OOC: Technical and Stylistic Notes

TECHNICAL

1. Make sure to turn on email notifications, so that you get a message when new posts are made on RPoL ("Preferences" > "Email Notifications").

2. I'm aiming for an average posting speed of about once a day. I do understand that real life happens, and only ask to warn everyone in advance if you won't be able to post for more than three days.

3. I will be performing all dice rolls.

4. I will be updating all character sheets.

STYLISTIC

1. Third person, past tense. I will strictly enforce this for the sake of consistency. Imagine you're writing a book. Some people have trouble expressing action requests in the past tense, because they don't know the outcome. The easiest way to do this is by either writing out the character's thought process, which I will pick up on as the GM, or describing the preparation process.

2. I would prefer a uniform formatting style for all posts. My proposition would be to use quotation marks for spoken language and italics for thoughts (see example below). I know that some people like using a specific color to denote their character's speech, but since we might have different RPoL color settings, some colors may work well for you, but not for others, and vice versa.

3. Players shall strive to write posts that are stylistically uniform and grammatically correct. This includes re-reading posts before posting, spell-checking them, if necessary, and editing them if a mistake is found. I understand that typos happen, and I'm not perfect myself, thus I would be grateful to anyone pointing out my own mistakes and omissions to me.

4. This game is rated mature, as it may contain graphic violence, strong language and sexual themes. I'm not saying that it will contain all of this, but I would like to have the option to include them. I'm more inclined to run gritty and realistic scenarios as opposed to cinematographic ones.

Example:

The man sat at his computer, hammering away at the keys as if he were possessed. Silent as a shadow, a cat slipped into the room, gracefully jumped onto the table and stared at the man with luminous green eyes. "Hey, killjoy, you wanna play ball," it drawled with a barely-noticeable lisp, then proceeded to lick a black paw, waiting for an answer. The man paused for a moment, grabbed the large cup standing near the keyboard and took a swig of lukewarm tea. The cat's talking to me again, he thought, lazily looking at the sleek feline. I'd throw him a ball if I had one at hand, but they're all gathering dust under the couch. Time to do some heavy lifting.

5. I'm in favor of all players seeing all posts even if the group is split in the game, since I don't want players to miss parts of the story. However, if the player knows something, it doesn't mean the character knows it. Use discretion.

6. I may run the game in split time, if the situation warrants. E.g., characters are having a conversation at one point in time, but, to move the game along, the current action is taking place some time later. If the players want to continue the conversation from earlier on, they may do so in parallel with the current action. To denote this, I use * * * between parts of the post.
