Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

As the party's tracker, Puck was well aware that trying to hunt down their enemies directly was probably a lost cause.  The manticore could fly, the phase spider could become ethereal, and a satyr's own knowledge of the wilderness was a match for Puck's own, especially in the Satyr's home forest.  It could lead them on a merry chase for days, if it wanted, leading them into a variety of hazardous terrain and beast dens until the party was exhausted and vulnerable.

Fortunately, the party didn't have to find their enemies if they could make the "forest defenders" come to them.  The ruins of Estig's Point was a full day's hike from the nearest village, and was rapidly being reclaimed by the forest.  The roofs had been knocked off of every building and the wooden floors torn out, leaving only bare earth below.  Mortared walls stuck out from the earth mostly intact, having apparently been deemed too much effort to demolish completely.  Lighting a bonfire in the early morning would serve as the necessary bait, and after that, it was simply a matter of watching and waiting for the creatures' response.

This response came a few hours before nightfall, as the faint sounds of piping came drifting over the trees from a distance.  Despite the usually light sound of pan-pipes, the music was fast and threatening, and an obvious threat.

OOC: This time the fight is coming to you.  You can place your characters anywhere you want, and can make any preparations that could reasonably be done in a few hours.  You may start with any spells or effects lasting at least one hour already active.  I can extend the map beyond what is shown here if you want, though it's fairly dense forest in every direction.

The trees are large conifers, and block line of sight.  You can move through the outermost squares of a tree: while within these squares you have cover, but are also entangled.

The building walls are approximately 8' tall, and 1' thick.  The stone fence along the paths is waist height, and can be vaulted with a DC 10 acrobatics check by spending 10' movement, or with a full move action and no check.

The well has no guard rail, and is a 50' drop into deep water.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Koyrai's heart began to beat faster as the sound of pan pipes began to fill the air. It meant the battle would start soon. A battle Koyrai was not certain they could win. But considering they had an ambush prepared, the mage thought their chances were good.

In preparation for the oncoming battle he had bestowed Mage Armor on himself, cast a Floating Disk, and consumed an antitoxin. He also used his Arcanist abilities to then swap out his armor spell for an illusion spell, and his disk spell for a deja vu spell. He cast his Silent Image over the campfire area while remaining hidden himself, peeking over a tall wall. The illusion was of a well-armored dwarf sitting on a blanket between the well and the fire. The dwarf was sharpening an axe as if preparing to challenge the local intruding monsters. Koyrai's hope was that the monsters would try attacking the illusion before attacking any of his very real party members. Also, the illusion could potentially mask any traps Puck may have wanted to place under the blanket below the dwarf's butt.

Koyrai remained in hiding, keeping his illusion active with his concentration. His familiar waited with him, watching his back. It was almost time...

Koyrai and Pebble are at Q23, hidden. He should be able to peek over the 8 foot wall from atop his floating disk. His illusion is currently at O16. The spell's area should allow it to move anywhere around the fire or well though, if Koyrai wishes. I will spend an Arcane Reservoir point to bump the illusion DC up to 18.

Preparations:
Cast Mage Armor on self. (AC 17)
Cast Prestidigitation on self.
Eat an antitoxin (+5 on fort saves vs poison for 1 hour).
Consume a level 2 spell slot for 2 Arcane Reservoir (AR) points.
Use an AR point to swap Mage Armor for Silent Image.
Cast Floating Disk.
Use an AR point to swap Floating Disk for Deja Vu.
Cast Silent Image, using 1 AR point to increase the DC by 1.

Edit: Adding stealth roll.
16:03, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 4 using 1d20+2.  Stealth, with Aid.
Forgot to add the aid bonus, so the result is actually a 6. Apparently Koyrai is not a good hider.

Edit 2: I forgot to mention casting Floating Disk in this OOC section. Added it now.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Puck spent last few hours preparing trap, costing him two of his noisy fire-things that Sesa prepared, who knew magic could produce watery thing that explodes like flammable sap and isn't sticky?

