I rolled it and you got a 1. At least its not a deadly spell. A goblin bard has low saves on spells lol. But man he's a good looking goblin (Cha 14)

Like he uses it on a enemy, casts Vanish and runs off. Well maybe not off. Dunno!

Curious: Does the fox form have Scent?

I looked up Kookaburra. Its a goblin not a bird :)

Pardon my confusion, but the last post where you mentioned what language he was speaking went like this:
quote:
"Hey! Who are you?" Of course this is spoken....

In Goblin.

Then he spoke again, giving a longer speech, and you didn't note what language he was speaking in. So neither post mentioned Draconic. If there's a joke in here somewhere, I'm missing it and I apologize.

Given the reactions of Kara, Kamatar, and Keeper, it would seem that none of the PCs seem to speak or understand Goblin. This is why I asked about the second soliloquy, 'cause if he's still speaking in Goblin, it's all gibberish to Kamatar (at least) and he's going to react accordingly.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Someone did mention that they saw (and the picture showed) what looked like water flowing though a river in or out of the cave.
Did we ever get an explanation or description of that?

As Kara observed before, it could be fresh flowing water. Kamatar did make a point about needing to find an independent source of fresh water,
since Keeper's ability can only create limited amounts.

As they've had some time to know more about the cave, our characters should know more
about that by now.

(Yeah, Kamatar likes taking baths too.)

If your character thinks he should, then by all means he is welcome to try (by the player). Now that Kamatar and Kara have stepped back out into the public area, I thought it would be nice to check in with how your character was feeling/thinking.

I realize that my character is a big mouth, but I think it would be cool if the character Keeper had more to say. That is, if he does have more to say.

I as player am just trying to make sure that Keeper doesn't get lost in the background unless that's what he (and you) want. :)

Well:

1. You aren't outside and haven't posted.
2. You don't know dinosaurs. Completely new to you. But can figure out types of dino by how they look, how they feed, ect. Could always come in handy.
3. Out of character its smaller then the ones in Jurassic Park (which they shouldn't have been that size-they were supposed to be the size of chickens or bigger). Probably made them that size for the fear factor

Also:
Sef is asleep. Its nighttime. Keeper and Sef are in the cave with the makeshift door.

Kam and Kara are outside the cave.

Its about 30' across and bout 15' away so really since none of the dinosaurs are attacking you (and your 10' away) you can just walk up to it and light a torch but that would be a full round action. Throwing your hair at the fire is not a very good thing, and yes using the hex ablity. You wouldm't have any hair afterwards.

Technically afteeards you could give Kam a torch once lit but that's 2 rounds. 1 round to walk over and light it. Another round to convice the half-orc to use it lol.

I thought Medusa had snakes for hair.

So I can only lift one thing at a time? These descriptions make some of these powers seem way cooler than they are.

Okay so if I use my hair to wave a torch it might catch my hair on fire? Why would that me likely. If I wave with my hand I dont run much risk of catching my clothes on fire?

Its not as broad as Medusa's hair like can't grab like 3 people and hold them. Its more of a utility type (can smack people though) like pulling out a potion and chugging it if your hands or full.  And its limited by going out I believe 10'? Plus its your strength mod so you don't have one.

Hair = Flamable.
Hair + Torch = Probably bad.
Hair + Torch + Whipping it around: Hair gets ignited (Pronbably)

Yeah I know Medusa. Both the marvel character and the make people turn to stone :)

I'd allow it. But I doubt you got torches lying around. Probably in your backpack which was at your bed. Course could just grab two 'logs' or whatnot. Torches last longer. But for what is going on, you want the quickest 'torch' as possible. Either way, going to the fire and fidning 2 'torches' would take a full round action but you'd have a torch in each hand.

Seferiz is welcome to the Grease potion.

I've got pretty good saves, so I think that the Potion of Resistance should go
to Kara (if she might need it), or Keeper otherwise.

Btw, it is in Kamatar's background, nature, and training to follow a leader or

Hello there!
*makes sincerest expression of sincerity*
The modified backstory for Keeper is that said kitsune stumbled into a magic pond. While exploring, so instead of being eaten by velociraptors, timey-wimey one-in-thousand-years-eclipse-that-was-last-week and magic happened making Keeper regress to previous, or future who knows ... certainly not Keeper, incarnation.

