Night City

Night City is a large-ish city on a large continent that is an analogue of Europe + Russia.  The city is part of a group of 7 cities, which form the Union of City States.

Being rather centrally located, and having been established along an ancient silk road, the Union is a really good place to do trade and business.  Much like Dubai and other Middle Eastern cities and states make themselves out to be in the real world.

Perfect place to be a hive of troublershooters and ne'er-do-wells.

Originally part of an ancient Dwarven kingom, Night City boasts the largest population of Dwarves on the planet. Nearly 67% of the population are Dwarves, Humans make up the next 10% or so, and all the other races combined make up the last 23%.

Approximately 25% of the city makes up the Noble Quarter, a Dwarves-only borough that consists of aristocrats, nobility and the ruling elite.  Pretty much a city in and of itself, the ancient walls are kept up to modern standards, and guards keep all non-Dwarves (with a few exceptions) out, by force if necessary.

Approximately 50% of the city consists of multiple race specific boroughs, though since the city's founding, the finely defined borders have blurred and blended together.  Unlike the Noble Quarter, there are no restrictions on whom can travel back and forth between these boroughs.

The last part of the city has been set aside for commercial and business interests, with a side of tourism.  Purpose built twenty years previously, the Trade District is a highly cosmopolitan area.  Corporations were invited to construct or purchase buildings for their headquarters, several religions built extravagant temples, other cities and nations established diplomatic buildings, and a wide variety of tourist areas were constructed.

The city is served by two international airports, one in the Noble Quarter, and another, larger one in the Trade District.

Night City

In ancient times, the city went by the name of Thortmanni, the name the Dwarves gave it on founding, as an outpost of a long fallen Dwarven empire.

It's modern name is Dortmond, which is found on all of the city's promotional materials, and in official maps.

Night City is a nickname long used by others to describe the city.  Originally for the wide range of unsavory activities available: theft, espionage, murder, fraud, and trade in illegal goods.  In recent times, the city has been covered over in a veneer of sophistication and legitimacy.  Now the city is a hub of nightlife, fancy restaurants, bars, cinema, music, cultural expression and more.

All that murder, fraud and theft?  It's still going on, under the shiny surface of neon and chrome.  You just need to know what to look for and whom to talk to.