Satisfied with his work, he helped others to properly hide, even if wizard's hat poked above the stony ruin he hid within ... he just looked with surprise for a moment before deciding that he doesn't understand wizards, and proceeded to climb the tree he picked up first. Readying himself and making sure that he's covered by the branches.

He made some owl noises when he was ready. Waiting for the approach of the enemies. Satyrs are very nasty spirits, hairy like dwarves !

OOC: Puck hides on G20, up on the tree ~15' to 20', DC 22 for Perception.
Exploding trap(with Burning upgrade) on O16, intended to hide under Silent Image, Reflex DC 11, d6+2 fire damage on all adjanced squares second Reflex save or you catch fire for d4 rounds for d6 fire dmg per round. Takes full-round action to extinguish fire on yourself, alongside successful Reflex save.
Feral Focus Stealth +4, Dexterity +2.

07:59, Today: Puck rolled 22 using 1d20+16.  Stealth check.

Koji had picked her spot because it was close to the interior of the former village.  She could get there quickly and hoped to put a foe down quickly.  She had all two potions laid on a stone for easy access once she heard something.

Make her initial hiding spot U18 and ready to rumble, blade in hand and 2 potions on a stone and 1 in hand.

17:30, Today: Koji D'agh rolled 22 using 1d20+3.  Stealth.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Without too many preparations to make ahead of time, Veana stood against a wall of one of the ruined structures, not far from Koyrai. She held her shield in one hand, but her sword remained sheathed for the time being. Her other hand held a potion, which she was preparing to drink at the first sign of danger. She did her best to hide within the structure, pulling her cloak over her head, but she wasn't particularly subtle as she stood there in her full plate armor, holding a heavy steel shield.

OOC: Her initial "hiding spot" will be at O24.

11:24, Today: Veana rolled 9 using 1d20-5.  Stealth? LOL.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Uluchi looks up from her ersatz collection of ferns, mushrooms and moss at the sound of pipes. A moment later and she rises smoothly to a standing position, brushing off the debris collected from her seat on the aged wood.

Peering around the corner of the building she notes the dwarf, giving the apparition a brief nod and casting her hooded gaze out across the rest of the camp and then the woods out beyond.

Above her gloved hand air becomes mist and in turn coalesces into crystal ice, slowly growing while she waits for a target.

Initial location: L7
Initial Stealth: 16:51, Today: Uluchi Sesa rolled 1 using 1d20. ; Hit the button before writing out what it was for; but with modifiers, a 15
Ongoing buffs: Blood-boiling pill, already correct on round status

Turn 1:
Standard: Ready, Action: Fire Cold Blast w/ Extended Range at enemy, Trigger: Obtain LOS to any enemy (defined as creature that is not a PC/familiar/companion/illusion created by a PC)
Move action: Change from sitting to standing.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Arashi stood inside one of the ruined buildings, leaning on a wall that seems somewhat solid. His arms were crossed on the makeshift armor of force, already threatening destabilization. In each of his hands, he held a scroll. More hung from the strap of his bag, each contained within a small box. He had burned a small fortune for this battle alone, but it was an investment. Hopefully, one that will pay in both gold and glory.

OOC:
Initial Location: H12
Stealth: 7
Hodling Scroll of Cat's Grace and Eagle's Splendor.
In scroll cases are scrolls for 2 Delay Poison and Summon Monster II

Prep:
Lifelink is established for everyone except Veana.
Cast Mage Armor from Scroll. (requesting Koyrai's assistance cuz I don't wanna roll for UMD)
Use Antitoxin

Rolls:
Arashi rolled 7 using 1d20+4.  Aided Stealth.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

The party spread out through the ruins, making their preparations and concealing themselves as the distant pipes alerted them.  Then they waited.  And waited.  Ten minutes went by as they crouched behind the ruined walls, then twenty.  Then thirty.  Then, just as she was starting to wonder if the Forest Defenders would be a no-show, Uluchi heard the faint sounds of movement coming from the forest to the east.  She could make out a single snapped twig from just behind the nearby ruined wall, and the flapping of leathery wings as a massive creature flew in low, just over the treeline.