As a boy Kitsune. Who's happy that he's seemingly 60 years younger now! Och, no. MURDERLIZARDS, ESCAPE ESCAPE !!! Where I am? Curses on you God-of-Kitsune, but in most polite and flattering way indicating that I'm unworthy of such great honor of receiving your benevolent prank.

Now onto mechanics. *quadruple face ... leg and palm*

RNGesus almighty. My character making style is certainly not compatible with the previous Player of the Kitsune Druid. Or as compatible as matter and anti-matter?

I got headache when skimming trough it, and there will be changes in unacceptable parts. ^^

With that said, is everyone okay with eating Goodberries (for the foreseeable future) to avoid "ups you mistook those mushrooms for not-poisonous ones" ?

Well, I'm working it out. This is my first Pathfinder character so I can't compare it to anything. It's a complicated (for me) character but I'm managing. Narrator suggested something simple, but I'm stubborn. So I like it. I was hoping the freaky powers would be more useful, but I like freaky (Prehensile hair is so cool). Welcome to our new Kitsune! The Keeper that isn't Keeper but is a new Kitsune.
At least I hope your character is still a Kitsune. At least by your comments I take it to
be so.

While you are(re)making your character keep in mind that they are going to be spending
98% of their time a on an island, nowhere near any civilization. (Essentials will
be more valuable than GP.)

Eating Goodberries for the foreseeable future will work fine for my character.

BTW, my character is Kamatar Fletch. He's a somewhat charming, somewhat assertive,
and slightly romantic, Half-Orc Archer. However he is a good guy and relatively easy
to get along with.

He's a little bit taken with the female of our party so threatening her is also
likely to get on his bad side.

But otherwise he gets along with everyone. :)

And again, welcome to our Land of the Lost. :)

Awww! That's not fair! His intentions are most decidedly honorable. Even had he been
awake, he would have respected her privacy. In interpersonal matters, Kamatar is all
about mutual understanding and consent.

Besides, under the current circumstances, finding the safety and privacy to do
more than talk is nigh on impossible.

Meanwhile, I wonder what has gotten Seferiz all excited? Maybe a bunch of pagans

Fletch? I think that hopes and dreams of your character can be realized. IF we establish ourselves a home-base here ... and possibly reduce population of mega-predator animals in said area, so we can get some leisure time.

Because Keeper? Keeper can transform into cute fox, hide in a nice hole dug in the ground, put a masking entrance ... and that's it. Keeper can stay as fox-shaped person forever, unless some evil evil dino comes around and sniffs him out.

People who can't say simliarly? Need to put forth work to gain those calories. ^^

I think the goblin is the least worried which is funny.

My god they would have to be say at least 8-9' tall and going to have to be a lot of them if they fight like wolves. I'd be more worried about the t-rex.

Narrator, your most recent post mentioned the strange birds moving from tree to tree.
Just be sure, are those the same strange birds that were seen yesterday morning just
after they washed ashore?

What makes these birds so unique? It was mentioned that the birds from yesterday seemed
to have faces (?) not beaks. Are these birds similar? Are these birds moving towards
the party? Away from the dinosaurs?

Keeper, do you have a way to determine what the two dinosaurs might be likely to eat? The
Narrator's post explained that we say the shield-headed dino eating plants. What would
the duck-billed one eat?

What do the other player characters know about this version of Keeper? Do they know he's
not the same one who spent the night in the cave with them? Or is he?

Kamatar Fletch:
Actually, I could easily imagine Keeper having enough of a connection to nature through
1) being a Kitsune and 2) being a Druid, befriending some of the local wildlife. Heck,
I could easily see Keeper having a tokage familiar.

Once he calms down and remembers that he isn't a city-kitsune? He might be less frightened then.

Kamatar Fletch:

With enough observation? I think yes, but first he needs clear head and less panic.
Keeper have those Survival AND Knowledge(Nature) skills for a reason, yanno? ;)

Was the last Keeper a nervous wreck? Because so far we hadn't exchanged a word In Character. I imagine that it'll raise questions. My Keeper will give you answers, and will be very suprised that there was Keeper before, too. :)

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Ok. Keeper or the 'old keeper' wasn't a City Kistune. He's a druid. Not even close to a city kitsune. Not trying to be rude. Kam is correct-he never was a city kitsune unless you wish ot change your backstory which could work.

