Osram left the last decoy in reserve and moved to try and help Andre.

Though he realized the engineer was working on the problem from the software side, rather than the mechanical side as Osram would have done.

Still, he tried to do what he could.

Osram rolled 18.  Assist (cypher).

Brink of the Verge - Part 1

Andre and Osram work quickly to get the crycube to hurry its procedure before it failed. It seems to have worked, but now, whatever or whoever was in there was waking up and the cryocube itself was about to shut down. However, they'd saved the cargo just in time. The cube whirred as it continued the process. But they could hear the other cubes suffering the same failures. There were 5 more to fix and they were still locked up in crates! Fortunately, Val was helping (+2).

Skip has trouble feeling the emotions of the other pilots. In the chaos of it all, the emotional state was just scattered everywhere causing him to miss a cue with an enemy fighter. His powers were a double-edged sword sometimes.

Fortunately, Ed managed to hit the oncoming fighter before it could land anything on them.

Andre kept focused on the cryo cubes, his vest assisted in righting cargo with spidery armature limbs so it may not be much but it could save a few seconds on this next one, "That one is done. Thank you both! Let's do this one next!"

Andre Klanktonne rolled 23 using 2d20+6, dropping the lowest dice only.  True inclusive roll- cypher for cryo.

Osram kept doing what he was doing, trying to help Andre stabilize the cargo.

Though he did keep one eye on the no longer potentially explosive unit which was going through defrost.  He hoped they could finish with the rest of them before that cycle completed and they had to deal with whatever was inside.

Osram rolled 20 using 1d20.  Assist (cypher).

As you get further and further into deep space, the warship slowly dims from your scanners. Nearly everything does.

Lance turns on the comms.

Captain Lance: "Alright, we're clear of immediate danger. Systems check and headcount. Everyone still alive?"

The engineer kept checking on the cryocubes and wished people might have gotten more info about their assailants but there was a lot going on. He wasn't about to point fingers or blame. He just hoped that NOD wasn't now so gone that the gremlin was about to vent then all. It seemed that if that were inclination and option it would have happened already. "We are a bit scuffed up from dumpster diving and I- we tried to save as much of the cryo goods as possible. I'm a bit disappointed about it myself but there was just too much for me to do. Also, NOD has been at least partially over written by our resident Gremlin, I think. The thing was living energy and I'll start analyzing the semifluid membrane that is left in the battery charger. I'll take responsibility for that though I'm not sure how much it will modify our AI outcomes yet. At least I should be able to use my tablet to safely navigate the system without spreading it. It happened all at once."

NOD/Gryftrr: "You worry too much, gearhead. I'm fine. Never felt better. Just a stretch and a nap will do me some good." *Yawn*

The entire ship's hull seems to creek and shiver as the AI pretended to yawn, as if the ship itself were stretching just a little.

Captain Jhenko: "NOD, do a self diagnostic."

NOD/Gryftrr: "Sorry, can't hear you. Going into sleep mode. Nighty night."

The ship's systems begin to shut down except for life support and other necessary systems. The crew would still have access to devices that have their own batteries (such as their personal computers, local comms, data pads, most doors, thrusters, carried devices, etc.) but bigger systems are now shut down (primary engines, long range scans/comms, shields). They are maintaining their course through space despite the engine shut down but that's normal for most travel.

Captain Jhenko: "What the f---Andre. We're going to need to examine the computer core in Engineering. Can you and Osram take a look after you're done with those cubes?"

Edwin was about to shut down the turret when NOD decided it was suddenly nap time. He just sat there in the chair for a few moments letting the excess adrenaline dissipate. Eventually getting up he made sure the turret control were shut down so if NOD woke up it wouldn't suddenly come back online.

He seriously thought about a nap but at the moment there was too much to take care of. So he headed to cargo bay to see if he could be any help.

Stopping at the door to cargo he looked inside, "Anything I can do to help guys?"

As the resident engineer problems were Andre's stock in trade, "Any good with computers? I mean we may need a decent warden depending on who comes out of that cube in a bit..." He gestures to the one that was on early release. "Packers did something wrong... Second rate parts or some such. None of them should have had problems. It doesn't look like an intentional defrost though. I think we managed to restore stasis on some others but I had to jury rig some bits on most of them."

He made an inclusive gesture, "Diagnostics on the core and analysis of the gremlin's physical remains are the remaining chores for me. Oz and Val have been lifesaving hands in here."

After getting himself a cup 9f coffee, or whatever sludge happens to pass for it aboard the ship, Skip heads to the cockpit to see the captain.
Cap'n, I got some bad news for you, he says after chewing on a sip of coffee.  Those ships weren't planetary forces come to bust up a a black market operation.  Those ships were from some sort of criminal organization.  I couldn't tell which one.  Not like they advertise.  We were likely caught in the middle of some attack by a rival gang.

As he was passing through on his way to coffee he stopped and listened he had hands in pockets and an unlight cigerette  dangling precariously from his lips. "Ain't gonna find nothing interesting about the body, everything interesting is in NOD now."

"This one looks like it's done and gone."  Osram commented about one of the cryocubes that went into meltdown and was now leaking all over the floor as it rapidly defrosted.

"Maybe we should crack it open, have a look.  Might let us know what's in the others, and if it'll be a problem."  He suggested, looking to the others to gauge the general feelings towards such a plan.

They'd already lost some of the cargo, which would be the Captain's problem when they got to whoever was supposed to be taking delivery.  Couldn't make it much worse at this point.

She begins rummaging through her bag of magic tricks and medical supplies as the smell of strange spices and exotic dried animal parts emanated around her.

"Ed and Oz. Can you open up one of the survivors? I'll do a bio exam to make sure it's safe. Everyone seal up your suits just in case there's something toxic in there."

She seals on her helmet.

In reply to Gill Rurry (msg # 271):

"Good point Gill. But we'll have to get to that later. Out or in? We're gonna seal up the cargo hold in a sec for quarantine purposes. Hopefully it's nothing."

Capt. Jehnko (Comms): "I suspected the same the moment they started shooting without announcing their presence and telling us to stand down. Cops would've at least pretended to give us the chance to surrender and taken a few of us alive to boost their career. Which is why escape was our primary objective. Now we need to repair quickly and try to figure out how to get back without bumping into them again."

"We got the one that's already on defrost.  May as well wait for that process to finish and the top to pop."  Osram reasoned in response to Val's request to access the contents of one of the undamaged cubes.  No reason to open up one of the surviving cubes that were still stable on ice.

He verified he was sealed up as he stepped over near where Val was getting ready to open up one of the busted units, so he could also see what was inside.
