I think we should have a solid Tank, Healer, Skill Monkey, and Arcanist type for the group, with 1-2 characters that can play support/secondary positions.

I would like to play the psionic one then. Is there someone against me taking the blaster route?

Also, can we propose other sources? https://dndtools.net/ have most of the official 3.5 things.

I am going to say no, just because there are so many resources on that site that I do not have access to in person. I do provide a rather extensive list of books to draw from, so if you cannot build it from there, perhaps a different concept is in order. If there is a feat or prestige class that you would like, I will examine it to see if it can be integrated into the game without breaking it.

As a reminder, anything from a source outside of the PHB has to have DM approval. If it is drawn from one of the books listed, it is a probable yes.

I also would like to limit the psionics in the campaign (they are rare in the Realms), so no more than a player or two should have classes or abilities that are psionic in nature (that being an exceptional number considering the rarity).

Good luck on the finals. Will give us some time to work out the characters :)

For the other players I am looking at an archer build who will also be covering a large amount of skills. Anyone looking at a tank and/or healer?

Sounds good to me. Let me know if I can do anything to assist.

On character creation are you ok with 36,000gp for 9th Level characters to select equipment including magic items? and also with HP did you want to roll or should we use the dice roller on here to record?

Some interesting options in there.

Never seen a silver dragon pc before, sounds interesting but also super challenging. Assume they would be hiding that and pretending to be a Mage or such?

I like the Aasimar Paladin / Fighter idea as well as the Aasimar Druid / Sorceress and Human Druid / Sorcerer / Loremaster.

I believe Player 2 is doing a healer? But never say no to more healing. Are there anyone you think stand out?

So, if I understand:

Player 1: healer (me)
Player 3: skill monkey/Archer (so support/secondary character as not a tank or arcanist type

This means we are still looking for:

1. Tank
2. Arcanist type
3. support/secondary
4. Support/secondary

(Not sure what roll Player 2 is going for?)

Of the applications listed, I'd go with:

1. Jotunbrud Warblade/Frenzied Berserker. (I'm a bit bias, I suppose, as it is my brother, but also the tankiest of proposals that I see...)

2. Either of the druid//sorcerers(-esses) or the master transmogrifist for arcanist type (surprisingly no wizard applicants).

3/4. Whichever provides the most utility/fills the most holes in the skills and abilities already covered. ??

I was looking at healer, but since 1 wanted it wholesale, I'm happy to let him have it without complaint - I had far too many other concepts I wanted to play out anyway.

Sorry for the delay out here - I wanted to confirm my choices with the GM before presuming anything about a current build plan.

I will be running a human Warblade/Psion for the tank role more than the arcanist.  I'll be going pure on the Warblade side but I'm not settled on any psionic prestige class.  I may ask for one once I see party composition.

So my thoughts for a 5-man are:

Player 1 - Healer
Player 2 - Tank/some magic
Player 3 - Skills/Ranged
Player 4 - Either of the Druid/Sorcerers
Plater 5 - Silver Dragon or Paladin/Ranger

My "magic" is blade magic and psionics and I know we wanted to keep the latter low.  I'd be good with your list but would prefer the Silver dragon or paladin/ranger over the Elan.

I obviously don't know people's character's alignments but being Chaotic I'd prefer to avoid as many lawful as possible (silver dragons and Paladins, unless an alignment variant, are lawful).

My guess is that the DM added the Elan telepath to the list as our selecting a second psionic user is acceptable? If that is the case, my choice for the Elan telepath stands.  If I'm mistaken, I'll leave the choice up to player 2 and 3.

OOC: Beginning the Game

DM added all characters submitted to the list as they were presented to him.

Some proposed multiple concepts, so I listed them all.

Outsiders are the only ones where I am strictest about alignment, mostly due to subtypes and how the Mythal would react around Silverymoon. I do offer ways to mitigate that for character concepts via Sanctified and Wish spells, but that creates a background which means that character owes or has a service to fulfill their debt.

Dragons are close to alignment restricts compared to outsiders, but not as tightly bound.

Evil Outsider 1 in 1,000,000 may be neutral, 1 in 1,000,000,000 may be good. A reasonable backstory and magical alterations would explain it better for a PC to have their alignment be different in my opinion.