Before the Vishkanya could shout a warning or react, however, the manticore revealed itself by hurling a barrage of tail spines at the illusory dwarf camped out near the fire.  The razor-sharp spines flew straight through Koyrai's illusion and into the wall behind it.

The Satyr likewise emerged from the treeline, playing a magical lullaby on it's trademark instrument.  Arashi and Uluchi felt themselves becoming very sleepy, but summoned all of their willpower to remain awake.

Watching the enemies approaching from the east, Koyrai found himself completely caught off guard as a truly enormous spider materialized directly behind him.  It lunged at him, but his magical defenses were just barely able to deflect it's spear-like fangs from finding purchase.  With a hiss of frustration, the phase spider vanished back into the ethereal plane.

OOC: Only Uluchi succeeded on her perception check (after distance modifiers,) but didn't beat the enemy initiative of 12.  So after the enemy surprise round (which just happened), Uluchi can take a standard action for her turn in the surprise round, and Puck, Koyrai, and Arashi can take their full turn, because they beat the enemy initiative.  Koji and Veana will not act until after the bad guys take their first full turn.
Satyr:
FREE    : 5' step from G2 to G3
STANDARD: Play pipes to affect everyone within 60' feet with sleep.  Uluchi and Arashi are affected, but both make their will save.

Manticore:
STANDARD:  Fire spikes at illusion.

Phase Spider:
FREE    : Phase in (using ethereal ambush to take full turn)
STANDARD: Attack Koyrai, miss with a 13.
MOVE    : Phase out

No lengthy chant or preparation, just a lancing beam cold itself spearing the air in the vicinity of the Manticore but unfortunately not piercing him. Following it back to Uluchi the exertion of being the locus of such magic is already making itself visible.

The shard of ice that precipitated the attack grows larger by the second, floating in an orbit around her body which is half-covered in a layer of frost; giving her a two-toned appearance of white and blue.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

"Ahhh!" Koyrai shrieked in alarm as the large phase spider suddenly appeared to take a bite out of him, then just as quickly disappeared again. He did NOT want to stay where he was to let that happen again. Knowing the spider would need to phase in again to take a swipe at him, Koyrai risked exiting the destroyed structure he was in so that he could take cover elsewhere. He and Pebble went to hide behind the ruins Koji was in, and dropped his illusion in the process. The illusion had served its purpose

Once in position, Koyrai prepared to cast a spell. If the phase spider had decided to phase in to swipe at him, Koyrai would send a spider swarm its way by casting Vomit Swarm through his familiar. Otherwise he planned on sending a Magic Missile toward the manticore, since it was the only other enemy he could easily target from his hiding spot. Regardless of the spell, the arcanist opted to boost its power a little.

Koyrai
Free: Shriek in alarm.
Move: to S21 (through the hole at O22)
Standard: Cast a spell, using an Arcane Reservoir point to boost its caster level by 1.
If the phase spider solidified to take an Attack of Opportunity, I will cast Vomit Swarm through Pebble and Pebble will send the swarm to its squares (3 damage, plus 1 Str damage from poison). If no AoO, I will cast Magic Missile at the manticore (9 force damage).

Pebble
Move: to S21
Standard: Maybe Vomit Swarm at phase spider, maybe nothing.

Potential Rolls:
06:12, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 1 using 1d2.  Potential Str damage from poison.
06:11, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 9 using 1d20+8.  Potential DC 11 fort save vs poison.
06:08, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 3 using 1d6.  Potential Swarm Damage.
06:07, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 9 using 3d4+3.  Potential magic missile damage.

Note to self: I haven't marked off the spell used yet. I marked off a level 1 spell.

Arashi shakes his head almost violently to resist the enchanted lullaby. A yawn escapes his mouth but otherwise, he manages to remain wide awake. He turns to the satyr and asks "Are all your tunes this boring?" in Sylvan. He takes a step inside the building to put a wall between him and the satyr immediately after. He doesn't really want an arrow in his face after that comment.

