The sound of the woman thanking him is soon overtaken by the sound of a roaring engine. Wherever she's going, she's in a hurry.

This high up the mountain, Blain can start hearing the sounds of combat and what sounds like a really big... wolf?

Blain and John

Blain arrives on the scene to see that the source of all the noise seems to be coming from an igloo lying in front of what looks like an abandoned shack.


Inside the igloo, John can see the heat signature of the man approaching. Even with the distraction, his attacks land true, causing the werewolf to be knocked unconscious, reverting to normal size as his canine features morph into a half-naked man in the snow. The same man John saw earlier holding the smoking gun.

The rapid fire iceballs kept shooting at the beast until it finally collapsed. John could see the heat suddenly change as it shrank down, all the extra mass convering to energy. He could not help but feel it was wasted somehow.

"Actual...werewolves?" John said out loud, mostly in shock. If he could turn into that horrible thing, why did he shoot the other man? Was it a sliver bullet? Magic? He had no idea. However, Doctor Zero had no right to say Werewolves where fake when talking snowmen where running around.

John froze the KO'd man in a block of ice. Then set up a zone of subzero temperature around the prison. As long as the block was not moved out of the area, it would maintain its frozen prison around the transformed monster.

Seeing a stranger approach, John focused his IR vision to perr through his jacket to see the gun, the wallet, the phone, and the badge. He was not sure he could trust any cop right now. However, he needed to get back to Emily. He could track her heat trail, and the trail of the car, but he needed to know if this person was a threat. He might have arrested Emily already...or worse.

The igloo then turned to mist, even as John's wound formed ice over the opening in his shoulder. The ice 'bandage' broke, and revealed an intact shoulder and clothes where s gaping energy wound had been. Now the police officer could see Doctor Zero staring at him, standing before a frozen block with the shape of a man inside it.

Ending igloo, freezing helpless target to make sure he does not wake up any time soon. He is still alive, but in stasis until moved out of cold zone or broken free of ice, or heated up.

The rushing man shape blur coalesced into Blain as he stopped sprinting about 15 yards from the now concluded icy brawl. He had no indication whos if any ones side he should be on. Clearly the iceman wasn't something normal. But as he had just sprinted up a mountain in a few minuets and wasn't even winded, maybe he didn't have a lot of ground to start complaining about normal.

" We talking or are we fight?"

 The only reason Lee had gotten the first shot off he realized is because he let him. Today was weird and he had lots of questions. He wasn't looking for violence, but sadly that wasn't always how violence worked. He stood and waited for the iceman to make a move. Ready to preempt if it came to that and he turned out to be the faster. But for the moment he stayed his hand waiting to see if John began an aggressive move.

"That's up to you...officer." John replied to Blain,  examining the badge in the man's pocket via his special vision. He could see it, but was too far away to read the name or other ID. He knew the police force was nothing more than a enforcement arm of the corrupt system that controlled what was left of humanity. He had no doubt they would be looking for Emily and him.

"I would leave that block of ice alone if I where you." He  gestured to the frozen cube behind him, holding the werewolf in its human form. "There is a nasty customer in there who wont be very friendly if he's brought out."

He started walking towards where the car had been. Sure enough, he focused and saw the heat trail leading down the moutain. Then he looked back at the cabin, making sure Emily took the now healed man with her, along with any personal belongings. As she had left in a hurry, she most likely left everything behind. If so, he would reenter the cabin and quickly pack any identifiable objects. Then get read to track Emily down.

"Slow down a moment there cowboy. If we are talking lets talk. I take it you are the man I was sent to find. Looks like I found you. What is going on up here"

 Not every one the force has sent Blain for was innocent. The breakdown of society had brought out the worst in a lot of people. So he didn't blow off orders lightly.

"For this to stay friendly, I am going to need some answers"

In reply to Blain Carter (msg # 45):

"I'm not coming with you if that's what you are asking." John said, putting all of Emily's stuff in a sling bag.  "And I doubt you where sent up here to find me."