No one has seen or hear of any type of dinosaurs. So even with knowledge (Nature), survival, ect. no one has any proof of what they are. At least not yet. You can make knowledge checks and other chechs to figure out what they hunt, if they hunt. You'd need time to study them.

Last keeper I'd say no, wasn't a nervous wreck. Helped out the group. He didn't really ask questions, kept to himself but was a person to talk to if anyone needed anything (I kinda threw him in that direction once his old character took off with a big huff).

Birds: They look like birds but are obviously flying reptiles. With wings and feathers.

Kam: They look like the ones seen but its hard to tell. They are just flying around and don't seem to really see the group as the group is 'hiding' in the forest looking out over the waterhole.

Unless the group sees what they eat, hard to tell.

I'd like to say he is the same as before when they first met but the island can change someones views and make them jumpy. But I don't think it would make Keeper run away from anyone. Druids gain their magic from the earth and forest. Trees and water. But that doesn't mean the druids can have a lack of faith, like clerics or paladins. Or any holy sort.

*raises hand*
I would like to point out that city-kitsune was a joke on my part. To emphasize that my guy is a panicked mess right now. Not hysterical, but frightened by new and alien situation.

He'll start thinking rationally once he "calms his tits".
Narrator:

I believe that I could answer that?
Survival skill including stuff like recognizing animals that are safe-ish to hunt for food. Like carnivore from herbivore. The latter attacking people much less, for example.

Knowledge(Nature) - To remember things druids learn, and other people with knowledge like that, about how animals and plants work. Generalities but based on solid knowledge and learning about Nature methodology.
Narrator:

Thanks for the info. The main, noticeable, differences will be this panic attack and my Keeper having a different accent and slightly altered mannerisms.

Narrator:
Unless the group sees what they eat, hard to tell.

ANd even then it's best to see the teeth. :)

Keeper have even ready excuse for why's so jumpy! Telling outsiders he doesn't trust "Kami-sama pranked me by tossing my incarnation back or forward" would be sounding silly outside of context, right? "Hungry predators I barely escaped from."

Is a good, solid excuse. :D

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

For the group its enough water to live off of for a long time if you got something to hold like like waterskins. In time people could bath in it if uses in the cave. So there really isn't a good way to get the water into the cave when you got a druid who could easily make the water to begin with :)

Also druids have create water and purify food and drink. So really you can possibly take salt water (ocean near the cave) and purify it with the spell. You got enough water for a long time specically if you take some ocean water and put it in the 'hole' in the cave which I stated beforehand. Use purify food and drink to make it work. Techincally it would be 'salty water' but with patience could easily take the salt out and use it too but I'd just say it would just get rid of the salt anyways.

So having Keeper around just for water and Goodberrys and everyones golden if that's all you really need to survive. Plus there's plants that can be possibly used for food as well. The groups fine food-wise for awhile between rations, food from plants and water.

Going to assume the group is whispering with the huge dinosaurs lurking about :) Talking normally could be pretty bad if they hear you :)

Ayup, though I would feel safer if we also have a plan of action. And scout the area a bit, leading to learning the habits of local fauna and flora.

Does Kara's familiar is with us? Depending on species it could have problems with Goodberries.

As for salt water, we could produce salt (trough the process of heating) and gain resources for making salted meats and cured hides.

But again, to hunt dinosaurs we need first to learn the lay of the land and get our bearings.

In the presence of Large sized or taller and/or aggressive creatures that we don't want to be noticed by, we always whisper unless telepathy or an emergency requires otherwise.

Also, whatever happened to Kara's familiar hawk? I hope it didn't get eaten.

Happy Labor Day to all!

To answer your question, Keeper, they could be bonus skill ranks.

However, I tend to place them in the Misc category, so I can keep honest to the # of skill ranks per level cap.
(only 1 rank in a skill per HD/Level).

Kara, I like your cop = predatory animal metaphor. Not that I think that all police are predators.
However, there are some who apparently look on everyone not like them as prey. The sheer existance of those
'police officers' makes me nervous around all law enforcement.

Keeper:
"They condemned us to death with that act. Because they couldn't knew that I am a druid. And they stole my holy symbol. If they desecrated it ..."