Dragon 1 in 1,000 may have a variant on the Lawful/Chaos axis, 1 in 1,000,000 on the Good/Evil axis.

Lawful Good, Neutral Good, and Chaotic Good can all work together well, especially as part of an adventuring/mercenary company. Even Lawful Neutral and True Neutral if everyone's boundaries are discussed beforehand.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Nin Vinto will be my name.

Silver Dragon or Paladin/Ranger vs Telepath/Rogue - melee potential, mystery factor, and if we've got a died in the wool lawful guy, I'll go neutral instead of lawful.  As a mercenary adventuring group, at least one straight-laced guy just makes sense, and a variety of alignments is always nice.  Also, IC conflict between characters (with players on good terms OOC) adds a lot to RP and stories.  Also, Also: I have had a ton of bad experiences with only chaotic parties.

EDIT: As you may have noticed, I'm not just going for mechanical advantage with character selection (or my build for that matter) but story.

I will be adding characters soon.

A question that is coming up is do we allow Prestige classes on both sides of the progression? Having seen your character concepts more now, I am less opposed than originally.

My only stipulation would be it may not advance your abilities beyond what a character of equal level would be able to do. So by example, no Wizard 5//Cleric 3/Mystic Theurge 2, getting spells and spell levels as a 7th level wizard and 5th level cleric. Or feats that progress two class features to double up similarly.

Ideas or thoughts?

Welcome to the game, please feel free to throw your hat in the ring about the discussions happening in the thread, while also working on your character. Please remember if it is outside the PHB, ask before assuming it is allowed. For our Psionic friends Ballad Char and Nin Vinto, it is fair to say that most powers and feats from the EPH will be allowed. Nin, likewise, because you are using the Tome of Battle, most options from the book are available. Jerinvar, we will discuss your character specifically to update to 3.5 standards. In general, most classes, feats, prestige classes, etc... will be allowed from the sources outlined, just run them by me first.

As long as the Ultimate magus doesn't boost caster level above hit dice, I've got no problems with it (in spite of the usual no-theurge rule) since you're stacking it with a full arcane caster.  I'd have qualms if it was Sorc 5/Cleric(or rogue or whatever) 4 // Wizard 5/Ultimate Magus 4, but as it is (except spell power) it's all good.

I'm avoiding Jade Phoenix mage altogether, myself.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Jerinvar has taken the Vow of Poverty (from Book of Exalted Deeds).  With this feat he gains additional exalted feats as he gains levels.  Two such exalted feats are "Vow of Nonviolence" and "Vow of Peace".  I've considered taking them as they are thematic with my 'Healer' focused character (sort of a DnD version of the Hippocratic oath: first, do no harm).

I realize that by taking it, it may have some in game implications for other characters.  I've outlined the specific rules that affect him and his allies (see below).  I'm looking to find out if the group is okay with these rules/restrictions, or if it is preferred that I refrain from taking said feats:

Vow of Peace:

1.  "Jerinvar" must not cause harm to any living creature (constructs and undead are not included in this prohibition).  "Jerinvar" may not deal real damage or ability damage to such creatures through spells or weapons, though "Jerinvar" may deal nonlethal damage.  "Jerinvar" may not target them with death effects, disintegrate, pain effects, or other spells that have the immediate potential to cause death, suffering, or great harm.

2.  "Jerinvar" may not use nondamaging spells to incapacitate or weaken living foes so that "Jerinvar's" allies can kill them - if you incapacitate a foe, you must take him/her prisoner.

Vow of Nonviolence:

1.  "Jerinvar's" purity is so great that any ally of yours who slays a harmless or defenseless foe within 120' of "Jerinvar" feels great remorse (aka: -1 morale penalty on attack rolls for 1 hour/character level for each helpless foe slain.  The attack penalty increases by 1, to a maximum equal to your character level.  The duration of the increased penalty starts from the latest slaying).

2.  "Jerinvar" may ask his allies to give you an oath that a helpless foe will not be slain.  If the oath is sworn, an ally who later breaks the oath takes the penalty for doing so as if you were present.

