I got a trick or two up my sleeve," she adds, calling on her innate magic to change her features as she treads forward.

The woman's stature seems to increase slightly. Green scales replace her fair skin, while she adopts a more reptilian appearance, complete with a thick alligator-like tail. Not exactly a Kobold, but certainly closer to them in appearance. Perhaps the trick would confuse and distract their targets.

OOC: I think the table above has a typo re: my starting position, which looks to be B8 instead of D6.

MOVE: move to C10 and draw her weapon as part of the move action.
STANDARD: Use SLA Alter Self to change into a Lizardfolk -- Medium Humanoid, gain +2 Strength

One of the things that drew Koji to this group was because of the large woman.  For her part, Koji didn't look pristine like Veana had looked before changing her form nor did she look that good looking.  She was just a mass of muscle and rage which she used quite effectively.  She didn't know anything about kobolds but if they had caused trouble and had destroyed the hunters' cabin and were now having a barbeque to celebrate, Koji meant to crash the party.

She saw Veana pull her blade and advance forward so Koji did the same.  She would be ready to crash their party once the word was given.  "Maybe get them to come out by making animal sounds."

Elven hunter passed by the witch and murmured at her, before a longspear appeared in his hands with a twist of his quiver. And he slinked forwards as quietly as he could.

OOC:

"I'll try and cover you guys from the back," said Koyrai as he moved to a spot where he could get a better view of the cave opening. He cast Detect Magic before he moved though, just in case there were any auras worth seeing. The mage did not have many comments on which strategy they should employ for their current scenario, since his role would be largely the same regardless. That role being to stand near the back and blast things with magic. Also share his vast stores of knowledge, he supposed.

When he was in position, Koyrai also did his best to determine what it was that was being said in Draconic. It was one of the half dozen languages he could understand, unlike the Elvish that Puck was speaking. He had never taken the time to learn that one. Yet. "When you are ready, I can cast Ghost Sound to create animal sounds if you would like."



I will have Mage Armor already active, so my AC is currently 17. Prestidigitation too, because why not? I will then also spend a point from my arcane reservoir to switch out my Mage Armor spell for Burning hands.

Standard: Cast Detect Magic
Move: Walk to A11
I will also try to hear what is being spoken in Draconic, if possible. Here is a Perception roll for that:

Just before Puck moves Sandydale speaks.
Zippy Zippy Zup Zup.  He says and touches the Elf.  A small amount of electric charge move from one elf to the other elf.  The electric charge will add to pucks actions.  (However the other elf was to quick for Sandydale and all he was left to do was touch his own shoulder before moving off).
As the electric passes though Sandydale the elf said in low sounding voice to himself.  In a somewhat disturbing way.  Zippy Zippy Zip Zip.  Clearly enjoying the feeling of the electricity far to much.

Then Sandydale walks away from the group to place himself in a nice line of sight to fire arrows at the entrance of the cave.

Moving forwards, Puck's keen senses notice several things.  The first is that smoking the kobolds out won't work: The cave is wide and expansive, and the cave floor slopes down slightly, meaning that simply lighting a fire at the entrance wouldn't be sufficient to fill the place with smoke.  The second thing he notices are the booby traps: Faint symbols have been scratched into the dirt of the entrance, which Koyrai quickly identifies as trap runes, a magical trick favored by kobold sorcerers.  Anybody setting foot in the runed area would find themselves struck by a blast of fire magic.

Thirdly, as Puck comes closer, he finds he's able to make out the details of the draconic conversation coming from deeper inside the cave.

"I'm telling you, you need to use more seasoning!  Human meat is fatty and rancid all by itself!  Why do you get to be the cook if-"

"Shut up, everyone.  Did you hear that?"

"My alarm spell just pinged me.  Someone's outside!"

OOC: Everyone but Sandydale beat the enemies initiative, and can act now.

NOTES: Trap runes on D13, E12, F13, G12.  Touching the ground in affected squares triggers a blast doing 1d8+4  fire damage, with a DC 16 reflex save for half.

It is currently late afternoon and sunny.  Lighting is "bright" outside, and "normal" within the cave.  The cave roof is 30' high once past the entrance tunnel.

"Crap, magical traps," exclaimed Koyrai in disappointment when it became clear they had been found out. He quickly cast a Floating Disk spell as he moved into a better position.

