Re: OOC Thread

1. Okay so if we don't get any new people by the time I get up and start my day tomorrow (OR if we get exactly 2 new people), we'll start.

So you might all start thinking about what you wanna submit (via sending a private message to me) for Round One (see Rules thread).

2. I've decided that I'll hold off on setting any time limit on both/either submitting and voting. I'll do it if I ever need to... so please don't make me.

Re: OOC Thread

Here's a question can someone pose a powerful being or culture with some values that are evil so long as the culture or being is morally grey instead of black?

I... don't think so?

It's hard to say for sure without seeing an actual specific example.

But I'm glad you asked, because it makes it clear to me that I need to make a ruling:

ATTENTION: IF I DECIDE YOUR SUBMITTED CULTURE OR BEING IS TOO EVIL, I'LL TELL YOU SO AND YOU WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVISE AND RE-SUBMIT.

As opposed to just losing your opportunity to submit it.

Re: OOC Thread

Okay, that's it, I'm officially starting.

Each of you PRIVATE MESSAGE me your ROUND ONE submission starting NOW.

Then I will anonymize them and put them all in a voting thread so you can each subsequently vote on them (by private messaging me your votes).

(I will select my vote for a candidate first, once all submissions are in.)

One more thing-- don't make anything for Round One that could count as a Powerful Being.

Re: OOC Thread

Okay, this is not going as efficiently as I'd hoped.

I am going to impose a time limit.

Anyone who hasn't submitted their idea for Round One by Thursday morning when I get up will get negative-1 point for that day, and another for each day after that they don't submit it.

Quick Question how many points are possible? And what happens if the winner of the game either never wins a round or Has negative points at the end of the rounds?

Re: OOC Thread

Sorry, mid week stuff is hard for me to get to. I teach and that takes a lot of my time. But I'll make a point of getting my round 1 done today.

Apologies.

1. A particularly good question. In this round, THREE submissions will become canon. So, I will be telling people to give 3 points to one entry, and then 2 to another, and then 1 to another (because if I don't tell people to give out multiple points, I'm afraid that there'll be a run-off, and I don't want that). So guess if we all gave 3 points to the same person's submission, then 15 points are possible this round (since one can't vote for oneself).

2. I think it would be hard for the ultimate winner of the game to BE the ultimate winner of the game and yet to also never have any of their submissions get enough votes to succeed in any rounds.

2 (continued) But if anyone has negative points at the end of a round... then they have negative points at the end of a round. When I tally up their points at the end, those will count against them, and lower their final score. Can a person still win if they have negative points at the end of a round? Sure... But it'd be that much harder-- especially if it keeps happening.

Well, we started this round on Sunday...

Daryus:
I teach and that takes a lot of my time.

Based on past observations, I often suspect that something like 75% of RPol are educators (and/or grad students).

Daryus:
But I'll make a point of getting my round 1 done today.

Good idea.

Daryus:
Apologies.

Accepted.

I have everyone's post but Talon's... Talons has not logged in since Saturday...

I guess I'll start our voting Thursday...

EDIT-- unless Talons posts tonight or tomorrow of course, then I'll start instantly

Re: OOC Thread

Looking forward to some interesting ideas. Thought that four submissions would be problematic, but forgot the GM will also submit. So five submissions? Might need more for subsequent rounds if voting is to matter unless we modify the number of accepted ideas...

I know this type of freeform world-building stuff doesn't get a lot of interest, but I find that confounding.

Also, yes, it has also been my observation that a large number of RP nerds are teachers of some stripe.

We each give 3,2, and 1 points to 3 submissions that alone will make voting matter.

To avoid a runoff, give 3 points to one entry, and then 2 to another, and then 1 to another.

PM me your votes.

Do NOT vote for your own submission at all.

I mean I can't comment on how I find yours in particular interesting. Unless I went into detail on all, but even the most "boring" of them in my opinion holds a lot of possibilities. Since I can not confirm any entry is mine in particular I can't comment on them unless I did all of them. So yeah not going to happen until after the vote.

Yes, I expect post vote discussion. Though, even then, I might not admit which was mine. But I do like possibilities.

...Balance, why are you not voting? Please vote. You've checked in twice now since voting started, yet not voted.

Re: OOC Thread

Round 1 is done. 3 concepts are now officially canon.

ROUND TWO:
1 or 2 places (1 or 2 per player).

--Each player will describe a place that exists in the fantasy world. It can be general (a continent, a desert, an ocean, a moon) or specific (a city, a village, a tower, a clearing in the woods). The place can be somehow magical, or not.
--DO NOT SUGGEST THINGS THAT ARE EXACTLY LIKE A PLACE THAT ALREADY EXISTS IN D&D/PATHFINDER/ANYWHERE ELSE.
--Each player may create one or two places. Two places will give you more chances to get votes.
--Top six recipients of votes will become officially canon as existing in the fantasy world.

(I guess we'll do the same as last time:

To help avoid the need for a runoff, give 3 points to one entry, and then 2 to another, and then 1 to another.

PM me your votes.

Do NOT vote for your own submission at all.

EDIT: But that's all for AFTER we get all the submissions in. So start submitting! I've got mine ready!)

Any questions?

Geez, I lost this round too. And I thought for certain my Capybara idea would win the gold. But it seems their time shall come another day.

But at least the folks I picked won, congrats guys. Ooh, but be careful, I won't lose next round, maybe.

Oh, I forgot to mention the time limit.

Since this is Friday I guess the end of Monday, Midnight. My time zone. After that you'll lose points in the final tally.

"But GM, we don't know what time zone you're in."

Well then you'd better not wait that long then, right?