3.  If "Jerinvar" leaves a helpless foe to be killed by his allies, he has 'broken' his vow.

4.  "Jerinvar" may ask a defeated creature to give him an oath of surrender or noninterference in exchange for its life.  If the creature breaks this oath to you, you can allow your allies to deal with the creature as they see fit without breaking their oaths or your vow of nonviolence.

So in all of that, Vow of Nonviolence 1 and 2 are the only things that affect other players (and 4 acts as a fail safe)...the rest is on me to adhere to.

I guess the question is...does the group see themselves as being of the type that would indiscriminately slay defenseless/helpless foes?  If yes, they may have a problem with my character taking these feats...if no, then shouldn't be a problem at all.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

My only questions would be for Nonviolence #1:

1-is harmless or defenseless defined by Jerinvar or the acting PC?

(Nin's probably rolling in with LG, but if he thinks or knows someone dangerous is just acting harmless/defenseless to take advantage he's not necessarily going to wait to explain that)

2-what about pain in the back corner cases?

(If we've got the troll [or other regenerator] to negatives and it's unconscious and helpless, can we not burn it until it gets up and takes a swing at us?)

3-is there no save against that ability?

I am going to be immune in a few levels regardless, but figure they're worth asking for everyone.

In reply to Nin Vinto (msg # 58):

1.  I imagine the GM can define 'harmless/defenseless' as to the terms of the game and not by an individual's perspective based on those words and their use within the mechanics of that feat.

2.  since it doesn't regenerate fire damage, you'd end up killing it which goes against the 'harmless/defenseless' aspect of things...why not restrain it/imprison it/immobilize it in someway while it is unable to defend itself.  Then when it comes to, i make it swear an oath (as indicated) and if it breaks the oath, you can kill it till your hearts content?

3.  no save against what?  which part of what I wrote?  Immune to what?

do you mean a save for this part:

2.  "Jerinvar" may ask his allies to give you an oath that a helpless foe will not be slain.  If the oath is sworn, an ally who later breaks the oath takes the penalty for doing so as if you were present.

if so, no...and I can't see it as something one could gain immunity from? immune to morale penalties?

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

It would depend on the campaign... its kinda hard to take 100's let alone 10 prisoners and travel with them, feed them... This would make being a Mercenary band behind enemy lines pretty impossible to do... You let an enemy live and set it free and it just brings his friends back with him... I don't see the viability of it myself.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

so, are we all for indiscriminate killing...if so, that's fine...doesn't seem like something any 'good' aligned character would be in agreement with.

if we are in combat, a being isn't helpless/defenseless unless it:

a) surrenders
b) you do enough damage to drop it 'but not kill it'.

if it dies in battle that's one thing...but its that 0 to -10 range that is the question as to the morality of a group.

in a) it surrenders...swears an oath and we deal with it like we would if we weren't indiscriminate killers without my character having said feats.  If it breaks vow, have at it and kill it.

b) if unconscious.  Subdue/immobilize, bring it to, have it swear oath.

not swearing oath seems like it is still prepared to be combative and the others can do as they want.

some GM insight on the subject might be helpful :)

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Helpless - SRD
A helpless character is paralyzed, held, bound, sleeping, unconscious, or otherwise completely at an opponent’s mercy. A helpless target is treated as having a Dexterity of 0 (–5 modifier). Melee attacks against a helpless target get a +4 bonus (equivalent to attacking a prone target). Ranged attacks gets no special bonus against helpless targets. Rogues can sneak attack helpless targets.

As a full-round action, an enemy can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace to a helpless foe. An enemy can also use a bow or crossbow, provided he is adjacent to the target. The attacker automatically hits and scores a critical hit. (A rogue also gets her sneak attack damage bonus against a helpless foe when delivering a coup de grace.) If the defender survives, he must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or die.

Delivering a coup de grace provokes attacks of opportunity.

Creatures that are immune to critical hits do not take critical damage, nor do they need to make Fortitude saves to avoid being killed by a coup de grace.

Defenseless = no longer an immediate threat...they have surrendered and are no longer posing a threat.

I understand the desire to add it for your character but you would essentially make every other characters choice of alignment obsolete and all would bow to the morale of one (maybe more than one if they are so inclined, but hey, that is their choice... others not so inclined lose their choice).