To his friends, he instructed, "Stay close to the far wall to avoid traps. I'll provide a stepping stone over one, and Pebble will direct around the other." At Koyrai's word, Pebble, the arcanist's ioun wyrd familiar, flew over the closest trap to help warn people away from stepping on it who might have a difficult time noticing the arcane markings themselves.

Standard: Cast Floating Disk over the trap at F13 (for allies to step on)

Also, my familiar will move to D13 (flying so as not to trigger the trap) to help allies avoid triggering the trap.

"They know about us. Magic Alarm."
Puck took a deep breath and moved to the other side of the cave entrance. His eyes changed to slitted, cat like ones, and his ears become more of a lively triangles as whiskers popped on his face giving him defintively cat-like mien. His moves also were smoother.

OOC:
Delaying action to after Koyrai, to know where not to step, then moving to C14. Ready action wasted to activate Feral Focus(+2 Dex, +2 Str). Then ready action again ... or if seen a Kobold? Shoot it with the bow.

Perception check 18 to chance seeing any Kobold while moving. If Puck sees an kobold? He Quickdraws Longbow and arrow while sheating Longspear.

Koji hears the warning that they were discovered and cursed under her breath before moving forward.  Might as well advance because she doubted they would come out to fight.  "Going in!"

Move to E13 and ready an action to attack anything that might come at me.

Veana curses under her breath as some of her companions reveal that the kobolds are already aware of their presence.

"Right behind you," she says to Koji, following behind the orcish woman's steps, although a bit slower due to the extra weight of her heavy plate.

OOC: Move to D14 and ready an action to attack any enemies that come within melee range of her.

With stealth discarded so swiftly, Uluchi stalks forward towards the mouth of the cave, aligning a bit past in an attempt to catch a glimpse of their erstwhile foes. Slipping her gauntlet into a pouch attached to her other wrist, the metal comes out swaddled in a bit of grey cobweb, her fingers flexing the web and stretching it not quite to the breaking point.

Her eyes are fixed on the depths of the cave, searching, searching.



MOVE: Move 30' to B14
STANDARD: Ready to cast Web if I can catch at least 2 Kobolds in the radius; priority in targeting is to get as many kobolds as possible and then to get it as far away from PCs. DC is Reflex 16

The party advanced cautiously, with Koji leading the way and the two mages jostling for position at the back.  They held their weapons high, ready to defend themselves against the kobolds that seemed likely to burst out of hiding at any moment.  But no immediate attack came.

"Everyone, get ready!" Came a last draconic hiss from inside the cave, followed by the unmistakable sound of somebody casting a spell (easily identified as mage armor by Koyrai, Puck, and Uluchi.)

After that, the cave was silent.  No matter how hard they strained their ears, nobody in the party could make out any sounds that might hint at movement or action.  Whatever the marauders were up to in there, they were doing it very quietly.

OOC: The question mark represents roughly where you last heard conversation/spellcasting.  I'll post an update to the map once someone enters the cave itself.

Koji knew it was time to do her thing.  Her blood began to boil nad she could feel her rage grow.  Even as her muscles tightened and bulged she moved to F12, G13, H12, to end in J15 or sooner depending on enemies.

Koji looked to the spot she thought she had heard the spellcasting.

Having seen Koji head further into the cave, Koyrai took a deep breath and followed. "Here we go!" He kept along the cave wall to avoid the trap that Pebble guarded, and used the Floating Disk he had placed (F13) as a stepping stone over the second trap. When he finally got through the entrance to the cave, Koyrai turned and cast a Magic Missile at any enemy he could see. Preferably one who looked like the Mage-Armor-caster.



Move: to H13
Standard: Cast Magic Missile, if possible. Both missiles at the same target. Preferably at the/a mage.

Damage: 4 unerring force damage.

OOC: Unfortunately a floating disk hovers at a steady 3-ft off the ground, meaning it's not exactly an ideal stepping stone.  I'll let Koyrai walk over it due to his disk rider ability, but for anyone else it won't be helpful.  However, you can jump over a trapped square (or vault over the disk) with an acrobatics check: it's DC 5 if you move at least 10 feet before jumping, or DC 10 otherwise.

