Re: Battle 4: Knights of the Post

One breath. In. Out. The scent of many horses and men gathered in one place, cloying, sticking to her tongue. The words between Patagogi and Vladimir wash over Uluchi without drawing her out of malaise and yellow eyes observe the blossoming fireball, the wheeling, screaming, the exultation of a dark lord.

As the manure stench is literally seared away, replaced by burnt hair and charred flesh finally the serpentine woman reacts.

"Dir."

The draconic incantation is weak, soft-spoken and rushed as writhing serpents of water sway their mistress a few feet away from the closest horse and its attendant knight. Still, the scant moisture of the air and earth respond, icicles coalescing in the air and frost flowers blossoming on the grass before flying through the air as a barrage that impacts the knight with a series of loud pings and creaks, denting and piercing the metal that fails to protect him.

OOC:
Five-foot Step to R15

Re: Battle 4: Knights of the Post

Even though Patagogi knew this wasn't a good idea he had given parlay a try. It was obvious that the knight wasn't in a mood to talk once a fire exploded around him and his men. Patagogi looked to his left and gave a wry grin. "Well done!"

His glee was short-lived though as the knight recovered and healed his men and then they charged. All before Patagogi could bring his weapon to bear. Patagogi tried to dodge the blade of the man but he just couldn't do it quick enough. Then the damned horse bit him as well. This threw Patagogi into a rage and he slashed out with his blade not once but twice at the man on the horse.

Free Action: Rage and 5ft step to P20
HP48+6(fast healing)+12(rage)=66

Full attack: Hit AC30 for 17 damage on Templar 6
Hit AC23 for 19 damage on Templar 5

05:36, Today: Patagogi rolled 30,17,23,19 using d20+12,2d4+12,d20+7,2d4+12.

"You weren't supposed to heal..." muttered Koyrai. Then, more loudly, he added, "Let's try this again!" He wove another empowered Fireball spell and sent it flying to a point just behind the leader. He wanted to avoid catching his allies in the blast.

Even if the Lord spent more time healing up his friends, Koyrai knew that that would be less time spent killing Koyrai's friends.

Koyrai's Actions
Free: Talk. Spend an Arcanist Reservoir point to boost my next spell's caster level.
Standard: Cast Fireball as caster level 8 at the intersection of X-Y/16-17. It should hit the Lord and templars to either side of him.
Move: None.

Damage:
Lord Olinescu takes 14 fire damage.
His bull takes 29 fire damage.
Templar 2, templar 7, and horse 7 take 29 fire damage.
Horse 2 takes no damage.

Pebble is taking no noteworthy actions.

09:17, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 24,12 using 1d20+6,1d20+7. Lord and Bull DC 19 reflex saves.
09:16, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 24,9 using 1d20+6,1d20+6. Horse 2 and 7 DC 19 reflex save .
09:13, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 17,6 using 1d20+2,1d20+2. Templar 2 and 7 DC 19 reflex save .

Re: Battle 4: Knights of the Post

Puck dropped his bow, and tindertwig suddenly was burning in his left hand and a small voodoo skull's close cut fuse was lit by the elf. He then threw the hissing device at the bull of Lord Olinescu !

The grenade exploded in the face of the bull steed who moaned painfully, but Lord Olinescu managed to shield his face with armoured gauntlet and majority of the sharpnel pinged off his armor. Blood gushed from the bull and Lord Olinescu's cheek also shown injury.

When Kyorai glanced at giddy elf, Puck grinned.

With a burning tindertwig he twirled while walking forwards to stand in front of the wizard.

OOC: Free Actions: Drop Longbow+2 at S18, Quickdraw Pellet Grenade, Iron. Quickdraw Tindertwig.
Lit the grenade, throw at War Bull 21 vs Touch AC. War Bull fails Reflex save, Lord Olinescu succeeds. There is nobody within 10' around to take 6 Piercing, 6 Bludgeoning and 1 Fire damage. Lord Olinescu takes half damage.