Kitsune's face morphed into snarl, that looked very dangerous on a human but on bestial face of a fox-person it looked positively lethal.

"Kamatar, they waited till we leave to steal from us. It is malicious intent. Desperate person would first ask. I consider Kara and you to be my friends. We survived the crash together, and even if I poorly remember that ... I treat my bonds seriously. Both friendships and enmities."

He spoke solemnly before going to Kara and trying to console the woman. Babbling a little that she can curse them all to die trough wolf-like lizards that chased Keeper earlier.

OOC: I personally detest thievery. Whoever robbed our characters blind? It was pure, undiluted malice. I'm just glad they were only a little evil instead of slitting our throats while we slept even if normally such actions would lead to our deaths anyway.

Keeper may try to track them trough scent in his fox form, but ... it'll be very dangerous. VERY.

Is it just me or is everyone take this as a personal assault? Its a game. Survival game. Your on a island with nasty creatures and whatever else.

People steal all the time. I don't like thievery either.

As for who or what ripped off your characters? Perhaps someone in desperate need? Other survivors? Perhaps people who live on the island and don't care? Good and evil maybe don't exist. Its survival. Example: Lord of the Flies. Not everyone is sqeaky clean. Say got 2 groups all wanting a waterhole. They can share it sure. Or perhaps one of them wants it more. Does it make the other side a good side to join to win it back? Never know. They can be purely evil.

Plus it gets very boring sitting in a cave day after day, rations slowly depleting. Won't run out of water of course but can't live off of just water.

As for Survival I think its a trained skill so if no one has it (other then the druid) he's the tracker even if he has no ranks. Course that doesn't mean the goblin won't go out.

I'll shoot out a IC post tonight!

Keeper is probably the best in the wilderness being a druid so he can survive without gear for awhile.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Keeper doesn't know what to look for, perhaps a odd smell. He could smell something but using it to track will take time. He could do it, don't get me wrong. Its a definate idea of course.  Also with Scent it is limited.

https://roll20.net/compendium/pathfinder/Scent#content

Its a nice bonus but between the smell of the ocean, lingering scents and being in a new world could be a bad or good thing.

Kam: It depends if they are leaving a trail too. Theres several ways to not be tracked, several abilities, ect. Probably not used but I think Rangers get some of the abilities.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 294):

Narrator, I take it as personal attack meant to maim and/or kill. Because for all those thieves knew, we had only those few rations.

I have little doubt they already devoured my character's travel rations. But it wasn't desperate hungry people. They stole everything that looked useful or precious, that means deliberate picking and choosing.

Personally am glad they didn't stumble on us or Seif sleeping. It's one thing being eaten by dinosaurs. Another to die by guys who I would describe with swear words.

Dinosaurs are the best, Kara. But I agree that carnivores are bad for your chances to not be eaten.

And Keeper was frightened by velociraptors. He would describe them as wolf-sized, pack hunting monkey-lizards.

Tremors are ... from the "Tremor" movie, right? The human-sized ultra-fast carnivorous worms.
Bullete swims trough earth, it's called earth shark for a reason. We know it' attacked us when one of us is bitten and dragged under the earth.

I fondly remember horror sessions when we got throw-away characters and each GMed in turn to make scary monster encounter. Till today I didn't tell my buddies what was that ate their characters, one by one.

I don't fear T-Rex or other big predator. For them we are too small of a snack most of the time. I fear small pack hunting predators. Compsognatus, for example, is chicken sized.
Like Kobolds are. And they are poisonous.

See PM.

Kan, You are in the center cave, and cannot see outside. Center cave to entrance to beach. You could be aiming up or towards the entrance but can't see the beach. There's boulders, rocks, ect. Your in a cave, its not a straight line. You can aim towards the 'entrance' that leads to the outer area of course.

I don't believe he said that out loud. In his head, sure. He doesn't know any better. Goblins are raised to survived and most get killed. He doesn't really agree with it as he met other females of various races. And never met anyone that was really kind to him. Most people beat the **** out of him. If he likes anyone he doesn't tell anyone out of fear of getting beat on, killed and rejected. Plus he doesn't know what flirting is as it doesn't exist to goblins.

But yes he was being cheeky about it and copied Kam to see what would happen. And not reading anything into it.

