7th of light, Deckhand, 60 CC :: Aiwaz Portal Station

"Acknowledged, Nameless Star. Have a safe jump. Aiwaz portal station out."

Sefu made sure the connection was terminated, then checked again, just to be sure. "Did you see that girl?" he finally exclaimed, swiveling in his chair to face his colleague Jwahir. "Did. You. See. That?" he repeated more forcefully, accentuating each word with an emphatic knee slap.

Jwahir shook his head with a chuckle. "Oh, I certainly did. See. That,” he mimicked Sefu's cadence. "Good job keeping your eyes in your sockets, although you still have some drool..." He trailed off, gesturing to the corner of his mouth. "Classy, as always, my friend."

Sefu ignored the good-natured jab, gazing dreamily at the monitor gone dark. "Oh, I'd be classy. I'd take that girl out. Have a nice dinner, a couple of drinks, take a walk down the boulevard, who knows where that would take us..."

"The end of the boulevard, probably," Jwahir snorted. "While we're in the realm of unbridled fantasy, why don't you throw in a host of angels on golden wings showering you two love birds with everlasting bliss?"

Sefu did not find Jwahir's portrayal of fluttering celestial beings convincing and let his opinion be known with a rude gesture. "What? You don't think me and her..."

"Let me stop you right there, my friend," Jwahir replied, making a dismissive gesture with his hand. "That girl is purebred. You could see it in her face, in her bearing, in the way she talks. You and her are worlds apart. And she's way, way above your pay grade. The chance of you two hitting it off..." Jwahir shook his head once again, letting the gesture finish the sentence.

"Stranger things have happened," Sefu parried, then punched a series of commands into the control console. "Let's see... the Nameless Star... they left Mira on the sixth of the water, Deckhand, 60 CC... that was ten days ago..." He scrolled data on the screen, looking through the cargo manifest. "Twenty two tons of ore, six and a half tons of liquid helium... three stiffs in the freezers... d'you think this is a regular run for her? Maybe next time I could..."

An incoming transmission signal interrupted his musings, a notification flashing on the screen. "By the Judge, no rest for the weary!" Sefu exclaimed and quickly scanned the lines of data running across his monitor. Clearing his throat, he flipped a switch. "Cheerful Pilgrim, this is Aiwaz portal station, over." As the monitor in front of him came back to life, the young man's voice was once again professionally neutral.