Again, this is not an Exalted campaign... Your Moral standard is not "the" moral standard of the party.

Likely being CG I have no issues with it and considering it looks like we have a LG member of the party they would never allow killing of people who surrender or are helpless anyway.

Are there exceptions for monsters like the example above, burning a downed troll to ensure it doesn't get back up again? Not really helpless? What does the GM think?

Nin hasn't talked about his childhood much, but the party would know it was spent in the underdark.  They would also know that he has a huge hate on for Illithids, and seems to think he's very good at killing them.  The math is probably not too hard there, but it's not been talked about explicitly.  He spent pretty much his entire life above ground as a professional soldier (ie. Mercenary) and student of the blade in Sembia.

His build has shifted to warblade/swordsage/master of nine | psion/illiquid slayer.

Not 100% on deity yet.  It will be someone he thinks would favor his grudge against the Illithids, though.

Eriale grew up in Chessenta.  She went to a private school for the sons and daughters of the wealthy magical elite. She's not interested in wealth but regards knowledge as dragons regard rubies.

Rather than follow in her father's footsteps, she decided to become a druid so she could make both Divine and arcane magic. That's when her parents disowned her but it's when she found Athena.

Over time, she has passed through, Sembia, the Dales,  Waterdeep and now the Silver Marches.

I think that offering your enemies to surrender before/during a battle and not deliberately coup de grace ing unconscious/defenseless creatures, or perhaps shooting them in the back when they are trying to disengage from combat, would pretty much cover the requirements. If they refuse, they refuse, and are fair game. Undead (un-intelligent) and Constructs obviously do not apply.

That would pretty much sum up the requirements for the group, I believe.

Also, we are 9th level (and thus have access to 5th level casting)...I would hope we have someone in our group who has the ability to use the Teleport spell (looking at you Ultimate Magus//Mage or the Arcane Order).

If we do get someone who has surrendered or we've taken prisoner.  Teleport them away to the nearby prison and teleport back.  At worst we are delayed a day to give you a chance to prepare the spell (twice..once to take them away and once to get back)...and you can take up to 3 prisoners with you if need be.  If going to a place you are very familiar with, within 900 miles, you have a 97% chance of going exactly where you plan to go.

Just a thought, as carting prisoners around was expressed as a concern.

It does stink that the party takes the penalties for your feat to work, but gain no benefit from it.  It's like handing out a flaw to everyone else to get a bonus feat for each flaw you pass out.

It is entirely possible that Nin will kill something you disable, just fyi.  While I'm fine with you taking whatever feats you want, I'm going to be up front that if he feels something needs to die, he will kill it.  He would also be up front about that.  He is good but definitely not exalted good.

Keryth grew up in the High Forest. His village was almost wiped out by a Necromancer and his Undead troops, the survivors were rescued by a wood elf tribe and he grew up there. They taught him woodland lore and archery. He has since travelled extensively including stints in the Cormyr and Silvermoon military as a scout and archer as well as a member of an adventuring band exploring old dungeons and ruins.

He has a mountain leopard companion named Shadow as she is never far from Keryths side. He found and raised her from a kitten.

Xulo awoke in the craft shop of Ardan Vahl, an Artificer attached to the magical colleges of Silverymoon. 'He' was discovered in an ancient Netherese ruin with several other artifacts and brought back for study.

After a few years of study, Ardan, through restorative magics, eventually brought Xulo back to a functional state once more.

Xulo has no memories of before 'his' awakening, however Ardan was intrigued by 'his' sentience and ability to learn, taught 'him' things that 'he' readily absorbed and imparting moral and ethical concepts in 'his' daily lessons.

Ardan sent Xulo to learn at the Lady's College as 'his arcane aptitude grew. Although a construct, he obviously saw some spark of life within 'him', and treated Xulo as one would treat their child.

I am thinking of having Xulo's buld change to:

Wizard 5 / Incantrix 2 / Spellguard of Silverymoon 2 // Sorcerer 5 / Ultimate Magus 4

All he would loose is Spellpool which granted can allow him to pop out any one spell, even ones he doesn't have in his spell book, up to 4 levels worth of spells a day and needs to leave empty slots in order to use it, a bonus language (not a big loss), and a Metamagic Feat.