Zed was vastly confused by a lot of things that didn't have anything to do with equations, math, crafting of constructs ect. Sief just shrugs it off unless it effects him and he shows what bothers him.

No swearing. Thanks.

Actually there are a lot of half-races but really some make no sense whatsoever.

Keep in mind I won't tolerate any swearing and will remove people for doing it after past things I have witnessed.

Bards aren't all pimps. Sief isn't a pimp. Example of a possible pimp (not really) is Scanlon Shorthalt from Critical Role. Never played a paladin for a long time but I did have a elf paladin on a lion. Pretty cool. Think it died in a fight with a ogre. Figured if he's going to die he'd take it down with him so used Divine Sacrifice several times. Was fun.

Dear Narrator, you are referring to OOC swearing by players, not by their characters who probably swear fairly often, Right?

Also, Kamatar being a half-orc male and single has no idea of what it's like to have or be a pregnant adventurer.

I don't want to see swearing being used. There are other more coloful ways to express it.

I mean saying like bloody hell or whatnot that's fine but mouthing off ICly and or OOCLy? No.

Like in game if someone starts mouthing off using swear words, they will be removed. That said, I think the point is clear.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not really sure. Being a monk, probably but they aren't priests or whatnot. It really depends on the religion. And I don't think its a place to do everyones views on it. Kam doesn't seem to effect him and no one is really bothered by it.

Well you'd be in the same mindset feeling like no one trusts you.

Think about it:
Got a human witch that is all upset because her gear is gone. A half-orc monk that wants to sleep with her that does what she wants that insist on taking charge (but doesn't realize that Kara is in charge if anyone is) A kitsune druid that is afraid of everything. Oddly the only person that doesn't seem to be afriad is the goblin which is ironic but he can hide really really well. Everyone is cranky but showing it in their own ways.

Everyone has been slighted. Everyone is broodish right now :)

And Seif is slowly sticking up for himself. Figures he'd rather be killed by the group then a huge T-Rex!

Sief is comic relief. Only person that seems to like him is Kara. He's fun to play!

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Thanks to our glorious Narrator for the +1 Stat point that will aid in our characters' survival!

Despite Kamatar's demonstrative expressions of affection towards Kara, he will not do anything Kara wants or tells him to do.

Kamatar is naturally inclined to take charge of a situation if he doesn't see anyone else doing so. Especially when there seems to be a need for someone to lead. If the group can work by consensus, he'll do that too.

Despite appearances, his affections towards Kara are not based upon wanting to "sleep with her" in the colloquial sense.

Given their current environment, even necessary sleeping is clearly hazardous, having sex of any kind is too dangerous because it is distracting. Courting Kara verbally doesn't risk him being too distracted from their circumstances. It also lets him not focus on the people who've died.

Several encounters with the savage lifeforms that live nearby and the deaths they've witnessed since coming here are making it clear that survival is the second most important consideration.

Actually, they are everywhere. This is their domain. So far, there haven't been any sign of a more dominant species than the dinosaurs. Two huge predatory dinosaurs have come to the outside of the PCs cave home in the space of two or three days. They encountered a pack of the smaller velociraptors on their first day, and a pterodactyl took one of the PCs out of the game.

Almost every animal the PCs have encountered so far, with very few exceptions, was predatory, and even the non-predators were a threat by their sheer size.

Except for other ex-passengers from the ship, the PCs have encountered no other sentient life.
Heck, the PCs haven't encountered any native mammals.

Of course, the PCs have only been there a few days, right GM?

Wait. I get to say something after people talked about sex on the island when there's far other things to contend with? Again survival game not a tropical love connection on a island. Like the dinosaurs that are native (presumably) to the island? There may be mammals, may not.

Its only been 2-3 days.

And it was 1 dinosaur. Not 2. Same creature but no one ventured out to see. Course I could like and have the entire island be full of T-Rexs. It might be, hard to tell. The group hasn't really left the cave on the beach, probably out of fear.

I want the group to understand its survival of the fittest. There's going to be a lot to contend with.

The island is a trap lol

The group can see the backpack on the ground but there's bushes, trees, ect. Big forest.