After breaking the line of sight, Arashi unfurls the scroll in his left hand and starts to read it to release the magic sealed within.

OOC:
Free: Speaking to Satyr
Free: 5-ft step to G12
Standard: Activate Scroll of Eagle's Splendor, targeting self.
Move: Not taken, but I forget if I need another hand free for scroll activation. If I do I drop the other scroll as free and retrieve it after casting with the move action.

Re: Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

The satyr snorts in response to Arashi's jibe. "I was trying to be merciful."  It called out, it's voice a deep, smooth baritone.  Through the crumbling wall, the goat-man's eyes met Uluchi's.  She could feel power welling up in it's words as it addressed her directly.  "Are these ruins really worth your lives, mortals?  Just turn around and go home, right now.  I promise no harm will come to you."  The words struck the Kineticist's mind with the force of an irresistable command, but once again, Uluchi was able to shrug off the Satyr's attempts at mind-control.

Meanwhile, the manticore soared forwards.  It ignored Uluchi, apparently hoping she would succumb to the satyr's magic, and instead homed in on the one other person it could get a clean shot on: Veana.  Two of it's four tail spines slammed into her with jarring force.

Before she had any time to react, Veana was attacked from the other direction, as the Phase spider once again materialized in front of her.  It's jagged fangs pierced through a weak point in her plate armor, leaving a bleeding wound and injecting it's deadly venom.  Fortunately Veana's blessed constitution protected her from the worst effects of the poison.

OOC: Puck's trap was not detonated last round, and is still at O16.

Satyr:
STANDARD: Cast Suggestion on Uluchi: "Just turn around and go home, right now."  Uluchi succeeds on her will save.
MOVE    : Move to F9 (using tree as cover)

Manticore:
MOVE    : Move to P-Q, 11-12
STANDARD: Throw spines at Veana.  Two hits for 11 and 9 damage.

Phase Spider:
FREE    : Phase in (using ethereal ambush to take full turn)
STANDARD: Attack Veana, hits with a 27 for 13 damage. (Veana succeeds on save vs poison.)

Re: Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

"To grant Mercy, first you need Power."

Taking a step back, Uluchi raises both of her hands over her head, wrists crossed. The layer of frost on her body thickens and descends, spiraling tendrils of white blossoming around her feet.

Uncrossing her arms, she begins to lower them to her sides in a swift motion with the ice responding to the movements of her body. Tendrils of frost become tentacles and redouble into waves that reach the closer half of the tree between her and the Satyr. The stones of the ruin she is in groan and crack, shift and resettle as their temperature plummets in seconds as the entire building sparkles with ice for half a second.

Fwomp.

Her hands have reached her waist, with her head tilted back, face turned towards the Manticore. The ice, the frost, the cold collapses in on Uluchi faster than it spread, giving the building another rattling cry of stone and wood under intense stress. The gathered power is released from parted lips in another brilliant beam towards the flying beast; this time landing true and leaving discolored hide behind from burst blood vessels that were flash frozen.

Free: Banter w/ Satyr, Five-foot step to M7
Move: Gather Power
Standard: Cold Blast w/ Extended Range on Manticore, Burn supplied by Gather Power.

Re: Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

"You want to see power?"  The Satyr responded to Veana's taunt.  "Here's some power for you!" He strode boldly into the center of the clearing, and played the magic lullaby again.  The results were probably a lot less than the fey was hoping for: Nearly all of his listeners resisted the attack on their minds; though there was an audible crash of an armored body hitting the ground, followed by loud snoring as Koji fell unconscious in her hiding place.

The Satyr glared down at his pipes, as if was their fault the party kept resisting his magic.  His musing was interrupted as the manticore swooped down towards him with a strangled cry that sounded half like a roar of bestial rage, and half like a shriek of confusion and horror.  The mind-controlled Manticore bit into it's ally, drawing a surprisingly small amount of blood.

There was no sign of the phase spider.