He would gain 2 metamagic feats, Would be able to cast many forbidden spells within Silverymoons Wards, Be able to fuel other casters spells with his metamagics, and give him at will use of the following spells: air walk, bless weapon, bull's strength, cat's grace, control water, discern lies, dispel chaos, dispel evil, feather fall, lesser ironguard*, quench, remove curse, remove paralysis, shield, shocking grasp, silence, and tongues by command word, exactly as if it were an ability of a magic item in his possession,
lose a school of magic (probably Necromancy), be Obligated to protect Silverymoon (roaming the North seeking out danger to Silverymoon and removing the threats...

could be a reason for this group, an elite squad of the Knights in Silver who venture the North West of Faerun to seek out and remove threats to Silverymoon.

Is this statement based on a Chaotic alignment and not being one to follow orders? Would a mercenary company be more fitting for Eriale?

I believe a mercenary company would be far preferable for Eriale on alignment grounds even though on other grounds she would rather be aligned with a college.  That said, if she were in a mercenary company she would simply save most of the pay she earned so that she can in future use it to acquire knowledge.

Some background about my character from its Ghaele perspective:

quote:
Their (Ghaele) hearts were often heavy at the plight of the innocents that they observed. Even in the beauty of Arborea, they often were anxious about the happenings on the Material Plane. They loved the Material Plane and its people and grew depressed if not allowed to visit it often, offering guidance to its good natives. They often developed close relationships with the mortals that they advised.

So, however you see Jerinvar fitting un under the above pretense works fine with me.

He'd want to be in an advisory role to whoever takes lead.  He has the Charisma and Diplomacy to be the leader but doesn't want to make decisions on behave of mortals.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

I like the mercenary company and if some of our members are "secretly" connected to other groups so we can get jobs from them and they can have deniable assets to hire, so much the better.

Nin's going to be living on the border of Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral (note: not lawful stupid).  He's got a little bit of knowledge about everything, can have a decent diplomacy (maxed ranks and a few bonuses but no charisma bonus - neighborhood of +18), and maxed profession (soldier).

I'm happy with him being party leader if there's no other player that has a strong desire for it.  He originally left the Sembian mercenary group he has been in for most of his life in order to found (or join) his own group in hopes of developing an elite group strong enough to one day exterminate an Illithid hive.  He knows this is no small ask, so he'll be going out of his way for each and all of the group whenever they need/want something as well.  (As a player I know this may be way outside the scope of the game, but it's his motivation for being here and investing so heavily in the group.)

My sheet is needing work still - sooooo many options.  I've locked down my Psionic powers (pending approval), and most of the skills but am working out some feats and all maneuvers.

I like the idea of a mercenary/adventuring group that has ties to Silvermoon. Keryth has served as a scout with the Knights of Silver previously and would be happy to base our operations from the city.

I think it gives us some more freedom to do things we want to do and we can also take missions for them when asked.

Keryth is definitely not a leader, so more than happy for someone else to have that role.

Jerinvar is quite intelligent and wise, and very charismatic (with Diplomacy +21).

If no real leader candidate exists, I could see Jerinvar taking the roll, but it would be a leadership style that relies heavily on group consensus...basically a democratic leadership style (though making the tough decisions when time to consult the group isn't available.

quote:
Democratic leadership, also known as participative leadership or shared leadership, is a leadership style in which members of the group take a participative role in the decision-making process.

But if someone wants it, I'm good with that.

Judging by the group makeup, I am envisioning your group as a sort of unofficial special ops group for Marches. Some members who are former military/guard types, a couple of free thinkers, and enough plausible deniability to round it out nicely.

How far before the Spellplague are you thinking?

Alustriel became the first High Mage of Silverymoon unanimously chosen by the people, and ruled long and well until 1369 DR.  She stepped down, appointed Taern Homblade as High Mage, and set about creating a new realm in the Sword Coast North with Silverymoon at its heart.

Slight Build change:

Incantatrix 3 / Spellguard 1 instead of Incantatrix 2 / Spellguard 2

Allows Xulo to add Metamagics to his Allies spells after they have been cast (As well as as they are casting)

Also switched Twin Spell metamagic for Empower Spell metamagic as Twin would not work on spells already cast.