It was just a disagreement about timing. Kam was saying that sex was lethal because it was too distracting. I was saying that there is shelter and sex doesn't really take that long. Yes there have been dangers, but if a couple wanted to have sex they could find fifteen minutes to do it. Honestly it often takes a lot less if you cut out all the extras.

But weren't talking about actually doing it. It was just a discussion of feasibility. That said, the other discussion of feasibility is that because we're in a dangerous place we can't think or act on anything but vigilance. If every second is to be spent on action and vigilance then we're going to die of exhaustion. It's just not possible. People need some down time. We had time to sleep, to bathe, to talk. We even went outside to look at a watering hole. Someone else had time to come and rob us blind. The idea that we couldn't indulge anything at all except out primary concern of evading dinosaurs is just wrong. In fact we are going to need to find some distractions or we'll go crazy.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Let's not talk about sex please. I don't think its really important nor valid at this point. Also, people do it to breed. You want to walk around pregnant? I don't think so. There's no towns for help, no people to heal you other then yourself and possibly Sief. The group has much more prior concerns at the moment.

The whole point is to be alert (not all the tine) and yes it can get tiring. Its not lets go to the bar and drink till morning. You'll get time to chit chat, have some fun, ect. Its not like its every hour something horrible will happen. There's no 'safe place' at the moment (or maybe at all) so the group has to find one. Find the people who stole the gear. I'm not saying you can't have fun and I don't want the game to get dragged on with no one feelng it. That's no fun for me or anyone else for that matter. There might be natives or people who live here or had lived here but got to go find them. Or find a way home.

Also the backpack might be one of yours. You don't know. Seif never stated the group should go. He just doesn't like it.

I don't want this to get into a argument and its getting to the point. Its the last thing I want.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

They start with a musket, blunderbuss or a one shot pistols (can be reloaded).

Good news is its a ranged touch attack depending on the gun (think blunderbuss isn't?).

Bad news is their ranged is crappy. Muskets have a 40' ranged, blunderbuss has a 10' range (but its coneshaped) and pistol has a 20 or 30' range. Gunslingers get other abilities too. I'd say guns can do more damage with 1-2 shots but archers can be a lot farther back and just hit and run. Played a dhampir gunslinger (musket master) briefly in a game I ran. It was interesting.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/class...-classes/gunslinger/

The nice thing is you get a free weapon.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Hello ! I'm back after two days of holy days. First Hallowen, ugh, then All Saints/Celebration of the Departed if translated imperfectly from my language to Pirate Talk (or English as it's commonly named). ;)

With that said ...

... me sad. There was a whole lot of discussion about movie cliches and if sex is distracting in survival game and it passed by me.

*very sad fox jpg*

With that said? Until we get a good lay of the land, Keeper gets enough downtime to calm down and stop being frightened out of his tiny mind, I advice against relaxing. Just in case!^^

Paranoia is a healthy disposition for Player Characters. :P

As for gunslinger and Pathfinder guns. Kara? Unless you play the Sci Fi variant, Cyber-Warrior sub-class or something like that, I advice against taking such things into a survival games.

Why? Without Alchemy Skill, and/or some specialized magic, you'll rapidly run out of bullets and gunpowder. And then what?

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Make new ones using whatever you find? Only use it when you have no choice?

Also I'd make it so you'd have a way to get more bullets. I'm not that much of a jerk.

Plus getting about 1000 gold and a free weapon? You'd have some decent moment after getting other gear to not have to really worry about it immediatly.

Alchemy does take time btw. You'd still need the resources so that's not really a quick way to get what you want for bullets. I'd be more concerned with black powder then bullets personally. But since we got no gunslingers...

Paranoia will get you killed.

And Keeper? I wish it passed by me to lol!

Don't forget your bird. Acting like it isn't there. Sheesh.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Theres really no 'tracks' Keeper. Your going by scent. Course being in the forest with a high Survival roll...

I'll come up with something.

Also right now your most like relying on subtle cluse. Say a small footprint not easily seen (though perceptiom could pick it up). Surival can tell you possible its size, how old it is ect. Getting a occasional whiff does help. But tracking with scent is pretty limiting. Think its about 30' if upwind, 60+ if downwind. But being able to smell things in fox form could be pretty useful.