Also, I rolled passive perception for the party last turn, and nobody got high enough to spot any of the hiding kobolds.  You can make another roll by actively searching for enemies, which requires a move action.


Koji and Koyrai advanced boldly into the cave, eyes peeled for any sign of their quarry.  And, to their surprise they found...exactly one.  A particularly nimble looking kobold loitered near the campfire, a slender rapier in one hand and an empty potion vial in the other.  It seemed unusually well-dressed for a kobold, with a gleaming shirt of mithril chain and a decorated light buckler.  On it's head sat a ridiculous-looking hat, complete with a feathered plume.  The kobold looked Koji up and down appraisingly, before giving her a slight nod of acknowledgement and raising it's sword.

Then Koyrai shot it, and it's insolence was replaced with a hissing rage.

A sigh escapes Sandydale's lips before he starts to mumble to himself. "Had to go into the cave..." He wouldn't do much good shooting his bow into small spaces, especially when his allies could be in the way. He dashed towards the entrance of the cave, drawing his sword on the way.

Veana follows along as some of her companions walk deeper into the cave, careful to avoid the traps laid out by the entrance, she pushes forward towards the well-dressed kobold.

"Nowhere to hide," she hisses at the kobold in front of her.

OOC: Using both Move and Standard actions to move this round. First move through E13, F12 to end up in G13, then second move to end up in H16 adjacent to the kobold fencer.

Puck carefully observed where his party members pointed at the traps. He smiled and proceeded to run on the wall, before standing behind Koji with a flourish. As he also chucked a javelin at the kobold that was visible, just as his other hand brandished the longspear.
"(Elven)Back to back! No backstabs."
Kobold dodged and Puck clicked his tongue in annoyance.

OOC: Acrobatics check of 24 to run on the wall, and thus avoid the traps. Move to J14 to be back to back with Koji.
Quickdraw Javelin, then Ranged Attack the visible Kobold vs AC 18, 8 piercing damage. That was a miss.
Quickdraw to re-arm with Longspear. Held in two hands.

18:08, Today: Puck rolled 8 using 1d6+3.  damage javelin.
18:08, Today: Puck rolled 18 using 1d20+5.  Ranged.

Nothing but more empty cave. That can't be right. The voice of a single kobold, confident, mocking. Uluchi's scales quiver and twitch, realigning with the stress and wrongness of the situation and then her fingers flex, breaking the small bit of cobweb she pulled out a moment ago.

"Wahl Sil Drem!"

Pausing a moment to see the result of her magic, a gigantic spider web stretching out over the depths of the cave, Uluchi moves forward slowly.


Standard: Cast Web (Reflex DC: 16) centered on the intersection of N/O 12/13 (SE corner of the boulder/stone)
Move: Move to D14

The fancy kobold yipped with amusement at Veana's threat.  "Oh, you poor big oaf.  There is always somewhere to hide." And with that, his hidden compatriots burst out from their hiding places.

The first looked to be some sort of mage, clad in an elaborate regalia of bones and feathers.  It waved it's staff in the air while chanting a spell, then raked a clawed hand towards Koyrai, as though trying to gouge the arcanist's eyes.  Koyrai felt a stabbing pain lance across his face before his sight went completely dark.

Other ambushers, less impressively dressed than the fencer and the mage, also rushed to attack.  One fired a crossbow from it's position behind a rock to the east, striking Puck from surprise, before throwing it's crossbow to the ground and advancing on the blinded Koyrai with a pair of short blades and a predatory grin.

Another nimbly scampered out of Uluchi's web, loosing a bolt towards Koji, which ricocheted off of the bloodrager's armor.

A third lunged out from behind a rocky outcropping directly in front of Veana, coming at her with a wild stab that didn't even come close to landing.

The fancy fencer also aimed a thrust at the paladin, but failed to penetrate her heavy armor.  With a hiss of annoyance, it backed off slightly to keep the firepit to one side.

NOTE: The fire at JK 18-19 is lit, but not particularly intense.  Anyone entering the fire will take 1d6 fire damage and must make a DC 15 reflex save or catch on fire, dealing another 1d6 damage and requiring another save next round.  The fire pit counts as difficult terrain.

Kobold Mage: (Staff, scrolls, cloak)
STANDARD: Cast blindness, with DC boosted by Kobold Bloodline Arcana.  Koyrai fails vs DC 18 fortitude save and is "permanently" blinded.