OOC: Koji's protection from evil potion will only protect her from the manticore.  The other two enemies aren't technically evil.

Satyr:
MOVE    : Move 40' to F9 (using tree as cover)
STANDARD: Play pipes, sleep effect at DC 18.  Puck and pebble are immune to sleep, Veana and Koyrai make their saves, Koji falls asleep.

Manticore:
MOVE    : Move to K-L, 12-13, land on ground
STANDARD: Bite Satyr, hit AC 18 for 6 damage (1 after DR)

Phase Spider:
Turn Unknown.

"Pebble, let's swarm them," Koyrai said to his familiar. Having the enemies clumped together was an opportunity he didn't want to pass up. Pebble got into position even as Koyrai began casting his spell. When the arcanist finished his spell, he touched the tiny construct so it could take on the burden of being the spell's source. A swarm of spiders erupted from his familiar and immediately scurried toward the satyr and the manticore.

Koyrai would have loved to observe the horrific sight, but he rushed toward Koji instead. He had heard the woman fall, and so wanted to see if there was anything he could do for her.

With their foes distracted or nowhere to be seen, Veana called on the powers of the light once more to continue mending the wounds she had received. As the wounds continued to close, she summoned the powers of her angelic heritage to alter her natural form.

Her angelic beauty and pristine appearance was suddenly replaced by white fur, her face growing a canine snout filled with sharp teeth. With the appearance of a wolf-like humanoid with piercing blue eyes, Veana drew her blade as she darted forward to engage their enemies, moving faster than she had been able to before thanks to her canine legs.

After seeing the satyr face the teeth of his ally with a glee, Arashi abruptly stops and looks around. Just where did the spider go? It didn't chase Veana after wounding her, for some reason. Then he heard the Koji fall after the enchanted lullaby. "No." he gasped as his mind assumed the worst. He quickly stepped towards the other side of the bonfire. Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

After invoking his protections and spiritual blessings, Puck noticed that satyr's magic disabled Koji and smirked in amusement, even if it was somewhat inconvenient. He decided against attacking the manticore and called forth a summon, so the forest spirits can masquerade as an animal and play. He frowned upon seeing Koji just laying there defencelessly.

He forgot to take chalk and coal, loss of such opportunity to make her have otter's face !!!

Re: Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

The satyr stumbled back from the manticore's jaws.  "What are you doing?!" the fey yelled, fear and anger creeping into it's voice, combined with frustration at the seeming lack of effect his magic was having.  He swung about to point an accusing finger at Arashi.  "You did this!  Let him go!"  The satyr swung an arm in the kitsune oracle's direction, and his deep baritone once again filled with magic.  "BEGONE!" A wave of supernatural fear washed over Arashi and Veana, attempting to wash away all thoughts in a flood of unthinking terror.  But Veana's mind was shielded from such things, and Arashi's will held as well.

The Manticore snapped at Arashi's retreating back before once again turning on followed behind it's own ally, clearly struggling against the magical compulsion.  It snapped it's jaws down onto the satyr's arm, but once again only drew a tiny amount of blood.  Perhaps it was managing to hold back, just a little?  Or perhaps the mounting damage from uluchi's blasts and Koyrai's spiders was taking it's toll?

Meanwhile, Arashi's fears were proven well-founded as the phase spider materialized, hunched over Koji's unconscious body.  And worse: while the Oracle had correctly predicted the monster's movements, he had misjudged the DISTANCE.  Whether he had held back out of fear to get too close to the spider's position or he had simply made a mistake, Arashi found himself mere feet away from being in range to save the bloodrager's life.  The whole party could only watch in horror as the phase spider picked up the sleeping half-orc, tilting her head back almost tenderly before plunging it's massive fangs up through the base of her skull and into her brain.  Koji twitched once, twice, then was still.

A cheer came from the other two monsters at seeing the largest and strongest of their opponents slain without a fight.  The phase spider dropped Koji's lifeless corpse to the earth, locking eyes with Koyrai where he stood on the other side of a stone doorway.  It drew one long, insectiod leg across it's throat in an apparently universal gesture and spoke one raspy, inhuman word.  "Neeeexxxxxt."