Group has no clue if it belongs to the group. No one seems to want to get close, hard to tell if it is unless you grab it and check. Most backpacks look the same. And the group does need gear :)

No, not with a 6 strength. It can fly around it to get a better look or land on it. Birds are always good for scouting but still can't communicate with it yet.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Kara? I do have a proposal about how to deal with the vine.

It can only attack with it's own body, right? So ... I don't think you can use White Haired Witch's animated-hair trick and wrestle with a big, bear strong, plant.

Can you use the prehensile hair to use a machete or other bladed weapon?

I see it like this.

We find the safe distance, almost in the reach of the vine, if Kara have offensive cantrip with bigger range? She can pelt it with said cantrip till the vine dies. It's immobile after all.

If not ... Kamatar is our most muscular person. At least by picture. We can try exploiting the Ready Action sequences. How I see it?

First our characters plan the situation. So they know what we schemed here. How it can look?

People armed with slashing weapons standing just outside the reach of the Vine. They ready move and attack actions. One person, who's useless in combat, readies those same actions too.

Bait person, moves within the attack reach of the Vine, vine attacks triggering the "Run" readied action of said person. And the 5ft step and Attack action from the armed people, if they can do it safe-ish. They slash at vine and use move actions to retreat back outside of vine's range.

Injuries are taken care of. Rinse and repeat till the Vine is dead and we can loot the backpack. :P

My main problem is that Keeper can't propose such idea, being a dummy panicked fox he is. Kamatar? Maybe your fighty guy can show off? :)

Narrator, I hope you understand that I'm now 'convinced' that the thieves were malicious and left that backpack in the nest of Vine on purpose? ;)

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

1. You don't know how far it can reach or what is is. You can assume, sure (I really hate assuming and I have seen it done several times....)

2. It may have alreaduy left. No one knows.

3. I'm pretty sure with the Hair you can use a weapon. Why not? But witches are extremtly limited with weapons to begin with.

4. Its hard to state 'Readying a run action'. Your in a forest, there may be other creatures. Assasin vines can easily grab onto you preventing any 'Run' attempt. So its based on luck. If that is a assassin vine. Could be something I created. Again, not sure. So stating ready to run you can attempt it but could be hard. Plus running away is x3 movement speed so at least 90+ feet away leaving the rest of the group to deal with it.

5. No one really trusts anyone else. Again, the group just met. You can say you trust someone but if something goes down and you have to choose your life or someone else in the group well....

6. Not sure how injuries are taken care of. Heck all someone has to do is get a lucky crit and that could really hurt, possibly kill. Yes, got 3 people who can heal the wounds. That is good.

7. 'Safe distancing' could be a dilemma. Assasin vines don't have to stay in one spot. They aren't linked to a area. Could be anywhere.

8. Bait Person? Be honest. You mean Sief because he's a NPC.

There's really no way to deal with it until they can figure out what it is. Keeper could be wrong and could be something far different.

Not trying to argue but it seems like this OOC area is just going to be 'Argue with the DM'. Just seems like that's what it always turns into.

Keeper's views make perfect sense if they know what they are going to fight (You don't know), realizing its weakness (Again don't know-Slashing could work), possibly finding a way to get the advantage (its a forest area, probably not likely)

Not saying its not possible! If it is a assasine vine they are pretty slow. But that doesn't mean there aren't a lot more waiting.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Actually the snakes have hurt the group quite a but. Slowly. Yes one is dead.

Doesn't help when the monk who is the best at fighting stands there and goes defense for 3 rounds :)

Kam and Sief are flanking 1 of the snakes. The others are attacking Keeper and Kara.

Got a bit confused. Can't use a 5' step and then disegage, Kara. Can't attack and then disegage either. Disengage is a full round action used for escaping (mainly) so Kara is 30' away.

Yep, I dunno what would Kam do when squishes would be bitten to death by sneks. ^^

I need either 2 extra levels, for Bearzilla action ... or find a wolf-like animal to befriend and bond with. Otherwise I'm just there to be extra bag of HP and some healing.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Many apologies too. Kamatar is trying to rally himself back into fighting the snakes full on. As he see it, he's had more success in defending against the snakes and drawing their attacks away from the other than he has had attacking himself.

However, he's going to go on the offensive soon. Thus, the battle chant/haka he's performing to encourage himself and the others.

Just sayin' :)

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Never thought snakes would cause so much grief....