Kobold Fencer: (Mithril chain shirt, Mwk Rapier, Darkwood buckler, dagger)
STANDARD: Attack Veana with rapier.  Misses with a 15.
FREE:     5'step to I18

Kobold Ambusher 1: (Studded leather armor, light crossbow, 2 short swords)
STANDARD: Crossbow sneak attack vs Puck.  Hits Flat-footed AC 16 for 8 damage.

Her longsword barely misses its mark, as she lets out a grunt in frustration.

Battle 1: The Marauder's Cave

Sandydale quickly rushes in after hearing the commotion, following Veana's steps to avoid the traps laid. He passes a Kobold by while getting into position and leaves an opening for it to strike.

After passing Koyrai, one of his hands grasps the air while he murmurs a short prayer to the divine patrons of all living things. A moment passes, and then a tingling of a rush can be felt by his comrades next to him.


Move: Move to E13-F12-G13-H13-H14, provoking an attack of opportunity from Ambusher 1
Standard: Casting Bless, Affecting everyone but Uluchi. +1 morale to attack rolls and saving throws vs fear. Duration 3 minutes, so probably the entire combat.

Puck whisper-shouted while his longspear stabbed at a kobold attacking the blinded Koyrai, and the slithe lizard ducked under the thrust with a sneer on it's lizard face.
Or at least Puck thinks it was a sneer.

OOC: Attack Kobold Ambusher on I12 vs AC 12, missing. Ready move action to follow Koji, with the intention to keep the barbarian from being flanked by standing behind their back.

Koji could see the other kobolds come out of their hiding spots as the rest of his companions entered.  She deftly dodged the crossbow bolt as it whizzed by her head.  Her rage was at its tipping point and exploded sending her straight at the mage who had cast a spell at her friend.

Koji had no way of knowing what happened to Koyrai but it didn't matter now.  Koji charged the mage with her weapon overhead and chopped down hard onto the arcane wielder kobold.


Rage as a free action charge to M17
Koji gains a +4 morale bonus to his Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class.  AC is now AC12 for this round.  HP is 37

"Ah! I can't see! Pebble, help guide me!" Even though his voice was panicked, Koyrai did his best not to physically panic. He took a step back toward his floating disk so that he might use the cave wall for support if necessary. And then he cast a spell where he hoped none of his allies had yet moved.

He couldn't see, but vision wasn't strictly necessary when you were simply creating a geyser of flame appear out of your hand. Koyrai cast Burning Hands! Then pulled out his dagger for defensive purposes. Not that it would do much good.



Free: talk, 5-foot step to G13.
Standard: Cast Burning hands to hit the kobold at I12.
Move: Withdraw his dagger.

Burning Hands deals 3d4 fire damage in a 15 foot cone-shaped burst. DC 16 reflex save for half.

In moments like these, full of cursing, shouting, the snick of metal parting flesh and the cackling of spell-casting; the true nature of someone fighting for their life can really come to the front and be seen.

Uluchi seems almost human moment to moment, but now with her magic defied by a scrabbling reptile with delusions of draconic ancestry, you can see the snake underneath. Her head rears up and back, elevated on a neck too long and flexible to be human.

Unblinking yellow serpentine eyes gaze down imperiously at the offending creature, the gaze of an apex predator imbued with deadly force and the attention of something else behind it, her eldritch Power coming to the fore and focused specifically on this Kobold.

Stalking forward, the swishing of her silks sashaying back and forth like the tail-tip of a snake furiously slithering; Uluchi enters the cave, bearing down on the target of her ire, no matter the result of her focus

The kobold sorcerer shrieked as Koji's blade slashed it across the chest.  "It got me!" it yowled in draconic, frantically backing up and drawing a scroll from a pouch at it's waist.  "Help!  Help me!"  Reading the scroll aloud, the mage seemed to split into three identical kobolds, each yelling frantically for help.

Whatever trash-talk the fencer was about to say to Veana next was completely forgotten at the sight of it's ally being hurt.  "Hold on, Sooty!" It called out, rushing past the paladin as if she wasn't even there.  "Just hold on, I'm coming!"  Totally ignoring the danger from Veana's blade and Puck's pike, the nimble kobold lunged at Koji, stabbing straight through her scale armor and skewering the berserker through the upper thigh.