Looking at a 20th level Build progression of:

Domain Wizard 5 / Incantatrix 10 / Spellguard 5 // Sorcerer 5 / Ultimate Magus 10 / Archmage 5

Xulo will have Extend and Empower and has dropped Persist and Twin Metamagic Feats

also snagged Eschew Materials because who really wants to be fiddling with spell components or be spell-less because your spell component back got taken or stolen.

Eriale... I would swap Repeat for something else until higher spell levels are available... Who really needs to repeat a 1st level spell when you have more 1st level than anything else.

Silent and Still metamagics are highly situational but when those situations occur they are highly valuable.

The two I was thinking of repeating were Cure Light Wounds and True Strike but yes, I just needed another metamagic feat or crafting item feat so I could become a Loremistress.  At the time, I might have picked silent and still but now I've taken Natural Spell at 9th level, the main circumstance I thought of is less relevant.

Hmm... Heighten spell would be interesting with produce flame?  Nope, that's caster level.  I have Brew Potion but suppose I add craft wondrous item?  That would give me something interesting to do during downtime.

For the current adventure planned, it will not be crucial for you to have a rogue. If you are interested in hiring one, you may, but Character Creation has taken a little longer than is healthy for most games. Then again, generally it takes a little while for the players to set out for an adventure, up to you guys.

Human Rogue 9 / Warrior 5, Master Thrower 4

So would depend if we are in need of a secondary combatant or secondary arcane caster

Not sure what all we have:

If people shared their character sheets in there description like I did we would all have a better idea what everyone can do... not sure why that needs to be kept secret... we have all worked together for 2 years and should be very familiar with each others abilities... I would suggest a thread for all character sheets if its too hard to put in your description.

Unless you have a ward token you are limited in your ability to cast magic within Silverymoon and up to 1,000 feet (300 meters) beyond the city wall.

Prohibition from casting evocation spells that created fire.

Prohibition from casting teleportation magic.

Prohibition from summoning things.

The wards prevent any such magic to work without possessing a token.

Xulo has one as a benefit of being a member of the Spellguard.

There maybe someone in the Spellguard who knows that area and could potentially teleport you there, but you would have to ask around. Some religions also have portals for members, that perhaps you could convince them that you should be allowed to use them.

So, Gather Information, Diplomacy, Knowledge Arcana, Knowledge Religion, Knowledge Local, and Knowledge Nature checks would be advisable if you are done with the room and ready to find someone to help.

So, we have had Xulo step away from the game. Nin Vinto hasn't logged in or posted in over two weeks. Eriale has been a while since she interacted.

This leaves Jerinvar and Keryth, as the most recent posters. How would you like to proceed? I can adapt the adventure for the two, possibly three of you, opening up for others to join to fill in the missing spot, or however you would like to continue.

Hello everyone, I'll be the new resident tank for you. Looking forward to getting to know you all. As the group is said to know each other, here is some info on her: Originally from Rashemen, Aerin worked as a mercenary until a paladin, named Mennoth, recognized the draconic heritage in her. He helped awakening her blood, starting her transformation into a half dragon. Later she joined a group of adventurers, and together they foiled the Hamayarch's plot to overthrow the young Thultyrl, who awarded them the title of 'Heroes of Procampur'. Later she had some clashes with followers of the Cult of the Dragon and a black dragon calling himself 'Velvet', before she left Raven's Bluff and moved on.

Aerin is a proud person, yet she isn't above doing menial tasks, however, anyone questioning her honor or threatening her friends will find themselves quickly at the pointy end of her greatsword...

Well.  I've probably said this before but to save you having to go through previous posts.

Welcome, Aerin.

Eriale is from Chessenta and she has the looks of most Chessentans (dark hair, olive skin, dark eyes).  They tried to train her as a mage but she wanted to know EVERYTHING, not just magic.  Then her sorcery kicked in so she left home, trained as a druid while she also learned to control her sorcery.  A chance came her way and now, while she works as druid and sorceress, it is curiosity that defines her.  She realises that EVERYTHING is much bigger than she thought and yet she STILL aches for knowledge.