Well taking a step back and hitting a snake 2 times with a +4 to hit vs having a AC of 21 and going full defensive hoping the bard that has a +1 (Or +3 right now) to hit that does 1d4 damage.

See the math? lol!

Bard has spells but not damaging.
Witch has some spells but not really damaging.
Druid has spells but might do some damage.

I definatly understand everyones viewpoint. Heck Sief shouldn't be in combat. No reason to apologize. Haven't drawn any attacks. Each snake had a target.

So the group has 3 targets. Kara is 30' away. One is going after Sief (or Kam), one is going after Keeper and 1 was going after Kara.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Not really sure how aninals aren't full of malice Keeper. Its a game. Regular animals, not so much but some do and want to kill. Mainly predators if that is what you mean. It depends on the type of animal, location, or if its a actual animal. These seems like normal snakes.

With the correct skills:
Craft (Poison) could be useful.
Heal Skill/Craft (herbalism) could possibly make antibodies.
Knowledge (Nature) could help as well.

Also you would have to clean them out and cook them as well as remove any poison sacks.

So you don't think the snakes attacks (poison) will kill you.  Course if you don't make the save it might over time. With enough rest, the group should be fine.

Kara Eldwyyn:
Kara emerges from her tree, grumbling. "Stupid snakes." She hurries up to where Sief dropped than and chops them to pieces with her sickle. "Stupid snakes, I hate snakes. How dare you..." She chops some more. "attack" more chopping "US!"

"Ugh." She puts away her sickle. "I hate snakes"

So:
Keeper you can easily grab the snakes.

Still waitng to see if anyone grabs the backpack and looks inside of it.

Heaving back to the cave or further into the forest? If going back the cave, probably won't get the gear back but you might. Its up to the group.

Oh and btw:

Everyone may level level up to 3.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

Keeper has been removed do to swearing in the OOC area.

Calling a NPC a a***** in a area that already was told no swearing is a no no. Seif isn't a primadonna. He plays pranks. When the group 'teamed up' on him he ran. Goblin reaction. Doesn't help when he got hit by a mud pie. Sief will learn but being level 2 (or 3) that's a normal proccess. Sorry I seemed to be unable to have a NPC with the group that everyone seemed to like :( I like chars with flaws.

Either way I think this game has come to a end unfortunatly. Sorry I was unable to create a world that everyone enjoyed. Its a bummer. Unless you would like to continue but I'm pretty bummed at the moment.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

I feel like I've been reading a different thread. But okay, wow. With Keeper gone that would leave just Kara and Kamatar, unless Sief decided to come back. Did he get hit by a real mudpie, or was that figurative? I must have missed it. I'm so confused. I don't think anyone disliked Sief. Spats and disagreements do not equal dislike.

Maybe it's best to end it here, but I'm willing to see what Kam wants to do.

Re: (OOC) Welcome to Extinction

I removed the countless swearing about Seif from Keeper. He's banned. And he did throw a mudpie at Sief and I allowed it for IC purposed (Sief didn't expect it) And was rude. People shifing their attitudes and 'assulting' another NPC (I'm fine with that) but he took it a step further and insulting him OOCy knowing it was me and knowing I would defend myself. Some NPCs some aren't going to be liked but he took it too far.

I think that it is time for our GM to focus on more productive efforts. It seems like he's not having much fun running this game.

I like my character and Kara but I think their situation has gotten so much worse that their chances of survival in such a hostile environment are no longer worthwhile exploring.

I hope that we can all take the energy that we've been spending in this game and move forward to more enjoyable pursuits.

Furthermore, I'd like to thank our GM for his efforts in trying to make this an enjoyable game for everyone involved.

I was having fun but with people suddenly hating me for whatever reasons is a pain in the royal ***. See? I didn't swear. Trying to make a character that had a personality with the group was a lost cause unfortunatly :( Seif was fun. Even Zed was fun but I feel like OOCly issues worked into some not likely them. Some need to learn OOC and IC are not the same thing. I didn't make the characters to be a hindrance but when I RPed as them everyone was like 'No'. I like making NPCs with a personality not someone to just heal people and not say a word. If you dislike me, cool. Don't join a game I run to cause mayhem. I won't tolerate it.

Keeper had a few screws loose.
