Campaign Discussion...Setup

A thread where we can discuss various details of the game.



Stuff already figured out:
Race: Everyone gets to pick one, even if you're already planning on being Hume.  Hume and Moogle are already part of the game (even if no one picks them).  I'm thinking no Half-Breeds, though.

Things I'd like to suggest
Infinite Gil Storage: Money (and possibly consumables) no longer consumes space.
Turn Based, Line Combat: Like FF9, which means that feats like Precise Shot are no longer necessary.   Single target affects only one opponent, while area effect affects all (either enemies or allies, depending on the effect used).
Magic Item Creation/Equipment Upgrades: No longer take days to do.  Possible suggestion of replacing days with minutes.
And Speaking of Money: Each opponent drops an amount of gil when defeated.  Alternately, Gil is automatically awarded at the end of each encounter.


Stuff we need to decide on before getting started:
Attributes: How are we going to determine this?  Point buy or rolling (and what kind if rolling).
Starting Level: What level do we want to start on?  Do we start at level 1 or some higher level?
Optional Rules: What optional rules (if any) do we want to use.

Here's my suggestions, please feel free to make your own.   Or tell me that I'm a loon.  :D

Attributes: Heroic Method (2d6+6) with the option of replacing the lowest with an 18.
Level: Level 2.
Suggested Optional Rules: Hero Points, Variant Multiclassing.

In addition, I'd like to select Gria as my choice of Race.

I do have a  pretty good idea of what I wan to run, I just need to adapt it to fit the story, and it was built under a 20 pt buy.

My preference is pt buy but I could accept that rolling method, particularly if there was the option to re-roll or do a pt buy if the initial rolls turned out poorly.

As opposed to the variant multiclass there was an older version of dual class the system had at one time where you chose two classes, your main progressed normally and your secondary at half speed that has some interesting effects on gameplay (think of it as a limited gestalt of sorts).  That being said I think these classes are complicated enough without adding other classes into the mix.

I'll likely be going with Au Ra for my race.

As far as level goes while it might be helpful for anyone new to the system to start at lvl 1 I tend to like level 2 or 3 since that seems to be when you get the last of your core class features and game play gets fun.

Here are my thoughts:

  1. Attributes: Down for Heroic Method suggested by the Storyteller
  2. Level: Level 2 or Level 3 would be my preference to start, just less squishy overall
  3. Suggested Optional Rules:
    • Hero Points: I am a fan of this
    • Variant Multiclassing: I feel like this is a good system honestly, the trade off feels good and I think it allows people the variety they want without forcing others who want to single class from feeling underpowered.

  4. Race: On the subject of Race are we saying the Races we pick are the only ones in the world? Or are we going to include all the Core races and then get to add one Base/beastman/Monstrous race to the list?
  5. World Lore: Are we keeping to strictly Endiness lore?

Not actually familiar with Endiness lore.  It's one of the few FF settings I dont think I've heard of.

Figured I'd do the rolls and see how I did with them and Good God!  They were actually decent for once!

My thought was that the only races that were in the game were the ones we selected, but that's open to change.
As far as World Lore....it's not going to affect what I have in mind if we do or if we don't.