Hi Folks,
Good to be able to join you when my first character wasn't selected :) I've tried to fill in gaps in the party roles, so he's a full divine caster (follower of Gwaeron Windstorm) and being able to wild shape into a variety of shapes gives some flexibility.
Artour grew up on one of the many wagon trains that are the life-blood of civilisation and so has travelled widely, but his real career began when a druid rescued them from some attacking goblins and Artour was intrigued. Alas, he wasn't cut out to be a druid, but he does worship a nature god and has discovered how to change his shape.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Glutton for punishment. Senior year, University Honors courses, an Undergraduate thesis, 5 classes... ugh...oh and applications for Master's programs this fall. Sometimes, I wonder if being in my middle years that this is too much...then I get back to reading!

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Anyways,

How long are you resting? Anything less than four hours will not be helpful at this point. Are you setting up a watch? Jerinvar is obviously going to be keeping watch during this time.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

I think since its just getting to dawn we rest for 6 hours till midday, eat and then travel for another 6 hours before finding a camp site for a good proper nights rest.

How are we approx from the village?

I see Nin Vinto hasn't logged in for a while, so I guess it's four watches with Aerin on 3rd?

The GM mentioned Aerin being the replacement for Nin, so yes, that seems to confirm your assumption.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Since it has been over a month with no updates or posts from Nin, I have removed him from the game.

I expected a little turnover after a few months, but I generally (not always) give someone a chance to reactivate their interest in games I run. It was a kindness done once for me in a game I loved, so I try to do the same.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

To answer a previous question, that is a good question. Who was doing the survival checks and either the knowledge (geography) or profession (cartographer) checks once you emerged from the moon circle? Are you sure you are even going the right way? Half a day's ride is possibly a long way away from your destination.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Artour's got a Survival modifier of +24 in natural outdoor areas, so no problem there, but no ranks in Knowledge(goegraphy) or (local), although he has a 2nd-level spell (Lore of the Gods) that will give +10 to Knowledge checks, but it only lasts for 1 minute/level if used with Knowledge skills you have no ranks in, and would give a total modifier of +15.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

We have a ranger or druid, don't we? The spell 'Lay of the Land' provides a geographic overview of the land in a 50mile radius, including settlements and so on. That should be a great basis for any decisions that need to be made.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Im a Ranger but first time I have heard of it but I have looked it up and like it. :) Will definitely add to my list to prepare at the next rest.

I do have Survival and Knowledge (Geography) enough that if I take 10 we should be ok to navigate.

Then when we rest tonight I will prepare that spell.

Sorry about that, I thought what was going on was clear.

New round, Jerinvar and Keryth should, if possible, post first, you all may post if you feel like other actions will not interfere with your own.

Sorry for lack of post.  Worked 48 hours over Wednesday and Thursday...and spent the day preparing for a hurricane (Fiona) that is to hit my province over the next 24+ hours.  Not sure when I'll get a post up...will depend on how much damage the hurricane causes to the local power grid.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Jerinvar intends to use his gaze attack on it.

Gaze (Ex): 35', 1 HD
Evil creatures of the indicated HD (1) or less must succeed on a Will save (DC 22 = 10 + 1/2 Ghaele HD + CHA mod + 4) or die instantly
Those that succeed are affected as by a fear spell for 2d10 rounds.
Nonevil creatures of the indicated HD (1) or less and evil creatures with more than the indicated HD must succeed on a Will save
or suffer the fear effect.

If it is evil and has more than 1 HD, it must make a DC 22 will save or suffer the affects of the fear spell...which would stack with its current shaken state with the extended duration of 10 minutes.

So, on failed save, panicked for 10 minutes.  On a successful save, frightened for 10 minutes.

Also save DC is 24 vs 22, given its current shaken condition.

Re: OOC: Beginning the Game

Sorry again for the lack of a post.  My intended actions are posted if you want to move the group along.

The hurricane hit my area pretty hard...mostly large trees uprooted and fallen over and the damage caused by those fallen trees.

I've spent the last few days aiding other in removing fallen trees from their property.  Am heading to work in the morning for 48 hours...so Friday will be the earliest I'll be able to post.