OOC: The phase spider didn't have a chance to phase out, so it's actually around for the full turn.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

As Koyrai watched the phase spider dispatch Koji, the mage's face twisted into an expression of horror. He had been too late to wake her, and Koji had paid the ultimate price. "Nooooo! Kojiiiiiii!" Even as he wailed, Koyrai drifted backward atop his floating disk. He wanted to put the well between himself and the monster that had just said he was next (and a trap between himself and the satyr).

But the spider was currently exposed, and Koyrai did not want to pass up that opportunity. With some arcane words and magical gestures, he cast a magic missile at the monster with as much oomph as he could manage.

Meanwhile, Pebble quietly directed its swarm back toward the manticore and satyr. The satyr's damage reduction once again proved impenetrable to the swarm, but the manticore was drained of the little vitality it had remaining.

The jeers of the Satyr draw Uluchi's attention away from her task and to the distant arachnid form of the Phase Spider. Its not a good clear look, thanks to the remaining walls of the ruin, but the outcome is clear.

"Lamashtu's tits, even the way you kill is ugly."

A handful of warring instincts; focusing fire and finishing off a weakened and dangerous foe versus an opportunity to attack an elusive target that you might not get such a clear opportunity to try again.

Tendrils, tentacles and waves of frost wrack the stones of the building next to Uluchi once again, the cacophony is 'quieter' than last time since it doesn't engulf the entire building this time. The spear of cold lances the distance between her and the spider, cast with deadly intent.

The satyr's face contorted in shock as his manticore was shot down right in front of him, then covered in a carpet of venomous spiders.  Backing away from the mayhem with a series of nimble hops, it took cover in the nearby ruins.  "Good job!"  It called out to Arashi, it's voice a passable approximation of friendliness.  "The battle is practically won, and all thanks to your magic!  You can just turn around and go home now.  Your friends can handle this without you." As strange as it seemed to be taking advice from one's enemy mid-battle, Arashi had to admit the faerie had a point!  He had done his part, and was totally justified in leaving the rest of the battle to the others!

Meanwhile, the wounded Spider lashed out at Veana, drawing more blood from the paladin, just as her previous wounds closed completely.  With a snarl, it once again faded out of reality into the ethereal plane.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

"I think it is time we try heating things up, Pebble," commented Koyrai as he stepped closer to the bonfire. Pulling out his spellbook, the arcanist read by firelight and performed a few mental tricks that would let him memorize a new spell in place of the swarm-spewing one he currently had.

Meanwhile, Pebble continued to direct their swarm while hovering just over Koyrai's head. The swarm scurried over, under, and around the unconscious manticore and around both sides of the wall the satyr went to hide behind. Alas, the satyr's tough exterior continued to be impenetrable even as the spiders did their best to pierce the fey's defenses.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Arashi hums shortly. It does make sense that the battle is won already. The manticore is down and he just watched the spider getting diced by all sides for the mistake of remaining materialized for more than a moment. "Alright." he says as he begins the trek back to the village nearby.

OOC:
MOVE: Movement to W16
STANDARD: Not taken

Arashi expects a day's worth of walking, so he won't tire himself by double-moving or running.

IMMEDIATE: If the spider either materializes or moves next to Arashi, he will stagger-proof boots to AC16

Meanwhile the irate eagle pursued the satyr with indignant squawk.

Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Veana let out a wolfish snarl when she was struck once more by the devious spider. However, she didn't waste time and healed her wounds once more using the power of the light. Since the damn spider was nowhere to be seen again, she chose to move backwards towards her allies and closer to the satyr.

Once she was in position, she invoked the divine powers of the light again. She began to radiate brightly, as the light emanated from her, bolstering her resolve and that of her allies in the surrounding area.

"We will not be defeated," she called out to their foes. "For the power of the Light stands with us!"

