PART FOUR: MAGIC AND MIRACLES AND DEITIES AND STUFF

MAGIC AND MIRACLES AND DEITIES AND STUFF

Okay, so you're thinking "Fine, so I use Mental and Emotional for everything... but if I'm a cleric or a mage or whatever, can't I DO things...?"

Okay, yes. Yes you can. You just have to understand-- you're still in high school, learning to do stuff. Your abilities are limited... and they have no mechanical bonus.

CLERICS IN GENERAL:

--Cure Light Wounds: You can heal people's wounds (but not illnesses) (and not their broken hearts).

--Light: You can make a light in darkness, about as bright as two candles. You can make anything small and light enough to pick up with your hands with little or no effort glow this way (so not a whole person, nor someone's eyes), or a hat, or that cute jacket you saw on sale last week.

--Turn Undead: You can make the undead back away from you.

--Bless: You can give someone (including you) +1 on their Adventure roll... but it means you take -1 on YOUR next roll.

--Curse: You can give yourself +1 to your next Sabotage roll... but it means you take -1 on your next roll after that.

--Guidance: You can ask your deity to give you a little hint where they want you to go next... their holy symbol will appear and point you in a direction. (The holy symbol just spinning around is widely known to mean "Whatever, man, just do what you freakin' want."

Paladins can also use Cure Light Wounds (theirs is called Lay On Hands), Bless, and Guidance.

Chirosa, goddess of Beauty and Wealth (CN), grants all of the above, and also grants:

--Detect Wealth: good for determining if someone is rich or not, and/or whom, between two targets, is richer.

The Holidays (The Demigods):

--Xmas: demigod of winter
, especially wintertime celebrations and peaceful kindness. He's kind of a jerk, though, until you really get to know him. CG.

----Grants: Winter Is Coming: You can make the temperature drop for as long as you concentrate. If you push it, you can even make it start snowing (even indoors (although if you get caught making it snow indoors at school, adults will yell at you)).

--Halloween: demigoddess of all things spooky and dark and gothy. She's always grumpy. CN.

----Grants: Jumpscare: Something will suddenly appear and startle the target. Not badly, though. Teachers will pick on you if you do this during class (and they have ways of catching you if you cast it on THEM.)

--Guy Fawkes Day: demigod of rebellion, disapproval, anti-authoritarianism. He's more grumpy. CN.

----Grants: Do It Anyway: Cast after someone tells you to do something, or to not do something. If you do the opposite of what they told you, you get +1 to your roll to do it or not do it. (+2 if the person was an adult.)

--St. Patrick's Day: demigod of springtime celebrations and luck. CG.

----Grants: Greater Bless: --Bless: You can give someone (including you) +2 on their Adventure roll... but it means you take -2 on YOUR next roll.

--Cupid: demigod of love and keeping things groovy. Son of Chirosa. NG.

----Grants: Here And Now: Anyone's feelings of love or crushes (no matter how secret) are enhanced for about 30 seconds. (This may lead to them acting weird. Entertaining!)

--President's Day: demigod of Leadership. Used to be a jerk but being in a band with Xmas (The Holidays) has made him seem nicer. TN.

----Grants: Advanced Guidance: Gives you +1 on your next roll after you cast Guidance, but it costs you -1 MP.

--Veterans' Day: demigod of fighters, war, fighting, combat. TN.

----Grants: Here We Go: +1 on your next Adventure roll (no downside).

--Memorial Day: demigoddess of Vacations and having free time and hanging out. CG.

----Grants: Relaxation: Praying for Relaxation before chilling and hanging out grants you double the normal MP back, and 1 EP back.

--Thanksgiving: a very dysfunctional and neurotic demigod of feeling grateful. TN.

----Grants: Guilt Trip: Target feels guilty and anxious about their Secret (even though you don't know what their secret is). Grants +1 to Persuade.

--Arbor Day: demigod of nature, honored by druids everywhere. Kind of a pushover. NG.

----Grants: Plant growth. Speeds up plant growth, can make dead wood grow two-- a pencil can sprout twigs and leaves, etc.

The Holidays: The band Xmas, Halloween, Guy Fawkes Day and President's Day are in. (Bass, Drummer, Lead Mandolin, Dulcimer, respectively.)

MAGES:

--Mages in general:
Get Light, just like above. Also:

----Magic Missile: conjures little balls of energy that attack a target. NOT allowed on school grounds nor anywhere else in Lawndale (not by students, anyway).

----Unseen Servant: you conjure an invisible creature that follows you around and holds up to three things for you, or fifty pounds, whichever comes first.

----Scry: You can see things up to 20 feet away, including through walls. Sometimes used by the immoral for cheating on schoolwork by looking at other students' papers (this will of course get you in trouble if you get caught).

----Detect Magic: Warns you when someone else is casting a spell (of any kind-- divine magic or otherwise) near you, though it doesn't tell you exactly who nor what spell... it might give you time to react, though.

----Whisper: You can whisper in someone's ear even though they're across the room.

----Mirror image: You make an illusion of yourself right next to you. No one can tell which is the real you.

Warlocks: Granted mage spells by someone else. There are a few different kinds of warlocks--
----those who get their spells from an intelligent magic item
----those who get their spells from a ghost
----those who get their spells from one or more fairies in the fey realms
----those who get their spells from a genie (a very powerful air elemental)

There are other kinds, but those are the most common.

There's not a lot of mechanical difference-- those who have a dagger that talks to them will always be pushing the character to go back to the dungeons and stab things, those who get their powers from fairies will be pushing the character to be mischievous, and so on.

Sorcerers, in case you were wondering, are just mages who just do magic stuff by force of willpower and passion instead of saying magic words they learned from books.

Bards: Get Light, just like clerics and mages. Also can do Bless and Curse, just like Clerics. The difference is that to cast any of these three, the Bard has to first sing a little song, or play a little tune on an instrument, or both.

Bless and Curse stop working if the Bard stops making music.