Puck uses 5' step to move in front of Kyorai to T17.

23:27, Today: Puck rolled 13 using 3d6. Pellet Grenade piercing, bludgeoning and fire.

23:26, Today: Puck rolled 16 using 1d20+6. Lord Olinescu reflex save vs 15.

23:26, Today: Puck rolled 12 using 1d20+7. Bull reflex save vs 15.

Battle 4: Knights of the Post

A sharp whistle from Taliesin is followed by Fandor darting towards the man he pointed at - Lord Olinescu. While the lord was still disoriented by the explosion, the dinosaur's jaws found a weak spot in his ornate armor. The weak-looking jaws managed a surprisingly large cut on the man, seemingly leveraging their speed instead of their power.

After his whistle, Taliesing took a glance around the chaos of mounted knights charging around them. "Favorable terrain, eh?" he tells no one in particular. "But nothing is taken for granted with nature." He takes a couple of poison ivy fruits and spreads them around while muttering "Eiddew gwenwyn."

Quickly after the grass around the road burst with tall wild plants, wrapping around most creatures that they touch. The cobblestone road proved a decent barrier to the growth spurt, shielding him and some of his allies from the green assault.

OOC:

Fandor:
Full-round: Charge Lord (with Piranha Strike) moving to V16, attack hitting AC 30 for 14 damage.

Taliesin:
Free: Handle Fandor
Move: Not taken
Standard: Cast Sickening Entanglement at S-T,16-17.
Patagogi, Uluchi are both in the area and fail their Reflex saves, gaining the entangled condition.
All Templars except 4 are in the area. Templars 1,2,5,6,7 fail their Reflex saves, gaining the entangled condition.
All Horses except 4 are in the area. Horses 1,2,3,5 fail their reflex saves, gaining the entangled condition.

Entangle gives a -2 to attack rolls and a -4 penalty to Dex (-2 to most things related to Dex, including ranged attacks and AC).
Casting spells while entangled requires a concentration check (DC 15 + Spell Level).
I believe this entangle stops movement, as the plants are anchored to the ground, but Gorum can correct me on that.
Entangled creatures can attempt to break free as a move action, either with Escape Artist or Strength check against DC 18.

40-ft radius area, except on the road, around the spell target is difficult terrain.
Anyone entering the area or remaining there when Taliesin ends his turn must save again (Reflex DC18) or be entangled.
Anyone entering the area or ending their turn there must save (Fort DC18) or be sickened, this is a poison effect.

Sickened gives -2 to attacks, damage, skills, saves, and ability checks.
Sickened condition lasts until 1d4 rounds after they leave the area.

Rolls:

Taliesin rolled 14,10,16,21,14,23 using d20+6,d20+6,d20+6,d20+6,d20+6,d20+6. Horses 1-3, 5-7 Reflex vs DC 18.
Taliesin rolled 3,8,18,9,10,17 using d20+2,d20+2,d20+2,d20+2,d20+2,d20+2. Templars 1-3, 5-7 Reflex vs DC 18.
Taliesin rolled 15,10 using d20+13,d20+5. Uluchi, Patagogi Reflex vs DC 18.
Taliesin rolled 30,14 using d20+13,1d4+12. Fandor Charge Attack and Damage.

Re: Battle 4: Knights of the Post

The wound Veana had taken from being trampled closed almost immediately, and the paladin stepped forwards, slashing at the nearest horseman and drawing a stream of blood as she landed a hit on the templar's leg.

Meanwhile, Lord Olinsecu slid off of his dying mount, nimbly landing on his feet at the massive bull fell and backing away from Fandor's attack. Holding up his holy symbol, the corrupt noble locked eyes on the Troodon and began to chant quietly. "Lord of beasts, lord of lies. Give me dominion over this savage animal, so that it may do your will." Fandor stiffened slightly, before it turned around to face Taliesin with murderous intent in his glazed eyes.