OOC: SWIFT to LoH on herself for 11 HP.
MOVE to O17.
STANDARD to spend 1 use of LoH for Power of Faith.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Power of Faith causes a nimbus of light to emanate from the warrior of the holy light in a 30-foot radius. All allies in this area (including the warrior of the holy light) receive a +1 morale bonus to AC and on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws against fear as long as they remain in the area of light. This power lasts for 1 minute.

Re: Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

Uluchi's blast drew a scream of pain from the satyr as her magic froze his flesh.  Hurt, covered in spiders, and cornered by magic birds, the fey's bravado faltered.  With a frantic yell, it rushed through the group surrounding it, hoping to open some space between it and it's enemies with long, leaping strides of it's goat-like legs.  It dashed to the other side of the ruins, taking cover behind one of the crumbling walls.

While the desperate situation made the satyr more cautious, it seemed to drive the phase spider into more reckless aggression.  Appearing directly beside Koyrai, the beast plowed into the frail spellcaster, piercing his body with it's long, venomous fangs.  Koyrai's veins burned as the poison worked it's way into his system.  Apparently willing to abandon it's hit-and-run tactics, the massive arachnid wrapped two of it's legs around the samsaran, holding him in place while it readied a second bite.

"Sssha!"

A bestial hiss from Uluchi accompanies the heavy thwack of her gauntlet slamming into the temple of the fleeing beastman's skull. The kinetic energy isn't enough to slow down the foe and the spikes of her weapon fail to gain any purchase or draw blood.

"Zu'u fen krii hi."

Slipping into the tongue of dragons to communicate the stoked depths of her rage, Uluchi moves around the building rather than through it, hoping to get a shot at the back of the coward in a few seconds hence.

Meanwhile the arachnid clutching Koyrai gets half her attention. Unfortunately for the creature that is in the form of a thin white line connecting her outstretched palm and the center of its cephalothorax between its front and rear set of left legs. A patch of hoarfrost sprouts up on and around the spot, spreading to cover nearly half of the nearby legs.

Koyrai was bent over with a hand on his wounds as he pulled out of the dying phase spider's grasp. He was heavily injured and was not feeling well internally either. He could feel the poison inside. He needed to get to Arashi. Arashi was a good healer. But first...

"Pebble, I need you to burn the baddies on my behalf." The arcanist cast a quick spell on his familiar, then stumbled toward Arashi.

Pebble moved to try and get a line of sight on the satyr and use its newfound fire powers on it.

Koyrai
Standard: Cast Burning Gaze through Pebble, using one AR point to increase its level (making it last 5 rounds instead of 4).
Move: to U15
Free: talk
Other: made my save vs poison at the end of the turn. (1 of 2)

Pebble
Move: to P9
Standard: Burning Gaze at satyr, if possible. It made its save. I don't believe cover affects the effect as long as Pebble can see the satyr at least a little bit, but am not certain. If the satyr is not targetable, Pebble will target the dying phase spider instead.

Re: Battle 2: The Wrath of Nature

The party rushed forwards, cutting down the phase spider before it could land the killing blow against Koyrai.  As the arcanist extricated himself from the unconscious monster's grip and stumbled after Arashi, there came the sound of rustling undergrowth from behind the wall to the west.  Hearing his last ally fall, the satyr disappeared back into the forest from which it came.

OOC: The battle is won, though there are a few concerns left to deal with.  First is Koyrai's poisoned wound.  Having made one save, there's no longer any risk of him being reduced to 0 Constitution, so he'll live as long as someone deals with his HP damage.  I'll let everyone list their actions after combat, before Koyrai makes the remaining 4 saves to see how much damage the poison does.

Second is the Satyr.  Between his 40' move speed and the party dealing with Koyrai's wound, chasing him immediately isn't feasible.  But tracking him down is.  Following his trail requires a DC 20 survival check (15 for firm ground, +5 because he's trying to hide his tracks.)  If you succeed, the four active party members corner him in his lair and he surrenders.