Granted he sounded and looked almost nothing like his human self. That being said, if someone was looking for John Tashiro, and only found Doctor Zero-it would be a logical conclusion.

"As for what happened, ice cube boy over there shot somebody, and then came looking for him as 18 foot tall werewolf." He gestured to the ice cube.

"If that sounds insane...I agree. But it's also what happened. Here, see that track over there? It's a wolf paw of a humanoid nearly 20' feet tall. Another good reason to leave that guy on ice."

John finally packed everything, and then headed over to the heat trail Emily's car left behind.

In a blur Blain was once again in front of John. Standing between him and his goal.

"Reports of the abdominal snowman being sighted. That's why I am here and that sounds a lot like you. As far as coming with me. You don't need to do that. You can keep walking. I was only sent to verify if you exist or not. Looks like you do. And I imagine you appreciate how it goes down once I report you do. So talk to me, don't talk to me. But right now you aren't giving me much reason not to exactly what my job requires here"

In reply to Blain Carter (msg # 47):

John was surprised at the sudden movement. "Stay back!" He said, and the reason was clear. When Blain got in the ice man's way, he felt a deep chill. As if he had stepped into a freezer suddenly. "Don't...don't do that. My body reflexively absorbs all heat it comes in contact with."

Once he backs up, he stares at Blaine through those goggles he wears. Blaine could see John did not have eyes, only glowing orbs of blue white energy where eyes should be.

"You...moved fast. Too fast. It means you have been transformed. Something happened recently, right? Something happened and now you can move fast. That's how you got up the moutain without a car."

He exhaled, and white mist appears. "This...this complicates things. The people you work for kill people like me. Unless they already know what you can do, they will kill you as well. Along with anyone important to you. I dont know if you have heard the name Wilson Fisk, but he runs the Dustbowl along with a few others. Whoever they work for, any nonhuman who comes along ether is on the payroll..." He gestured at the ice block again.

"...or is hunted. Is there some reason I should trust that you wont try and hand me over?"

" So you do know the score then. Good. "

 The cold near John was intense, but from Blains mild reaction it seemed that perhaps the man was not as effected by extreme temperatures than a normal person.

" So you, me and wolf boy makes three. Three is a pattern. Something very strange is happening in the world. I take it you were not always a snow man?"

In reply to Blain Carter (msg # 49):

John wished he could read minds. He wanted to be able to trust someone, but the cop could be stalling for time. However, that was excessively paranoid. Why stall for time when he could have attacked at the same time as Wolf Boy? Why where they not working together if both of them where hunting John?

"No, my Mom was not Elsa and my Dad was not Mr Freeze." He smirked. "Wolf boy also has five friends roaming around the mountain. We need to get out of here. I don't know if they all can go super hairy." He tires, carefully, to get around Blaine without touching him. All so he can keep packing up the stuff and move over to where the car's heat trail is.

"Look......... I know this system is broken but its the one we have. You are not giving me a lot here. I wasn't sent to bring you in, I was sent to see if you are real.... You know what. Fine. You seem like a decent ice thing. But you have given me nothing here. So here some free advice Frosty. You find that lady and you run. You run hard and fast. Assume from here on out Fisk men are looking for you"

 And with that Blain stood aside and let John go his own way.

John was about to step past him and head after Emily, but he stopped. The cop knew about her, something he had not told John. Of course, he must have spotted her driving down the road as he moved at super speed up the mountain.

"I'm not an...'ice thing.'" He said, grimacing. "And if you tell anyone about her and me we will be running for the rest of our lives."

He turned and looked at him. "If the system is so corrupt that people like Fisk control it, it needs to be replaced. To do that, Fisk and his cronies need to be brought down. That's what the two of us where trying to do, using a method of cold fusion that would allow us to power the technology our forces could use.

I am sure you see that tech is only used by those special few nowadays. Only the most pillaged are given access to it. Yet they still use standard fuel sources. We could do much better with an energy source that has no waste product and only producible by the people who invented it. Fisk with this power would be able to defy his masters, and try to overthrow them."