The surrounding horsemen, those that were still conscious at least, struggled to free themselves from the grasping grass around them. One pulled himself free from the writhing vegetation and attempted a clumsy lance-thrust towards Taliesin. The rider facing Veana drew his longsword and slashed back at her, his weapon clumsily bouncing off of her armor. The Templar still outside of the entanglement made a move to advance back into the fray, but quickly found himself locked down and unable to move. The last templar still in the fight managed to push his horse back up to Patagogi's position and land a solid blow from his lance.

Three of the attacker's horses were left unguided by their masters, who slumped unconscious or dead in their saddles. Two of these horses broke free from the grasping vines and ran, carrying their dying riders away across the plains. One of them, unable to break free, continued to snap at Patagogi, drawing more blood with it's strong jaw and wide, flat teeth.

Veana:

REACTION: Fail save vs sickness

Templar 7
MOVE : Break free from entangle
STANDARD: Attack Patagogi, hits AC 18 for 12 damage.
REACTION: Succeed save vs sickness.

OOC: Fandor has been dominated and will attack the party. For situations like this where PC turn order is important, we'll use the order of the previous turn. Since Fandor last acted after everyone but Taliesin and Veana, it will take it's turn after everyone but Taliesin and Veana has acted.

The Templar's challenge ability gives them +4 damage against their chosen target, +2 dodge AC vs the target, and -2 AC vs all other enemies. AC modifiers are NOT included in the statblock.

Puck pulled another shrunken head with a small cut-off cigar, lighted said cigar on fire with the tindertwig and threw it at Lord Olinescu, who crouched momentarily behind the laying bull.
Explosion barely nicked him but tore big hole in the body of the bull, letting fountain of blood splash everywhere and making the pained breathing of the injured animal stop.
"Quickly kill him before he heals others again !"

Puck pointed dramatically at Lord Olinescu with the tindertwig.

OOC: Puck quickdraws pellet grenade, lits it on fire and throws at Lord Olinescu touch vs AC 27.

Though Uluchi's feet stay in constant motion with the surging water snakes to avoid being snared by the aggressively acquisitive greenery, her left wrist brushes against a sprouting tendril and is quickly snared.

Another tentacle of greenery lassos her waist a moment later and the ice mistress must take a moment to respond, her body and both clothing shimmering with rapidly forming and melting ice, letting her slip out from the grasping grass and onto the road.

Battle 4: Knights of the Post

"I think it is time to give you something to focus on, Pebble," Koyrai said to his familiar as the two of them drifted across the sky. Koyrai's disk wouldn't last much longer, but hopefully they could end things here quickly.

Enhancing his power once again, Koyrai cast a spell and bestowed it upon Pebble. The little mouthless construct somehow magically vomited up an enormous swarm of wasps that flew toward Lord Olinescu to pierce the cleric with their stingers. "Let him deal with that!"

Patagogi was surprised by the sudden appearance of the vines that sprung up around the area. They grabbed hold fast before he could move to get out of the way. Then the damned crazy horse bit him again. The templar had also got in a lucky strike on him while he was trapped.

His predicament didn't last long as he flexed his muscles and broke free of the vines. Not wanting the wiggling things to grab hold again, Patagogi moved out and away from the horse and found a clear spot on the road to go to.

Patagogi pushes through the enchanted undergrowth, leaving himself open to another deadly lance thrust and painful horse bite. Meanwhile, the dominated Fandor advances stiffly towards his masters position. Taliesin's magic boots carry him to safety, though leaving it until the last moment earns him a savage bite to the backside as he retreats. With Taliesin out of reach, the Troodon turns it's attention to Puck, ripping into him with it's teeth and claws.

Battle 4: Knights of the Post

"Argh!" Taliesin grunts after creating some distance. He had trained with Fandor against mental influences, but apparently, it wasn't enough. He turns around and instantly points his rod roughly at Fandor and yells "Glaw llyffant!".