Koyrai's attacker nicked Sandydale with one of it's blades, then chased after the retreating Samsaran.  It's first strike ricocheted off of Koyrai's force armor, but the second found it's way into his side, leaving a deep cut.

The remaining kobold near Veana, cornered and without a flanking partner, made a few weak stabs in her direction, while sidestepping closer to the less defended party members.

The ambusher near the mage drew his blades and used one to slash Koji, before backing off to block the way to it's shaman.

As the fencer moves past her, Veana doesn't waste any time and swings at him hard with her longsword, her steel introducing itself to the bastard's flesh with a clean cut.

"Got ya!" she calls out to him, a toothy grin manifesting across her reptilian lips.

The paladin's attention shifts momentarily to the kobold that attempts to assault her, but misses entirely. In responses, she swings her blade at the pesky little bugger, nearly felling him in a single blow.

"And you as well!" she calls out to him before turning her back, leaving herself open for a counterattack, while she chases after the fancy fencer.

OOC: REACTION: Attack of opportunity vs the fencer for 10 damage!
STANDARD: Then attack Ambusher 2 for 10 damage as well.

Battle 1: The Marauder's Cave

Sandydale stares at the kobold that barely managed a hit, keeping his sword fixed and pointing at it. Shallow wounds tend to not last on a devotee of life itself. His head turns towards his comrades engaging the two fancy kobolds, as he hears the battle there. For a second he considers moving to their side but decides against it. His presence is more useful in assisting the magi. But that doesn't mean he can't assist the others.

He raises his right hand swiftly, and in turn, it shines like a star briefly. Then the light of life leaves his hand with the sound of a muted explosion. With a little finesse, kobolds are left in the few blind spots of the burst. But his allies are exposed fully to the shine and have some of their wounds undone.

OOC:
STANDARD: Channel Positive Energy, Heal Living: Everyone heals 8 hp in 30ft radius. If my geometry is right there is 3 kobolds in raidus which are ignored with Selective Channeling. If I'm not, there is only 3 wounded kobold as far as I can see, so Selective will ignore those only.

As the kobold with a nice hat attacked Koji's back, Puck reflexively stabbed it in the off-hand, sadly it did not prevent the little blighter from blooding Puck's ally wich was unforgivable, thus Puck cleverly tried stabbing it again, this time in the throat, but the chainmail partially deflected the injury so kobold did not die. At least it bleeds now?

Koji felt the sting in her back but her rage didn't deter her from continuing her strike on the mage.  Koji moved 5ft towards the mage and then she swung her blade across her body hitting what she thought was the kobold mage but instead, it was just one of the images.

Hit one of the images with a 14 so only 1 left.

When Koyrai felt the sword penetrate his side, the blind Arcanist lashed out instinctively with his cold-iron dagger but found nothing but air. "Coward!" he spat, even though it didn't exactly make sense to do so.

The Samsaran stepped back from the enemy kobold and was surprised to feel his wound already closing. He felt behind him for his floating disk so that he could maybe board it. "Pebble, would you get over here and help already? I can't see! I need you to guide me!"



Standard: Attack kobold with dagger. Misses due to concealment (at the very least).
Move: 5-foot step to F13 and onto my Floating Disk, if possible. I will otherwise stay where I am if it is impossible, or would provoke an AoO, or trigger the trap.
Other: familiar will rejoin me in my square.

The Kobold fencer's bravado proves to be its undoing, and it's reckless advance leaves it open to a brutal series of strikes from Veana and Puck.  Run clean through the torso by Puck's spear, it makes one last stubborn attack against Koji, wounding the berserker again before succumbing to it's wounds.

The mage lets out a howl of rage as it's teammate falls.  Calling up a mass of supernaturally cold frost, it hurls the snowball into Koji's chest.  Frostbite painfully spreads across the half-orc's body, turning her exposed flesh black and purple.

Meanwhile, the ambusher targeted by Uluchi freezes up in a different way.  Completely paralyzed, it stands stock still, with the exception of it's eyes, which dart frantically across back and forth as it struggles against the enchantment holding it.