He paused. "You must see the results of Fisk's rule everyday. Do you want things to change, or should I just take her and vanish into the desert? I don't want to do that, but if it will keep her alive I will."

"you were trying to do what?"

 The sudden talk of tech equality and power sources had taken Blain completely off guard. He was by no stretch of the imagination a man of science.

 "You know what, never mind. Look people are always talking about taking on the system, tearing it down. Well what is going to replace it. Who is going to hold back the monsters in mans skin roaming the waste? The world looks like shit now but it can be a lot worst. Hell how am I to know if you leave if next I am going to start finding frozen corpse through out the government."

 Blain seemed sincerely agitated and conflicted.

" Look I will cut you a deal. Something screw is going on and I don't know why, or what it means. But I am willing to listen. I need time, looks like you need time. Meet me back here in three days and I will hear you out. Maybe one of us will have a better idea what is happening. You come alone and I will come alone. I don't see you then I will assume you were blowing smoke and make my report and the chips can fall where they may. do we have an accord?"

In reply to Blain Carter (msg # 54):

"Fine. That's more than fair. However, I want you to really think how things have been for most people in dustbowl. I come from a part of the city that has a full electrical grid, clean water whenever we like, plentiful food, and even entertainment. All of that is because I grew up among Fisk's chosen few. When I went to school, and i got a first class education, history was ignored and we where told everybody got what they deserved in Dustbowl."

He shook his head "Then, after I met her, she showed me what the city is really like. Dirty water. Fire lanterns. No school. Constant illness. Kids in factories. Near ommipresent crime not by organized gang, but by the desperate looking for food.

My privilege came at the price of all those people. And it was totally unneeded. The resorces could have been shared with miminal cost. Expect for the greed and selfishness of the so-called 'favored'. It made me ashamed of where I grew up, and it made me ashamed of myself for enjoying it.

He started to head out. "Think about it. You see all the things I mentioned a lot more than I do. I am sure you asked yourself why more than once."

Slinging the bag, he gestured with one hand and a ramp of ice appeared below him. He shot down the side of the moutain, flying on his ice bridge and sliding down. All the while tracking the heat trace of Emily's car.

" I have eyes"

 Was all Blain said in response as he turned to consider the man in the Ice. He walked over and leaned down to peer in and see if he recognized the man.

Over the block of ice, Blain nodded slightly to himself as he recognized the man. More gang scum with secrets the shouldn't have. This one seemingly with powers as well. Considering a moment Blains face grew distant and hard. He gave John time to get clear before he began his grizzly work. The werewolf was never leaving this mountain. Would never be able to do what ever he had imagined he would do with his new powers. And that was because once it was just Blain and the helpless shape shifting ganger, Blain did what he felt he needed to do.

John tracked the heat trail of the car easy enough, and caught up simply. After all, he did not need to worry about roads or gravity too much.

He made sure to signal her as he raced along side the road, not getting to close. He made sure there was no one else on the road, which was not too hard. Vechiles belonged to th e wealthy and the select few.

"Are you ok?" He asked, checking her over with his thermal senses. He knew she might still be mad at him, but he also knew his abilites would be more of a focus with her genius intellect. Most likely she would be mad later, when they where safe. If that ever happend.

"How is our...guest?" He shifted his IR vision to the man he healed. He was amazed it worked, but his own knowledge seem to shape the energy core's effort inside him. Emily had theorized all the uses of Zero point energy, but he had built the machines to make that theory a fact.

Emily looked back at the unconscious man and nodded. "We may have to take him to another safehouse. I mean, we could just leave him on the side of the road, but someone may stumble across him and finish him off."

John nodded. "Good point, you go ahead. I will follow off road."

Emily seemed like she wanted to say more, but she returned John's nod. The car started up, and John went off road. Following Emily via the heat trail and seeing through solid objects, allowing him to stay hidden while he followed.

His strength made the brutal work quick. With a mighty strike he shattered both the ice and its occupant. He then turned and began to work his way down the mountain at a trot. Leaving the frozen chunks of meat that once were a man behind him.