After a heartbeat 4 frogs, each one the size of a man, drop from thin air around the Troodon. One after the other, they fling their elongated tongues at Fandor. The dinosaur dodges the first one. The second one connects, but Fandor wrestles it off. The third one strikes just after and while the Troodon distracted from a flurry of tongues manages to wrap around and restrain him. The last frog tries to bite Fandor, but his attack is completely off target while the dinosaur is brought dragged to the third frog.

Taliesin looks sadly at the dinosaur and says "I'm trying to not hurt you, friend."

OOC:

Taliesin:

Re: Battle 4: Knights of the Post

Seeing Taliesin's deadly animal companion turn hostile, Veana swore in a somewhat unpaladin-like fashion. "Hang on, I'm coming!" She shouted, before turning her attention back to the enemy in front of her. With a battlecry and a burst of holy light, she stabbed her longsword up through the unprotected groin of the templar. Turning away from the rider, who had slumped over the neck of his horse with an anguished groan, Veana rushed south to help hold off the threats there.

Stumbling backwards through a cloud of grenade shrapnel and stinging insects, Lord Olinescu chuckled darkly. "Why did have to tell you my name?" He asked, in the tone of someone amused by their own stupidity. "It was totally unnecessary, and now I can't even run away!" With a sigh, he raised his holy symbol again, calling on Baphomet to banish Taliesins choking vegetation. On cue, the writhing plant life immediately withered back to it's previous size and harmless state.

"Nah, it was a good moment, boss!" One of the surviving riders replied, seemingly unconcerned with how the battle was going. "Woulda made a great story if we won." The templar thrust his lance in Uluchi's direction before riding some distance from the party.

"What's this "if", coward?" Mocked one of the others, finally charging into the fray with a lance aimed at Puck's head. The wild elf barely ducked the charging point, and his attacker swore.

The third remaining templar was silent as he circled Patagogi, stabbing the half-orc once again with his lance.

Templar 7

OOC: Everyone can act now, Fandor will act on the enemy's turn.

The Templar's challenge ability gives them +4 damage against their chosen target, +2 dodge AC vs the target, and -2 AC vs all other enemies. AC modifiers are NOT included in the statblock. Note that the penalties stack, so templar 1 takes -4 AC because of his multiple challenges.

Battle 4: Knights of the Post

With the Fandor constrained, maybe temporarily, Taliesin takes the time to close his eyes and concentrate for a second. His skin quickly turns into scales as he opens his eyes. Without waiting a moment, the druid starts to coordinate the frogs he conjured. He orders one frog to keep on Fandor and separates the other three on three different targets, the closest two templars and the Lord.

After the orders, the Frogs jump around and launch their tongues to their targets and all of them connect. The Lord is momentarily wrapped with a Frog tongue momentarily, but oddly the tongue cannot find a grip even with a complete wrap. One templar deftly pulls the tongue away from his armor, but the other is not so fortunate and is pulled down from his mount.

OOC:

Taliesin:
Standard: Totem Transformation (scales), +2 natural armor and able to talk to reptiles/dinosaurs.
Free: Talk to the Frogs to coordinate them

Frog 3:

Puck stepped back towards Veana, then leaned down and picked up his bow from the side of the road. Pulled the string and let loose an arrow, he again had in his hand as if by magic, aiming at the Templar shouting at Patagogi.

Arrow embedded itself in Templar's shoulder with a loud thud, staggering the knight.

OOC: 5' step to S17, move action to pick up composite longbow from S18. Free to drop tindertwig.
Quickdraw arrow, shoot Templar 7 vs AC 28 for 7 piercing damage.

Koyrai studied the battlefield from above and quickly decided on his next move. "Pebble and I will take care of Olinescu. You guys handle the rest!" His friends already seemed well on their way to doing exactly that anyway.

The arcanist called upon his internal reservoir once again and cast a burst of force missiles at the enemy cleric. The Lord was then quickly overrun by Pebble's swarm of wasps, bringing the man down. Hopefully for good.

Koyrai
Free: Use an Arcane Reservoir point to increase caster level of my next spell.
Standard: Cast Magic Missile at Lord Olinescu at CL 8 (4 missiles). He is dealt 15 force damage.
Move: None.
Note: I believe next round is my last round to remain airborne.