The other ambushers continue to do their best, but prove rather ineffective against opponents that can defend themselves.  One takes a few weak swipes towards Sandy, while the other leaves a pair of shallow cuts on Koji, adding just a bit more damage to her long list of injuries.

OOC: Koji forgot to check if she hit an image or the real sorcerer.  She attacked the real thing, meaning she didn't destroy an image.  Also, Puck couldn't have attacked the Fencer with his longspear from there, but he could have swapped out for his regular spear with quickdraw.

Puck noticed that his party member, half-not-person Koji, was bleeding like cut pig and the wicked wizard-lizard was still standing, thus he muttered a prayer to forest spirits and let go of his longspear with one hand, where a handful of ripe berries appeared.
He stepped forwards announcing loudly to the berserker!
"Good food, Koji, will help!"

OOC: Puck quickdraws material components!
Puck casts Goodbery spell, gaining 7 berries.
Puck makes 5' step to M17.
Puck uses move action to feed Goodberries to Koji, should heal him 7 HP.

Sandydale turns around after seeing the Kobold paralyzed, and finds himself facing another. "Good timing." he comments to Uluchi. Without that, he would've been in a very bad spot with two Kobolds flanking him. Now, with the advantage of not having to watch his back, he sidesteps the swipes of his attacker. He takes a step to get out of being sandwiched by the two lizards and towards the other half of the fight.

If it weren't for her ancestral training and heartiness Koji would have succumbed to her wounds.  The fencer who had struck him before almost took out her achilles tendon with a well-timed strike.  The other small kobold poked her twice.  Thankfully, or perhaps not so thankfully she was blasted by the wizard with a frozen ball of something.  It blackened and bruised her flesh but she held true to her position... somehow.

A second later Puck had shoved berries in her hand and he instructed it was food.  She barely registered the comment though she did put them in her mouth and chewed on the sweet berries.  Another blast of healing washed over her bringing her to fighting health just a second after.  Koji could feel her limbs once more but was still a little slow.

Eat the goodberries.

As Koyrai sat atop his floating disk, he listened to Uluchi's draconic words and had a good guess as to what it meant. The kobold was targeted by a spell and (hopefully) would be vulnerable. Even so, Koyrai asked his familiar to confirm his suspicions. "Is the guy who stabbed me still in the same spot?" he asked Pebble. The mute familiar bopped him lightly on the head for yes. "Then what are you waiting for? Go get 'em." The ioun wyrd flew out to deliver a tiny attack even as Koyrai himself cast an Acid Splash cantrip at the kobold and floated his disk over to the other side of the entrance.

Veana feels the light wound inflicted upon her by the kobold she left behind begin to close as Sandydale's life magics mend the damage. She is capable of mending her own wounds of course, but not having to do so meant she could focus her energy elsewhere.

With the fencer down for the count, she moves closer towards the mage and strikes against the kobold closest to Koji in the process, her longsword biting into its flesh and drawing some blood in the process.

"Better give it up while you can," she calls out, but it is unclear as to whether her words are meant for the spellcaster or the rogue nearest her. Perhaps they are meant for both of them?

OOC: Move to N19, Standard action to attack Ambusher 3 for 5 damage.

With at least some of her magic finally taking its intended course amongst the enemy, Uluchi gives Sandydale a brief smile and nod, her eyes focused past them and on the other skirmisher; bringing the weight of her Power to bear.

The smile turns to a grimace as she gets again a toe-hold instead of the full grip on the fate of the creature that she was hoping to secure. Gesturing towards it with her gauntleted fist, she hyper extends a thumb and slices the air near her own throat.

A single cautious step towards the small reptile and she unhooks the curved blade from her belt.

Standard: Evil Eye on Ambusher 2 targeting Saving Throws;

The kobold in front of Veana looked about ready to take her advice and surrender, but the Mage behind it simply laughed.  It sneered at her, it's reptilian face multiplied by it's illusory doubles.  "Give up?  Why, so you can kill us faster?  No, if I have to die, I'm taking this greenskinned oaf with me!"

It backed up a bit more, then hurled another magical snowball at Koji.  This time however, the spell sailed harmlessly over the half-orc's head.

The mage's bodyguard took advantage of Koji eating the goodberries to take another few strips of skin out of her legs, also backing up slightly as it did.