The big owl flew over to the staggering Kyorai and landed before him with a whish of scattered leaves, with Puck standing up from a crouch with a satchel covered in strange letters that knowledgeable people would recognize as Fey alphabet, allready pulling out small clay jars. Including glass jar with very big looking leeches.
"Witch guy, I help with poison fangs first! Iron skin wolf-girl will heal you."

The feral elf, because without a doubt he's as wild as the satyr who's probably fleeing from them, declared with his habit of not-naming people directly. Said satyr was slowly heard less and less while chased by the eagle summoned by Puck.

OOC: Puck first will do a Heal Check 30 to assist Kyorai with his poison saves. Yes it was a natural 20. RNGesus must accepted the sacrifice of spider's life. ;)

I pre-liminary rolled also Puck tracking the Satyr. Take note that he can track Satyr by scent, too. 26 is sufficient to not let the satyr escape even if Puck hampers himself and doesn't use scent tracking. Puck is safe to track down Satyr if we roll out within 6 hours.

Plus he needs to disable his traps, of course.

With one companion already fallen, Veana was not about to let another meet the same fate. She rushed towards Koyrai as Puck tended to the poison coursing through the Samsaran's body. She assumed her natural form once more, before uttering a brief prayer in Celestial. She then place a hand softly on Koyrai's wounds, allowing the light she emanated to travel from her fingertips towards the wounds, slowly mending some of the damage the Arcanist had suffered.

"I hope this is enough until we can get back to town," she said to Koyrai and Puck. "We should also give Koji a proper farewell." There was a hint of sadness in her voice.

Puck scrunched his nose a bit, then pulled an shovel out of his endless quiver of anything ... and handed it to Veana. Upon seeing how her healing gift working poorly by her displeased expression the wild elf offered advice. While feeding Koyrai a handful of magic berries himself.
"Witch-boy, eat berries good for you. Iron-skin wolf girl? Maybe ask Shaman Snake-Woman about proper sacrifices to appease light spirits? Maybe they unsatisfied with ya. And don't worry about the goat-leg fleeing. Spirits blessed me with his scent trail."

Elf's smirk as he transformed his nose to a similarly wolf one as Veana currently have? Positively predatory.

"I know not goodbye rituals for Fire-Blooded's spirit. Ask Shaman Snake-Woman?"

OOC:
Life link should keep Koyrai in the positives, it would outheal the poison even in the worst case.
Life link cannot down Arashi, Koyrai isn't missing that much hp. But even so, Healer's way should keep Arashi topped.
Spamming Lesser Restoration (3 round casting time) on Koyrai to out heal the con damage. Might not match the speed, but I don't think it can kill now. After the poison is done, even more lesser restorations to undo the damage done. (I have 4 slots left)

"I don't have any antivenom on me; if we were in my lab..."

Golden eyes cut to Arashi as he continues to move and she heads his way instead of joining the group fussing over Koyrai.

"The satyr's magic will take time to fade, worry not. I'll accompany you until it does."

To Veana as she passes her by, "If you bury him here, please mark the spot so I can return to it."

Moving to catch up to Arashi, she will match her pace to his. The ice crystal that was floating in her wake begins to melt and crack with occasional delicate tinkles.

Uluchi follows Arashi as the healer makes the slow trek back towards civilization.  He doesn't completely shake the enchantment off until nightfall, with the ruined shrine far behind them.

Meanwhile, Puck, Koyrai, and Veana take up the trail of the escaped satyr.  Despite the fey's efforts to cover his tracks, the trio eventually tracks him down to a hiding place in a nearby cave.  Cornered and defeated, he raises his hands in surrender.

"Bah!  Fine then.  Let them rebuild their temple, and open the way to more of your wretched kind.  At least I don't have to live to see the day your people come with axes and turn my sacred woods into carts and tables."

He stood with his cold-iron dagger held threateningly in one hand, and his other hand ready to bestow Burning Gaze upon Pebble in a moment's notice. It would be his last non-cantrip spell for the day, but the satyr didn't need to know that.

The arcanist waited with interest to see how the satyr would handle Puck's proposition.