Pebble
Standard: Direct the swarm to AB-AC, 17-17. It deals 10 damage. I didn't bother rolling for distraction or poison since he should be unconscious now.
Move: None.

Battle 4: Knights of the Post

Freed from the entangling vines, Uluchi casts a clincal eye to the battlefield, noting the fall of Lord Olinescu with a slight nod, sidestepping a barreling knight and his horse by sliding out of the way of the sailing lance-point meant for her head.

"Gaan-"

The water, mist and ice covering her body and swirling around her feet abruptly stops moving, each previously motile component freezing in place.

"-Unslaad-"

The warmth of the air on the road is robbed, each breath coming out as a smoky haze of ice crystals that swiftly grow heavy and fall to the ground with a glass-like tinkle. For dozens of feet in each direction, hoarfrost rises from the ground, causing the road to groan with the stress.

"-Krah."

A thunderous crack of snapping ice, seeming to come from Uluchi herself as her own body flexes unnaturally under the stress of the power she is channeling, but the result is clear as the woman summons a Lance of her own, sickly green and white, piercing the back of the distance knight who just tried to attacker her, drawing forth a gasp from the sudden cold that literally pierces his body, the tip emerging bloody red from the front of his cuirass so he can see his own impending death.
Move: Gathering Power
Standard: Kinetic blast targeting Templar 1; Form: Extended range, Substance: Venom Admixture, Metamagic: Empowered. Base burn: 4, -1 Infusion Specialization, -1 Gathering Power, -1 Internal Buffer (Depleted to 0/1), Uluchi takes 1 Burn and 6 Nonlethal damage.

Effects of poison:

06:26, Today: Uluchi Sesa rolled 1 using 1d4. Duration of Stagger on initial Vishkanya Sleep Venom.

Battle 4: Knights of the Post

Patagogi knocked his opponent's head from his shoulders, while the enemy leader slumped over from Koyrai's magical assault. The distant Templar thought better of his planned charge and stead galloped away, gasping and reeling from the shard of ice jutting from his torso. The last of the men-at-arms, dragged from his horse by one of the magical frogs, struggled and fought to the last, but was quickly overpowered. The summoned frogs swarmed Fandor, pinning his struggling body under a pile of rubbery flesh until the nobleman's magic had run it's course and Taliesin's was able to regain control of his pet.

And with that, the short battle was over. The lone survivor of the ambushing cultists fled across the open plains, while the unguided horses milled about in confused panic, still carrying their dead and dying masters.

OOC: You win! Feel free to roleplay how you all deal with the aftermath of the battle while we get set up for the next fight. Right now, the leader is unconscious and dying, t1 is about 260 feet away from the party with 2 hp, and it's up to you whether you took T4 alive or dead.

Koyrai flew higher on his disk while he let Puck take a shot. But after seeing the man's first arrow miss, the arcanist sent out one last fireball toward the fleeing templar. Even as the fireball enveloped its target, Koyrai's floating disk winked out of existence beneath his feet and he began to fall. Thankfully the ring he currently wore ensured the fall had a soft landing and he floated to the ground like a feather.

Pebble had withdrawn their swarm from Lord Olinescu after the cleric was rendered unconscious, but the swarm of wasps still hovered above the enemy, ready to finish the job if required. "Should we take Lord Olinescu in alive or dead?" Koyrai asked. He could see the value in both options.

Casting Fireball at the fleeing templar. High enough in the sky to miss the horse, if that would be reasonable. If not, I will include the horse in the blast too. They both failed their saves and would take 19 fire damage.

06:03, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 19 using 6d6. Fire damage, with correct dice (for real this time).
06:00, Today: Koyrai Dellex rolled 14,10 using 1d20+2,1d20+6. DC 19 reflex saves for templar 1 and horse 1 vs fireball.

Goodberries for everyone in the party ... enough to push us above 50% HP collectively, or each gets +8 HP.