While the paralyzed kobold struggled frantically against it's magical bonds, it's nearest ally stepped in beside it, frantically swinging in an attempt to ward off the attackers.  One of it's stubby blades clanged against Pebble's rocky body, drawing sparks but doing little damage.

Well, Koji seems to be hanging on for the moment. That means it's a small opportunity to go on the offensive. Sandydale points his right arm and fingers straight down and whispers "Shimsha". This moment of focus, unfortunately, creates an opening for the kobold in front of him.

OOC: Unless the ambusher takes the AoO here, and manage to deal 5 or more damage the following will happen.

STANDARD: Cast Shocking grasp.
FREE: Deliver charge to Ambusher 2. Dealing 6 damage.
MOVE: Move to M19


His arm start to crackle with lightning and with a swift motion reaches the kobold's armor, electrocuting the reptile down to unconsciousness.

He glances at the paralysed kobold and figures that the mages got this, and dashes behind Veana.

OOC: Otherwise the concentration roll is failed and the spell fizzles. Which would be followed by these.

Veana shrugs in response to the mage's words.

"Have it your way," she says as she continues to give him chase, unconcerned with the other kobold she had just struck, moving past him and leaving herself open to its attacks as she focuses on the spellcaster.

She swings her blade at the bastard, hoping to strike true, or at least get rid of one of the mage's pesky illusions, which is what ends up happening as her steel strikes at one of the illusory copies.

OOC: MOVE to R18, STANDARD to attack Kobold Mage for 7 damage and ends up destroying one of the mirror images.

Seeing that Koji seems to regain some colour, even if it was awfuly Orcish, Puck stepped by the berserker and smiled nastily to the kobold who was just abandoned by it's wizard buddy.
"(Draconic)Die, die, chicken-meat!"
Then stabbed it in the gut, making the kobold's beady eyes bulge out in a realization it's death is inniment!

Then Puck pulled back violently, and followed sedately to flank Veana and menace the kobold mage with a spear dripping with the lifeblood of it's kin.

OOC: 5' step to N18.
Attack Kobold Ambusher 3 vs AC 24, 10 piercing dmg.
Move action Q16 and look menacingly.

Unsure of how she managed to not get hit by the next snowball, Koji grins wide as she sees her companions attack the ambusher and the mage.

Since she wasn't feeling uneasy(staggered) anymore, Koji moved forward past the ambusher as he took a nasty attack from Puck and straight to her opponent, the mage.  Instead of doing a downward chop with her blade, like last time, she instead swiped it across hoping it would kill the mage dead!  "Die! Kobold DIE!"

Hit the mage woot woot and killed the damn thing!  HP 11  Move to R17

"Pebble, do your thing, then get back. More fire is on its way!" The tiny familiar slammed into the paralyzed kobold as hard as its little body could manage, then retreated above the other kobold that Sandydale had (hopefully) electrocuted to death. No sooner had the familiar moved than a blast of flame was evoked blindly by Koyrai, engulfing the paralyzed kobold. The flames were notably hotter than the last time he cast the spell too. Like the arcanist had put some extra oomph into his spell.



Pebble
Full-round action: Perform a Coup De Grace against ambusher 1. Deals 2 damage to ambusher 1. It made its save to resist dying though.

"Morah Lingrah." Another draconic command, this time directed towards the second of the pair of kobolds the backline mages are dealing with. Uluchi takes a quick step out of the range of the swords, sliding her entirely decorative blade away before gesturing and intoning.

The victim obediently calms down, ceasing all activity for just a moment. With the enthusiastic slaughter commencing in all parts of the battle, a moment is hopefully more than long enough.

Battle 1: The Marauder's Cave

In a flurry of violence, the remaining kobolds are quickly finished off.  Puck's target is speared through the guts and falls to the ground shrieking, while Koji's heavy sword catches the mage square in the chest, splitting it's breastbone with a sickening crunch and sending it tumbling to the floor.  Meanwhile, the duo facing the party's spellcasters are battered, burned, electrocuted and enchanted, leaving them barely conscious and thoroughly disabled.  Even if they were capable of defending themselves anymore, it was clear there was no fight left in them.

OOC: Congratulations, you win!  Feel free to roleplay what you do in the battle's aftermath if you want, while we prepare for the next fight.

When the battle had concluded, Koyrai floated through the cave slowly on his Floating Disk, letting Pebble help guide him. He didn't have to worry about tripping, but there was always the possibility he could bonk his head on the ceiling, or run into a wall, or fall down a hole. "Normally this is about the time I would start searching the bodies for magic items, but it is difficult to search when I literally cannot see. Am I the only one who ended up blinded? Or are we all going to have to stumble our way home in the dark?"

Having finished his pathetic attempt at sympathy and pity, Koyrai's tone changed to a more practical one. "If anyone would like me to cast any of my spells for them, just let me know. I can swap my spells once or twice more, and can manage one or two more castings as well. I'm probably not going to be much help beyond that though." At the very least, he could cast another disk to help carry back their spoils of war.

A twinkling laughter erupted from the forest outside and made Puck look sharply with dumb expression as if asking if it's about him? He made peaceful gestures towards the witch, Uluchi Sesa, who heard him rambling about forest spirits during their meetings. That and that dwarves and orcs are bad and she shouldn't trust them tree-burners.
"Must go. Will return."

Before leaving, Puck gifted everyone in the party with a Goodberry ... and seems to follow some tiny, moth sized, glowy and half-transparent existence into the deep woods.

And like all rangers dissapears behind a tree to thin to hide him properly, figures.

OOC: Puck visits forest spirits for his level up. It's pure nonsense. Expect pranks. ;)

Once the last of the enemies have been dispatched, Uluchi briskly moves around the cave, peering into corners and sifting through the kobold's possessions; with the blade of her kukri, no point getting anything nasty on her gloves much less her hands.

"Koraav Lah."

A brief incantation in Draconic to illuminate magic auras so she can direct the separate handling of the truly valuable gear from the camp. At Koyrai's continuing plight, she glances his way with a slight frown.

"Still cant see? Not a short lasting one then, like the spell I use."

Moving over towards him so as to not have to shout their conversation, she reaches out her left hand to touch his shoulder, "We've got this in hand, no worries. If you've truly lost your sight, do not despair. I could set you up with a Pact to gain Sight; or Sight Beyond Sight, no point in not grabbing with both hands right? Let me know once we've got back to town if I need to arrange an introduction."

With her right hand, Uluchi waves to Puck as he begins to depart, "Grind vod golt, gein sul." (Draconic, meet me at the place we met before in one month)

Koji had a crazy look on her face as the dead mage fell to the ground and the images disappeared.

"Wow, these little buggers were not easy at all!  Thank you for those timely heals guys!  I sure could have died there if not for them."

Koji had released her rage and was breathing heavily while propping herself on the large stone she had jump up on.

A month later, when Uluchi Sesa arrived at the forest clearing she met the wild elf for the first time decades ago an adorable tiny viper with unnaturally amber eyes, just like a certain elf she knew, was sunning itself lazily in a dedicated sunny spot on a low hanging branch.

When she stepped forwards, a trap activated and from the leaves above a tiny cage on a rope fell. Nervous looking chimpunk was terrifyied inside.

Snake looked her in hte eyes, and winked. Before throwing an acorn on her witch-hat with it's tail.
OOC: Yes it's Puck. And if Sesa wants? The chimpunk could be one that gifted her with black eye thanks to it's sniper-throwing with acrons several seasons ago. Or just another jest from Puck.
Who obviously survived his spirit trial, gained a boon and prettied up for hte meeting.

Veana returns to her natural form once the battle is over. "Those pesky little bastards were more trouble than I thought," she says to the others. "I'm glad we came out mostly unscathed out of that one. We'll need to find someone to deal with Koyrai's blindness. Maybe a cleric back in town? I'm afraid blindness is beyond my healing capabilities."

She offers a small shrug before flicking away the blood from her longsword before sheathing it. She had heard Uluchi's offer, but whatever that whole pact thing was sounded a bit fishy as far as she was concerned.

Searching the kobolds' cave hideout, the party finds a sizeable collection of stolen goods, along with a number of raw gemstones that the raiders seemed to have dug out themselves from...somewhere.  They also find a pile of discarded human bones, covered in knife-marks and scorched from a cooking fire.

Back in Caliphas, the local temple of Pharasma is more than happy to heal Koyrai's eyes, in exchange for their usual fees.
